Many kind of damping materials are generally used on concrete slab in apartment building to reduce floor impact noise level. Lately, multi-layered damping material that is consist of several materials are used to improve the effect of floor impact noise insulation. In this study, dynamic stiffness of multi-layered damping material that is consist of common materials such as expanded polystyrene(EPS), expended polyethylene(EPE), ethylene vinyl acetate(EVA) and polyester was investigated. It was found that dynamic stiffness of multi-layered damping material could be estimated if know value of each layer that compose whole structure. And it was found that dynamic stiffness of whole structure did not change even if change order that build layer.
In order to fabricate double-layered porous materials powders of different particle sizes were pressed stepwise. Ford's equation which predicts the fired density with the change in pressed density was employed in order to adjust the difference in sintering shrinkage of the green body with double-layered porous structure. Double-layered porous materials were characterized by investigating microstructures and permeability. SEM micrographs showed the distinct difference in pore sizes of double-layered porous material. Permeability of single-layered porous material increased by increasing the starting particle sizes and porosity as well. Permeability of the double-layered porous material depends largely on the layer of small pore diameter.

In this paper the general equation of motion of damped sandwich beam including arbitrary viscoelastic material layer was derived based on the equation presented by Mead and Markus. The equation of motion of n-layered sandwich beam was represented by (n+3)th order ordinary differential equation. It was verified that the general equation of motion derived in this paper could represent the equations of motions for single-layered, three-layered, five-layered and multi-layered damped beam. Finite element method for the arbitrary-layered damped beam was formulated and programmed using higher order shape functions. Several numerical examples were implemented to show the effects of damped material.

We present a new design method of one-dimensional multi-layered acoustic foams for transmission loss maximization by topology optimization. Multi-layered acoustic foam sequences consisting of acoustic air layers and poroelastic material layers are designed for target frequency values. For successful topology optimization design of multi-layered acoustic foams, the material interpolation concept of topology optimization is adopted. In doing so, an acoustic air layer is modeled as a limiting poroelastic material layer; acoustic air and poroelastic material are handled by a single set of governing equations based on Biot's theory. For efficient analysis of a specific multi-layered foam appearing during optimization, we do not solve the differential equations directly, but we use an efficient transfer matrix approach which can be derived from Biot's theory. Through some numerical case studies, the proposed design method for finding optimal multi-layer sequencing is validated.
The methods for determining the diffusion parameters for the diffusion of d-limonene, a major volatile compound of orange juice, through a multi-layered food packaging material and predicting its absorption into the packaging material have been investigated. The packaging material used was the 1.5-mm thick multi-layered packaging material composed of high impact polystyrene (HIPS), polyvinylidene chloride (PVDC), and low density polyethylene (LDPE). Orange juice was placed in a cell where volatiles were absorbed in the sample package and kept at $23{\pm}2^{\circ}C$ for 72 hr. The d-limonene absorbed in a 1.5-mm thick multi-layered food packaging material was analyzed by a solid phase micro-extraction (SPME). The absorption parameters for the absorption of d-limonene in the packaging material were determined and absorption of d-limonene into the packaging material was predicted using absorption storage data. The SPME desorption at $60^{\circ}C$ for 1 hr resulted in the most sensitive and reproducible results. The diffusion coefficients of d-limonene in the packaging material and the partition coefficient at $23{\pm}2^{\circ}C$ were approximately $1-2{\times}10^{12}m^2$/s and 0.03, respectively. The absorption profile no earlier than 30 hr was fit well by a model derived from the Fick's law.
Non-brittle fracture behaviour of the two composite structures made of two different brittle materials was investigated using 3-point bending test. First, the layered and fibrous macro-composites were fabricated using the material easily formed, yet showing a brittle fracture behaviour similar to ceramics. The layered and fibrous Al2O3 /Al2O3 composites with weak interface were also fabricated using plate of 2 mm thickness and rod of 3 mm diameter respectively. Comparison of the mechanical properties between these two structures was performed in the lights of flexural strength and work of fracture for the composites consisting of Al2O3 and simulated materials respectively. The strength ratio of layered structure to the monolith of same volume was 0.6 and the ratio of fibrous one was about 0.2 for the composites made of simulated brittle material. The ratio of the work of fracture of the fibrous to the layered was 0.47. For Al2O3/Al2O3 composites, the strength ratio of layered and fibrous structures to the monolith with same volume were about 0.6 and 0.2 respectively. The ratio of work of fracture of the fibrous to the layered was 0.6. These confirmed that the layered structure was superior to the fibrous one in terms of flexural strength and work of fracture.

In this paper, the structural behavior of R.C. multi-layered floor structure including foam concrete layer is numerically analyzed. For the analysis, 3D interface element has been implemented to finite element analysis program to consider the interfacial behavior of multi-layered floor structure which consists of rubber layer, foam concrete layer and mortar layer on RC slab. Based on analysis results on multi-layered structure, its structural behavior is analyzed according to geometrical and material properties of foam concrete. Optimum material property of each layer of the floor structure is proposed to get optimum multi-layered concrete structure.

We have studied the field emission characteristics of multi-layered diamond-like-carbon (DLC) films deposited by vertical electrodes type plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition with CH$_4$ and H$_2$ mixture. We deposited a thin layer of DLC on the p$^{+}$-Si substrate and then turned off plasma before another deposition of a new DLC layer. The thickness and the number of DLC layers are varied. The emission characteristics of multi-layered DLC films were compared with conventional one. The multi-layered DLC film shows higher emission current than conventional one.e.
In this paper, wave propagation is studied and analyzed in double-layered nanotubes systems via the nonlocal strain gradient theory. To the author's knowledge, the present paper is the first to investigate the wave propagation characteristics of double-layered porous nanotubes systems. It is generally considered that the material properties of nanotubes are related to the porosity and hygro-thermal effects. The governing equations of the double-layered nanotubes systems are derived by using the Hamilton principle. The dispersion relations and displacement fields of wave propagation in the double nanotubes systems which experience three different types of motion are obtained and discussed. The results show that the phase velocities of the double nanotubes systems depend on porosity, humidity change, temperature change, material composition, non-local parameter, strain gradient parameter, interlayer spring, and wave number.

Oxygen evolution reaction is a critical bottleneck for the development of efficient electrochemical hydrogen production because of its sluggish reaction. Among various catalysts, transition metal-based layered double hydroxide has drawn significant attention due to their excellent catalytic properties and cost-effectiveness. This paper begins with basic crystal structures, and then conventional adsorbate evolution mechanism of layered double hydroxide. Strategies for enhancing catalytic properties based on adsorbate evolution mechanism and lattice oxygen mechanism that could surpass theoretical limit of adsorbate evolution mechanism are discussed. This paper ends with a brief discussion on the challenges and future directions of layered double hydroxide-based oxygen evolution reaction catalysts.
