  • In order to demonstrate the potential therapeutic effect of two flavonoids, Baicalein and Wogonin, on suppression of pathological myocardial fibrosis in hypertension, we investigated their in vitro effects on collagen expression in primary cultured cardiac fibroblasts isolated from neonatal normotensive (WKY) and hypertensive (SHR) rats. Our results showed that over-expression of collagen mRNA and protein induced in cardiac fibroblasts by angiotensin (AngII) could be attenuated significantly by both flavonoids at an optimal dosage ($30\;{\mu}M$; P < 0.01). Results of immunoblots showed that expression of 12-LO level, p-ERK/ ERK ratio and MMP-9 in AngII-stimulated SHR cardiac fibroblasts were significantly down-regulated by both flavonoids. Our results show that both Baicalein and Wogonin can suppress collagen deposition in AngII-stimulated SHR and WKY cardiac fibroblasts.

  • Planar optical waveguides which have a higher refractive index than that of substrate were fabricated by proton exchange between $Li^+$ and $H^+$. Benzoic acid was used as proton source and process was carried out under the various reaction time and temperature. The depth of waveguide layer and the generated mode number were investigated by standard prism coupler. The cut-off depth for the fabrication of single mode optical waveguides was obtained by the function which was expressed on refractive index profile. Finally the experimental conditions for cut-of depth of single mode could be confirmed. Channel waveguides were manufactured from these confirmed conditions and the effective confinement of the induced light into waveguides was observed.

  • Floating LiDAR systems provide significant savings in cost and time compared to the fixed meteorological mast measurement type, and have the advantage of being able to be deployed in various locations due to less restriction on the depth of the installation site. However, to use the wind data collected by a floating LiDAR system commercially, verification procedure is required to ensure that the collected data have sufficient availability. The Carbon Trust OWA roadmap presents guidelines in three stages for the reliability of the wind data collected using a floating LiDAR system. Companies developing wind farms are requesting at least Stage 2 (pre-commercial stage) presented by OWA, and many overseas companies are leading the domestic and overseas markets. In this paper, we introduce the case of OWA Stage 2 certification for the commercial operation of floating LiDAR systems.

  • Synthetic carbon-coated olivine-like structured lithium iron phosphate ($Li^+Fe^{2+}(PO_4)^{3-}/C$) powder composites were compressed up to 35.0 GPa in the symmetrical diamond anvil cell at room temperature. Bulk modulus of $LiFePO_4/C$ was determined to be $130.1{\pm}10.3$ GPa. New peak appears at the d-spacing of 3.386 ${\AA}$ above 18 GPa, and another new one at 2.854 ${\AA}$ around 35 GPa. The crystallographic symmetry of the sample (i.e. orthorhombic) is apparently retained up to 35 GPa as no clear evidence for the phase transition into spinel structure has been observed. The pressure-induced volume change in the M1 site ($Li^+O_6$) is more significant than those in M2($Fe^{2+}O_6$) and $PO_4$ tetrahedral sites.

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to elucidate the prognosis, and other clinical features, such as time to surgery and the amount of transfusion, of small bowel injury (SBI) accompanied by liver injury (LI). Methods: We investigated 221 patients with SBI who visited an emergency center from October 2000 to March 2019. We excluded patients with injuries that directly led to mortality, and the remaining 149 patients were divided into the SBI alone (SBI-A) group and the SBI accompanied by LI (SBI-LI) group. Data were collected for preoperative and surgical outcome variables, and the treatment results were compared between groups. Results: The SBI-LI group had a higher mortality rate than the SBI-A group (22.4% vs. 14.3%), but this difference was not statistically significant (p=0.061). There were no significant differences between the SBI-A and SBI-LI groups, except for the amount of red blood cell (RBC) transfusion (SBI-A: 3.53±0.1 vs. SBI-LI: 8.38±0.7 packs, p=0.035) and the length of intensive care unit (ICU) stay (SBI-A: 6.7±0.2 vs. SBI-LI: 11.1±0.5 days, p=0.047). Conclusions: The SBI-LI group required more RBC transfusions and longer ICU stays than the SBI-A group. SBI accompanied by LI may show higher mortality than SBI alone; however, since the difference was not statistically significant in the present study, larger-scale follow-up research is needed.

  • One of the controversial issues in English locative inversion (LI) construction( e. g. Under the tree sat a woman) has been the functional status of preverbal PP and postverbal NP, i.e. whether they are a subject, a complement, or filer (topic) Based on the distributional parallelisms between the PP and NP on the one hand and an ordinary subject and filler on the other this paper proposes that the PP has a dual function as a subject and filler, while the NP also has some subject properties that the PP does not have These mixed functional properties are analyzed in the theory of HPSG expecially with the versions recently developed by Sag(1997) Manning and Sag(1999) and Ginzburg and Sag(to appear). This analysis claims that the LI construction needs to satisfy two general, independent constraints head-subject- phrase and head-filler-phrase. This position suggests that the English LI construction is an instance of the peripheral phenomena whose construction specific constraint is inherited from more general core constraints. • We design Ge-Al multilayer assemblies as anode materials for Li-ion batteries, in which Ge and Al thin films are alternately deposited by a radio sputtering method. By sandwiching Ge layers between Al layer, the cyclability, rate capability, and capacity of Ge are improved significantly. The success of the Ge-Al multilayer is attributed to the Al films. To maintain the integrity of electrical contact, Al acts as an elastic layer, which can expand or shrink with the Ge film upon lithiation or delithiation. In addition, the presence of the Al film on the surface can prevent direct contact of Ge and electrolyte, thereby reducing the growth of a SEI layer. Importantly, with high electrical and ionic conductivities, the Al film provides efficient electrical and ionic routes for electrons and Li-ions to access the Ge film, promoting a high specific capacity and high rate capability for Ge.

  • The optimal shipping location is determined by measuring the volume and weights of cargo shipped to non-standard cargo carriers. Currently, workers manually measure cargo volume, but automate it to improve work inefficiency. In this paper, we proposed the method of a real-time volume calculation using LiDar sensor for automating cargo measurement of non-standard cargo. For this purpose, we utilized the statistical techniques for data preprocessing and volume calculation, also used Voxel Grid filter to light weighted of data which are appropriate in real-time calculation. We implemented the function of Normal vectors and Triangle Mesh to generate surfaces and Alpha Shapes algorithms to process 3D modeling.
