This paper examines the characteristics of 23 libraries affiliated with educational institutions of the Korean miltary. Materials and data used in this analysis were obtained from a variety of statute books, Korean Library Association publications, past works in military-related research, questionnaires and interviews with library staff. For each military educational institutions, the background to its foundation and Its current operations are briefly reviewed. Library characteristics subjected to analysis pertain to the following 8 areas: location and architecture, stack arrangement, furniture and furnishings, personnel, service elements, budget, book stock, and extent of computerization. The affiliated library (consisting of reading rooms and/or stack rooms) is then classified as belonging to one of the following three levels: graduate-school level (total of 4 libraries), university level (5 libraries), and technical-school level (14 libraries). When necessary. particular libraries are examined in detail. This research reveals that while most graduate-school and university level libraries are being operated on a relatively sound basis, there are significant disparities among university level libraries. As for technical-school level libraries, the lack of professional staff and service elements for users is seriously impairing their operations. In order to address these problems and support military education and research in the age of segyehwa and information, it is suggested that the Korean military formulate comprehensive measures to modernize library facilities and improve their operations.

Korean academic libraries are facing serious space shortage problems due to an inability to accommodate for the rapidly increasing number of printed materials. Despite the current situation, Korean academic libraries have largely focused on impractical applications of the new library paradigm, using technology or management programs to improve the quality of research and learning environments of the university. However, such improvements would be fruitless without first resolving the space shortage crisis. In order to make realistic improvements to the quality of academic libraries, this study used questionnaires to employ the opinions of librarians currently practicing at such Korean libraries. Survey questionnaires about types and causes of space shortage problems, library facility expansion plans, expected effects of expansion, frequency of and reasons for furniture relocation, and tight spaces needing improvement were distributed to selected 4-year college librarians through Google Drive. Analysis of survey responses indicated that library space shortage was largely responsible for the hindrance of research and learning environments. Furthermore, it reflected the urgency to secure book storage space.

This study examines the spatial compositions of children's reading rooms, furniture characteristics, and users' satisfaction levels for the furniture in public libraries. Field measurements and surveys were performed in 5 public libraries. Results imply that the spatial compositions of reading rooms in libraries were classified into three categories according to the locations of bookshelves and reading space. Management areas should not be located at the edge of reading rooms but be located at the center of reading rooms to avoid clerks' narrow viewing angle toward young kids and to ensure security for the kids. The evaluation for bookshelves according to evaluation checklists was acceptable, but users were not always satisfied with the bookshelves due to the inappropriate positions of books in shelves. The evaluation for desks was generally acceptable according to the checklists and users were satisfied with them. In general, the desk with higher scores by the checklist provided better satisfaction to users. However, the score by checklist for chair and user satisfaction were not always similar each other. Convenience areas in reading rooms were not enough compared to bookshelf, reading and management area. Computer tables that were designed in a way that users sit down and use the computers were highly preferred.
Children stage is an important period the foundation of growth is accomplished. During the period, children are the most sensitive to environmental effects and experiences and interactions with surroundings can make lots of effects on their physical and cognitive development. Under the background of the above contents, a representative institution of the society, which is helpful to cultivate children's reading habit, will be children library. The purposes of this research are to analyze intensively reading room among the children library's spatial organization and compare/analyze cases of children library's reading room with the elements of interior environment. The methods of research are theory study and case study. Through the on-the-site visiting and shooting, interior environment design was investigated and then, it was arranged, analyzed and evaluated. Cases were analyzed by elements of interior environment design evaluation. As the result, comfort was the highest and variety was the lowest. Especially, Songpa children library showed various factors generally through the various designs. 7 evaluative elements of children library's reading room were mutually different, but there was a certain different in relation of them. Especially, variety and flexibility must be more strengthened. So, children can interests and joy in reading room various designs are requested by getting out of library's uniformed furniture and arrangement plan.

This study was to analyze physical condition on the dormitory high school in Jeonju City, and find out users' satisfaction on that. This was going to contribute to the directions of it's physical environmental improvement. This was performed by a questionnaire survey method. Data were collected from 200 students, who had been dwelling 4 high school dormitories in Jeonju City. Through analyzing those data about library, diningroom, laundry room, break room, computer room, restroom, shower room, hall lounge, and snack bar in a dormitory, the results are as follows. First, students thought some physical conditions to be inconvenient in an distracted study atmosphere and hard furniture of library, a bad location of diningroom, a short laundry machine, lack of tables in a break room, a short performance and supply computer, a small space and short toilet in restroom, and a short of hall lounge and snack bar. Second, the students' satisfaction of common public areas in dormitory was 3.39 score. Students were concerned with library and restroom shower room through analyzing satisfied and unsatisfied areas. Third, they needed to improve heating, cooling, and noise in common areas of dormitory, and needed to support a breakroom and snack bar. Conclusively, library, restroom shower room, break room, and snack bar were important common areas, and indoor environmental elements - heating, cooling and noise- were important in high school dormitory.

