"Trust Makes Safety": The Effect of Workload on Safety Behavior ("신뢰가 안전을 만든다.": 작업 부담이 안전 행동에 미치는 영향)

  • This present study tested whether job stress mediates the relationship between workload and safety behavior of members in organization. In addition, we hypothesized trust in leader/coworkers functions as moderator between not only the workload-job stress link, but also the job stress-safety behavior link. In order to investigate the hypotheses, 841 employees in various fields of companies were sampled. Using structural equation modeling(SEM), we conducted moderated mediation model analysis which elaborately investigated the significance of our hypotheses. The results indicated that job stress mediated the link between workload and safety behavior of members. In addition, the relationship between workload and job stress was moderated by trust in leader/coworkers. Moreover trust in leader/coworkers moderated the job stress-safety behavior linkage. The implications and limitations of our study and suggestions for future research were discussed.

The Effects on the Trust of the Leaders and Organizational Commitment on the Revolutionary Leadership to Canoe Leaders (카누 지도자의 변혁적 리더십이 지도자의 신뢰와 조직몰입에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to find out how a canoe leader's revolutionary leadership affects his trust and how a leader's trust affects the organizational commitment. 350 participants were selected out of male and female registered as canoeists by the Korea Canoe Federation in 2011 through the random sampling. Except for 26 data with those not seriously taken, 324 responses were taken as valid samples. Frequency analysis, reliability analysis, factor analysis, correlation analysis, and multi-regression analysis have been conducted. The conclusion is as follows: First, a leader's revolutionary leadership positively affects his trust. Secondly, a leader's revolutionary leadership has a positive effect on his organizational commitment. Lastly, a leader's trust positively affect the organizational commitment.

  • This study attempted to show the importance of trust in a leader by empirically analyzing the relationship between transformational and transactional leadership, organizational effectiveness and trust in a leader. Four hypotheses were formulated and a survey was conducted to examine employees working in hotels in order to verify the hypotheses. Based on the data, leadership, trust in a leader, its relation with organizational effectiveness, and the mediating role of trust in a leader of a hotel were analyzed. The results showed that trust affects the partial mediating or the perfect mediating between leadership and organizational effectiveness. It is hoped that the result of this study will contribute to the development of leadership in the hotel industries in the future.

A Study on the Influence of Servant Leadership and Trust in Leader on Organizational Performance (서번트 리더십이 상사신뢰와 조직성과에 미치는 영향에 관한 실증적 연구)

  • In this study, an analysis has been conducted as to; (i) what factors affect organizational members trust in leader (ii) how does members trust in leader affect the variable of organizational performance in an organization. In order to attain the objective of this study, a model was established and also the hypothesis was verified on the basis of preceding studies. The findings of this study could be summarized as follows: 1. Servant leadership which is considered as preceding factors affecting trust in leader, were found to have a positive relation with trust in leader. 2. In connection with the role of trust, its mediator effect between its preceding factor and outcome variables was verified. As a result of the analysis, it was verified that servant leadership and trust in leader affected outcome variables not only directly but also indirectly through trust. 3. As a result of analyzing the effect that the trust in leader has on outcome variables, the trust in leader was found to have a positively significant effect on organizational citizenship behavior, organizational commitment and job satisfaction.

Effects of Coaching Leadership and Moderating Effects of Trust in Leader and Followership on Job Satisfaction among Dental Hygienists (치과위생사의 코칭리더십 인식이 직무만족에 미치는 영향과 상사신뢰 및 팔로워십의 조절효과)

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to suggest an efficient human-resources direction for the management of dental hygienists, the study analyzes the influential relationship between superior's coaching leadership as perceived by dental hygienists and their on the job satisfaction, and proves the moderating effects of leader trust and of followership in the process. Methods : To test the empirical model, data were collected by survey using structural self-administered questionnaires that were distributed to 300 dental hygienists working at dental clinics in the Busan, Ulsan, Gyeongnam, and Gyeonggi areas, from 27 March to 10 April, 2015, 286 cases were used in final analysis. Results : Coaching leadership is found to have a significant influence on job satisfaction. Trust in a leader showed a significant main moderating effect on job satisfaction, on the other hand, followership showed a significant main effect, but no significant moderating effect, on job satisfaction. Conclusions : The results of this study imply that leadership factors such as coaching leadership and leader trust are crucial for improving the job satisfaction of dental hygienists, therefore, a program for enhancing the leadership skills of dental managers is needed in dental health organizations.

  • Due to the continuous spread of COVID-19 and the overall decline of the global economy, the business environment of Chinese SMEs is poor, the level of abusive supervision among managers of Chinese SMEs has generally risen state. First of all, the management' abusive supervision has a negative impact on the members' trust in leader. Secondly, the members' trust in leader has a negative impact on the members' knowledge hiding. However, the members' trust in leader has a positive impact on job engagement. Accordingly, this study puts forward some revelations on how to reduce the management' abusive supervision in Chinese small and medium-sized enterprises and the members' knowledge hiding, as well as how to improve the members' knowledge hiding and job engagement.

