Dilatation characteristics of the coals with outburst proneness under cyclic loading conditions and the relevant applications

  • By conducting uniaxial loading cycle tests on the coal rock with outburst proneness, the dilatation characteristics at different loading rates were investigated. Under uniaxial loading and unloading, the lateral deformation of coal rock increased obviously before failure, leading to coal dilatation. Moreover, the post-unloading recovery of the lateral deformation was rather small, suggesting the onset of an accelerated failure. As the loading rate increased further, the ratio of the stress at the dilatation critical point to peak-intensity increased gradually, and the pre-peak volumetric deformation decreased with more severe post-peak damage. Based on the laboratory test results, the lateral deformation of the coals at different depths in the #1302 isolated coal pillars, Yangcheng Coal Mine, was monitored using wall rock displacement meter. The field monitoring result indicates that the coal lateral displacement went through various distinct stages: the lateral displacement of the coals at the depth of 2-6 m went through an "initial increase-stabilize-step up-plateau" series. When the coal wall of the working face was 24-18 m away from the measuring point, the coals in this region entered the accelerated failure stage; as the working face continued advancing, the lateral displacement of the coals at the depth over 6 m increased steadily, i.e., the coals in this region were in the stable failure stage.

Mechanical Properties of Different Anatomical Sites of the Bone-Tendon Origin of Lateral Epicondyle

  • A series of rabbit common extensor tendon specimens of the humeral epicondyle were subjected to tensile tests under two displacement rates (100mm/min and 10mm/min) and different elbow flexion positions 45°, 90°and 135°. Biomechanical properties of ultimate tensile strength, failure strain, energy absorption and stiffness of the bone-tendon specimen were determined. Statistically significant differences were found in ultimate tensile strength, failure strain, energy absorption and stiffness of bone-tendon specimens as a consequence of different elbow flexion angles and displacement rates. The results indicated that the bone-tendon specimens at the 45°elbow flexion had the lowest ultimate tensile strength; this flexion angle also had the highest failure strain and the lowest stiffness compared to other elbow flexion positions. In comparing the data from two displacement rates, bone-tendon specimens had lower ultimate tensile strength at all flexion angles when tested at the 10mm/min displacement rate. These results indicate that creep damage occurred during the slow displacement rate. The major failure mode of bone-tendon specimens during tensile testing changed from 100% of midsubstance failure at the 90°and 135°elbow flexion to 40% of bone-tendon origin failure at 45°. We conclude that failure mechanics of the bone-tendon unit of the lateral epicondyle are substantially affected by loading direction and displacement rate.

붕괴 사례를 통한 앵커지지 가설흙막이벽체의 수평변위속도에 의한 안전관리 연구 (A Study for Safety Management on the Basis of Lateral Displacement Rates of Anchored In-situ Walls by Collapse Case Histories)

  • 연구목적: 본 연구는 국내 도심지 굴착시 흔히 마주치는 암반을 포함한 다층토 지반에서 앵커지지 흙막이 구조물의 합리적인 안전관리방법에 대해 서술하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 연구방법: 흙막이 굴착공사의 붕괴사례 현장으로부터 수집한 현장 계측자료를 바탕으로 깊은 굴착시 앵커지지 흙막이벽체의 수평변위속도 관점에서 흙막이 구조물의 안전관리방법에 대해 접근하였다. 연구결과: 붕괴구간의 흙막이벽체 평균 최대수평변위속도는 굴토완료 이후에 뚜렷하게 증가하는 추세를 보였다. 특히, 암반 불연속면을 따라 발생하는 슬라이딩에 의한 흙막이 구조물 붕괴는 비교적 짧은 시간에 상당히 큰 변위속도를 나타냈다. 결론: 본 연구를 통해 굴착공사중 흙막이 구조물 붕괴 사고를 사전에 예측하고 예방하기 위해 국내 현장에서 일반적으로 적용되어온 수평변위에 의한 정량적인 관리기준보다는 수평 변위속도에 의한 안전관리기준의 활용은 흙막이 굴착공사의 안전성을 판단하는데 훨씬 합리적인 것으로 나타났다.

