  • As Confucian ideology dominated all over the society, the androcentric patriarchical society in the last of Chosun Dynasty produced the unequal power relationship between man and woman. It was traditional hostesses(kisaengs) who uniquely had an occupation among the women in this society. In modern society. they are reinterpreted as 'fashion leaders' or 'professional career women with expert knowledge and it caused a lot of the studies of them to be in a progression vigorously. Therefore this paper studied on the influence of the traditional hostesses(kisaengs) -who were educated and permitted in ther social activity formally in a Confuanism-governed society which forbided a woman to participate in a social activity and which did not gave ladies any formal education. The general hostess in the beginning time of the Chosun Dynasty imitated the hair shape of women in the yangban family which formed the highest class in the Chosun Dyansty and it reflected their aspiration for the highest social class. Howerver, coming into the last age of the chosun dynasty, a reverse phenomenon -that women in the yangban family imitated the general hostesses' hairstyle -occured due to the spread of a genre painting & the concubine system. The general hostesses were educated systematically and did social activity and influenced hair shapes as they were independent economically and their influence in the part of hairstyle appeared as great and high EONJIN MEURI and as one-sided EONJIN MEURI. Regarding-as the result of this study on the influence of the traditional hostess's hair shapes on the ladies hair shapes in the last of Chosun Dynasty -that the traditional hostesse of the last age of chosun dynasty played a role as a fashion leader of the ladies at the same age. the general hostesses in Chosun Dynasty should be revaluated... And the study of ladies which were hidden behind the scenes of Confuanism should be made much more.

  • In this study, We fabricated FePt-based perpendicular patterned media using a selective combination of E-beam lithography and either Ar plasma etching (deposition-first process) or FePt lift-off (deposition-last process). We employed the deposition-last process to avoid chemical and structural disordering by impinging Ar ions (deposition-first process). For a patterned medium with 100 nm patterns made by this process, the out-of-plane coercivity was measured to be 5 fold larger than its in-plane value. The deposition-last process may be a promising way to achieve ultra-high density patterned media.

  • During last 30 years, Korea economy has grown so fast and many leading-edge technologies ware introduced from the advanced countries. but this fast growth inevitably produced imperfect completion of infrastructures and caused man-made catastrophes like Sungsu Bridge and Sampoong Department Store. After the incidents, Korea Government and National Assembly established "The Special Law for Safety Maintenance of Infrastructures". According to this law, most of infrastructures must be inspected periodically. During last 10 years after the establishment of the law, many infrastructures were improved and the quality of construction was upgraded. However, important and weak-to-disaster infrastructures need to be watched continuously. Many monitoring technologies were developed and tested in the field. In this paper, the new research project "Establishment of Testbed of Safety Management Network for Main Infrastructures", funded by government, was introduced.

  • Recently, as the multimedia processing application increases rapidly by going on increasing multimedia data, the efficient retrieval method of image information is required in many fields of application and becoming the matter of major concern. Furthermore, in the last few years rapid improvements in hardware technology have made it possible to process, store and retrieve huge amounts of data in a multimedia format. As a result, Content-Based Image Retrieval (CBIR) has been receiving widespread interest during the last decade. This paper propose the content-based retrieval system as a method for performing image retrieval through the effective feature analysis of the object of significant meaning by using YCbCr channel merging on the basis of the characteristics of man's visual system.

  • Four patients with funnel chest deformity corrected in the Department of Thoracic Surgery, Seoul National University Hospital are presented. The first case was a 21-year old female with cyanosis, clubbed fingers and systolic murmur on the left infrascapular region on physical examination associated with agenesis of the right lung. The deformity was of asymmetrical funnel chest, in which the left hemithorax was more sunken. She was corrected by the method of Funnel Costoplasty of Wada. The second case was a three years old boy whose anterior chest wall was symmetrically deformed, and he was corrected by the method of Ravitch using Adkins strut under the sternum. The third was a 22-year old man with symmetrical deformity, and was corrected by the method described by Shannon in 1973. The last patient was a 22-year old man and he had dyspnea on exertion, palpitation and apical systolic murmur with symmetrical funnel chest deformity. He was also corrected by Ravitch operation, All of them has excellent result.

  • Extraparotid Warthin's tumor(EPWT) is a rare disease entity; its incidence is about 8% of Warthin's tumor(WT). The periparotid and upper cervical lymph nodes are the most predilection sites. The lymphoid tissue of WT can act like a regional lymph node, and the necrosis and inflammation within the tumor are well known. In our cases, both 81-year-old man and 58-year-old man were visited our clinic, presented with upper lateral neck mass that had been present for the last few months. We operated the excisional biopsy in level ll of neck. The pathologic examination was proven to be EPWT. We report the unique two cases of extraparotid Warthin's tumor with literature review.

  • For last 150 years, blackbirds have moved from their ancestral habitat, the woodland edge, to man-made habitats such as farmland, parks and gardens. These alternative habitats have become one of main blackbird habitats. I compared density of nests and blackbirds in parks, woodland and campus of University of East Anglia to investigate habitat preference. Blackbirds preferred the area covered by $10\sim50%$ of tree or bush patches for their foraging and nesting sites. Blackbirds were more frequently found near buildings rather than far from buildings. Nest characteristics did not affect predation rate and nest preference. This study suggests that man-made habitats may be important for avoiding predation.

  • A variety of different spirochaetal bacteria inhabit the large intestines of animals and man. This paper focuses on anaerobic intestinal spirochaetes of the genus Brachyspira (formerly Serpulina). Within the last few years, six new Brachyspira species have been officially name and/or renamed, and two other groups of these bacteria have been given provisional species names (Table 1). (omitted)

  • We propose a method that classifies images into two object types man-made and natural objects. A central object is extracted from each image by using central object extraction method[1] before classification. A central object in an images defined as a set of regions that lies around center of the image and has significant color distribution against its surrounding. We define three measures to classify the object images. The first measure is energy of edge direction histogram. The energy is calculated based on the direction of only non-circular edges. The second measure is an energy difference along directions in Gabor filter dictionary. Maximum and minimum energy along directions in Gabor filter dictionary are selected and the energy difference is computed as the ratio of the maximum to the minimum value. The last one is a shape of an object, which is also represented by Gabor filter dictionary. Gabor filter dictionary for the shape of an object differs from the one for the texture in an object in which the former is computed from a binarized object image. Each measure is combined by using majority rule tin which decisions are made by the majority. A test with 600 images shows a classification accuracy of 86%.
