In this paper, a dual foot (DF)-PDR system is proposed for the fusion of integration (IA)-based PDR systems independently applied on both shoes. The horizontal positions of the two shoes estimated from each PDR system are fused based on a particle filter. The proposed method bounds the position error even if the walking time increases without an additional sensor. The distribution of particles is a non-Gaussian distribution to express the lateral error due to systematic drift. Assuming that the shoe position is the pedestrian position, the multi-modal position distribution can be fused into one using the Gaussian sum. The fused pedestrian position is used as a measurement of each particle filter so that the position error is corrected. As a result, experimental results show that position of pedestrians can be effectively estimated by using only the inertial sensors attached to both shoes.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to investigate effects of trunk position sense through visual cue deprivation balance training in subacute stroke patients. METHODS: The subjects were randomly allocated to two groups: experimental(n=10) and control(n=10). Both groups performed balance training on sitting for 30minute after measurements. Trunk position sense test was assessed using the David back concept to determine trunk repositioning error for four movement(flexion, extension, affected side lateral flexion, non-affected side lateral flexion). Measurements on each test were assessed prior to the balance training and then immediately following the balance training. RESULTS: In comparison of the difference of the trunk position sense between groups, the experimental group decreased significantly in trunk repositioning error of flexion, extension and affected side lateral flexion than control group(p<.05). CONCLUSION: The trunk position sense of the experimental group showed more improvement after the balance training program compared to the control group, Therefore, these results suggest that visual cue deprivation training is considered an effective exercise method for individuals with subacute stroke.
The purpose of this study is to verify the effect of lateral position and chest percussion on gas exchange in the decreased level of conscious patients. The Subjects for this study were 21 patients' admitted in ICU of CNUH from Dec 18th, 1989 to Aug 4th, 1990. The Data was analyzed by paired t - test. The results of this study as follows ; 1) In comparison of supine position, good -lung dependent position and good - lung dependent with chest percussion, the difference of PaO ㆍ was statistically significant (P<0.05). 2) In comparison of supine position, good -lung dependent position and good - lung dependent with chest percussion, the difference of A-a Do ㆍ was statistically significant (p<0.05). En conclusion, the use of good -lung dependent position and chest percussion was effective nursing intervention on decreased level of conscious patients in ICU.
Purpose: This study examined two trunk strategies - medio-lateral ramp and anterior-posterior ram - and their effects on pelvis and trunk movements, providing basic material for safe ramp utilization. Methods: The present study included 20 asymptomatic males recruited from a local university. Participants were asked to stand with their feet shoulder-width apart. Their dorsal side faced the camera, and measurements were performed while standing in a neutral double stance, one leg stance, $15^{\circ}$ of medial and lateral ramp, and $15^{\circ}$ of anterior and posterior ramp. Participants were allowed to practice for 3 minutes, and each participant had a 30 seconds rest between the two ramp conditions. One-way repeated measures analysis of variance was used to determine the effects the ramp conditions on spinal alignment. In all analyses, p<0.05 was used to indicate statistical significance. Results: The trunk-inclination angle on the posterior ramp was significantly lower than that of the double stance position (p<0.05). The trunk imbalance angle was significantly higher on the medial ramp, than that on the double stance position (p<0.05). The pelvic position and pelvic torsion angles were significantly higher in the medial, lateral, and anterior ramp positions than that of the double stance position (p<0.05). The pelvic rotation angles on the medial, lateral, and anterior ramps were significantly lower than that of the double stance position (p<0.05). Conclusion: These findings suggest that when people are exposed to the same form of ramp for an extended period, posture modifications may be triggered.

The purpose of this study was to observe mandibular condyle shape and position in an asymptomatic population. In order to carry out this study, 142 temporomandibular joints in 71 adults(35 males, 36 females), who were asymptomatic for temporomandibular joint disorders and had no history of prosthodontic or orthodontic treatments, were selected, and radiographed using the Accurd-200 head holder(Denar Co., U.S.A) for transcranial radiograms and the Sectography(Denar Co., U.S.A) for lateral individualized corrected tomograms. Mandibular condyles were classified morphologically and evaluated in positional relationships with articular fossae and articular eminences at centric occlusion and 1 inch mouth opening. The obtained results were as follows; 1. In the classification of mandibular condyle shape, the convex type was more prevalent in transcranial radiograms and tomograms taken at medial, central, and lateral locations. 2. In the mandibular condyle position at centric occlusion, the mandibular condyles were placed posterior to the center of articular fossae in transcranial radiograms and anterior to the center of articular fossae in tomograms taken at medial, central, and lateral locations. 3. In the mandibular condyle position in right and left TMJs at centric occlusion, the mandibular condyles were placed bilateral asymmetric relationships to the articular fossae in transcranial radiograms and tomograms taken at medial, central, and lateral locations. 4. In the mandibular condyle position at 1 inch mouth opening, the mandibular condyles were placed anterior to the articular eminences in transcranial radiograms and tomograms taken at central location and posterior to the articular eminences in tomograms taken at medial and lateral locations.

