This paper proposes an image classification algorithm that transforms the number of convolution layers in the residual block of ResNet, CNN's representative method. The proposed method modified the structure of 34/50 layer of ResNet structure. First, we analyzed the performance of small and many convolution layers for the structure consisting of only shortcut and 3 × 3 convolution layers for 34 and 50 layers. And then the performance was analyzed in the case of small and many cases of convolutional layers for the bottleneck structure of 50 layers. By applying the results, the best classification method in the residual block was applied to construct a 34-layer simple structure and a 50-layer bottleneck image classification model. To evaluate the performance of the proposed image classification model, the results were analyzed by applying to the cifar10 dataset. The proposed 34-layer simple structure and 50-layer bottleneck showed improved performance over the ResNet-110 and Densnet-40 models.

In this paper, the network performance of a turbo coded optical code division multiple access (COMA) system with cross-layer, which is between physical and network layers, concept is analyzed and simulated We consider physical and MAC layers in a cross-layer concept. An intensity-modulated/direct-detection (IM/DD) optical system employing pulse position modulation (PPM) is considered In order to increase the system performance, turbo codes composed of parallel concatenated convolutional codes (PCCCs) is utilized. The network performance is evaluated in terms of bit error probability (BEP). From the simulation results, it is demonstrated that turbo coding offers considerable coding gain with reasonable encoding and decoding complexity. Also, it is confirmed that the performance of such an optical COMA network can be substantially improved by increasing the interleaver length and the number of iterations in the decoding process. The results of this paper can be applied to implement the indoor optical wireless LANs.
In this paper, we proposed cross-layered approach of video codec and communication system for the efficient video streaming service. Conventional video streaming is served by divided system which consist of video codec layer and communication layer. Its disintegration causes the limitation of the performance of video streaming service. With the cross-layered design, each layer could share the information and the service is able to enhance the performance. And we proposed the selective retransmission method in communication system based on the cross-layered system that reflect the information of encoded video data. Selective retransmission method which consider the characteristics of video data improves the performance of video streaming services. We verified the proposed method with raw format full HD test sequence with H.264/AVC codec and MATLAB simulation. The simulation results show that the proposed method improves about 10% PSNR performance.
A conducting polymer layer was introduced into the pore surface of mesoporous carbon via vapor infiltration of a monomer and subsequent chemical oxidative polymerization. The polypyrrole, conducting polymer has attracted considerable attention due to the high electrical conductivity and stability under ambient conditions. The mesoporous carbon-polypyrrole nanocomposite exhibited the retained porous structure, such as mesoporous carbon with a three-dimensionally connected pore system after intercalation of the polypyrrole layer. In addition, the controllable addition of pyrrole monomer can provide the mesoporous carbon-polypyrrole nanocomposites with a tunable amount of polypyrrole and texture property. The polypyrrole layer improved the electrode performance in the electrochemical double layer capacitor. This improved electrochemical performance was attributed to the high surface area, open pore system with three-dimensionally interconnected mesopores, and reversible redox behavior of the conducting polypyrrole. Furthermore, the correlation between the amount of polypyrrole and capacitance was investigated to check the effect of the polypyrrole layer on the electrochemical performance.
In the present study, chitosan based self-healing anticorrosion coatings were prepared by layer by layer (lbl) addition of chitosan (Ch) and polyvinyl butyral (PVB) on mild carbon steel substrate. Chitosan coatings exhibited enhanced coating stability and corrosion resistance in aggressive environments by the application of a PVB top layer. Chitosan layer in the lbl coatings have been modified by using glutaraldehyde (Glu) and silica ($SiO_2$). Performance of different coatings was tested using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and immersion test. The best anticorrosion performance was observed in case of 10 % Ch_$SiO_2$_PVB coatings, which withstand immersion test over 25 days in 0.5 M salt solution without visible corrosion. 10 % Ch_$SiO_2$ coatings without the PVB top layer didn't last more than 3days. Application of PVB top layer sealed the defects in the chitosan pre-layer and improved its hydrophobic nature as well. Raman spectra and SEM of steel surfaces after corrosion study and removal of PVB_Ch/Glu_PVB coatings showed a passive layer of iron oxide, attributing to the self-healing nature of these coatings. Conducting particle like graphene reinforcement of chitosan in the lbl coatings enhanced corrosion resistance of chitosan coatings.

