중년남성의 초기회상과 생활양식에 관한 현상학 연구 (The Phenomenological Study on the early recollection and lifestyle of middle-aged men)

  • 연구 참여자는 40대 후반 3명의 참여자를 선정하여 90분씩 총 6회기 프로그램과 심층 인터뷰를 진행하여 현상학적 Giorgi 연구방법으로 자료를 수집하고 분석하였다. 연구결과에 따른 결론은 다음과 같이 도출되었다. 첫째, 초기 회상에서 발견된 수치, 두려움, 자책, 폭력 상황, 수동적인 태도, 적응해야 했던 어린 시절 모습 등은 40대 후반 안정된 삶을 유지하는 듯 보이나 현재의 삶 가운데 여전히 나타나고 있었다. 자기개념에 대한 긍정적 만족함보다는 낮은 자기 충족감을 보이며 이상적 자아상을 추구하고 있는 것으로 도출되었다. 둘째, 생활양식은 어린 시절 폭력적인 가정, 애착 대상의 상실, 과잉보호, 어려운 경제 상황, 부모의 심한 다툼으로 인한 불안정한 어린 시절을 겪으며 심한 우울감과 무기력과 허무함의 시간이 있었다. 40대 후반 가정을 이루고 종교 생활을 하면서 안정을 찾아가고 있으며 가정에 대한 책임감을 소중하게 여기는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 이는 어떤 경험에 의미를 부여하고 인식하는 생활양식은 자신이 경험한 어린 시절에 어떤 의미를 부여하는지를 보여준다. 중년남성의 사회적 심리적 변화를 동반하는 생활양식을 그들 자신이 경험한 초기회상을 탐색하고 해석하여 부적응적 의미와 목표를 발견하고 100세 시대 제2의 인생을 준비하는 중년기 삶에 변화와 성장의 통찰을 제공하는 데 의의를 둔다.

중노년기 미국성인들의 심리적 복지감: 전생애 발달과정의 부모자녀관계와 생산감 발달의 영향 (Psychological Well-being in Mid to Late Adulthood of American: Parent-child Relationship across the Lifespan and Generativity Development)

  • 본 연구는 18세 이상의 자녀를 둔 1,882명의 부모들을 대상으로 전생애과정의 부모자녀관계와 성인기의 발달, 그리고 중노년기 심리적 복지감 간의 관계를 이해하기 위해 심리사회 발달적 관점과 생애과정 발달적 관점을 적용하여 연구를 진행하였다. 구체적으로 회상된 성인기 이전 부모자녀관계가 성인기 부모자녀관계와 생산감 발달에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지를 알아보고, 이러한 성인기 전후의 경험들이 중노년기 심리적 복지감에 어떠한 역할을 하는지를 밝히는데 목적을 두었다. 연구결과는 성인기 이전에 부모로부터 호의적인 양육을 받았다고 회상할수록 성인기에 더 긍정적인 부모자녀관계를 갖고, 생산감도 더 많이 발달되며, 중노년기의 심리적 복지감도 더 높은 것으로 나타났다. 또한 성인기 부모자녀관계가 긍정적일수록 생산감이 많이 발달하였고 심리적 복지감도 높았다. 마지막으로, 생산감이 높을수록 심리적 복지감도 증진하는 것으로 나타났다. 성인기 이전에 부모로부터 받았다고 회상하는 양육방식이 중년기 이후 심리적 복지감에 미치는 영향은 성인기 부모자녀관계와 생산감 발달에 의해 부분적으로 매개되었다. 따라서 성인기 이전의 부모로부터 호의적인 양육을 받지 못했어도 성인기에 긍정적인 부모자녀관계를 형성하거나 높은 생산감을 발전시킨 경우는 높은 심리적 복지감을 형성한다는 것이다. 이러한 연구결과들은 성인기 이전 경험들이 지속적으로 성인기 심리적 복지감에 영향을 주며 그 영향력이 현재의 가족관계에 영향을 미치지만, 이는 성인기 경험들에 의해 변할 수도 있다는 사실을 시사한다.

  • 저자들은 반복적이며 간헐적인 기면, 정신착란과 운동실조를 주소로 내원한 6세 여아에서, 고암모니아혈증과 혈장 glutamine, 요 orotic acid의 증가를 보여 지발형 OTC 결핍증으로 진단하고, 분자유전학적 검사상 exon 6에서 221번째 아미노산 lysine에 해당하는 염기 AAG가 AAT(asparagine)로 치환된 돌연변이를 이형접합자(heterozygote)로 보인하였던 1례를 경험하였기에 보고하는 바이다.

