  • This study examined librarians' perceptions of Information Commons(I.C.), user's information seeking behaviors, and new role of library in the digital ages. Interviews with 28 librarians found that the perceptions of the librarians were widely differed depending on their understandings of the nature of the space. The interview results were divided into three different categories of librarians: the librarians; 1) understanding library as a place only with academic functions, 2) library as academic place along with multi-cultural functions, and 3) library as open learning space with focus on creativity and discovery of users. The findings also indicated that all these perceptions are closely related to understanding of the role of library and its future development.

As for the time which users retrieve for a week, under two hours was $75\%$, between 3 and 8 hours $18.3\%$, and eve. 9 hours $6.7\%$. 2) The increasing factors of the search result are (1) an enough discussion and interview between librarians and users, and (2) the use of the correct indexing terms, Thesaurus, and Keyword. In principle users must search directly. However, the librarians searched instead in case that the retrieval result was under two hours a week$(75\%)$. 3) As for the search fee, $91\%$ was free and $9\%$ was charged. As a result of analysis, the whole ego state type of public librarians is founded to be N-type(Nightingale type) like NP-AC-A-CP-FC. The characteristics of this type can be interpreted as 'to show the tendency of self-denial in spite of their dedication.' So, the public librarians have to do their best to develop A(Adult), CP(Critical Parent) and FC(Free Child) ego state to take the requirements and behaviors of children and young adults in nurturing attitudes and enhance their autonomy and creativity through active mutual interaction. • This study aimed to analyze the impact of public library librarians' innovative work behavior on service quality, which is an indicator of organizational performance. To achieve this goal, the study surveyed both librarians and users of seven public libraries in the Seoul metropolitan area and assessed 77 cases of librarian data and 309 cases of user data. The innovative work behaviors of librarians and the quality of service provided to users were examined. The analysis showed that idea realization, the final stage of innovative work behavior, was beneficial for information control. However, idea generation, the initial stage of innovative behavior, adversely affected the affect of service and information control dimensions. The situation where the process stalled at the idea generation stage without progressing to the next stage (idea promotion or realization), was interpreted as leading to decreased service quality. The significance of this study is that it applied the concept of innovative work behavior to public libraries and suggested the impact of public librarians' innovative work behavior on service quality using an empirical method.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the effects of school library personnel on students' reading behaviors and to identify differences between schools on it. For this purpose, this study surveyed 5,349 elementary, middle and high school students from 154 schools across Korea, and conducted a survey on reading environment, school library, and DLS. The results of the analysis showed that the students at the school where teacher librarians works are more likely to read books, participate in various reading programs, receive more help from teacher librarians in selecting books to read, lending more books, have more experience with DLS and satisfaction with it. The differences between the schools were in the order of 'classes which school library personnel took part in,' 'number of borrowed books,' 'help in selecting books,' 'average reading time per day,' 'number of home books,' 'reading in school library.' Therefore, it is necessary to expand the placement of school library personnel and develop their professionalism in order to prevent inequality in the educational environment between schools.

  • This study investigated the perceptions of librarians about Podcast and YouTube services in libraries. The study was designed by applying the Extended Technology Acceptance Model. Librarian's personal, organizational, and social awareness of library Podcast or YouTube services and the degree of understanding of users and their needs on services were mediated by perceived usefulness or ease of services= and influenced to having intentions and providing the services. First, we investigated the types of Podcast and YouTueb services provided by 39 libraries in Korea. Also, we collected data using an online survey method from 181 librarians and conducted hierarchical multiple regression analysis. Findings showed that libraries are using Podcast and YouTube appropriately considering features and functions of media, mainly for library event information/promotion, library programs, book recommendations, and author (librarian) lectures or interviews. Organizational or social awareness of librarians, i.e., library educational support, human resource supports, librarian recognition, job-related features, and understanding of user perceptions and needs, influenced the intention to provide library services. Also, there was a difference in perceived usefulness and ease of services between librarians who provided Podcast and YouTube services and those who did not. We expect that findings could be used as references to understand and support various aspects of librarians in charge of developing and providing Podcast or YouTube services in libraries.
