The frequency of primary lung cancer is increasing compared to other cancer. Complete surgical resection is the most effective method of treatment, but it is limited to only 25 to 30 percent of patients after initial clinical presentation. The survival rate is different by the subtypes of carcinoma, stages, and general condition of patients. The author investigated the survival rate of 87 patients with squamous cell carcinoma of the lung after surgery. Age ranged from 31 to 73 years, with Lean 57.1) $\pm$ 7.15 and 80.5% (70 cases) was initially diagnosed at sixth and seventh decades. Male to female ratio was 8.9'1. Initial complaints were cough with sputum in 78.1%, weight loss in 31.0%, chest pain and discomfort in 29.9%, and hemoptysis in 24.1%. The location of the tumor was right side in 44.8% and left slde in 55.2% ; LUL in 39.1%, RLL in 20.7%, LLL in'16. 1%, RUL in 14.9% and RML in 9.2%. Stage I was 19.5%, stage II 25.3%, stage olla 54.1% and stage lIIb 1.1%. Operative procedures were as follow : pneumonectomy in 52.9%, lobectomy in 47.1%, sleeve upper lobectomy in 4 cases. Single mediastinal Iymph node involvement was observed in 17 cases, and multi-level mediastinal Iymph node involvement in 23 cases. Lower paratracheal Iymph node and subcarinal Lymph node were more frequently involved in right side lung cancer, with 8 and 10 cases, respectively and subaortic Iymph node was most frequently involved in left side lung cancer with 9 cases. Operative complications were hoarseness, wound infection and chylothorax in 7, 5 and 4 cases, respectively. The operative mortality was 2.2% and the cause of death was pulmonary edema. Postoperative follow-up period ranged from 1 month to 99 months with a mean of 29.95 $\pm$ 17.21 months. Overall one-year survival rate was 75.1 % and five-year survival rate was 29.8%. One-year and five-year survival rates were 93.7% and 52.4% for stage 1, 92.2% and 30.5% for st ge ll, and 61.2% and 17.4% for stage llla, respectively. These findings correlate survival rate with tumor size, mediastinal Iymph node metastasis and surgical resectability, and long-term survival can be expected with small sized tumor, absent mediastinal Iymph node metastasis and complete surgical resection.
This study was conducted to investigate effects of dietary supplementation of lysine and leucine on growth performance and meat quality parameters in finishing pigs. The experiment was designed using lysine levels(0.45%, 0.75%) and leucine levels(1.0%, 2.0%, 3.0%) according to 2×3 factorial design. A total of thirty-six pigs[(Landrace×Yorkshire)×Duroc] with an average initial weight of 75.5±2kg were allotted to one of the six dietary treatments. Each treatment had three replications of two pigs per replicate. No difference was found in average daily gain(P>0.05), while feed intake and feed/gain were higher in 0.45% of lysine treatments than in 0.75% of lysine treatments(P<0.05). Retail lean meat percentage was lower in 0.45% of lysine treatments than in 0.75% of lysine treatments(P<0.05), but there were no differences in other carcass characteristics(P>0.05). Marbling score was significantly increased(P<0.05) in 0.45% of lysine treatments compared to 0.75% of lysine treatments, while other meat quality parameters were not affected by lysine levels(P>0.05). Supplemental dietary leucine had no effect on growth performance, carcass characteristics, and meat quality parameters(P>0.05) except that Hunter b* value were increased with added levels of leucine(P<0.05). In conclusion, feeding of lysine-deficient diets in finishing pigs improved marbling scores of pork. Feeding diets high in leucine, however, did not increase intramuscular fat or marbling scores.

Objectives : This study investigated the improvement effects of Gangjihwan (DF) and combination of Gangjihwan and Gamisochehwan (GSH) on nonalcoholic fatty liver disease in a high fat diet-induced obese mouse model. Methods : Eight-week-old C57BL/6N mice were divided into five groups: a normal lean group given a standard diet, an obese control group given a high fat diet, and atorvastatin, DF, and DF+GSH groups given a high fat diet with atorvastatin (10 mg/kg), DF (40 mg/kg), and DF+GSH (80 mg/kg), respectively. After 8 weeks of treatment, body weight gain, blood lipid markers, ALT concentrations, liver weight and histology were examined. Results : 1. Body weight gain was significantly decreased in DF, DF+GSH and atorvastatin groups compared with control. The extent of decreases was eminent in DF+GSH group. 2. Circulating concentrations of total cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol were decreased in DF, DF+GSH and atorvastatin groups compared with control. The decreases were significant in DF+GSH and atorvastatin groups. 3. Liver weights were decreased in DF, DF+GSH and atorvastatin groups compared with control. In particular, liver weight was significantly reduced only in DF+GSH group. 4. Hepatic lipid accumulation was significantly decreased in DF, DF+GSH and atorvastatin groups compared with control, and the magnitude of which was more effective in DF+GSH group than in DF-only group. 5. Circulating ALT concentrations were decreased in DF, DF+GSH and atorvastatin compared with control, but ALS levels were significantly reduced only in DF+GSH group. Conclusions : In conclusion, these results suggest that DF decreases body weight gain, improves blood lipid metabolism, and reduces liver weight and hepatic lipid accumulation, contributing to the improvement of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. In addition, these effects were more effective in DF+GSH combination group than in DF-only group.

