  • A response of a swept wing boundary layer to a single free-stream stationary axial vortex of a limited spanwise extent is considered as an example of typical problems that one can find in laminar-turbulent transition research and control. The response is dominated by streamwise velocity perturbations that grow quasi-exponentially downstream. It is shown that the formation of the boundary layer disturbance occurs for the most part close to the leading edge. The disturbance represents itself a wave packet consisted of the waves with characteristics specific for cross-flow instability. However, an admixture of growing disturbances whose origin can be attributed to transient effects and to a distributed receptivity mechanism is also identified.

  • Air lubrication techniques for frictional drag reduction on ships have been proposed by numerous researchers since the 19th century. However, these techniques have not been widely adopted as questions persist about their drag reduction performance beyond the laboratory, as well as energy and economic cost-benefit. This paper draws on data from the literature to consider the suitability of air lubrication for large ocean going and U.S. Great Lakes ships, by establishing the basic energy economic calculations and presenting results for a hypothetical air lubricated ship. All the assumptions made in the course of the analysis are clearly stated so that they can be refined when considering application of air lubrication to a specific ship. The analysis suggests that, if successfully implemented, both air layer and partial cavity drag reduction could lead to net energy savings of 10 to 20%, with corresponding reductions in emissions.

  • This study presents numerical solutions of the two-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations for supersonic unsteady flow in a convergent-divergent nozzle with heat addition. The TVD scheme in generalized coordinates is employed in order to calculate the moving shock waves caused by thermal choking. We discuss on transient characteristics, start and unstart phenomena, fluctuations of specific thrust caused by thermal choking and viscous effects. We prove that the control of separation of boundary layer is the most important key problem to prevent the thermal choking.

  • Metal oxides with high dielectric constants have the potential to expend scaling of transistor gate capacitance beyond that of ultrathin silicon dioxide. However, during deposition of most metal oxides on silicon, an interfacial region of SiOx is formed and limits the specific capacitance of the gate structure. We deposisted aluminum oxide and examined the composition of the interfacial layer by employing high-resolution X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and X-ray reflectivity. We find that the interfacial region is not pure SiO$_2$, but is composed of a complex depth-dependent ternary oxide of $AlSi_xO_y$ and the pure SiO$_2$.

  • We have reported to make nanostructured cobalt oxide electrode that have large capacitance over than 400F/g (specific capacitance) and good cycleability. But, It had serious demerits of low voltage range under 0.5V and low power density. Therefore, we need to increase voltage range of cobalt oxide electrode. we report here on the electrochemical properties of sol-gel-derived nanoparticulate cobalt xerogel in 1M KOH solution and aqueous polymeric gel electrolyte. In solution electrolyte, cobalt oxide electrode had over than 250F/g capacitance consisted of EDLC and pseudocapacitance. In gel electrolyte, cobalt oxide electrode had around 100F/g capacitance. This capacitance was only surface EDLC. In solution electrolyte, potassium ion as working ion reacted with both of layers easily. However, In gel electrolyte, reacted with only surface-active layer. Its very hard to reach resistive layer. So, e have studied on pretretmetn of electrode to contain working ions easily. We'll report more details.

  • We discussed the thermal analysis for recording media with the variation of the laser pulse duration and the power and the temperature distribution for the optimized Te-based antireflection structure by using the computer calculations. If the radial diffusion of heat is negligible, we can calculate the maximum temperature at the spot center in recording layer by Simple Method, and the temperature profile considering the specific heat and the latent heat by Numerical Method. As a result, the effect of the heat sinking which acted as a loss for the hole formation can be minimized by introducing the pulse of the hole formation duration( $\tau$ ) shorter than the thermal time constant( $\tau$$\sub$D/) of dielectric layer. This requirments can be satisfied as using the dielectric thickness of the 7nd ART condition or the dielectric materials with low thermal diffusivity.

  • In this paper we are presenting a architecture of Co ion decorated graphene oxide as an electrode for supercapacitor application. Graphene oxide, which is exfoliated by oxidant from graphite, is the material for solving the problem of mass production and coating on the surface of working electrode. The $Co^{2+}$ ions are coated by using layer by layer(LBL) method on graphene oxide foam. The metal ion decorated graphene oxide shows enhanced capacitance performance when tested as supercapacitor electrode, showing the specific capacitance of $827Fg^{-1}$.

  • Meso-scale combustion is defined as combustion phenomena within limited characteristic length scales that are comparable with the laminar flame length scales. In the laminar flame theory, four representative length scales have been involved; i.e., a reaction layer thickness, a thermal layer thickness, a quenching distance, and a Markstein length. When the effects of these length scales on the flame characteristics are understood, the laminar flame theories can be clarified. Therefore, a study on the meso-scale combustion phenomena should not be thought as just a specific phenomena occurring in an exceptional combustion condition. Instead, all combustion phenomena within meso-scale spaces need to be explained by our knowledge. During this challenge, our understanding on laminar flame structures can be extended. Considering that most turbulent combustion phenomena in engineering application are still have local laminar flame structures, studies on laminar flame structures need to be re-visited especially in academic aspects.

  • The electrical effects of dry-etch on n-type GaN by an inductively coupled $Cl_2/CH_4/H_2/Ar$ plasma were investigated as a function of ion energy, by means of ohmic and Schottky metallization method. The specific contact resistivity(${\rho}_c$) of ohmic contact was decreased, while the leakage current in Schottky diode was increased with increasing ion energy due to the preferential sputtering of nitrogen. At a higher rf power, an additional effect of damage was found on the etched sample, which was sensitive to the dopant concentration in terms of the ${\rho}_c$ of ohmic contact. This was attributed to the effects such as the formation of deep acceptor as well as the electron-enriched surface layer within the depletion layer. Furthermore, thermal annealing process enhanced the ohmic and Schottky property of heavily damaged surface.
