  • For a new generation of white light sources, we present the first example of a concentration-independent ultimate white-light-emitting molecule based on excited-state intramolecular proton transfer materials. Our molecule is composed of covalently linked blue- and orange-light-emitting moieties between which energy transfer is entirely frustrated, leading to the production of reproducible, stable white photo- and electroluminescence.

  • New heteroleptic tris-cyclometalated iridium complex, $Ir(ppy)_2(dpq-5CH_3)$, was prepared, where ppy and $dpq-5CH_3$ represent phenylpyridine and 2(5'-methyl)- 4-diphenylquinoline, respectively. The heteroleptic iridium complex shows high luminescence efficiency by the intramolecular energy transfer from the energy absorbing ppy ligands to the luminescent $dpq-5CH_3$ ligand leading to a decrease on quenching or energy deactivation.

  • The red seabream iridovirus (RSIV), which belongs to the iridoviridae, causes infectious fish diseases in many Asian countries, leading to considerable economic losses to the aquaculture industry. Using the yeast surface display (YSD) technique, a new experimental system was recently developed for the detection and identification of a variety of marine viruses. In this study, a coat protein gene of RSIV was synthesized based on the nucleotide sequence database and subcloned into the yeast expression vector, pCTCON2. The expression of viral coat proteins in the yeast strain, EBY100, was detected by flow cytometry and Western blot analysis. Finally, they were isolated from the yeast surface through a treatment with ${\beta}$-mercaptoethanol. The data suggests that the YSD system can be a useful method for acquiring coating proteins of marine viruses.

  • A process of 3-D stereo particle image velocimetry(PIV)was developed for the measurement of an illuminated sliced section field of 3-D complex flows. The present method includes modeling of camera by a calibrator based on the homogeneous coordinate system, transformation of the oblique-angled image to the right-angled image, identification of 2-D velocity vectors by 2-D cross-correlation equation, stereo matching of 2-D velocity vectors of two cameras, accurate calculation of 3-D velocity vectors by homogeneous coordinate system, removal of error vectors by a statistical method followed by a continuity equation criteria, and finally 3-D display as the post processing. An experimental system was also used for the application of the proposed method. Two high speed digital CCD cameras and an Argon-Ion Laser for the illumination were adopted to clarify the time-dependent characteristics of the leading edge extension(LEX) in a highly swept shape applied to a delta wing found in modern air-fighters.

  • Chemical species during growth of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) in direct current-plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition were studied in details using $C_3H_4-NH_3$ and $CO-NH_3$ mixtures through optical emission spectroscopy (OES). In the $C_3H_4-NH_3$ system, the relative intensities of CN (388.3 nm) and CH (431.4 nm) decreased and that of $C_2$ (436 nm) increased, leading to $sp^2$-graphization into the CNT structure, leading to improvement of field emission property of CNTs. In the $CO-NH_3$ system, the trend is completely reversed. Attributing to the atomic oxygen for helping the graphitization of carbon, CNTs could be grown under the flow rate of CO (180 sccm)-$NH_3$ (10 sccm). Through these results, we suggest the growth mechanism in our system.

  • Plasma display Panels(PDPs) are one of the leading technologies currently under development for large-area high-brightness flat panel displays. However, the luminance and luminous efficiency of at PDPs should be improved. Especially, one of the main factors affecting on the luminance and luminous efficiency of ac PDP may be the phosphor thickness and size of discharge space. In this study, we examined into addressing time, electrical and optical properties as a parameter of the phosphor thickness and the size of discharge space during the display period of ac PDP. It is found out that the optimum phosphor thickness was $50{\mu}m$ and height of discharge space was about $100{\mu}m$.

  • LED (Light Emitting Diode) lighting is gaining more and more market penetration as one of the global warming countermeasures. LED is the next generation of fusion source composed of epi/chip/packaging of semiconductor process technology and optical/information/communication technology. LED has been applied to the existing industry areas, for example, automobiles, TVs, smartphones, laptops, refrigerators and street lamps. Therefore, LED makers have been striving to achieve the leading position in the global competition through development of core source technologies even before the promotion and adoption of LED technology as the next generation growth engine with eco-friendly characteristics. However, there has been a point of view on the cost compared to conventional lighting as a large obstacle to market penetration of LED. Therefore, companies are developing a Chip-Scale Packaging (CSP) LED technology to improve performance and reduce manufacturing costs. In this study, we perform patent analysis associated with Flip-Chip CSP LED and flow chart for promising technology forecasting. Based on our analysis, we select key patents and key patent players to derive the business strategy for the business success of Flip-Chip CSP PKG LED products.

  • Metamorphic HEMTs (MHEMTs) have emerged as excellent challenges for the design and fabrication of high-speed HEMTs for millimeter-wave applications. Some of improvements result from improved mobility and larger conduction band discontinuity in the channel, leading to more efficient modulation doping, better confinement, and better device performance compared with conventional pseudomorphic HEMTs (PHEMTs). For the optimized device design and development, we have performed the calibration on the DC characteristics of our fabricated 0.1 ${\mu}m$ ${\Gamma}$-gate MHEMT device having the modulation-doped $In_{0.52}Al_{0.48}As/In_{0.53}Ga_{0.47}$As heterostructure on the GaAs wafer using the hydrodynamic transport model of a commercial 2D ISE-DESSIS device simulator. The well-calibrated device simulation shows very good agreement with the DC characteristic of the 0.1 ${\mu}m$ ${\Gamma}$-gate MHEMT device. We expect that our calibration result can help design over-100-GHz MHEMT devices for better device performance.

  • Star-like ZnO nanostructures were grown on SI(100) substrates with carbon(C) catalyst by employing vapor-solid(VS) mechanism. The morphologies and structure of ZnO nanostructures were investigated by Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Raman spectrum, Photoluminescence spectrum. The results demonstrated that the as-synthesized products consisted of star-like ZnO nanostructure with hexagonal wurtzite phase. Nanostructures grown at 1100 were mainly star-like in structure with diameters of 500 nm. The legs of the star-like nanostructures were preferentially grown up along the [0001] direction. A vapor.solid (VS) growth mechanism was proposed to explain the formation of the star-like structures. Photoluminescence spectrum exhibited a narrow emission band peak around 380 nm and a broad one around 491 nm. Raman spectrum of the ZnO nanostructures showed oxygen defects in ZnO nanostructures due to the existence of Ar gas during the growth process, leading to the dominant green band peak in the PL spectrum.
