This paper presents an experimental study on the behavior of composite floor slab comprised by a new steel sheet and concrete slab. The strength of composite slabs depends mainly on the strength of the connection between the steel sheet and concrete, which is denoted by longitudinal shear strength. The composite slabs have three main failures modes, failure by bending, vertical shear failure and longitudinal shear failure. These modes are based on the load versus deflection curves that are obtained in bending tests. The longitudinal shear failure is brittle due to the mechanical connection was not capable of transferring the shear force until the failure by bending occurs. The vertical shear failure is observed in slabs with short span, large heights and high concentrated loads subjected near the supports. In order to analyze the behavior of the composite slab with a new steel sheet, six bending tests were undertaken aiming to provide information on their longitudinal shear strength, and to assess the failure mechanisms of the proposed connections. Two groups of slabs were tested, one with 3000 mm in length and other with 1500 mm in length. The tested composite slabs showed satisfactory composite behavior and longitudinal shear resistance, as good as well, the analysis confirmed that the developed sheet is suitable for use in composite structures without damage to the global behavior.

In the present study, an Element-Based Lagrangian Formulation for the nonlinear analysis of shell structures is presented. The strains, stresses and constitutive equations based on the natural co-ordinate have been used throughout the Element-Based Lagrangian Formulation of the present shell element which offers an advantage of easy implementation compared with the traditional Lagrangian Formulation. The Element-Based Lagrangian Formulation of a 9-node resultant-stress shell element is presented for the anisotropic composite material. The element is free of both membrane and shear locking behavior by using the assumed natural strain method such that the element performs very well in thin shell problems. The arc-length control method is used to trace complex equilibrium paths in thin shell applications. Numerical examples for laminated composite curved shells presented herein clearly show the validity of the present approach and the accuracy of the developed shell element.

This study analyzes the four composition elements : profile, anchorage and connection, material and member rigidity, stability, as the main composition design elements of flexure structure systems, in order to explore possibilities for more various structure designs in architectures with flexure structure system. It also examines typical design methods that use the mentioned four composition elements. At the results, this research presents an understanding of the differences between funicular shape and non-funicular shape and mechanical features of the shapes in the profile element, regarding to the ratio of rise height to span length(f/l). Also, the typical design methods are presented for the designable usages of the hinge joints and the fix joints, and for the applications of member rigidity expressed by the index of the ratio of member depth to span length(d/l). And it was presented that connection styles, addition of brace members, placement of shear walls are the main design methods in the stability element. This data would be useful to architectural designs concerning integrated design with structures.

In this study using the finite different programs, FLAC2D to define affection of the soil-structure interface in evaluating the behavior of adjacent structures according to excavation, and tried to compare each the results of different 46 cases which were various condition of stories, length and locations from the excavation site. In the result of the numerical analysis, the affection of the interface was affected by the building stories, locations from the excavation site and shape ratio(length/height). Therefore, in the considering soil-structure interaction in the damage assessment and the behavior of the adjacent structures when excavation, is important in more accurate evaluation of the movement of structure. Also, the interface modification factor were proposed which can consider the interface.
The analysis and design of skeletal structures is greatly influenced by the behaviour of beam-to-column connections, where patented designs have led to a wide range of types with differing structural quantities. The behaviour of beam-to-column connections plays an important role in the analysis and design of framed structures. This paper presents an overview of the influence of connection behaviour on structural stability, in the in-plane (bending) mode of sway. A computer-based method is presented for geometrically nonlinear plane frames with semi-rigid connections accounting for shear deformations. The analytical procedure employs transcendental modified stability functions to model the effect of axial force on the stiffness of members. The member stiffness matrix were found. The critical load has been searched as a suitable load parameter for the loss of stability of the system. Several examples are presented to demonstrate the validity of the analysis procedure. The method is readily implemented on a computer using matrix structural analysis techniques and is applicable for the efficient nonlinear analysis of frameworks. Combined with a parametric column effective length study, connection and frame stiffness are used to propose a method for the analysis of semi-rigid frames where column effective lengths are greatly reduced and second order (deflection induced) bending moments in the column may be distributed via the connectors to the beams, leading to significant economies.
There are normally two types of the energy absorbers used in the crashworthiness of trains. The first is a structure type, which mainly used in not only the primary structures of the train but also the crash energy absorbers at the accident. The second is a module type, which just absorbs the crash energy independent of the primary structures and attached to the structures of the train. The expansion and inversion tube are widely used as the module type crash energy absorbers, especially in the train. The tubes should not be buckled under the load acting on the end of the tube in longitudinal direction during absorbing the crash energy. The buckling stability of the tubes is affected by the boundary conditions, thickness and length of tube. In this study, the effects of the length and thickness of the tubes on the buckling load are studied by using the ABAQUS, a commercial finite element analysis program, and then presents the guideline to design the tube. The analysis processes to compute the buckling load consist of a linear buckling analysis and a nonlinear post-buckling analysis. The buckling modes are evaluated by the linear buckling analysis, as using these modes, the buckling loads are computed by the nonlinear post-buckling analysis.