Circulating ALT concentrations were decreased in DF-a, DF-b, and atorvastatin groups compared with control, but ALS levels were significantly reduced only in DF-b group. Conclusions : In conclusion, these results suggest that DF-a and DF-b decrease body weight gain, improve blood lipid metabolism, and reduce liver weight and hepatic lipid accumulation, contributing to the improvement of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. In addition, these effects were similar between Pakistani and Chinese Ephedra herba-containing Gangjihwan.
Purpose : As the prevalence of childhood obesity is increasing, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, insulin resistance and diabetes mellitus have become problems. High homocysteine levels and low vitamin $B_{12}$ supplementation are acknowledged to have a role in coronary artery disease, but there are few studies on homocysteine, insulin and vitamin $B_{12}$ levels in obese children. We aimed to study whether homocysteine, insulin, vitamin $B_{12}$, folic acid levels could have any difference and relation in obese children. Methods : The disease group consisted of 27 children from 8 to 11 years old, whose obesity index was over 130. The control group consisted of 30 healthy children of the same age group. Obesity index and body mass index were calculated by height and body weight of the children, and their systolic and diastolic blood pressures at resting state were checked. Total cholesterol, triglyceride, homocysteine, insulin, vitamin $B_{12}$, folic acid levels were studied after 10 hours of fasting. Intracellular fluid, extracellular fluid, protein, mineral, muscle mass, lean body fat, fat mass and fat percentages were checked by bioelectrical impedance. Results : Homocysteine levels were higher in obese children($8.1{\pm}2.1{\mu}mol/mL$ vs. $4.9{\pm}1.0{\mu}mol/mL$). Insulin levels were also higher in obese children($26.8{\pm}11.2{\mu}IU/mL$ vs. $12.5{\pm}5.24{\mu}IUl/mL$). Vitamin $B_{12}$ was lower in obese children($798.6{\pm}174.3pg/mL$ vs. $967.8{\pm}405.0pg/mL$). But there was not a difference in the folic acid levels between the two groups. In obese children, systolic blood pressure (r=0.535), triglyceride(r=0.517), total cholesterol(r=0.408), folic acid(r=0.408), vitamin $B_{12}$(r=0.338) and abdomoanl fat %(r=0.306) had a positive correlation. Conclusion : We found definite differences of insulin, homocysteine, and vitamin $B_{12}$ plasma levels in obese children, but we need more study to use those parameters as risk factors of metabolic syndrome in pediatric obese patients.

This study investigates the effects of the degree of preparation engaged in the related industry, and the amount of financial support program on R&D performance of technology based startup companies. This study seeks to discover the core variables that impacts most on business performance. However, it should be noted that the validity of such variables and their impacts on business performance can be contentious. The study sets hypothetical variables as following. Intensity of preparation of the startup company, amount of preparation and amount of work experience in related industry are independent variable. The amount of financial support program was selected as a moderating mediating variable. According to the results, the intensity of preparation had a positive relationship with R&D performance, as opposed to work experience of the founder having a negative relationship on R&D performance. The amount of support program had no significant relationship with R&D performance. Furthermore, there are negative modified effect between the amount of support program and work experience. And, there is no relationship modified effect between support program and work experience. Existing policies tend to lean heavily toward young entrepreneurs through support and guidance. The government has placed great emphasis on policies that aim to promote and create jobs for young individuals. The results suggest that the government should review their policies toward young technological entrepreneurs and that these entrepreneurs should prepare thoroughly before launching any startups.
Data of 369 commercial pigs produced from YorkshrexLancrace (YL F1) sows crossed with either Duroc (D), Berkshire (B) or BerkshirexDuroc(BD F1) as a terminal sire were used for the comparison of carcass garde and real retail cut yield. The crosses were performed between May, 2004 and May, 2006 at three interrlated farms belonging to the Gyeongam pork brand. The average carcass weight, carcass backfat thickness, carcass rate, AB grade ratio, lean meat yield were 84.78±0.33kg, 20.72±0.237mm, 76.25±0.208%, 85.7% and 44.30±0.158%, respectively. The average weights of real retail cut were 10.32±0.062kg belly, 4.17±0.025kg boston butt, 3.88±0.022kg rib, 8.40±0.040kg picnic, 15.15±0.081kg ham, 6.44±0.043kg loin and 0.94±0.006kg tender loin. In comparisons of carcass traits among cross types, carcass weights and backfat thicknesses of YL(♀)×B(♂), YL(♀)×BD(♂) and YL(♀)×D(♂) were 85.73±0.516kg, 82.69±0.788kg and 84.79±0.603kg, respectively and 22.09±0.356mm, 20.33±0.543mm and 19.58±0.415mm, respectively. The YL(♀)×B(♂) cross showed the highest carcass weight and backfat thickness. The ratio of AB grade were 0.83±0.030% in YL(♀)×B(♂), 0.97±0.046% in YL(♀)×BD(♂) and 0.83±0.035% in YL(♀)×D(♂), and the YL(♀)×BD(♂) was higher than other two crosses. Weights of belly were 10.28±0.092kg in YL(♀)×B(♂), 10.59±0.133kg in YL(♀)×BD(♂) and 10.25±0.107kg in YL(♀)×D(♂). Consequently, the YL(♀)×BD(♂) cross showed the highest yield. In conclusion, there was no difference in carcass yield of commercial pigs derived from BD (F1) terminal sires with those from D terminal sires. However, weight of belly and AB grade ratio from BD (F1) terminal sires are higher than two others. Therefore, BD (F1) sire could be utilized as terminal one and contribute better profit for the pig industry.

