In a flexible airvehicle, an assessment of the structural coupling levels through analysis and experiments provides structural data for the design of notch filters which are generally utilized in the flight control system to attenuate the flexible response pickup. This is necessitated as during flight, closed loop control actuation driven with flexible response inputs could lead to stability and performance related problems. In the present work, critical parameters influencing servoelastic response have been identified. A sensitivity study has been carried out to assess the extent of influence of each parameter. A multi-parameter tuning approach has been implemented to achieve an enhanced analytical model for improved predictions of aircraft servoelastic response. To illustrate the model updation approach, initial and improved test analysis correlation of lateral servoelastic responses for a generic flexible airvehicle are presented.

The demands for vehicle safety systems such as ABS and ESC have been increased. Accurate vehicle state estimation is required to realized the abovementioned systems and tire-friction coefficient is crucial information. Estimation of lateral tire-road friction coefficient using pneumatic trail information is mainly dealt in this paper. Pneumatic trail shows unique characteristics according to the wheel side slip angle and these property is highly sensitive to vehicle lateral motion. The proposed algorithm minimizes the use of conventional tire models such as magic formula, brushed tire model and Dugoff tire model. The pure side slip maneuver, which means no longitudinal dynamics, is assumed to achieve the ultimate goal of this paper. A simulation verification using Carsim and Simulink is performed and the results show the feasibility of the proposed algorithms.
This paper deals with the design of a yaw rate controller based on gain-scheduled H$\infty$ optimal control, which is intended to maintain the lateral stability of a vehicle. Uncertain factors such as vehicle mass and cornering stiffness in the vehicle yaw rate dynamics naturally call for the robustness of the feedback controller and thus H$\infty$ optimization technique is applied to synthesize a controller with guaranteed robust stability and performance against the model uncertainty. In the implementation stage, the feed-forward yaw moment by driver's steer input is estimated by the disturbance observer in order to determine the accurate compensatory moment. Finally, HILS results indicate that the proposed yaw rate controller can satisfactorily improve the lateral stability of an automobile.
This paper proposes a traction control system (TCS) that uses a sliding mode wheel slip controller and a PID throttle valve controller. In addition, a yaw motion controller (YMC) is also developed to improve lateral stability using a PID rear wheel steering angle controller. The dynamics of a vehicle and characteristics of the controllers are validated using a proposed full-car model. A driver model is also designed to steer the vehicle during maneuvers on a split ${\mu}$ road and double lane change maneuver. The simulation results show that the proposed full-car model is sufficient to predict vehicle responses accurately. The developed TCS provides improved acceleration performances on uniform slippery roads and split ${\mu}$ roads. When the vehicle is cornering and accelerating with the brake or engine TCS, understeer occurs. An integrated TCS eliminates these problems. The YMC with the integrated TCS improved the lateral stability and controllability of the vehicle.

The lateral vibrating motion of a railway vehicle over a certain critical speed is a well known problem in the field of train dynamics. It is known that the train equations of motion are strongly coupled and highly nonlinear with the motion and causing that it is very difficult to solve the equations simultaneously. In this paper, a 8 degree of feedom model of a railway vehicle was suggested to solve the rail vehicle lateral motion. In stead of solving the nonlinear equation simultaneously, statistical linearization technique was adopted to solve those equations. The analysis results from the statistical linearization method were directly compared with those from direct nonlinear equations and found that the linearization technique can be very effective and economical for railroad vehicle analysis. By the way, it was found that the analysis results can analytically explain the intermittent hunting phenomena which has been frequently observed in experiments.
Background: Flat feet can be identified by assessing the collapse of the medial longitudinal arch (MLA) and these conditions can trigger epidemiological changes in the feet. Many of previous studies compared the muscle activity of lower body in terms of intervention and dynamics to treat the structural defect of flat feet. However, few studies have investigated or analyzed the muscle activity of gastrocnemius muscle in the subjects with flat feet. Objects: This study investigated the differences in changes of medial and lateral plantar flexors in subjects with flat feet during bipedal heel-rise (BHR) task and analyzed the differences in muscle activity between two groups by measuring the electromyography (EMG) of abductor hallucis (AH), tibialis anterior (TA), medial gastrocnemius (MG), lateral gastrocnemius (LG). Methods: A total of Twenty one adult females participated in this experiment. Subjects were assigned to groups according to the navicular drop test. The task was applied to the leg, where the heel lifting action prevailed. The muscle activity of the medial and lateral feet plantar flexors was evaluated, and the % maximum voluntary isometric contractions (%MVIC) of these were compared. Results: For the difference between groups the muscle activity (%MVIC) of LG muscle was statistically significantly low in flat feet group compared to healthy feet group (flat feet: 64.57, healthy feet: 90.17; p < 0.05). Conclusion: The results of this study will contribute to identifying the muscle activities of medial and lateral feet plantar flexors among subjects with flat feet, which can cause abnormal epidemiological changes in the feet.

Lateral thrust jet has better maneuverability performance than the control surface like the conventional fin for attitude control or orbital transition of guided weapons. However, in the supersonic region, a jet interaction flow occurs due to the lateral thrust jet during flight, and a complicated flow structure is exhibited by the interaction of the shock wave, boundary layer flow, and the vortex flow. Especially, hit-to-kill interceptors require precise control and maneuvering, so it is necessary to analyze the effect of jet interaction flow. Conventional jet interaction analyses were performed under low altitude conditions, but there are not many cases in the case of medium altitude condition, which has different flow characteristics. In this study, jet interaction flow analysis is performed on the lateral jet controlled interceptor operating at medium altitude. Based on the results, the structural characteristics of the flow field and the changes of aerodynamic coefficient are analyzed.
Atmospheric Re-Entry guidance is divided as longitudinal and lateral. This paper proposes a longitudinal reference trajectory and control law using the inverse dynamics method with pseudospectral Legendre method. Application of this method into Re-Entry problem forces a power of calculation time-reduction due to unnecessary of integration or any iteration as well as sufficient accuracy convergence. The used guidance scheme is time-to-go.
This paper concerns dynamics of a wheel-axle set on a tangent track which was already published in a book titled "Dynamics of Railway Vehicle Systems" authored by Garg and Dukkipati [1], pointing out several missing terms and erroneous parts in the derived expressions on the conventional governing equations of motion. It is indicated that the x-direction components of normal forces at left and right wheel-rail contact points in the equilibrium axis were missed. Another point is that in deriving the creepages the disturbed velocity components in both x and y directions in the equilibrium axis should not be disregarded in the first term of the numerators. When considering the creepage in the y direction in the body coordinate system, the second term of lateral velocity at the contact point also cannot be neglected. Besides, the hyper-assumptions in the final expressions of vertical components of normal forces at left and right wheel-rail contact points have been recovered in reaching the final stage of analytical model development. Finally it is noteworthy that the process of applying creep theory is deemed to contain a little bit inconsistencies and ambiguities to be clear.

The objective of the Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) system is to maintain vehicle stability under critical lateral motions, It has a good potential of becoming one of the chassis control necessities since the system can be realized with little additional cost on top of the ABS/TCS system, Developed in this research is a hardware-in-the-loop simulator for VDC with a valve control system that modulates the brake pressures at four wheels: Two VDC control logics, a simple control logic and an LQR control logic, have been developed and incorporated in the HILS system. Their performance under various driving conditions was tested in the HILS system and the results are presented.