아동이 지각한 어머니의 양육행동, 또래와의 관계 및 교사와의 관계가 학령 후기 아동의 주관적 안녕감에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Maternal Parenting Behavior, Relationships with Friends, and Relationships with Teachers on the Subjective Well-being of Children in Late Childhood)

  • This study examined the effects of maternal parenting behavior, relationships with friends, and relationships with teachers on the subjective well-being of children in late childhood. A total of 299 fifth and sixth grade students at elementary school (141 boys and 158 girls) participated in this study. The subjects completed questionnaires on maternal parenting behavior, relationships with friends, relationships with teachers, and their subjective well-being. The data were analyzed by means of Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The results are as follows. First, maternal parenting behavior was found to have a direct effect on children's subjective well-being. Second, maternal parenting behavior was seen to have an indirect effect on children's subjective well-being through their relationships with friends. Third, maternal parenting behavior was found to have an indirect effect on children's subjective well-being through their relationships with their teachers. The findings from this study suggest that relationships factors established in both family and school need to be considered together in order to explain children's subjective well-being. In addition, this study emphasizes the relative importance of maternal parenting behavior in improving the subjective well-being of school-aged children, as compared to the relationships with both their friends and their teachers at school.

학령기 후기 아동의 암 예방 생활습관 지식, 실천의지, 실천 (Relationship of Knowledge and Practical Will to Practice of Cancer Prevention Lifestyle by Late School-aged Children)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to identify late school-aged children‘s knowledge, and practical will in the practice of cancer prevention lifestyle, and to examine the relations between these variables and factors that influence practice. Methods: The participants included 525 fifth and sixth grade students from 8 elementary schools in J and S cities. Data were collected in December 2008 using self-report questionnaires developed by the authors and were analyzed using the SPSS program. Results: Mean scores were, for knowledge of cancer prevention lifestyle, $0.76{\pm}0.11$ out of a possible 1, practical will, $4.05{\pm}0.55$ out of a possible 5, and practice, $3.66{\pm}0.41$ also out of 5. There were differences in knowledge (F=4.39, p=.013), practical will (F=18.35, p<.001), and practice (F=29.13, p<.001) according to academic achievement and in practical will (F=3.68, p<.001) and practice (F=3.01, p=.003) according to grade. There were positive correlations between knowledge and practical will (r=.205, p<.001), knowledge and practice (r=.181, p<.001), practical will and practice (r=.628, p<.001). Practice will and knowledge of cancer prevention lifestyle showed a significant influence on practice. Conclusion: Results of this study indicate that effective strategies should be developed to motivate the practical will for the practice of cancer prevention lifestyle during childhood.

아동의 기질 및 주장적 행동과 어머니의 양육행동이 학업성취도에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Child Temperament, Assertive Behavior, and Maternal Parenting Behavior on Academic Achievement in Late Childhood)

  • The purpose of the present study was to examine mechanisms by which the characteristics of child temperament influences academic achievement in late childhood. It was hypothesized that the effects of child temperament on achievement would be mediated by assertive behavior on the part of children and maternal parenting behavior. Data for this study came from self-report questionnaires completed by 657 elementary school children (343 boys, 314 girls). The results of structural equation modeling demonstrated that child temperament affected academic achievement through both assertive behavior and maternal parenting behavior; this was evidenced across the entire sample. Child temperament (approach-withdrawal, mood quality, persistence) also had a number of positive effects on assertive behavior (directiveness, social assertiveness, defense of rights and interests) and maternal parental behavior (warmth-acceptance, guidance). These results were found to be the case for both boys and girls. The results of this study further revealed that maternal parenting behavior mediated the relationship between child temperament and achievement for boys, whereas assertive behavior played the same role for girls. These findings suggest the need for different approaches in developing programs to improve levels of academic achievement which give due consideration to child temperament and social behavior as well as parenting, based on child gender.

Characteristics of late-onset epilepsy and EEG findings in children with autism spectrum disorders