Purpose : Obesity is associated with disturbances of ventilatory functions in adults. But few studies have evaluated the pulmonary complications of obesity in the pediatric population. The purpose of this study is to clarify the effects of obesity on pulmonary function and body composition in obese children. Methods : Forty seven obese children whose ages ranged from nine to twelve years were evaluated for their body composition(intracellular fluid, extracellular fluid, protein mass, mineral mass, soft lean mass, fat mass, percent body fat, fat distribution) by bioelectrical impedance analysis. Hemoglobin, serum glucose, aspartate aminotransferase(AST), alanine aminotransferase(ALT), total cholesterol and triglycerides were measured. Pulmonary function test was performed by spirometer. Results : Intracellular fluid, protein mass, fat mass, percent body fat and fat distribution were significantly higher in severely obese children with an obesity index of more than 150 percent compared with those with an index of less than 150 percent. Peak expiratory flow rate(PEFR) was significantly lower in severely obese children with obesity index of more than 150 percent compared with those with less than 150 percent($241.7{\pm}14.6L/sec$ vs $276.8{\pm}64.3L/sec$). PEFR, forced expiratory flow 25 percent($FEF_{25}$), mid expiratory flow rate(MEFR), forced expiratory flow 50 percent($FEF_{50}$), forced expiratory volume in 1st second($FEV_1$) and forced vital capacity(FVC) were decreased in 37.0 percent, 14.8 percent, 14.8 percent, 11.1 percent, 3.7 percent and 3.7 percent of obese children, respectively. Conclusion : PEFR was significantly decreased in obese children. Pulmonary function test must be performed in severely obese children and more extended study is needed in other age groups.

Purpose : Obesity is a significant health problem with medical and psychological consequences for children and adolescents. The purpose of this study was to assess the correlation between body fat percent using bioelectrical impedance(BI) and other variable methods. Methods : We measured height, weight, body mass index(BMI) and body fat percent by skinfold thickness(ST) and BI in 1,035(496 male; 539 female) children from seven to 18 years of age. The correlation coefficients between BI and each of the other different methods were obtained. The sensitivity and specificity to predict obesity by these several methods were studied. Results : Fat percent estimated by BI analysis and BMI showed a strong correlation(r=0.749). Fat percent estimated by BI analysis and ST showed a very strong correlation(r=0.835). At the 95th percentile cut-off point for BI, ST showed a sensitivity of 57.7%, and a specificity of 97.6% for estimating body fat. At the 95th percentile cut-off point for BI, BMI showed a sensitivity of 84.9%, and a specificity of 99.3% for estimating body fat. Conclusion : The fat percent estimated by BI analysis correlated strongly with ST or BMI. BI analysis is an objective and accurate method for estimating body fat in childhood obesity.

This study examined the effects of different performance sequences of aerobic and strength exercises for 10 weeks on the body composition, physical function, and hormones in males aged in their 20s. A total of 30 subjects (N=30) were assigned randomly to either aerobic and resistance exercise (n=10, A+R), resistance and aerobic exercise (n=10, R+A), or a control group (n=10, CON). The different order of aerobic (HRmax 50-80%, 30 min) and resistance (50-80% 1RM, 30 min) exercises for 10 weeks was consisted of 3 times per week and 80 minutes per session. The body composition, physical function, and hormones were measured before and after the training period. The lean body mass (p=.015) was increased and the fat mass (p=.042) and % body fat (p=.007) in the A+R were decreased. The skeletal muscle mass (p=.001) in the R+A was increased and % body fat was decreased (p=.003). The weight (p=.03) and % body fat (p=.039) in the CON were increased. The aerobic capacity (p=.011) and muscular endurance (p=.001) in the A+R group were improved. The muscular endurance (p=.0016) in the R+A was improved. The epinephrine (p=.048), norepinephrine (p=.013), and cortisol (p=.045) levels in the A+R group were increased. The epinephrine (p=.046) level in the R+A group was increased. The insulin (p=.007) level increased in the CON group. In conclusion, both A+R and R+A groups produced superior results to the CON group but the A+R group was slightly more efficient than the R+A group.
