  • The purpose of this study is to find personal characteristics that affect users' cognitive characteristics of system, and to verify correlations between this users' cognitive characteristics and selection of system usage in using end -user searching systems (EUSS), For corroborative analysis of this study, preliminary model was constructed referring to Davis' Technology Acceptance Model. The model consists of exogenous variables (personal characteristics) , parameter variables (perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use), and effect variables (selection of system usage), When exogenous variables affect parameter variables, exogenous variables are independent variables and parameter variables are dependent variables. In addition, in correlation of parameter variables, which have been affected by exogenous variables, with effect variables, parameter variables are independent variables and effect variables are dependent variables, As for the research methodology, this study regards the Academic Information System connected with the Internet as EUSS, So questionnaires have been sent to researchers in universities who were conducting direct searching for the system. 229 valid responses to questionnaires have been analyzed according to Pearson Correlation Analysis and Stepwise Selection of Multiple Regression in the statistical software packages, 'SPSS PC+'. The findings and conclusions made in this study are summarized as follows; 1. Among the personal characteristics (age, disciplinary, computer literacy level, perceived usefulness of use education and training, perceived satisfaction of end-user searching, perceived satisfaction of system characteristics), all characteristics but age affect perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use. Specifically, perceived satisfaction of end user searching and perceived satisfaction of system characteristics most affect perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use respectively. 2. Perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use have a direct effect on selection of system usage in using EUSS. 3, Perceived usefulness more affect selection of system usage than perceived ease of use in using EUSS.

  • The Purpose of this study is to point out some attributes of intrinsic and social background and status attainment process and a life-style of public library directors in KOREA. The data obtained from 188 respondents in 1999 were used for analysis. Some of the main findings are as follows: $\circled1$ The majority of the directors has a career as a teacher or local public administrators rather than a librarian. $\circled2$ The birth places of the directors are scattered all over the country. and those who were born in rural area account for about of all respondents. In rural area. it might be difficult for them to access information on newly developing profession like librarianship. $\circled3$ Although the educational level of directors themselves is higher than general public. $\circled4$ Library schools which give students high grade knowledge and training of library and information science are not so many, and hence directors are primarily local public administrators rather than qualified librarians. $\circled5$ Many directors did not aspire to become librarians. rather they got the post after they had been working as a teachers or lawyer, local public administrators. $\circled6$ If the library services of better quality are provided all over the country, urban or rural, and library schools in higher education are developed and have much more satisfactory substance, and abler library directors. And then we can expect that the qualified librarians's director system in public libraries will become an accomplished fact.

  • The purpose of this study is to revitalize library service by examining how public and medical libraries provide health and medical information services. For this purpose, we conducted a survey of the two library types, and the results are as follows. First, more than 50% of the questions public librarians were termed "immediate answer" questions, while more than 80% of the questions medical librarians receive take up to a few days' time to answer. Public librarians were more likely to comment on the limitations of their expertise and information resources as compared to the medical librarians. Second, public librarians use mainly medical journals and websites for answering users' requests. However, medical librarians used, in almost the same ratio, all types of information resources represented in the survey questions. Third, when asking about health/medical-related training contents for performing their tasks, public and medical librarians are highly interested in all information about all health-related issues. However, while medical librarians showed high interest in all subject areas, public librarians most preferred well-being related education topics such as Information on diet and nutrition, Information about exercise and fitness, and information on quitting smoking.

  • This study reviewed the current status of low-experienced teacher librarians with less than 5 years and attempted to identify their educational needs through IPA analysis, Borich Priority Formula, and The Locus for Focus Model. A survey was conducted on low-experienced teacher librarians with less than 5 years of experience to analyze their process in the pre-service teacher training and experiences before an appointment and to identify teacher librarians instructional expertise. The results of the analysis of the study are as follows. First, there was a statistically significant difference between the importance and performance in all areas of instructional expertise of low-experienced teacher librarians. Second, 'reading education-practice progress' was recognized as a 'Keep up good work' with high importance and satisfaction, and 'library-based instruction planning, progress evaluation', 'information literacy-curriculum design', and 'digital and media literacy education-progress and evaluation' were recognized as areas of 'Concentrate here' through IPA analysis. Third, In the Borich Priority Formula, 'teaching-learning evaluation', 'teaching-learning progress', and 'teaching-learning plan' in the Library based instruction area showed the highest educational needs. Fourth, the library-based instruction was shown to the high discrepancy/high importancy area as same as the Borich Proity Formula. The results of this study can provide implications for improving the instructional expertise of teacher librarians.