PURPOSES : The use of virtual driving tests to determine actual road driving behavior is increasing. However, the results indicate a gap between real and virtual driving under same road conditions road based on ergonomic factors, such as anxiety and speed. In the future, the use of virtual driving tests is expected to increase. For this reason, the purpose of this study is to analyze the gap between real and virtual driving on same road conditions and to use a calibration formula to allow for higher reliability of virtual driving tests. METHODS : An intelligent driving recorder was used to capture real driving. A driving simulator was used to record virtual driving. Additionally, a virtual driving map was made with the UC-Win/Road software. We gathered data including geometric structure information, driving information, driver information, and road operation information for real driving and virtual driving on the same road conditions. In this study we investigated a range of gaps, driving speeds, and lateral positions, and introduced a calibration formula to the virtual record to achieve the same record as the real driving situation by applying the effects of the main causes of discrepancy between the two (driving speed and lateral position) using a linear regression model. RESULTS: In the virtual driving test, driving speed and lateral position were determined to be higher and bigger than in the real Driving test, respectively. Additionally, the virtual driving test reduces the concentration, anxiety, and reality when compared to the real driving test. The formula includes four variables to produce the calibration: tangent driving speed, curve driving speed, tangent lateral position, and curve lateral position. However, the tangent lateral position was excluded because it was not statistically significant. CONCLUSIONS: The results of analyzing the formula from MPB (mean prediction bias), MAD (mean absolute deviation) is after applying the formula to the virtual driving test, similar to the real driving test so that the formula works. Because this study was conducted on a national, two-way road, the road speed limit was 80 km/h, and the lane width was 3.0-3.5 m. It works in the same condition road restrictively.

The method measuring the absolute position of a point diffraction source emitting a spherical wavefront in three-dimension is proposed. Two-dimensional interference of spherical wavefronts is used to overcome ambiguity of phase order. The spherical wavefront is explicated by Taylor series expansion, from which a radius of curvature of a spherical wavefront and its center position in three-dimension are obtainable. The spherical wavefront is reconstructed by a modified lateral shearing interferometer, which uses single-mode fiber as a point diffraction source.

The volumetric interferometer, which uses the interference of wavefronts emitted from two single mode fibers, measures the target position in 3-D. In this paper, we suggest a new calculation method which doesn't need a non-linear optimization and an initial guess. We find the relationship between the coefficients of the Zernike polynomials for a spherical wavefront and its center and reconstruct a spherical wavefront by using the Zernike polynomials from two interference fringes like a lateral shearing interferometer. The target position can be obtained from the coefficients of the Zernike polynomials of the reconstructed wavefront. We can get the target position in 3-D with $sub-{\mu}m$ errors in a simulation.
This study describes model tests on instrumented rectangular-shaped passive row piles embedded in horizontal sand-ground undergoing lateral soil movement. We tried to find the property of row piles dependent on the shape of pile, including the position of the pile in row, pile spacing, and soil movement. The results of test are as follows. The lateral earth pressure diagram variously appeared to be triangle, trapezoid and rectangular by shape and position of pile. The outer pile has a larger bending moment than the inner pile in the case of B-type, the inner piles has larger one than outer pile in case of H-type. $R_f$ (the ratio of resistance to lateral soil movement) was found to increase with increasing pile spacing irrespective of pile-shape. Y/L (location of action of lateral resistance force) for $d_s$ (displacement of soil) and $S_h$ (spacing of pile) appeared to be nearly regular position, and H-type is higher than B-type.
This paper describes position estimation algorithm using neural network for the navigation of the vision-based wheeled mobile robot (WMR) in a corridor with taking ceiling lamps as landmark. From images of a corridor the lamp's line on the ceiling in corridor has a specific slope to the lateral position of the WMR. The vanishing point produced by the lamp's line also has a specific position to the orientation of WMR. The ceiling lamps have a limited size and shape like a circle in image. Simple image processing algorithms are used to extract lamps from the corridor image. Then the lamp's line and vanishing point's position are defined and calculated at known position of WMR in a corridor. To estimate the lateral position and orientation of WMR from an image, the relationship between the position of WMR and the features of ceiling lamps have to be defined. But it is hard because of nonlinearity. Therefore, data set between position of WMR and features of lamps are configured. Neural network are composed and learned with data set. Back propagation algorithm(BPN) is used for learning. And it is applied in navigation of WMR in a corridor.
