Information science is the study how in formation is transferred and all the intermediate steps of collecting, organizing, interpreting, storing, retrieving, disseminating and trans foming information. Professional education means the transfer of knowledge, the development of cognitive abilities and the infusion of professional attitudes. Training may be defined as practice-based instruction in the development and use of professional skills. Each is affected by the confluence of social, economic and technological realities of the environment where the learning takes place. We have witnessed controversy about methods of curriculum revision and change. Should information science courses be added to the traditional library science curriculum or should the new approaches be integrated within the subject matter of each individual course? The article is based upon the assumption that education for librarianship is at a turning point. To provide this information, 25 curricula of colleges and universities were analysed to assist in the study. Also 32 information professionals were asked to assist in the study. In the experimental part of this study, curricula based on the education and training of library and information profession als were examined. The most frequently offered compulsory course 'Introduction to Information Science' exposes students to a new way of looking at library and information problems. Information retrieval, library automation, computer programming, data processing, indexing and abstraction, communication, system analysis has offered. These indicate a curriculum slowly shift from traditional librarianship to an emphasis on computerization and automation. Also from a questionnaire listing 58 events might influence library and information science education.

This short survey article examines the current curricula for library and information science education in the U. S. in order to implement them for our professional education in the field in Korea so as to produce qualified and competent graduates. Some of the prevailing trends in education and training for information professionals in the U. S. are as follows: 1. Library schools tend to incorporate information science into library school curricula to reflect their emphasis on this area, and attempt to develop close ties with all segments of the information industry; 2. Library schools actively participate in cooperative research with other agencies to explore ways of solving problems; 3. There is a diversity of education and training programs to meet the needs of a wide variety of information professionals, with library school faculty members being drawn from a wide range of scholarly disciplines; 4. New methods of teaching are being developed to support research and instructional activities; 5. There has been a significant change in the composition of the student body, now given a strong voice in the administration of the library school.

In this paper we discuss what Competitive Intelligence means, why it is growing in importance in the business world and how Library and Information Science Schools in the United States are responding to the opportunities presented by Competitive Intelligence. As a conclusion, we discuss some of the implications of our findings for Library and Information Science education in Korea.

본 연구는 장애인서비스 전문사서 양성과 전문성 강화를 위한 장애인서비스 전문사서를 위한 계속교육 프로그램 모형을 개발하고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 문헌연구, 담당자와의 인터뷰를 통하여 국립중앙도서관 사서교육문화과에서 수행한 장애인서비스 전문사서 계속교육 강좌를 조사 분석하였다. 이상의 연구 결과를 종합하여 얻은 연구결과를 바탕으로 하여 장애인서비스 전문사서 역량강화를 위한 계속교육 프로그램 모형을 개발하였다. 제안되는 프로그램 모형은 Track 1, 2로 나누었으며, 교육 형태는 사이버형 교육, 집합형 교육, 그리고 혼합형 교육으로 편성하였다.

In this study it is surveyed how the educational objectives of orientation in Library & Information Science under current school system should be formed and presented as follows; First, there are many obstacles in overcoming problems and setting successfully education of Library & Information Science under the school system by Ministry of Education. To get over this clear objectives and goals of education must be presented. According to clarified goal of education curriculums must be formed systematically. As a result it is suggested that setting goal of education emphasizing on paralleling of fortifying of theory and conducting practical business rather than training of Information specialist. Second, in analysis of curriculum of library & Information Science it is divided into five categories; (1) 'information organization', (2) 'reference/bibliographical information', (3) 'management of library/ information center', (4) 'informatics' (5) 'library & Information science in general', then courses of each category are arranged and analyzed. As a result balanced development among categories and education is required. In short educational goal of library & Information Science must show basic philosophy, ideal, and direction of education. In addition it is ideal that educational goal of Library & Information Science be presented concretely and in feasible way. Thus in this context the goal and objectives of library & Information Science must be devised and amended, su n.0, pplement as circumstances change.

