  • We present the results from a spectroscopic survey of the nearby galaxy cluster Abell 2107 at z=0.04 that has been known as a rotating cluster. By combining 978 new redshifts from the MMT/Hectospec observations with the data in the literature, we construct a large sample of 1968 galaxies with measured redshifts at R<60', which results in high (80%) and spatially uniform completeness at $m_{r,Petro,0}<19.1$. We use this sample to study the global rotation of the cluster and its connection to the large-scale structures in the universe. We first apply the caustic method to the sample and identify 285 member galaxies in Abell 2107 at R<60'. We then measure the rotation amplitude and the position angle of rotation axis. The member galaxies show strong global rotation at R<20' ($V/{\sigma}{\sim}0.60-0.70$) with a significance of >3.8 ${\sigma}$, which is confirmed by two independent methods. The rotation becomes weaker in outer regions. We find at least four filamentary structures at $R<30h^{-1}Mpc$ smoothly connected to the cluster galaxies, which can suggest that the global rotation of the cluster is induced by the inflow of galaxies from the surrounding large-scale structures in the universe.

  • Bilateral pectoralis major myocutaneous (PMMC) flaps are commonly used to reconstruct large chest wall defects. We report a case of large chest wall defect reconstruction using bilateral PMMC flaps augmented with axillary V-Y advancement rotation flaps for additional flap advancement. A 74-year-old male patient was operated on for recurrent glottic squamous cell carcinoma. Excision of the tumor resulted in a 10×10 cm defect in the anterior chest wall. Bilateral PMMC flaps were raised to cover the chest wall defect. For further flap advancement, V-Y rotation advancement flaps from both axillae were added to allow complete closure. All flaps survived completely, and postoperative shoulder abduction was not limited (100° on the right side and 92° on the left). Age-related skin redundancy in the axillae enabled the use of V-Y rotation advancement flaps without limitation of shoulder motion. Bilateral PMMC advancement flaps and the additional use of V-Y rotation advancement flaps from both axillae may be a useful reconstructive option for very large chest wall defects in older patients.

  • Based on continuum mechanics and the principle of virtual displacements, incremental total Lagrangian formulation (T.L.) and incremental updated Lagrangian formulation (U.L.) were presented. Both T.L. and U.L. considered the large displacement stiffness matrix, which was modified to be symmetrical matrix. According to the incremental updated Lagrangian formulation, small strain, large displacement, finite rotation of three dimensional Timoshenko fiber beam element tangent stiffness matrix was developed. Considering large displacement and finite rotation, a new type of tangent stiffness matrix of the beam element was developed. According to the basic assumption of plane section, the displacement field of an arbitrary fiber was presented in terms of nodal displacement of centroid of cross-area. In addition, shear deformation effect was taken account. Furthermore, a nonlinear finite element method program has been developed and several examples were tested to demonstrate the accuracy and generality of the three dimensional beam element.

  • A large-eddy simulation is performed for turbulent flow in a concentric annulus with the inner wall rotation at Re$\sub$Dh/=8900 for three rotation rates N=0.2145, 0.429 and 0.858. Main emphasis is placed on the inner wall rotation effect on near-wall turbulent structures. Near-wall turbulent structures close to the inner wall are scrutinized by computing the lower-order statistics. The anisotropy invariant map for the Reynolds stress tensor and the invariant function are illustrated to reveal the altered anisotropy in turbulent structure. Probability density functions of the splat/anti-splat process are explored to develop a sufficiently complete picture of the contributions of the flow events to turbulent production. The present numerical results show that the altered turbulent structures may be attributed to the centrifugal instability, which leads to the augmentation of sweep and ejection events.

  • The meridian, the meridian point and the Acupuncture-Bu-Xie(鍼灸補瀉) of oriental medicine are very important in the Department of Acupuncture and Moxibustion. Until now it has been confused at the practical use, and it showed up many transformation to the ages and many scholars. And then, I made a study of effects on the thermal changes of Sangyang($LI_1$,商陽), Igan($LI_2$,二間), Samgan($LI_3$,三間), Hapkok($LI_4$,合谷), Yanggye($LI_5$,陽谿), Kokchi($LI_{11}$,曲池), Yonghyang($LI_{20}$,迎香) following acupuncture on the Hapkok with the Rotated Acupuncture-Bu-Xie(捻轉補瀉) stimulation. This study researched into clinical statistics for 140 men who are in good health, and they are studying oriental medicine at Woosuk university in Korea. This study was covered a period of 3 months form June, 1999 to August, 1999. The objective was divided into seven groups, those are the control group(CON, N=20), the acupuncture stimulation group with non-rotation on Hapkok of left hand(A-I, N=20), the acupuncture stimulation group with non-rotation on non-meridian point(NA) of left hand(A-II, N=20), the acupuncture stimulation group with Bu-rotation(捻轉補法) on Hapkok of left hand(B-I, N=20), the acupuncture stimulation group with Bu-rotation on non-meridian point(NA) of left hand(B-II, N=20), the acupuncture stimulation group with Xie-rotation(捻轉瀉法) on Hapkok of left hand(C-I, N=20), and the acupuncture stimulation group with Xie-rotation on non-meridian point of left hand(C-II, N=20). The first, I took a picture for 140 men with the Digital infrared thermal image(D.I.T.I.). After 10 minutes, I took a second picture for each group following experimental methods, those were followed acupuncture on the Hapkok and the non-meridian point with the retentive and Rotated Acupuncture-Bu-Xie stimulation. The results are summarized as follows : 1. The thermal changes of the area which is a meridian point in the Large Intestine Meridian of the acupuncture stimulation group on Hapkok different from the control groups with significantly change. 2.The thermal changes of the area which is a meridian point in the Large Intestine Meridian of acupuncture stimulation groups on non-meridian point was not significantly different from the control group. 3. The thermal changes of the area which is a meridian point in the Large Intestine Meridian of the acupuncture stimulation group with Bu-rotation on Hapkok different from the control group with significant increase. 4. The thermal changes of the area which is a meridian point in the Large Intestine Meridian of acupuncture stimulation group with Bu-rotation on non-meridian point was not significantly different from the control group. 5. The thermal changes of the area which is a meridian point in the Large Intestine Meridian of the acupuncture stimulation group with Xie-rotation on Hapkok different from the control group with significant decrease and increase following the decreasing or increasing temperature class, and the increasing temperature class of the acupuncture stimulation group with Xie-rotation on Hapkok significantly different from the acupuncture stimulation group with Bu-rotation on Hapkok. 6. The thermal changes of the area which is a meridian point in the Large Intestine Meridian of acupuncture stimulation group with Xie-rotation on non-meridian point was not significantly different from the control group. As a conclusion, I could think that the acupuncture stimulation with Bu-rotation or Xie-rotation on Hapkok affected the thermal change of the area which is a meridian point in the Large Intestine Meridian. And then I could relate these results with the existence of the meridian and meridian point, and with the Rotated Acupuncture-Bu-Xie theory of oriental medicine.

