  • This paper presents a low-complexity triple-error-correcting parallel Bose-Chaudhuri-Hocquenghem (BCH) decoder architecture and its efficient design techniques. A novel modified step-by-step (m-SBS) decoding algorithm, which significantly reduces computational complexity, is proposed for the parallel BCH decoder. In addition, a determinant calculator and a error locator are proposed to reduce hardware complexity. Specifically, a sharing syndrome factor calculator and a self-error detection scheme are proposed. The multi-channel multi-parallel BCH decoder using the proposed m-SBS algorithm and design techniques have considerably less hardware complexity and latency than those using a conventional algorithms. For a 16-channel 4-parallel (1020, 990) BCH decoder over GF($2^{12}$), the proposed design can lead to a reduction in complexity of at least 23 % compared to conventional architecttures.

  • In this paper, we propose a modified Viterbi algorithm to compensate for endpoint detection error during the decoding phase of an isolated word recognition task. Since the conventional Viterbi algorithm explores only the search space whose boundaries are fixed to the endpoints of the segmented utterance by the endpoint detector, the recognition performance is highly dependent on the accuracy level of endpoint detection. Inaccurately segmented word boundaries lead directly to recognition error. In order to relax the degradation of recognition accuracy due to endpoint detection error, we describe an unconstrained search of word boundaries and present an algorithm to explore the search space with efficiency. The proposed algorithm was evaluated by performing a variety of simulated endpoint detection error cases on an isolated word recognition task. The proposed algorithm reduced the Word Error Rate (WER) considerably, from 84.4% to 10.6%, while consuming only a little more computation power.

  • This paper presents the error factors of Fall-of-potential test method used in measurements of the grounding-system impedance. This test methods inherently can introduce two possible errors in the measurements of grounding-system impedance: (1) ground mutual resistance due to current flow through ground from the ground electrode to the current probe, (2) ac mutual coupling between the current test lead and the potential test lead. The errors of ground mutual resistances and ac mutual coupling are expressed by the equation in calculating grounding impedance. These equations were calculated by Matlab that is commercial tool using mathematical calculation. The results of calculation were applied to correct grounding impedance.

Based on coupling structure, the synchronous control system is composed of disturbance observer, speed and synchronous controllers. The speed controller is designed to follows speed reference. The disturbance observer is designed to restrain synchronous error. In addition, the synchronous controller is designed for a viewpoint of accurate synchronization in lead compensation law. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified through simulation.

  • This study deals with the effect of the honing in SCM420H planetary gears. The hardness, tooth profile, lead and roughness of the gear surface can be improved by honing. Therein, the honing techniques are welcomed especially as one of the physical surface improvement methods. As a result, gear honing reduces vibration and noise, and will increase the life of gear. And gear honing also changes the surface of gear tooth in a short time and price, so it is a very important method in manufacturing industry. But nowadays, it is hard to find the detail information of gear honing. The test gear is a planetary gear which is used in the automotive industry. It is manufactured by the hobbing, shaving, carburizing and honing. This study investigates the effect of honing in surface shape of SCM420H planetary gears, including fatigue strength test and characteristics of honing of SCM420H planetary gears.

  • In this paper error-compensating techniques in three-point weighing method to precisely measure unbalance properties such as center of gravity and unbalance moment. In the conventional static methods, 1) fixture-errors, 2) effects of the contact between the fixture and the load scales, and 3) side effect due to the lateral frictional forces acting on the contact points between the fixture and the load scales are the major factors that lead to measurement errors. The proposed error-compensating method perfectly eliminates both the fixture-error and the contact-error simultaneously by manipulating the three measured reaction forces at three different angular locations. Also the friction-error is calibrated by comparing the sum of three reactions with the actual mass of the specimen. A set of measurement is performed using the same measuring system as Lee's, and a comparison of the results from the convectional, Lee's, and the proposed method is provided. The results show that the proposed method effectively compensates the errors listed above.

  • The gear whine noise of vehicle transmission is directly correlated tilth the gear transmission error of mating gear The object of this study is to build up the synthesized countermeasure for the reduction of gear whine noire of vehicle transmission by developing the program which can be used to analyze and predict the vibrational characteristics caused by gear transmission error of mating gears of vehicle transmission. The developed mathematical models on the elements of transmission, for example, helical gear pairs, bearings and shafts are used and the modeling of the excitation forces are developed by the gear transmission error of mating gear which is defined by the amount of the elastic deformation of gear tooth & shaft and gear profile & lead errors. The mathematical system model of vehicle transmission developed by the substructure synthesis method Is also verified by the experiments.

  • The objective of this study was to analyze the impact of activation functions on flood forecasting model based on Artificial neural networks (ANNs). The traditional activation functions, the sigmoid and tanh functions, were compared with the functions which have been recently recommended for deep neural networks; the ReLU, leaky ReLU, and ELU functions. The flood forecasting model based on ANNs was designed to predict real-time runoff for 1 to 6-h lead time using the rainfall and runoff data of the past nine hours. The statistical measures such as R2, Nash-Sutcliffe Efficiency (NSE), Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE), the error of peak time (ETp), and the error of peak discharge (EQp) were used to evaluate the model accuracy. The tanh and ELU functions were most accurate with R2=0.97 and RMSE=30.1 (㎥/s) for 1-h lead time and R2=0.56 and RMSE=124.6~124.8 (㎥/s) for 6-h lead time. We also evaluated the learning speed by using the number of epochs that minimizes errors. The sigmoid function had the slowest learning speed due to the 'vanishing gradient problem' and the limited direction of weight update. The learning speed of the ELU function was 1.2 times faster than the tanh function. As a result, the ELU function most effectively improved the accuracy and speed of the ANNs model, so it was determined to be the best activation function for ANNs-based flood forecasting.

  • This paper proposes an error compensation method that improves accuracy with geometry information of injection molding parts. Geometric information can give an improved accuracy in reverse engineering. Measuring data can not lead to get accurate geometric model, including errors of physical parts and measuring machines. Measuring data include errors which can be classified into two types. One is molding error in product, the other is measuring error. Measuring error includes optical error of laser scanner, deformation by probe forces of CMM and machine error. It is important to compensate these in reverse engineering. Least square method (LSM) provides the cloud data with a geometry compensation, improving accuracy of geometry. Also, the functional shape of a part and design concept can be reconstructed by error compensation using geometry information.
