  • In this work we have studied the spin-lattice relaxation of $^{19}$F spins in benzotrifluoride in our quest for a reliable method of discriminating the contribution due to dipolar relaxation mechanism from that due to spin-rotational mechanism for nuclear spins located on methyl or substituted methyl group in organic molecules. Over the temperature range of 248-268 K the decay of normalized longitudinal magnetization was found to be well described by a two parameter equation of the form R(t) = exp(-st){$\frac{5}{6}$exp(-s$_1$)+$\frac{1}{6}$} which was derived under the assumption that interactions in the A3 spin system are modulated randomly and predominantly by internal rotational motions of -CF_3$ top, and it was shown that the separation of contribution due to dipolar interactions from that due to spin-rotation interaction could be successfully achieved by least-square fitting of observed data to this equation. The results indicate that the spin-rotational contribution is overwhelmingly larger than that of dipolar origin over the given temperature range and becomes more deminating at higher temperature.

  • new computational procedure for the Non-Linear Vortex Lattice Method (NLVLM) is suggested in this work. Conventional procedures suggested so far usually involves inner iteration loop to update free vortex shape and an under-relaxation based iteration loop to determine the free vortex shape. In this present work, we suggest a new formula based on quasi-steady concept to fix free vortex shape which eliminates the need for inner iteration loop. Further, the ensemble averaging of the induced velocities for a given free vortex segment evaluated at each iteration significantly improves the convergence property of the algorithm without resorting to the under-relaxation technique. Numerical experiments over several low aspect ratio wings are carried out to obtain optimal empirical parameters such as the length of the free vortex segment, the vortex core radius, and the rolled-up wake length.

  • Because most existing non-Newtonian models are not suitable for application to the lattice Boltzmann method, theoretical and numerical studies in this regard remain challenging. In this study, the hydrokinetic (HK) model was modified and applied to a 3D sudden contraction-expansion channel flow, and the characteristics of the HK model flow were evaluated to generate non-trivial predictions in three-dimensional strong shear flows. The HK model is very efficient for application to the lattice Boltzmann method because it utilizes the shear rate and relaxation time. However, the simulation would be unstable in a high shear flow field because the local relaxation time sharply decreases with an increase in the shear rate in a strong shear flow field. In the HK model, it may become necessary to truncate the relaxation time and non-dimensional parameter to obtain stable numerical results.

  • We have investigated nuclear magnetic resonance of $^{23}Na$ nucleus in $NaMgCl_3$ single crystal in the temperature range 200 K~410 K using FT-NMR spectrometer. The spin-lattice relaxation times $T_1$ of $^{23}Na$ nucleus residing at cubic symmetry in the host crystal was measured as a function of temperature. The $T_1$ of $^{23}Na$ nucleus decreased with increasing temperature. The nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate $1/T_1$ of $^{23}Na$ in $NaMgCl_3$ single crystal was proportional to the temperature T. This behavior is explained with the characteristic feature of the direct process between the nuclear spins and single phonon, $1/T_1$ being proportional to the absolute temperature. The activation energy calculated was $E_a=4.82J/mol$.

  • The $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-x}$ structure has been fluorinated by a gas phase exchange technique. The ${^19}F$NMR (nuclear magnetic resonance) spin-lattice relaxation rate (1/T1) measurements on a fluorinated sample gave superconducting energy gap of $2\Delta=4.6kT_c$.

  • So far, all reviews and control approaches of spin relaxation have been done on lateral single electron quantum dots. In such structures, many efforts have been done, in order to eliminate spin-lattice relaxation, to obtain equal Rashba and linear Dresselhaus parameters. But, ratio of these parameters can be adjustable up to 0.7 in a material like GaAs under high-electric field magnitudes. In this article we have proposed a single electron QD structure, where confinements in all of three directions are considered to be almost identical. In this case the effect of cubic Dresselhaus interaction will have a significant amount, which undermines the linear effect of Dresselhaus while it was destructive in lateral QDs. Then it enhances the ratio of the Rashba and Dresselhaus parameters in the proposed structure as much as required and decreases the spin states up and down mixing and the deviation angle from the net spin-down As a result to the least possible value.

  • The electrical transport properties of $La_{0.5}Sr_{0.5}CrO_3$ below room temperatures were investigated by dielectric, dc resistivity, magnetic properties and thermoelectric power. Below $T_c$, $La_{0.5}Sr_{0.5}CrO_3$ contains a dielectric relaxation process in the tangent loss and electric modulus. The $La_{0.5}Sr_{0.5}CrO_3$ involves the transition from high temperature thermal activated conduction process to low temperature one. The transition temperature corresponds well to the Curie point. The relaxation mechanism has been discussed in the frame of electric modulus spectra. The scaling behavior of the modulus suggests that the relaxation mechanism describes the same mechanism at various temperatures. The low temperature conduction and relaxation takes place in the ferromagnetic phase. The ferromagnetic state in $La_{0.5}Sr_{0.5}CrO_3$ indicates that the electron - magnon interaction occurs, and drives the carriers towards localization in tandem with the electron - lattice interaction even at temperature above the Curie temperature.

  • Pseudotetragonal ZrO0.75S whose space group is P212121 was synthesized and the cell dimensions were a=5.110(2) $\AA$, b=5.110(7) $\AA$, and c=5.198(8) $\AA.$ The space group P212121 seems to be resulted from lowering the symmetry of cubic ZrOS structure with P213 space group by lattice distortion due to the oxygen defects. In the distorted structure, bond shortening between metal-nonmetal by reduction of cell volume and alternation of Zr-Zr distance were observed. Dielectric constant and loss data of the bulk material in temperature range -170 to 20 $^{\circ}C$ and frequency range 50 Hz to 1 MHz showed that there was dielectric transition at around -70 $^{\circ}C$ originated from the relaxation of Zr-S segment. Comparing with ZrO2 exhibited the dielectirc constants, 9.0 at room temperature, ZrO0.75S showed high dielectric constant, k = 200.2 at 100 kHz. The activation energy of relaxation time due to dielectric relaxation of Zr-S was 0.47 eV (11.3 kcal/mole). According to the impedance spectra, ZrO0.75S showed more parallel circuit character between the resistance and capacitance components at the temperature (-70 $^{\circ}C)$ that the Zr-S dielectric relaxation was observed.

  • Two-dimensional turbulent flows past a square cylinder and cavity noise are simulated by the finite difference lattice Boltzmann method with subgrid turbulence model. The method, based on the standard Smagorinsky subgrid model and a single-time relaxation lattice Boltzmann method, incorporates the advantages of FDLBM for handling arbitrary boundaries. The results are compared with those by the experiments carried out by Noda & Nakayama and Lyn et al. Numerical results agree with the experimental ones. Besides, 2D computation of the cavity noise generated by flow over a cavity at a Mach number of 0.1 and a Reynolds number based on cavity depth of 5000 is calculated. The computation result is well presented a understanding of the physical phenomenon of tonal noise occurred primarily by well-jet shear layer and vortex shedding and an aeroacoustic feedback loop.
