The study on Musa basjoo planting in traditional gardens in of folk villages and traditional temples was conducted to identify the phenomenon of Musa basjoo planting which frequently appears in paintings and literatures of the late Joseon dynasty and how the cultural custom is being handed down. The result of the study is as follows. As a result of studying state-designated folk villages 6 sites, the custom is being handed down in a few limited gardens including Asan Oeam Village and Seongju Hangae Village. In case of Oeam Village, there are three gardens where Musa basjoo was planted including Seolimbang, Vice Minister's Residence, and Geonjae House where Musa basjoo withered now. In case of Hangae Village, it was found in Bukbi House, Hahoe Residence and Gyoridaek Jinsa's Residence and most of them were planted in front of guesthouses and main building with the assemble-planting method. Musa basjoo planting was confirmed in 39 traditional temples and it was found that Yangsan Tongdosa Temple and attached hermitage Geukrakam are currently prevalent in Musa basjoo planting. Musa basjoo was planted on either side of the stairs of Buddhist sanctums for Buddha and Avalokitesvara Guan Yin of main temples and gwaneum temples with the assemble-planting method and it has a tendency of pair planting. Considering that Musa basjoo is a southern plant, most of Musa basjoo planting was distributed around Jeollanam-do and Gyeongsangnam-do, which is closely related to the isotherm distribution of the Korean Peninsula. Especially, it was found that planting flora was centered on $12^{\circ}C$ of Warmth Index $100^{\circ}$ and annual average temperature.
This experiment was carried out to determine the optimum planting density for rice pot seedling cultivation in wheat-rice double cropping system in Honam plain area. A mid-late maturing rice variety 'Chinnong' was raised in pot seedling tray and conventional tray for 30 days, and then transplanted on June 25 in 2012 and 2013. Four different planting densities (15.2, 18.9, 21.6, and 25.3 hills per $m^2$) in pot seedlings were applied as treatment. Conventional tray seedling was implicated as control at a single planting density of 27.8 hills per $m^2$. In this experiment, the number of effective tillers was increased as planting density increasing, but stem diameter was decreased. Pot seedling showed higher stem diameter and effective tillers than the control. Heading dates of pot seedling plots were not significantly different between the planting densities but 2 days faster than the control. Culm length, number of panicles, panicle length, and ripening grain ratio were higher in pot seedling compared to the control, but 1000-grain weight showed no significant difference. Milled rice yields in pot seedlings ranged from 5.19 to $5.43\;t\;ha^{-1}$, and the highest yield was observed in 21.6 hills per $m^2$. Head rice ratios in pot seedlings and the controls were not significantly different. Above results on planting density of rice pot seedling cultivation would be applicable to wheat-rice double cropping and also to late transplanting cultivation of rice single cropping.
Fresh edible sweet corns demand relatively short period to harvest fresh ears, which can allow farmers to make a choice sweet corns for various cropping systems. For this reason, we were to find the optimum planting date of late-planted sweet corns to sell fresh ears in the autumn linked to cropping system with winter crops, investigating yield and properties of marketable fresh ears and growth traits of sweet corns (cv. 'Godangok' and cv. 'Guseulok') depending on planting dates such as 10 July, 20 July, and 30 July in Suwon 2012 and 2013, respectively. The 20 July-planted sweet corns showed the most fresh ear yield. However, the 10 July-planted and the 30 July-planted had 32% less yield caused by consecutive rainfall from 10 July through 20 July, and 15% less yield due to low air temperature during ripening than the 20 July-planted, respectively. The 10 and 20 July-planted sweet corns had average 140g of a fresh ear weight and 15% heavier ear than the 30 July-planted. For the July-planted sweet corns, silking days after planting ($r=-0.80^{**}$), and harvesting days after silking ($r=-0.97^{**}$) and planting ($r=-0.91^{**}$) were highly negatively correlated with daily mean air temperature during the period, resulting in it takes 1,100 growing degree days (GDD) to harvest fresh ears from the July-planted sweet corns. The fresh ears of the 20 July-planted sweet corns are able to be harvested by early October. Therefore it will be a good choice for the cropping system based on winter vegetable cash crops such as temperate garlic and onion with medium or late maturity. Among three planting dates 20 July-planted sweet corns had the best field performance in every year considering fresh ear yield, ear size, and stability to grow.
Pearl millet (Pennisetum americanum (L.) Leeke) has been detected as an excellent and new forage crop in Korea. Thus the objective of the study was to determine optimum planting season, growing degree days and productivity by shifting the planting season of pearl millet. Days to emergence of Australia pearl millet inbred line were shortened from 12 days to 3 days by delaying planting season from April 15 to July 15 in Suwon, 1986, but their growing degree days remained relatively constant 32.1$^{\circ}C$ in average. Days to heading also were shortened from 96 days to 54 days by shifting the planting season, but their growing degree days varied little being 697$^{\circ}C$ in average. For grain crop, economic planting season was from early May to late June, and their harvest index also did not varied much, but suddenly reduced in the July 15 planting plot. For forage crop, economic planting season was from mid-May to mid-June with optimum planting time of mid-May. Particularly, when planted in early July, 1987 and 1988, green fodder yields of Suwon 1 pearl millet hybrid were very low being 54 percent as compared with optimum planting season's yield 10.8t/10a.