  • This Paper presents a geometrically nonlinear behaviors of shell problems by using the three-dimensional curved shell element, which includs large displacements and large rotations. The standard formulation of the geometrically nonlinearity is restricted to the assumption of infinitesmal rotation increments. This standard formulation for the displacement function is numerically improved by considering the second order expansions of Tayler series. The nonlinear behaviors of the single and double curved shells are compared wi th the other results.

  • Comprehensive numerical computations are made of a homogenous spin-up in a cylindrical cavity with a time-dependent rotation rate. Numerical solutions are acquired to the governing axisymmetric cylindrical Navier-Stokes equation. A rotation rate formula is ${\Omega}_f={\Omega}_i+{\Delta}{\Omega}(1-{\exp}(-t/t_c))$. If $t_c$ is large, it implies that a rotation change rate is small. The Ekman number, E, is set to $10^{-4}$ and the aspect ratio, R/H, fixed to I. For a linear spin-up(${\epsilon}<<$), the major contributor to spin-up in the interior is not viscous-diffusion term but inviscid term, especially Coriolis term, though $t_c$ is very large. The viscous-diffusion term only works near sidewall. But for spin-up from rest, when $t_c$ is very large, viscous-diffusion term affects interior area as well as sidewall, initially. So azimuthal velocity of interior for large $t_c$ appears faster than that of interior for relatively small $t_c$. However, the viscous-diffusion term of interior decreases as time increases. Instead, inviscid term appears in the interior.

  • Planetary gear box is a power transmitter having very high gear ratio in compact volume. The planetary step-down gear box converts high speed and low torque into low speed and high torque, which is widely used in constructional and industrial machinery field. And, the planetary step-up gear box does vice versa working, which is used as main gear box of large sized wind mill system. The large sized planetary gear box must be performed the normal-opposite rotation test as a its durability test for achieving the reliability. The large sized planetary gear box is composed by triple gear trains of sun gear, carrier, and ring gear. If input power is supplied into one of them and the other is fixed, and then another becomes the output part. In this paper, we designed a new test equipment which can do rapid normal and opposite rotational change with only small displacement by supplying test power using the above rotation (driving) characteristics and hydraulic cylinder and link, and also compared and analyzed with existing method through various experiments.

  • The effects of large rotations and p-delta on the dynamic response of a structure subjected to seismic loading and local uplift of its foundation were analyzed in this work. The structure was modeled by an equivalent flexible mat mounted on a rigid foundation that is supported either by a Winkler soil type or a rigid soil. The equations of motion of the system were derived by taking into account the equilibrium of the coupled foundation-mat system where the structure was idealized as a single-degree-of-freedom. The obtained nonlinear coupled system of ordinary differential equations was integrated by using an adequate numerical scheme. A parametric study was performed then in order to evaluate the maximum response of the system as function of the intensity of the earthquake, the slenderness of the structure, the ratio of the mass of the foundation to the mass of the structure. Three cases were considered: (i) local uplift of foundation under large rotation with the p-delta effect, (ii) local uplift of foundation under large rotation without including the p-delta effect, (iii) local uplift of foundation under small rotation. It was found that, in the considered ranges of parameters and for moderate earthquakes, assuming small rotation of foundation under seismic loading can yield more adverse structural response, while the p-delta effect has almost no effect.

  • Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate the job rotation implementation at medium- or small-industries and to identify the viewpoint on job rotation as preventive activity of work-related musculoskeletal disorders(WMSDs). Background: Job rotation has been implemented in many industrial areas in order to prevent the WMSDs as one part of ergonomic program. Generally, the cases of implementation of ergonomic program or successful cases of job rotation were reported on the side of major or large company. Therefore, this study tried to inspect the current state of job rotation implementation at medium- or small-industries. Method: Survey was carried out for randomly contacted forty seven mangers responsible for safety. Survey contained the questionnaires on the general state of company, shift-work and job rotation. Results: The ratio of work-shift in medium- and small-industry was 34.0% and the ratio of job rotation was 19.1%. For manufacturing industry, the ratio was 37.9% and 17.2%, respectively. Conclusion: The implementation ratio of job rotation was relatively low considering the results of previous studies. Many managers appealed the quality decreasing of goods and the injuries of workers due to job rotation, though agreed to train the multi-functional worker and to prevent the WMSDs. Application: The results can be used for the fundamental data how the job rotation will be properly implemented in medium- and small-industry as an administrative control for MSDs.