  • Purpose: To investigate the clinical characteristics of late-onset epilepsy combined with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and the relationship between certain types of electroencephalography (EEG) abnormalities in ASD and associated neuropsychological problems. Methods: Thirty patients diagnosed with ASD in early childhood and later developed clinical seizures were reviewed retrospectively. First, the clinical characteristics, language and behavioral regression, and EEG findings of these late-onset epilepsy patients with ASD were investigated. The patients were then classified into 2 groups according to the severity of the EEG abnormalities in the background rhythm and paroxysmal discharges. In the severe group, EEG showed persistent asymmetry, slow and disorganized background rhythms, and continuous sharp and slow waves during slow sleep (CSWS). Results: Between the two groups, there was no statistically significant difference in mean age (P=0.259), age of epilepsy diagnosis (P=0.237), associated family history (P=0.074), and positive abnormal magnetic resonance image (MRI) findings (P=0.084). The severe EEG group tended to have more neuropsychological problems (P=0.074). The severe group statistically showed more electrographic seizures in EEG (P=0.000). Rett syndrome was correlated with more severe EEG abnormalities (P=0.002). Although formal cognitive function tests were not performed, the parents reported an improvement in neuropsychological function on the follow up checkup according to a parent's questionnaire. Conclusion: Although some ASD patients with late-onset epilepsy showed severe EEG abnormalities, including CSWS, they generally showed an improvement in EEG and clinical symptoms in the longterm follow up. In addition, severe EEG abnormalities tended to be related to the neuropsychological function.

아동의 스트레스 대처행동과 사회적 적응 및 행동문제 (Effects of Stress Coping Behaviors on Social Adjustments and Problem Behaviors in Childhood)

  • This study was designed to investigate the relation between stress coping behavior and social adjustments in late childhood. Total 657 teenagers (238 ten-year-olds, 230 twelve-year-olds, and 189 fourteen-year-olds) and their parents living in Inchon area participated in the study. Each child was evaluated whether they cope either (a) defensively or (b) actively in several stressful domains by completing the Stress Coping Hating Scales (Korean). Their social adjustments were measured in areas like peer relationship, family relationship, and conformity with Social Adjustment Scales (Korean). The final examination scores were used to rate children’s Academic Achievements. Finally Korean version of Achenbach’s Child Behavior Check List were completed by parents. As results, girls were found to use more defensive strategies to cope stress, showed more conformity and withdrawn behaviors and achieved higher scores academically than boys. Generally younger children tended to adjust better socially than older children. As children grew older they used more and more defensive strategies to cope with everyday stress. Also older children showed more withdrawn behavior and aggressive behavior than younger children. As anticipated children who used more defensive coping strategies were reported to have more behavior problems, showed poorer social adjustments and academic achievements. Children who used more active coping strategies, on the other hands, were reported to haute less behavior problems, adjusted better socially and had better academia achievements. Finally children who adjusted better socially and had high academic achievements were reported to have less behavior problems.

A Case of Idiopathic Renal Hypouricemia with SLC22A12 Gene Mutation Showing General Weakness and Incidental Renal Stone

  • Idiopathic renal hypouricemia (iRHUC) is a rare hereditary disease caused by a defect in urate handling of renal tubules. Type 1 renal hypouricemia (RHUC1) is diagnosed with confirmation of a mutation in SLC22A12 gene which encodes a renal urate-anion exchanger (URAT1). The majority of iRHUC patients are asymptomatic, especially during childhood, and thus many cases go undiagnosed or they are diagnosed late in older age with complications of hematuria, renal stones, or acute kidney injury (AKI). We report a case of a 7-year-old boy with subtle symptoms such as general weakness and dizziness and revealed hypouricemia and incidental nephrolithiasis. Homozygous mutations were detected in the SLC22A12 (c.774G>A) by molecular analysis. The present case suggests that fractional excretion of uric acid (FEUA) screening could be better followed by the coincidental discovery of hypouricemia, to prevent conflicting complications of iRHUC, even with normal urine uric acid to creatinine ratio (UUA/UCr), and sequential genetic analysis if needed.

부모의 용서와 부모-자녀 의사소통이 남녀 아동의 용서에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Parental Forgiveness and Parent-Child Communication on School-Age Boys' and Girls' Forgiveness)

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of parental forgiveness and parent-child communication on school-age children's forgiveness in late childhood. Methods: A total of 231 fifth and sixth graders (122 boys and 109 girls) living in Daegu participated in the study. They responded to questionnaires regarding parental forgiveness, parent-child communication and children's forgiveness. The data were analyzed by t-tests, Pearson's correlations, and SEM using SPSS 18.0 and LISREL 9.1. Results: First, paternal forgiveness had a direct effect on children's forgiveness. Second, parental forgiveness had an indirect effect on children's forgiveness through parent-child communication. Finally, multigroup analyses revealed that paternal forgiveness had a direct effect and an indirect effect through father-child communication on boys' forgiveness, whereas maternal forgiveness had an indirect effect on girls' forgiveness through mother-child communication. Conclusion: These findings suggest that the gender of parents and children needs to be considered to explain school-age children's forgiveness. In addition, these findings have implications for future research and practice by highlighting the importance of parental forgiveness and parent-child communication in forgiveness education programs for children and parent education programs.