The fabricated photovoltaic cells based on PIN heterojunctions, in this study, have a structure of ITO/poly(3, 4-ethylenedioxythiophene)-poly(styrenesulfonate)(PEDOT:PSS)/donor/donor:C60(10nm)/C60(35nm)/2, 9-dimethyl-4, 7-diphenyl-1, 10-phenanthroline(8nm)/Al(100nm). The thicknesses of an active layer(donor:C60), an electron transport layer(C60), and hole/exciton blocking layer(BCP) were fixed in the organic photovoltaic cells. We investigated the performance characteristics of the PIN organic photovoltaic cells with copper phthalocyanine(CuPc), tetracene and pentacene as a hole transport layer. Discussion on the photovoltaic cells with CuPc, tetracene and pentacene as a hole transport layer is focussed on the dependency of the power conversion efficiency on the deposition rate and thickness of hole transport layer. The device performance characteristics are elucidated from open-circuit-voltage(Voc), short-circuit-current(Jsc), fill factor(FF), and power conversion efficiency($\eta$). As the deposition rate of donor is reduced, the power conversion efficiency is enhanced by increased short-circuit-current(Jsc). The CuPc-based PIN photovoltaic cell has the limited dependency of power conversion efficiency on the thickness of hole transport layer because of relatively short exciton diffusion length. The photovoltaic cell using tetracene as a hole transport layer, which has relatively long diffusion length, has low efficiency. The maximum power conversion efficiencies of CuPc, tetracene, and pentacene-based photovoltaic cells with optimized deposition rate and thickness of hole transport layer have been achieved to 1.63%, 1.33% and 2.15%, respectively. The photovoltaic cell using pentacene as a hole transport layer showed the highest efficiency because of dramatically enhanced Jsc due to long diffusion length and strong thickness dependence.
In cognitive radio networks (CRNs), the performance of the transmission control protocol (TCP) at the secondary user (SU) severely drops due to the mistrigger of congestion control. A long disruption is caused by the transmission of primary user, leading to the mistrigger. In this paper, we propose a cross-layer approach, called a CR-aware scheme that enhances TCP performance at the SU. The scheme is a sender side addition to the standard TCP (i.e., TCP-NewReno), and utilizes an explicit cross-layer signal delivered from a physical (or link) layer and the signal gives an indication of detecting the primary transmission (i.e., transmission of the primary user). We evaluated our scheme by implementing it onto a software radio platform, the Universal Software Radio Peripheral (USRP), where many parts of lower layer operations (i.e., operations in a link or physical layer) run as user processes. In our implementation, we ran our CR-aware scheme over IEEE 802.15.4. Furthermore, for the purpose of comparison, we implemented a selective ACK-based local recovery scheme that helps TCP isolate congestive loss from a random loss in a wireless section.
Transmit signal of Enhancement Layer in AT-DMB system is received by Coherent Detection, but in Base Layer of AT-DMB, a differential modulation and demodulation is adopted, same as the T-DMB. Especially for the coherent dectection of enhancement layer in AT-DMB system, a channel estimation must be employed. In this paper, I will show that the BER performance of Base-Layer in AT-DMB system will be improved by using the channel estimation information. The suggested method is focusing the constallations after Equalizaing to the nearlest ${\pi}$/4-shift DQPSK constallation points. Simulation results show that for the non-coding environment, the BER performance of AWGN channel, about 2-dB gain can be achieved at $10^{-4}BER$.

In this paper, we propose base layer repetition and HARQ schemes for improving the reliability and the performances of H.264 SVC video transmission in a wireless channel, and investigate its performances. The proposed method may solve the problems of transmission delay as well as the scarcity of wireless resources, since the proposed scheme was applied for only base layer, not for enhancement layer. The numerical results show that the proposed scheme can enhance the BER performance of $1.5{\times}10^{-5}$ and the FER of $1.2{\times}10^{-3}$, when SNR=3.4dB. Also, it was confirmed through the resultant images that the proposed method can improve the SVC performance in the wireless link.

The performance of polymer photovoltaic cells based on blends of poly(3-hexylyhiophene) (P3HT) and phenyl-C61-butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM) is strongly influenced by blend composition and thickness. Polymer photovoltaic cells based on bulk-heterojunction have been fabricated with a structure of ITO/poly(3, 4-ethylenedioxythiophene)-poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS)-pentacene/poly (3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT):phenyl-C61-butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM)/Al. We have prepared PEDOT:PSS by dissolving pentacene in N-methylpyrrolidine (NMP) and mixing with PEDOT:PSS. Pentacene was added a maximum concentration of approximately 5.5mg to the PEDOT:PSS solution and sonicated for 10 min. Active layer (P3HT:PCBM) (1:1) was strongly influenced by PEDOT:PSS-pentacene. We have investigated the performance of photovoltaic device with different concentration of P3HT:PCBM (1:1) 2.0wt%, 2.2wt%, 2.4wt% and 2.6wt%, respectively. The photocurrent and power conversion efficiency (PCE) showed a maximum between 2.0wt% and 2.2wt% concentration of P3HT:PCBM. This implied that both morphology and electron transport properties of the layer influenced the performance of the present photovoltaic cells. As the concentration of P3HT:PCBM blends as an active layer was increased, the power conversion efficiency was decreased. P3HT:PCBM layer and PEDOT:PSS-pentacene layer were characterized by work function, UV-visible absorption, atomic force microscopy (AFM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM).