This study aims to examine the current status of managing elementary school libraries in Busan and suggest the ways to improve it with the viewpoint of 'the five laws of library science'. The scope of study was set as the elementary school libraries in Busan, and the operation status of 304 elementary school libraries was analyzed. And for in-depth investigation, D elementary school library was examined as a case. The operation status of elementary school libraries in Busan was analyzed with the analysis elements; existence of school library, placement of teacher librarian, library collection, annual use, budget, and library seats for 6 years from 2016 to 2021. As a result, especially the placement rate of full-time teacher librarians was only 10.5%, indicating that the problem of manpower shortage was serious. As case study, the current state of managing D elementary school library was deeply investigated with perspectives of the first law and the third law of library science among Ranganathan's five laws of library science. With the first law, the investigation was divided into the aspects of open-shelf system, library location, library hours, furniture, and staff. With the third law, the investigation was done as the aspects of shelf arrangement, catalog, extended service, book selection. Especially, books with more than 50 copies for the program of reading one book each semester accounted for 4.8% of the total collection, showing the problem of unbalanced collection. As the result of this study, 'expanding the placement of teacher librarians', 'making better reading environment through remodeling', and 'balanced collection development' were suggested as the ways of developing school libraries.
The importance of communication which is oriented to interaction, fusion and connection is more increased in the post-information society. The information environment is already realized as interface to reach immediately and freely to the databased information and knowledge. The contemporary libraries execute very important roles as an intellectual infra of modern times to deliver the great human achievement and create new culture. In the mean time, the rapid information-oriented society and the development of digital technology bring out big change in the traditional dispatch and receipt method of information. For this reason, libraries as the community space of visitors integrates physical space - electronic space and reconstructs new temporary culture and value to build the new interface that connects human to human, human to space and human to information. On the premise of these awareness, this study analysis the creative interface factor of Tama Art University New Libraries in Ito Toyo in order to research the function and the application method of modern libraries. And the results are follows. 1)We can make sure the significance of communication and the integration consciousness between digital technology and analogue sensitivity that is the characteristic of the post-information society. 2)We can classify for the creative interface factors by the character as space factor(Arcade, Gallery, Lounge, AV Booth, Cafe), facility/equipment factor(Laboratory, Media, Bar, Info Shelf, Media Seat) and furniture factor(Carrel, Desk, Mag Table, XI Shelf). 3)We can see that these interface factors change the stream of library users and that the library is constructed for library users to create and discovery something easily from books and modern technologies. And we can realize also that these factors are creative installation to lead out naturally the latent liberty sense of users.

In this study, we attempted to propose operational directions for each space in order to transform the newly built library in Yangpyeong-gun into a space for cultural enjoyment and creativity development for local residents. To this end, the purpose is to understand the space composition status of Yangpyeong-gun public libraries and establish an operation plan (draft) for the space to be constructed. To this end, we analyzed the names, operation status, and cases of similar spaces in other libraries, and analyzed the spatial characteristics of library cases to establish a space operation plan for the Yangpyeong-gun public library. As a result of the study, it is important to utilize spaces such as children's resource rooms to improve early reading habits for infants and children, contribute to development, and develop various senses, and small theaters should be planned with a focus on large-scale performances. Furniture and space for reading and relaxation should be provided next to Byeokmyeonga & Bookstair, and it should be operated as a communication space where small talk is possible within a certain limit. It is necessary to operate the multipurpose room by activating experiential creative activities and creative performances. It is necessary for the club room to establish an operation plan through regular communication and opinion sharing. The maker space space is a space that supports various creative activities, and the general data room is a place that provides materials on all topics and must be operated by regularly communicating with users and reflecting their opinions. Lastly, I would like to suggest that the family room should be used like a book cafe where children and parents can freely drink tea together in the same space.

This study examined the arrangement features in public library infant and children's reading room and provide basic material in after children's reading room space planning by studying the space features, which are valued in the environment behavioral point of view. We limited the check list to libraries built after year 2000 that are located around Seoul and from 5 libraries with children reading rooms. After analyzing items by the space features, considering children's environment behavior, pleasantness was most favorable, children scale, safety, comfortableness, flexibility followed in order. It shows the basic surroundings and the furniture that composes the children's reading room are relatively favorable, but in the other hand, it seems that reading rooms lack the ability to form an environment that can adapt to children's growth, inducting new activity areas flexibly or rearrange them. there are limitations to getting the children's needs objectively and significantly, so survey research, interview research and not only studying Korean's but comparing and analyzing with foreign country's cases will be needed.
Lately, in public libraries, there are various service programs for child user by corresponding to importance of reading based education and also a variety of changes by accommodating family based cultural life style. Therefore there is a need for space planning based study on unit-data room. This study gives guide-line of space planning through categorizing of space plot and furniture lay-out in child data room. The researcher, as a first step, searched web sites of 29 data rooms of 26 libraries and summarized space plots and features of data rooms through in-person visits. Then the author made a categorization standard and did a general analysis of featured data rooms through multiple categorization steps. There are Basic Type, General Type, Book-Shelf Centered Type, Book-shelf Scattered type and Multi-Functional Type out of this categorization steps. In sum, six categorizing bases, dividing infant room from child room, space zonning, position of entrance, compactness of reading space, position of book-shelf and orientation of book-shelf will be important design standards for child data-room of future libraries and an effective guide-lines for other unit data-rooms.
