Proposition to Natural Frequency of Liquid Column Vibration Absorber with Vertical-Horizontal Area Ratio (수직-수평부 단면적비에 따른 동조액체기둥형 감쇠장치의 고유진동수 산정식 제안)

  • LCVA has an advantage that its natural frequency can be easily controlled by changing the area ratio of the vertical column and horizontal part. The previous studies investigated the dynamic characteristics of the LCVA under harmonic load. This study experimentally obtained the first and second mode natural frequencies of the LCVA from shaking table tests using white noise and compared the values with the ones by previous study. Test results show that the measured first mode natural frequency of the LCVA has a different value compared with calculated one. The effective length($L_e$) was revised using by power equation. In the Case01 to 19, the standard deviation($s_r$) is 4.7292 and the coefficient of correlation(r) is 0.9856. In the Case21 to 61, the standard deviation ($s_r$) is 14.2143 and the coefficient of correlation(r) is 0.9935. The second mode frequency increases with the increasing area ratio, which is due to the sloshing motion effect resulting from the large area of the vertical column.

  • The vertical forces in rail fasteners at areas of bridge transitions near the embankment and on the pier will occur due to different deformations of adjoining bridges caused by the trainloads, the settlement of supports, and the temperature gradients. The up-lifting forces is not large problem in the blast track because the elasticity of blast and rail pad buffs up-lifting effect. But, it is likely to be difficult to ensure the serviceability of the railway and the safety of the fastener in the end in that concrete slab track consist of rail, fastener, and track in a single body, delivering directly the up-lifting force to the fastener if the deck is bended because of various load cases, such as the end rotation of the overhang due to the vertical load, the bending of pier due to acceleration/braking force and temperature deviation, the settlement of embankment and pier, the temperature deviation of up-down deck and front-back pier, and the rail deformation due to wheel loads. The analysis of the rail fastener is made to verify the superposed tension forces in the rail fastener due to various load cases, temperature gradients and settlement of supports. The potential critical fasteners with the highest uplift forces are the fastener adjacent to the civil joint. The main influence factors are the geometry of the bridge such as, the beneath length of overhang, relative position of bridge bearing and fastener, deflection of bridge and the vertical spring stiffness of the fastener.

  • Pipe wall thinning by flow-accelerated corrosion and various types of erosion is a significant and costly damage phenomenon in secondary piping systems of nuclear power plants (NPPs). Most NPPs have management programs to ensure pipe integrity due to wall thinning that includes periodic measurements for pipe wall thicknesses using nondestructive evaluation techniques. Numerous measurements using ultrasonic tests (UTs; one of the nondestructive evaluation technologies) have been performed during scheduled outages in NPPs. Using the thickness measurement data, wall thinning rates of each component are determined conservatively according to several evaluation methods developed by the United States Electric Power Research Institute. However, little is known about the conservativeness or reliability of the evaluation methods because of a lack of understanding of the measurement error. In this study, quantitative models for UT thickness measurement deviations of nuclear pipes and fittings were developed as the first step for establishing an optimized thinning evaluation procedure considering measurement error. In order to understand the characteristics of UT thickness measurement errors of nuclear pipes and fittings, round robin test results, which were obtained by previous researchers under laboratory conditions, were analyzed. Then, based on a large dataset of actual plant data from four NPPs, a quantitative model for UT thickness measurement deviation is proposed for plant conditions.

  • This document illustrates the way to control of coiling temperature(CTC) of stip tail part in minimill process. The coiling temperature (CT) is very important fact in hot rolling process because the mechnical properties of strip depend on it. In mini-mill pocess, the speed pattern of rolling is different from that of conventional hot rolling. We have a lot of difficulties in controlling the coiling temperature at strip tail part, because after the strip tail is passed out the final stand, it's impossible to control the coiling temperature by using coiling speed. So we have CT deveiation in this gauge, about 160$^{\circ}C$ below in comparison with target CT. It's clear that deviation of mechanical properties(tensile strength, vield ratio etc) of strip to direction of length is so large, so we could not produce middle carbon steel, like this temperature condition. New coiling temperature control of strip especially in strip tail was developed.   • The voltages for pixel electrodes on LCD panels are supplied with analog voltages from LCD Driver ICs (LDIs). The latest LDI developed for large LCD TV's has suffered from the degradation of analog output characteristics (target voltage: AVO and output voltage deviation: dVO). By the failure analysis, humps in $I_D-V_G$ curves have been observed in high voltage (HV) NMOS devices for input transistors in amplifiers. The hump is investigated to be the main cause of the deviation for the driving current in HV NMOS transistors. It also makes the matching between two input transistors worse and consequently aggravates the analog output characteristics. By simply modifying the active layout of HV NMOS transistors, this hump was removed and the analog characteristics (AVO &dVO) were improved significantly. In the help of the improved analog characteristics, it also became possible to reduce the size of the input transistors less than a half of conventional transistors and significantly improve the integration density of LDIs.

