Of 1, 428 entries examined to locate gene sources resistant to Septoria brown spot from the Korean native soybean collection, most lines were evaluated as highly susceptible, showing numerous leaf spots with surrounding yellowing tissue, while 136 lines of the entries showed the leaf spots without the yellowing. However, leaf defoliation was so much higher in inoculated soybean plants than those of uninoculated, regardless of leaf yellowing that resistance to Septoria brown spot could not be characterized by the lesion type. Various yield composing characters were negatively correlated to the leaf defoliation, suggesting that early defoliation incited by Septoria brown spot might result in significant yield reduction in soybean.

This study investigated the impact of two distinct MS basal media: one containing FeNaEDTA and the other FeEDDHA, on the growth of five unique gerbera cultivars (Shy Pink, Pink Holic, Breeze, Harmony, Snow Dream). Notably, the response to these media types varied significantly among the cultivars, particularly concerning leaf yellowing and plant growth. 'Shiny Pink' and 'Pink Holic' exhibited leaf yellowing on the FeNaEDTA-containing medium but displayed leaf greening on the FeEDDHA-containing medium. In contrast, 'Snow Dream,' 'Harmony,' and 'Breeze' remained unaffected on both medium types. However, the FeNaEDTA-containing medium promoted higher plant height and petiole length in 'Breeze,' 'Harmony,' and 'Snow Dream' than the FeNaEDTA-containing medium did. A promotive effect of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) on plant growth and leaf greening was observed in 'Pink Holic,' particularly on the FeNaEDTA-containing medium, while the addition of AgNPs to the FeEDDHA-containing medium negatively affected plant growth. These results highlight the substantial influence of medium type, specifically the presence of FeNaEDTA or FeEDDHA, on gerbera growth responses, emphasizing the critical role of medium selection in gerbera propagation. Additionally, when contemplating the addition of AgNPs for in vitro gerbera propagation, it is crucial to consider the medium type.
Zoysiagrass possessing the leaf yellowing with excessive tillers was first found in a golf course in Gyunggi province at last three to four years ago and since then have rapidly spread many golf courses in Korea. The symptom is very similar to that of yellow tuft or downy mildew, which is caused by Sclerophthora macrospora, on cool-season turfgrasses including Kentucky bluegrass and ryegrass. Microscopic study was firstly carried out to look over the presence of the pathogen in the infected leaf and stem tissues. Oospores and sporangia, reported as typical indicators of downy mildew, were obviously observed from the infected leaves. Using a set of primers based on the 18S ribosomal DNA from S. macrospora, the specific DNA fragment corresponding the gene was amplified. This study reveals that S. macrospora might be involved in spread of leaf yellowing of zoysiagrass with excessive tillers.
The silk fabrics were treated with color solution extracted from leaf of Camellia. The depression effect of destruction and yellowing of silk treated with color solution, shift of UV-VIS spectra of color solution, color difference of silk fabrics by dyeing with acid dyes and drycleaning fastness of silk treated with color solution were studied. UV-VIS spectra appeared to hypsochromic shift by irradiation. The decrease of tensile strength and the elongation of the silk treated with color solution showed depressed but those of untreated silk increased by irradiation. The yellowness index of silk treated with color solution showed a little change by irradiation. The color difference after dyeing with several acid dyes on treated and untreated silk showed not remarkable changes. Dsrycleaning fastness of silk treated by color solution was excellent.

Leaf blight of kudzu ( Pueraria lobata ) was found in Jeonbuk province in 2002. The main symptoms appeared as leaf blight and showed yellowing and wilting. The causal pathogen of the leaf blight was isolated from symptomed kudzu leaf and produced white to cream, usually floccose mycelium. It readily formed reddish orange mycelium on PDA. It produced typical microconidia and macroconidia. The microconidia were the reniform. The macroconidia were wide, slightly curved, usually 3 to 4 septate and size was 45 ∼ 85 ${\times}$ 5 ∼ l0$\mu\textrm{m}$. The pathogen produced chlamydospore singly on short hyphal branches within 2 to 3 weeks, which was hyaline, globose, and smooth walled. The pathogen was, therefore, identified as Fusarium solani based on cultural and morphological characters. This is the first report on the leaf blight of kudzu caused by Fusarium solani in Korea.
Cultivar Yeollow Special A, the most leading Korean economic leaf tobacco in Korea, were field-cultivated in four different localities of Korea for the period of two years (1970 and 1971) and sprayed at varied levels of 2-chloroethyl phosphonic acid (CEPA) for foliar application few days after topping. While no striking difference in leaf yield by weight was obtained among the treatments when compared with control, leaf quality as expressed for shipment price in won tended when compared with control, leaf quality as expressed for shipment price in won tended to improve. The treated leaves with 300 to 900 ppm of CEPA (approximately 140 1/acre of 500 ppm) not only showed yellowing and accelerated maturity to pick 4 to 5 days with practicable optimal level earlier than control, but also speeded up to take nearly with practicable optimal level earlier than control, but also speeded up to take nearly last half of the total time required for the five stages of flue-curing. It is therefore considered that CEPA is as effective maturity-accelerating agent and useful as known for other solanaceous plants showing climacteric stage respiration, and discussions were made about physiological actions of ethylene gas released from CEPA at plant tissues sprayed.
During curing of aromatic tobacco leaves, coloring temperatures were set at 26, 30, 34, 38 and $42^{\circ}C$, and also leaf drying temperatures were established at 35, 40, 45, 50, 55 and $60^{\circ}C$, respectively, to investigate the thermal effect on characteristics of cured leaves. Appearance of yellow color from green was accelerated, the contents of non-volatile organic and higher fatty acids in leaves tended to increase with the higher yellowing temperature. Quality by price per kg was best at 45-$50^{\circ}C$ and score of smoking test was highest at 40-$50^{\circ}C$ during leaf drying stage. The concentrations of non-volatile organic acids and volatile essential oil inclined to decrease, but a reverse in this trend with higher fatty acids as temperature increased during leaf drying stage. The difference of other components was discussed.
All steps of the curing process are automatically controlled by preseted program according to stalk positions in flue-cured tobacco. The bulk curing experiment was carried out to evaluate the effect of the basic and modified curing program in curing time schedule of two bulk models in physical properties of cured leaves in a new flue-cured tobacco variety KF 114(Wicotiano tabacum L.). The curing process of KF 114 was prolonged in yellowing and quicker in browning stage than those of NC 82. There was no significant difference in physical properties and chromatic characteristics of the cured leaves between basic and modified program at two bulk models. The ratio of normal leaf color tended to increase and the greenish leaf decreased in the modified curing program of two models, but no difference in the brownish leaf ratio was olserved between two programs.