This experiment was conducted to investigate the changes of growth and maturity and to clarify the function of supernodulating characters, excessive nodules and high biological nitrogen fixation rate (BNF), on maturity in response to different planting time in supernodulating soybean mutants. Two supernodulating soybean mutants, Sakukei4 and SS2-2, and their parent cultivars, Enrei and Shinpaldalkong2, were planted on May 24 and June 15, 2004. The degrees of the shortening of growth days by the planting time delay were 18 to 22 days in four cultivar, and there were no significant differences among the cultivars. However, four cultivars showed the different maturity properties. Sakukei4, mutated from Enrei, showed later maturity than that of Enrei, and 882-2, mutated from Shinpaldalkong2, showed earlier maturity than that of Shinpaldalkong2. The plant and nodule dry weights at R6 stage of Sakukei4 showed the smallest decrement and those of SS2-2 was showed the largest decrement by the delay of planting time. The photosynthetic rates of Sakukei4 during the late reproductive growth period were slowly decreased, however those of SS2-2 were steeply decreased in two planting time treatments. Overall, the growth of Sakukei4 was decreased slowly, however the growth of SS2-2 was decreased sharply according to the delay of planting time. The percentage of seed yield of Sakukei4 in June planting plot compared with May planting plot at R8 stage was $92\%$, which was the lowest decreasing rate of yield among the cultivars, and in the case of SS2-2, it was in $76\%$, the highest one. These results indicated that the responses of supernodulating mutants by the delay of planting time were very similar to the wild types. This means supernodulating characters in supernodulating soybean mutants might not affect to the maturity property. Additionally, the maturity property could be considered as an important characteristics to decide or to select on the developments of supernodulating soybean mutants, which have a low productivity by an excessive nodules, especially.
This study was conducted to investigate the change of yield and quality according to seeding time and planting density and to determine effective weed control method in wet-hill-seeding use black colored rice. The most effective weed control system was application of bromobutide thiobencarb five days before seeding followed by bensulfuron mefenacet thiobencarb 12 days after seeding (barnyardgrass at 2.5-3.0 leaf stage). The seedling stand by seeding time and planting density increased with the delay seeding time and high planting density. The heading dates were delayed as the seeding time became late but no difference was found between planting density. The anthocyanin content of black colored rice was higher at late seeding time and lower planting density. The yield of full colored rice was high 80 plants per $3.3m^2$ in seeding on May 30 and June 10. This information could be useful for spreading rice direct seeding by inducing stabilization of wet-hill-seeding use black colored rice.
Early maturing hybrids(Comet 80, Comet 85 and Linda) and mid-late maturing hybrid (Suwon 19) were grown at Suwon to study the influence of maturity, plant population, and sowing date (45, 55, and 65 days delayed from the recommended sowing date of Suwon 19) on the dry matter yields, percentage ears and TDN yields. Com was planted at the density of 60 x 20, 50 x 20 and 40 x 20 em. Dry matter yields were not significantly different between the early and mid-late maturing hybrids in the delayed sowing time, but significantly higher in 20 x 50cm of planting density in early maturing hybrids. As sowing was delayed to Jun. 22 ear content decreased from 40.3% (early maturing hybrid) to 6.7% (Suwon 19). This resulted in significantly 24.1% higher TDN yield in Comet 85 than in Suwon 19.
This study was conducted to compare the changes of isoflavone content grown at different planting dates and to determine a relationship between growing periods and isoflavone content, in soybean. A total fifty six soybean varieties, including summer type soybean, Chinese varieties and domestic soybean varieties, were used this experiment. Mean total isoflavone content of domestic soybean varieties was higher than summer type soybean varieties and Chinese varieties. And, the soybean isoflavone content was significantly increased in growth at late planting dates. Soybean isoflavone contents was increased with longer reproductive growth period. While, the relationship between seed weight and isoflavone content showed significantly negative correlation coefficient, -0.57 at Apr. 15, -0.51 at May 15, and -0.38 at Jun. 15, respectively planting dates.
This study was conducted to determine the optimum planting dates and density of one year old Bupleurum falcatum L. to improve its productivity and quality. Two cultivars of B. falcatum, originated from Jeongseon, Korea and Mishima, Japan were used. Some of the results obtained are as follows : Jeongseon cultivar showed less stem branches and shoot weight compared to Mishima. However, Jeongseon cultivar showed tall plant height, high root fresh and dry weight, and high levels of saikosaponin, but low saikosaponin content than that of Mishima. Both cultivars seeded on March 20 had long main root, big stem diameter, few stem branch, and high saikosaponin c content compared to those of late seeded one, April 30. Growth characteristics such as plant height, stem diameter, stem branch number, shoot weight, root diameter, root fresh and dry weight, and root branch number were increased in a low planting $density(30\;{\times}\;15cm)$, but the content of saikosaponin was not affected by planting density. Jeongseon and Mishima cultivars seeded on April 10 with $30\;{\times}\;15cm$ planting density and April 30 with $30\;{\times}\;10cm$ planting density contained the highest total saikosaponin levels, respectively. However, average root dry weight were not affected by planting time or density in both Bupleurum cultivars.
To obtain information on the characters of local and introduced varieties of sunflower, 492 varieties were planted on May 1. and June 15, 1974. Results observed were as flowers; 1) In flowering date, local varieties showed no significant difference between planting date, however introduced varieties were late in the delayed planting date. 2) Local varieties were more sensitive at the response of day length effect than introduced ones. 3) Introduced varieties were recommandable than local in growing them after barley harvest. But local varieties were stable in transplanting.