Radiologic Evaluation of Proper Pedicle Screw Placement after Pedicle Screw Fixation in Degenerative Lumbar Disc Disease

  • Objective : With the increasing popularity of pedicle screw fixation devices for several indications, the safety and reliability of screw insertion in the small pedicle has become a major issue. Many studies have investigated the accuracy of screw placement after pedicle screw fixation using various method. The reported displacement rates have been very different. The purpose of the study is to investigate the proper placement of pedicle screw insertion in the lumbar spine on 26 consecutive patients. Methods : Between September and December 2003, 26 consecutive patients [16women and 10men] were analyzed after transpedicular screw fixation of the lumbar and lumbosacral spine. After pedicle screw fixation in this study, 2-mm slices of CT scan were performed in all patients to detect caudal and cranial deviation of screw and medial and lateral deviation. Pedcile screw placement related complication was evaluated clinically. Results : A total of 144 inserted pedicle were analyzed in 26patients, and 58pedicle screws [40.3%] were detected to be improper placement. There were 14level [9.0%] of caudal or cranial deviation and 44level [30.6%] of medial or lateral deviation to the pedicle. Extra-pedicle placement was found on 4levels [2.7%] with only lease of neurologic injury. Conclusion : Proper screw placement, though complication rate is low, is important not only for clinical symptom but also for biomechanics. Further study for screw placement related biomechanical changes is needed.

임의의 경계조건을 갖는 철근 콘크리트 사판의 해석 (An Analysis of the R/C Skew-Plates With Arbitrary Boundary Conditions)

  • This study was carried out to investigate mechanical characteristics of the uniformly loaded skew-plate at 4 kinds of boundary condition : i) all edges are clamped (BC-1) , ii) all edges are simply supported (BC- 2), iii) two opposite edges are clamped and the other two edges are free (BC-3), and iv )two opposite edges are simply supported and the other two edges are free (BC-4). Various skew angles, 0$^{\circ}$, 10$^{\circ}$, 15$^{\circ}$, 30$^{\circ}$, 40: 45: and 60, of the plate were tested for the above boundary conditions. Resutts obtained from the study are summarized as follows ; 1.The lateral displacement at the center of a skew- plate was decreased as the skewangle increased at all of the boundary conditions. The decrements of the conditions of BC-3 and BC-4 were considerable. And, difference of the displacement between the boundary conditions was decreased as the skew-angle was increased. 2. X-moments (to the Y-axis) at the center of a skew- plate and the minimum principal moments were shown as a similar pattern of change with respect to the skew-angle variation between BC-i and BC-2 and between BC-3 and BC-4, and the pattern of change at the conditions of BC-3 and BC-4 were shown higher rates than those for the conditions of BC-i and BC-2 3.Y-moments (to the X- axis) at the center of a skew-plate and the maximum principal moment were decreased as the skew-angle increased in a similar pattern at all of the boundary conditions. 4.X-moments at the obtuse angle side of a skew-plate were shown as a parabolic pattern of change (frist increased after then decreased) as the skew-angle increased, and a skew-angle resulting the maximum absolute moment was depended on the boundary conditions. 5.Y-moments at the obtuse angle side of a skew-plate were affected by the skewangle much more at the boundary condtions of BC-2 and BC-4 than at the conditions of BC-i and BC-3. 6.Maximum principal moments at the obtuse angle side of a skew-plate at the skew angle of 40$^{\circ}$- 45$^{\circ}$ were resulted almost the same value at all of the boundary conditions .

Effect of antibodies binding to Y chromosome-bearing sperm conjugated with magnetic nanoparticles on bull sperm characteristics

  • The immunological sperm separation method is economical compared to the existing sorting method, and it is promising for the development of new technologies by reducing sperm damage. Wholemom (WM) is a sex-regulating protein that comprises on immunoglobulin G coupled with magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) that responds to surface proteins derived from the Y chromosome in cattle. Y sperms are restricted in motility as the WM aggregates them, and the magnet could separate the non-aggregated cells. This study was conducted to investigate the effect of WM treatment on the characteristics of bull sperm. After treating sperm with WM and incubation for 6 h, the motility parameters including total motility, progressive motility, velocity average path, velocity straight line, amplitude of lateral head displacement, and linearity were significantly higher in the WM treatment group than in the control group (p < 0.05). Sperm viability and acrosome reaction rates were similar in both groups during each incubation period (p > 0.05). In conclusion, the immunological sperm sexing procedure using a monoclonal antibody conjugated with MNPs did not affect the characteristics of bull sperm. This study suggests that compared to other techniques, the immunological method for sperm sexing could classify sperm quickly and efficiently without the use of expensive equipment.