  • A new fuzzy control algorithm for the control of active magnetic bearing (AMB) systems is proposed in th~sp aper. It combines PDC algorithm based on the LMI design of Joh et al. [4,5] and Mamdani-type control rules using fuzzy singletons to handle the nonlinear characteristics of AMB systems efficiently. They are named fine mode control and coarse mode control, respectively. The coarse mode control yields fast response for large deviation of the rotor and the fine mode control gives desired transient response for small deviation of the rotor. The proposed algorithm is applied to an AMB system to verify the performance of the proposed method. The comparison of the proposed method with a linear controller using a linearized model about the equilibrium point and the PDC algorithm show the superiority of the proposed algorithm.

  • Two types of polyurethane(PU) ionomer dispersion having different type of soft segment, viz. Poly (tetramethylene adipate) glycol(PTAd), and polypropylene glycol(PPG) were emulsion blended. Viscosity of emulsion blend, mechanical, and surface properties of the emulsion cast films were determined as a function of blend composition. Mechanical properties showed a large scatter of data or negative deviation from the additivity rule, and this was attributed to the incompatibility of soft segments. Contact angle measurement indicated that air facing surface of emulsion cast film contained more of PPG PU, due probably to its smaller particle diameter compared to PTAd PU.

  • As population is increased, land use types are changed mountainous areas from flatland in Korea. Because natural disaster as landslides occur of life, property, and environmental damage, prediction of landslides have become increasingly important. We focus on the issue for assessment of landslides, not slope stability analysis for a simple slope site. In this study, we could know the correlations of mean, standard deviation for brightness value of imagery by aerial photo scanning. The range of brightness values and standard deviation of landslide area is 35~65 and tend to increment of value, in the every years. When evaluating large regions with past occurrence of landslides, it is possible to search for correlation of site conditions such as degree of slope, soil characteristics, vegetative cover, and rainfall conditions in aerial photo interpretation data.

Effect of Si on Spatter Generation and Droplet Transfer Phenomena of MAG Wwlding (MAG 용접의 스패터 발생 및 용적이행현상에 미치는 Si의 영향)

  • The effect of Si content in welding wires on spattering characteristics and droplet transfer phenomena was studied. In MAG welding using 80% Ar-20% $CO_2$ shielding gas, spattering characteristics and droplet transfer phenomena were varied with Si content of wire. With increasing Si content, the spattering ratio and the ratio of large size spatter $(d\geq1.0mm)$ were increased. The increase of Si content in molten metal made surface tension increase due to reduction of oxygen content, which resulted from deoxidizing action of silicon. The increase of surface tension resulted in unstable transfer phenomena and arc instability in both short circuit and spray region. With changing Si content of wire, spattering characteristics and droplet transfer phenomena was directly influenced by the variation of surface tension, compared with the effect of arc stability.

  • In e-commerce systems that deal with a large number of items, the function of personalized recommendation is essential. Collaborative filtering that is a successful recommendation algorithm, suffers from the sparsity, cold-start, and scalability restrictions. Additionally, this work raises a new flaw of the algorithm, inconsistent performance of recommendation. This is also not measurable by the current MAE-based evaluation that does not consider the deviation of prediction error, and furthermore is performed independently of precision and recall measurement. To evaluate the collaborative filtering comprehensively, this work proposes an extended evaluation model that includes the current criteria such as MAE, Precision, Recall, deviation, and applies it to cluster-based combined collaborative filtering.