A new CMOS analog design methodology using an independently optimized self-cascode (SC) is proposed. This idea is based on the concept of the dual-workfunction-gate MOSFETs, which are equivalent to SC structures. The channel length of the source-side MOSFET is optimized, to give higher transconductance ($g_m$) and output resistance ($r_{out}$). The highest $g_m$ and $r_{out}$ of the SC structures are obtained by independently optimizing the channel length ratio of the SC MOSFETs, which is a critical design parameter. An operational amplifier (OPAMP) with the proposed design methodology using a standard digital $0.18-{\mu}m$ CMOS technology was designed and fabricated, to provide better performance. Independently $g_m$ and $r_{out}$ optimized SC MOSFETs were used in the differential input and output stages, respectively. The measured DC gain of the fabricated OPAMP with the proposed design methodology was approximately 18 dB higher, than that of the conventional OPAMP.
Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) is one of the materials used to strengthen steel structures. Most studies on strengthening steel structures have been done on steel beams and steel columns. No independent study, to the researcher's knowledge, has studied the effect of CFRP strengthening on steel beam-columns, and it seems that there is a lack of understanding on behavior of CFRP strengthening on steel beam-columns. However, this study explored the use of adhesively bonded CFRP flexible sheets on retrofitting square hollow section (SHS) steel beam-columns, using numerical investigations. Finite Element Method (FEM) was employed for modeling. To determine the ultimate load of SHS steel beam-columns, ten specimens, eight of which were strengthened with the different coverage length and with one and two CFRP layers, with two types of section (Type A and B) were analyzed. ANSYS was used to analyze the SHS steel beam-columns. The results showed that the CFRP composite had no similar effect on the slender and stocky SHS steel beam-columns. The results also showed that the coverage length, the number of layers, and the location of CFRP composites were effective in increasing the ultimate load of the SHS steel beam-columns.
Crack is the most common typical feature of concrete deterioration, so routine monitoring and health assessment become essential for identifying failures and to set up an appropriate rehabilitation strategy in order to extend the service life of concrete structures. At present, image segmentation algorithms have been applied to crack analysis based on inspection images of concrete structures. The results of crack segmentation offering crack information, including length, width, and area is helpful to assist inspectors in surface inspection of concrete structures. This study proposed an algorithm of image segmentation enhancement, named morphological segmentation based on edge detection-II (MSED-II), to concrete crack segmentation. Several concrete pavement and building surfaces were imaged as the study materials. In addition, morphological operations followed by cross-curvature evaluation (CCE), an image segmentation technique of linear patterns, were also tested to evaluate their performance in concrete crack segmentation. The result indicates that MSED-II compared to CCE can lead to better quality of concrete crack segmentation. The least area, length, and width measurement errors of the concrete cracks are 5.68%, 0.23%, and 0.00%, respectively, that proves MSED-II effective for automatic measurement of concrete cracks.

The overall seismic performance of existing pre 1960-70s reinforced concrete (RC) structures is significantly affected by the inadequate length of columns' lap-spliced reinforcement. Due to this crucial structural deficiency, the cyclic response is dominated by premature bond - slip failure, strength and stiffness degradation, poor energy dissipation capacity and low ductility. Recent earthquakes worldwide highlighted the importance of improving the load transfer mechanism between lap-spliced bars, while it was clearly demonstrated that the failure of lap splices may result in a devastating effect on structural integrity. Extensive experimental and analytical research was carried out herein, to evaluate the effectiveness and reliability of strengthening techniques applied to RC columns with lap-spliced reinforcement and also accurately predict the columns' response during an earthquake. Ten large scale cantilever column subassemblages, representative of columns found in existing pre 1970s RC structures, were constructed and strengthened by steel or RC jacketing. The enhanced specimens were imposed to earthquake-type loading and their lateral response was evaluated with respect to the hysteresis of two original and two control subassemblages. The main variables examined were the lap splice length, the steel jacket width and the amount of additional confinement offered by the jackets. Moreover, an analytical formulation proposed by Tsonos (2007a, 2019) was modified appropriately and applied to the lap splice region, to calculate shear stress developed in the concrete and predict if yielding of reinforcement is achieved. The accuracy of the analytical method was checked against experimental results from both the literature and the experimental work included herein.