The paper is aimed as 'food for thought' concerning the infortance and training of the subject specialist librarians(=SSL) in Korea. Definetions and qualifications as well as the responsibilities and activities of SSL were examined. Opportunities and means for the training of SSL were sought within the framework of the present curriculum of the library science departments and the present system of higher education in korea, and through the efforts of continuing education.

Half a century has passed since the academic field of library and information science, which was born at the end of the 19th Century in the Western world, was introduced to Korea. Despite years of quantitative growth and qualitative maturation, the field has been facing the inconvenient truths of discrepancies in education levels arising from varying education providers, and weakened public confidence in librarian certification. Based on analysis of librarian training and education programs and the certification system, this research seeks to point out the limitations of the national librarian certification system, which is losing public confidence, and present a model for improvement. Library and information science education has expanded from universities to the academy of librarian education and lifelong education centers, and the librarian certification system has emerged as a target of reform. This research presents measures to improve the librarian certification system to government bodies and the Committee on Library and Information Policy with the purpose of providing grounds for policy enforcement.

본 연구는 문헌정보학 전공 현장실습의 만족도 영향요인을 파악하고 현장실습교육 구성요인으로서 적합한 NCS 능력단위를 도출하여, 국가직무능력표준(NCS)과 연계된 문헌정보학 현장실습 교육과정 모델을 설계하고 NCS 기반의 문헌정보학 실습교육 내용의 기준 및 지침을 구체화하는 목적을 갖고 있다. 이를 위해 첫째, 국가직무능력표준(NCS)의 추진 현황 특히 문헌정보학 전공분야 NCS 현황을 분석하였고, 둘째, 문헌정보학 전공학생의 현장실습 만족도 조사를 통해 현장실습의 영향요인을 도출하였고, 실습기관인 도서관 현장에서의 NCS와 연계된 현장실습 구성요인의 중요도 및 활용도 평가를 진행하였으며, 셋째, 포커스 그룹 인터뷰 조사결과 등을 통해 국가직무능력표준(NCS)이 실제 도서관 현장의 업무와 적절하게 부합되는 방향으로 NCS와 연계된 문헌정보학 실습교육과정 모델을 설계하였고, 넷째, NCS를 기반으로 문헌정보학 실습교육 내용의 기준 및 지침을 구체화하여 현장실습 실습생에게 요구되는 현장실습 교육지침서를 제안하였다.

본 연구는 정보소외계층에 대한 사회의 관심도 증가에 따라 도서관서비스 대상에서 소외되었던 장애인 이용자가 처한 특수상황에 맞는 맞춤형 도서관서비스를 제공하기 위한 방안으로 도서관장애인서비스 전문사서 교과 과정 모형을 개발하였다. 이를 위하여 도서관장애인서비스 전문사서 교과과정에 반드시 포함되어야 하는 요인을 선별하기 위하여 국내외 도서관에서 이루어지고 있는 기존의 도서관장애인서비스와 장애인서비스 전문사서 교과과정을 조사 분석하였다. 이상의 연구결과를 종합하여 도서관장애인서비스를 위한 전문사서 양성 과정에 반드시 포함되어야 할 교과 내용과 교과 과정을 기초 과정과 심화 과정으로 나누어 제시하였다.

본 연구에서는 국내 주제전문사서 양성을 위한 개선된 문헌정보학교육 및 교과과정 개선방안을 제안하였다. 이를 위해 국내 4개 대학교와 미국의 3개 대학교의 교과과정 및 미국도서관헙회(ALA: American Library Association), 도서관교육협회(ALISE : Association for Library and Information Science Education)와 기타 기관에서 정보전문가(information specialist)의 양성 과정을 비교$\cdot$분석하였다. 그 결과를 국내 대학의 문헌정보학과교육과정에 개설된 교과목과 수와 학점 수를 고려하여 미래지향적인 주제전문사서 양성프로그램 개발을 위한 자료로 활용하였다. 본 연구 결과는 대학교 교육과정에서 '주제전문사서' 양성을 위한 기초 자료로 활용될 수 있을 것이다.