Effects of Authentic Leadership and Leader-Member Exchange on Employee Psychological Ownership and Organizational Commitment

  • Purpose - Small- and medium-sized enterprises often rely on the owner's personal characteristics. This study aims to verify the impact of the awareness of such a business leader's sincerity and the sincerity of their leader-member exchange (LMX) on employee psychological ownership and organizational commitment. The findings offer clues to how small- and medium-sized company leaders should engage with employees. Research design, data, and methodology - A total of 289 valid questionnaires were examined using frequency, descriptive statistics, and correlation analyses and structured equation modeling. Results - Authentic leadership and LMX were both found to have a positive impact on each trust factor, each trust factor had a positive impact on psychological ownership and organizational commitment, and psychological ownership had a positive impact on organizational commitment. Conclusion - These results suggest that small- and medium-size company leaders should use self-awareness and self-regulation to encourage the recognition of their sincerity, and strive to achieve a positive relationship with employees. It also suggests that leaders should improve trust between employees and establish various strategies to enable employee psychological ownership.

Higher-Order Goals, Trust-in-Leader, and Self-Efficacy as Mediators of Transformational Leadership Performance: The Case of Multi-level Marketing Organizations in China

  • Although former scholarly studies mostly focus on exploring leadership effectiveness under the traditional hierarchical leader-subordinate relationship, the research of leadership performance for non-hierarchical organizational structures, particularly the mediating factors of higher-order goals, trust-in-leader, and self-efficacy have been ignored. This study, therefore, makes an attempt to ascertain the impacts of transformational leadership on the performance of subordinates through the mediating effects of higher-order goals, trust-in-leader, and self-efficacy and the differences of these effects in the context of multi-level marketing (MLM). Like the small-sample studies adopted by Barling, Weber, and Kelloway [1996], Barling, Slater, and Kelloway [2000] and Bass, Avolio, Jung, and Berson [2003], this study adopts a sample of 123 MLM distributors of an MLM company in Hong Kong, with a high response rate of 80.4%. The results indicate that the mediating effect of self-efficacy between transformational leadership and performance is significant under non-hierarchical organizational structures such as MLM in China.

The Effects of Servant Leadership on Subordinates' Trust in Leader and Job Engagement: A Suggestion for Context-Specific Leadership (서번트 리더십이 리더신뢰 및 직무몰입에 미치는 영향: 맞춤형 리더십의 제안)

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest a customized servant leadership by exploring the effects of stewardship and community building factors on the subordinates' trust in leader of lower hierarchy and their job engagement. Regression analysis showed that stewardship is higher than community building in terms of its influence on job engagement, while community building outstrips stewardship in terms of trust in leader. Specifically, two items of stewardship factor - valuing the opinions of the subordinates in decision-making, and sacrificing without giving priority to the leader's self-interest - influenced the subordinates' trust in their leader. Of the items in community building, cooperating rather than competition, abiding by the principles in performing the work, the leader's not seeking recognition or compensation, and giving the subordinates the necessary authority to perform their work put impacts on the subordinates' trust in the leader, as well. As for job engagement, helping subordinates grow and develop, and, if necessary, taking the risk of challenging the job have a significant impact. Among the items of community building, it was found that the leader's not seeking recognition or compensation, and keeping the principles strictly in performing her duties promote job engagement. Based on these results, we propose to managers of human resources department the selection and training of tailored talents to meet the environmental characteristics of each organization, while avoiding programs for hiring and training personnel equipped with the uniform qualities of servant leadership.

The Relationships among Transformational Leadership, Trust in Organization, Leader's Emotional Intelligence, Members' creativity in ICT Sector (ICT기업에서 변혁적 리더십, 조직신뢰, 리더의 감성지능 및 창의성의 관계)

  • This paper investigates the relationships among transformational leadership, organizational trust, and creativity in ICT(information & communication technology) company. Also the study investigates the moderator effect of leader's emotional intelligence and the mediator effect of organizational trust in the relationships between transformational leadership and creativity. The multiple regression analysis was employed to test the hypotheses. Using survey data collected from 241 R&D department and support personnel in ICT company. The main finding of this study was as follows: First, a transformational leadership had a positive effect on employee creativity. Second, organizational trust had a positive impact on employee creativity. Third, transformational leadership had a positive effect on organizational trust. Fourth, organizational trust turned out not to mediate the relationship between transformational leadership and employee creativity. Fifth, the positive relationships between transformational leadership and employee creativity were stronger when leader's emotional intelligence was high rather than low. In particular, this review concludes with implications for future research, limitations of this study, and practical application.
