  • A new efficient analytical eye-diagram determination technique for coupled interconnect lines is presented. Two coupled lines are decoupled into isolated eigen modes; bit blocks for coupled lines, which are defined as a block of consecutive bits, are then represented with decoupled modes. The crosstalk effects within the bit blocks are taken into account. Thereby, the crucial input bit patterns for the worst case eye-diagram determination are modeled mathematically, including inter-symbol interference (ISI). The proposed technique shows excellent agreement with the SPICE-based simulation. Furthermore, it is very computation-time-efficient in the order of magnitude, compared with the SPICE simulation, which requires numerous pseudo-random bit sequence (PRBS) input signals.

  • This article introduces how to use potential-pH diagram for the formation of metallic nanoparticles, based upon the data obtained from the experiments. It is important to measure the values of equilibrium potentials of the reactions for the use of potential-pH diagram in aqueous and non-aqueous solutions. This article includes how to obtain the potential-pH diagrams in solutions containing particles and in non-aqueous solutions.

  • Persistence homology (a type of methodology in computational algebraic topology) can be used to capture the topological characteristics of functional data. To visualize the characteristics, a persistence diagram is adopted by plotting baseline and the pairs that consist of local minimum and local maximum. We use the bottleneck distance to measure the topological distance between two different functions; in addition, this distance can be applied to multidimensional scaling(MDS) that visualizes the imaginary position based on the distance between functions. In this study, we use handwriting data (which has functional forms) to get persistence diagram and check differences between the observations by using bottleneck distance and the MDS.

  • Company A should maintain myriad conversion tools for the purpose of making a geometric compilation of navigation maps. Company A is already using complex compilation tools, which are tailored to geographical areas and various GPS models. However, due to frequent requirement and personnel changes, there is an endless challenge for perfect tool configuration and multiple map consolidation. To solve this problem, Company A launched a process automation project using Graphviz, which is an open source workflow graph visualization software. Before implementation, they had to document their current map compilation processes and then match it with the applicable conversion tool. For effective representation of process controls, a new graphical process notation is designed, i.e. Y Block diagram. The authors will compare Y Block diagram with other process notations and explain why Y Block diagram is more useful for tool based business processes such as digital map generation processes.

  • Objectives : To overcome limitations of previous diagnostic systems and constitutional medicine by suggesting a new perspective of constitutional medicine and a system of Yin Yang and Five Phases that is applicable to many diseases untreatable by biomedicine. Methods : The Life Structure Diagram which shows the different distribution of Yin Yang and Five Phases according to constitution, reflects the non-local and simultaneous characteristics of Yin Yang and Five Phases. It overcomes previous diagnostic systems and constitutional medicine which were local and segmented. Each constitutional types were determined through their defining deep fractal pulse patterns, for which appropriate acupuncture methods and formulas were suggested. Results & Conclusions : A more effective differentiation of constitution and treatment could be achieved through the Life Structure Diagram, which could overcome limitations of pre-existing diagnosis and treatments of Korean Medicine.

  • The train operation institution establishes a transportation plan based on the forecast of transport demand and the ability of train vehicles to transport, and establishes a train operation plan accordingly. The train operation plan adjusts the intervals between trains, creates a timetable (train diagram) for trains, and establishes a plan for the operation of train vehicles used for train operation. The train operation institution shall establish a crew schedule to determine and place the crew members of the trains arranged in the diagram in order to enhance the efficiency of the operation management of the trains. In this study, the authors apply the neighborhood search method that satisfies the constraints at the phase of generating the crew diagram. This suggests a methodology for efficient management of crew schedule plan. The crew diagram generated in this study compared with the existing crew diagram in accordance with the actual operating train timetable, and verified the effectiveness of the suggested method.

  • Studies of fault-injection into state machine diagram have been studied for generating robustness test cases. Conventional studies have, however, tended to inject too many faults into diagrams because they only have considered structural aspects of diagrams. In this paper, we propose a method that aims to reduce the number of injected fault without a decrease in effectivenss of robustness test. A proposed method is demonstrated using a microwave oven sate machine diagram and evaluated using a hash table state machine diagram. The result of the evaluation shows that the number of injected faults is decreased by 43% and the number of test cases is decreased by 63% without a decrease in effectiveness of hash table robustness test.

  • Company A, an embedded system manufacturer, provides its products to Company P which is the parent company of Company A. Both companies learned that they needed to find over 4,000 bugs before market release in order to meet the acceptable quality level. Traditionally, they had utilized time-series line graphs as their common performance measurement tool. These graphs compared accumulated numbers of bugs fixed with accumulated numbers of bugs found. Engineers in Company A had been under pressure to improve the process capacity because the line for bugs fixed was always below than the line for bugs found. By using a newly designed Bipolar diagram, engineers in Company A analyzed the process performance. And they were in a position to be more flexible for internal or inter-companies meeting. Authors explain an empirical study of a graphical and practical performance measurement tools relating to mainly the Bipolar diagram. As a result, the Bipolar diagram provides workload monitoring and performance measurement functions in a given timeframe by using the concepts of Optimum Process Line (or band) and Fair Process Capacity Zone.