자유 진동 실험을 통한 VRS-RTK 기법을 이용한 골조 구조물의 모니터링 적용성 검토 (Verification on the Application of Monitoring for Frame Structures Using the VRS-RTK Method through the Free Vibration Test)

  • 건물의 풍진동을 모니터링 하기 위해, 두 개 (이동국과 기준국)의 global positioning system (GPS)에 기반한 종래의 real-time kinematic (RTK) 기법이 널리 적용되고 있다. 그러나 이는 기준국을 위한 공간을 확보하거나 유지 관리하는데 어려움을 겪을 수 있다. 한편, 최근에 하나의 이동국 만을 이용하여 구조물의 움직임을 계측할 수 있는 새로운 virtual reference station (VRS)-RTK 기법이 개발되었으며, 측량 분야에서 널리 사용되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 골조 구조물의 횡방향 구조 응답을 모니터링하기 위한 VRS-RTK 기법의 적용성을 평가하기 위해 단층 골조 모형 (1차 고유진동수 : 1 Hz)과 3층 골조 모형 (1차 고유진동수 : 0.85 Hz)의 자유진동 실험을 수행하였다. GPS에 의해 계측된 변위 및 가속도 응답의 신뢰성을 평가하기 위해, 레이져 변위계와 가속도계가 설치되었으며, 이들로부터 얻은 계측값을 GPS의 계측값과 비교하였다. 또한, 건물의 지속적인 모니터링을 위한 적절한 계측 샘플링 수를 파악하기 위해, 변위 응답에서의 오차가 각기 다른 GPS 샘플링 수 (5, 10, 20 Hz)에서 평가되었다. 실험 결과, GPS으로부터 얻은 변위 및 가속도 응답은 레이져 변위계와 가속계로부터 얻은 응답과 좋은 유사 관계를 가지는 것을 확인하였다. 그리고, GPS 샘플링 수가 증가할수록 변위 오차는 감소하였으며, 3층 실험체에 대해서는 20 Hz의 GPS 샘플링 수로 구조물의 전 모드 성분 (1, 2, 3차 모드)을 검출할 수 있었다.

소아에서 도플러 조직영상을 이용한 최대 심근 속도의 계측 : 정상 추정치 및 성장 및 심박동수에 따른 변화 (Quantitative Assessment of Myocardial Tissue Velocity in Normal Children with Doppler Tissue Imaging : Reference Values, Growth and Heart Rate Related Change)

  • 목 적 : 최근 심장 기능 평가에 많이 사용되는 TDI 지표들에 대해서 우리나라의 정상 소아에 대한 연구가 아직 미흡한 실정이다. 이에 정상 소아 72례(남아 : 42례, 여아 : 30례)를 대상으로 한 TDI 및 31례를 대상으로 한 M-형 심초음파 검사를 이용한 지표들에 대한 계측치를 확인하고, 이러한 계측치에 여러 변수들(몸무게, 심박동수, 측정한 위치 등)이 미치는 영향에 대해서 관찰하였다. 방 법 : 선천성 심질환이나 심장에 영향을 미칠 수 있는 질환이 없는 건강한 소아를 대상으로 하여, 심첨 4방도, 심첨 2방도의 여러 부위에서 PW-TDI를 이용하여 최대 심근 속도를 측정하고, 측정 부위에 따른 계측치의 차이, 나이, 몸무게 및 심박동수 등이 이러한 측정치들에 미치는 영향에 대해서 연구하였다. 또한 심첨 4방도에서 각각의 판막륜 방향으로 M-형 심초음파 검사를 시행하여 나이, 몸무게 및 심박동수와 연관 관계가 있는지 알아보았다. 또한 M-형 심초음파 검사에서 측정한 값들과 TDI 계측치들과의 관계에 대해서도 연구하였다. 결 과 : TDI로 측정한 여러 변수들은 남녀, 심초음파 기기간 및 검사를 시행한 의사간에는 의미있는 차이를 보이지 않았다. 판막륜과 판막륜 및 심첨의 중간 부위에서 측정한 값간에는 판막륜에서 측정한 값들이 의미있게 높게 측정되었으며, 우심실 측벽의 측정치가 심실 중격 및 좌심실 부위에서 측정한 값보다 높았다. 심근 단축률과 TDI 측정치간에는 상관 관계를 보이지 않았다. 심박동수와의 상관 관계를 보면 S-및 E-파형의 경우 심박동수와 상관 관계가 없었으나, A-파형 및 A/E 비는 심박동수와 양의 상관 관계를 보였다. 몸무게와의 상관 관계도 측정한 부위 및 계측치 들마다 일정한 상관 관계를 보여 주지는 못하였다. M-형 심초음파 검사로 측정한 판막륜의 움직임은 성별간에 유의한 차이를 보이지 않았으며, ALD는 몸무게와 양의 상관 관계를, 이동률은 음의 상관 관계를 보이는 경향이 있었다. 그러나 이동률과 TDI 계측치들 간에는 유의한 상관 관계를 발견할 수 없었다. 결 론 : 정상 소아들에서 TDI를 이용하여 최대 심근 속도를 측정하고, 또한 M-형 심초음파 검사를 이용한 판막륜의 움직임을 관찰해 보았다. 이러한 계측치들을 토대로 좀더 많은 례를 통한 한국 소아들의 TDI 및 M-형 심초음파 검사를 이용한 판막륜의 움직임에 대한 정상치를 확립하여야 하겠으며, 선천성 및 후천성 심질환을 가진 환아들에서의 임상 적용을 기대해 본다.

Experimental and numerical investigation on flexural response of reinforced rubberized concrete beams using waste tire rubber

  • The impacts of waste tire rubber (WTR) on the bending conduct of reinforced concrete beams (RCBs) are investigated in visualization of experimental tests and 3D finite element model (FEM) using both ANSYS and SAP2000. Several WTR rates are used in total 4 various full scale RCBs to observe the impact of WTR rate on the rupture and bending conduct of RCBs. For this purpose, the volumetric ratios (Vf) of WTR were chosen to change to 0%, 2.5%, 5% and 7.5% in the whole concrete. In relation to experimental test consequences, bending and rupture behaviors of the RCBs are observed. The best performance among the beams was observed in the beams with 2.5% WTR. Furthermore, as stated by test consequences, it is noticed that while WTR rate in the RCBs is improved, max. bending in the RCBs rises. For test consequences, it is clearly recognized as WTR rate in the RCB mixture is improved from 0% to 2.5%, deformation value in the RCB remarkably rises from 3.89 cm to 7.69 cm. This consequence is markedly recognized that WTR rates have a favorable result on deformation values in the RCBs. Furthermore, experimental tests are compared to 3D FEM consequences via using ANSYS software. In the ANSYS, special element types are formed and nonlinear multilinear misses plasticity material model and bilinear misses plasticity material model are chosen for concrete and compression and tension elements. As a consequence, it is noticed that each WTR rates in the RCBs mixture have dissimilar bending and rupture impacts on the RCBs. Then, to observe the impacts of WTR rate on the constructions under near-fault ground motions, a reinforced-concrete building was modelled via using SAP2000 software using 3-D model of the construction to complete nonlinear static analysis. Beam, column, steel haunch elements are modeled as nonlinear frame elements. Consequently, the seismic impacts of WTR rate on the lateral motions of each floor are obviously investigated particularly. Considering reduction in weight of structure and capacity of the members with using waste tire rubber, 2.5% of WTR resulted in the best performance while the construction is subjected to near fault earthquakes. Moreover, it is noticeably recognized that WTR rate has opposing influences on the seismic displacement behavior of the RC constructions.

Effect of Optixcell and Triladyl extenders on frozen-thawed sperm motilities and calving rates following artificial insemination in Hanwoo

  • In this study, we examined the effect of a liposome-based extender (Optixcell) and a tris-citric egg-yolk extender (Triladyl) on the frozen-thawed spermatozoa characteristics and the calving rate. The percentages for the total motility of the frozen-thawed spermatozoa were similar in the Optixcell and Triladyl groups. However, among the motile spermatozoa with a straight line velocity (VSL) ${\geq}25{\mu}m/sec$, the curvilinear velocity (VCL, ${\mu}m/sec$), VSL (${\mu}m/sec$), average path velocity (VAP, ${\mu}m/sec$), amplitude of lateral head displacement (ALH, ${\mu}m$), beat cross frequency (BCF, Hz), and plasma membrane integrity of the frozen-thawed spermatozoa for the Optixcell group were significantly higher than those for the Triladyl group. Furthermore, the calving rate in the Optixcell group (79.0%) was higher than that of the Triladyl group (62.8%). However, the acrosomal membrane integrity of the frozen-thawed spermatozoa in the Optixcell and Triladyl groups was not significantly different. These results indicate that semen freezing with Optixcell improved the motility and plasma membrane integrity of frozen-thawed spermatozoa and the calving rate of Hanwoo cows (native Korean cattle). In conclusion, our results suggest that semen freezing with the liposome-based extender Optixcell is more efficient than with the tris-citric egg-yolk extender Triladyl for improved offspring production.
