A Study on the Meaning and the Factors of Formation of the Prototypal Landscape (원형경관(原型景觀)의 개념 정립 및 형성요인 연구)

  • This study is aimed at the necessity application in 'Prototype' general concept on discovering cultural identity landscape of our national characteristics landscape research. Accordingly, It is considered landscape, fundamental concept, the prototypal landscape concept from previously researches that have been used. At the same time, the concept of prototypal landscape has been established by commenting a point of view which is defining previous researches that controverted prototypal landscape, then establish concept of prototypal landscape and derive attribute by comparing and considering similar terminology of prototypal landscape. Previously, research prototypal landscape in depth by applying defined concept of prototypal landscape and considering inherence ideological and environmental background prototypal figure and structure. Formation pattern of the prototypal landscape is classified in both philosophical formative primary factor from philosophy, religion and environmental formative factor of human that accumulated cultural life from a region and life. Examples of forming the prototypal landscape by philosophical formative factor are classified as 'Feng-Shui(the theory of divination based on topography)', 'Yin-Yang theory', 'Confucian idea theory' 'Philosophical Taoism', 'Buddhism theory' and 'Nature theory' then environmental formative factor are interpreted by 'Taekliji(determining of advantageous land)', 'Imwon(forest) economical geography', 'land use', 'topography' and 'terrain' as examples. This study is anticipating a new point of view and an establishment of reliable preservation to our characteristic of the prototypal landscape by considering concept of prototypal landscape and formative factor as studying limits of prototypal landscape and researching concentrated origination of the prototype.

  • District unit plan was arranged for rational induction and regulation of development due to increase of demand for comfortable environment and change of recognition of urban view. This study analyzes cases of district unit plan since 2003 and draws the following conclusions to provide basic material necessary for landscape impact assessment and analysis of actual conditions. It used regulation of design factors and analysis of physical index in making view plan and focuses on characteristics of visual perception in predicting impact through simulation. Future landscape impact assessment must establish a variety of indices and application of various techniques.

  • The Chinese Architect Wangshu, who won the Pritzker Architecture Prize at 2012, is the first and only winner in China. This study focused on the expression of his unique architectural ideas. Especially with a high interest in Chinese traditional calligraphy and landscape painting, Wangshu tried to use its traditional features to form his own architectural way. First this study looked at the features of calligraphy and landscape painting. Second this research studied the expression of Wangshu's architectural practice in calligraphy's way. Lastly this study furthered study of Wangshu's architecture combined with landscape paintings' features. The results state these following. 1) For calligraphy, he used the "modular composition" of Chinese characters to architectural composition, which included architectural form and materials. The "similarities" and "space creation" of calligraphy are respectively applied to architectural spatial details and site planning. 2) For landscape painting, Wangshu borrows its elements to compose his architecture with "gardening consciousness". The "view method" of paintings was used to his architectural pedestrian flows, and Wangshu also based on the "space creation" of landscape painting to do architectural space design with creating the similar atmosphere.

  • In this paper, we set up a vista point overlooking the focus of new research center placed on the existing research literature and point to the selection of books, reports or studies actually suggested focusing on topics such as for landscape simulation evaluation. To re-organize and classify a number of items were presented to spill the evaluation items of this view point selection via the SPSS Statistics. Evaluation items 16 through a professional survey to establish a concrete and systematic plan with selected research results leaked technical characteristics of the view that detailed questions to the factors of technical characteristics and population-specific comparisons through factor analysis in the first, landscapes simulation The views were set out. Second, if you set 16 classified by type of view that considering a similar nature or characteristics depending on the properties of the view that publicity, overlooking castle, the castle was divided into three types of places. Third, the views point for the public good are three items, vista point at which the gender perspective has six items that gender point of view places is set to seven items, was set up to view the most appropriate place to point gender. These results provide a framework for analysis and future system reliability and landscape simulation evaluation study is expected to be used as reference material.

A Study of Landscape Management Techniques based on Viewing Characteristics of Mountain Landscape - Focused on the Surrounding Areas of Bukhansan Mountain -

  • This study is based on the viewing characteristics of mountain landscapes. It investigates whether the current landscape management-related regulations are efficient in terms of the viewing characteristics of the mountain landscape against Bukhansan Mountain in which the conventional landscape management techniques were used. In addition, some viewing characteristics of mountain landscapes, such as distance from the view point to the target mountain, angle of elevation, altitude, gradient, have been analyzed and 3 cases of viewing condition have been simulated. The following results were obtained: i) Mountain landscapes can be managed up to 7~8 times of the mountain height with a $5{\sim}9^{\circ}$ of elevation angle. ii) In the Natural Landscape District which is situated on the hillside, it is reasonable to include altitude, gradient as criteria for regulation. iii) According to a simulation of the construction permit height by viewing distance, it was confirmed that buildings can be constructed up to 111.55m when viewing the 20% ridge, 150.75m when viewing the 50% ridge and 189.05m when viewing the 70% ridge. iv) The construction permit height varies depending on the landscape analysis method that is used and the application conditions. It is therefore unfair to apply height limit regulations to all buildings without considering the geographical features or viewing characteristics. v) It is unreasonable to apply 2~3 management techniques to the same area for landscape management. Therefore, we recommend the Focused Landscape Management Area based on the landscape master plan as a integrating mountain landscape management techniques.

  • This paper examines the conceptual shift of wilderness and its legacy to the contradictory view of nature in landscape architecture tradition. In hunting and gathering societies, there was no dichotomy between the cultivated environment and wilderness. 'Wilderness' is a word whose first usage marks the transition from a hunting-gathering economy to an agricultural society. We can identify two archetypal responses to wilderness: classical and romantic. In the classical perspective, wilderness is something to be feared-an area of waste and desolation. The conquest of wilderness and the creation of usable places is a mark of civilization. For the romantics, in contrast, untouched wilderness has the greatest significance; it has a purity that human contact tends to sully and degrade. Wilderness for the romantics is a place to revere, a place of deep spiritual significance, and an object of aesthetic experience. In the Western world, the classical position predominated until the last two hundred years when the romantic concept began to gain more ground. The shift was made possible by the change in the way nature is understood. Modernity and modern science objectified nature. The transition of the concept of wilderness exemplifies the objectification and pictorialization of nature. Wilderness in the modern era is not different from the pastoral landscape which can be controlled by landscape architects.

Historical Transformation of Types of Hand-Drawing and Their Hybridization in Landscape Architectural Design (조경 설계에서 손 드로잉 유형의 역사적 변천과 혼성화)

  • This work explores the historical transformation of manual landscape architectural drawings in terms of hybridization to uncover their inherent creative aspect. Landscape architectural drawing has duel functions; namely, scientific instrumentality and artistic imagination, which are relative, interchangeable, and transformable. These characteristics have been embodied in the forms of particular types of drawing, projections, perspective views, and diagrams, which are not so much clearly distinguishable as rather mutually complementary and hybridized. In particular, the pictorial views of plants in the forms of a perspective view or elevation were frequently hybridized to projection drawings of grounds and architectural structures, which is called planometrics. Particular drawing types have often emerged as suitable and thereby dominant forms, depending on the particular historical styles of landscape design. Sixteenth-century Italian Renaissance gardens and seventeenth-century French formal gardens were generally visualized in the form of projections. Eighteenth-century and early nineteenth-century English landscape gardens were frequently represented in a pictorial perspective view. In nineteenth-century America, different drawing techniques such as competition drawing, photography, and map overlay were specialized depending on their respective functions. Twentieth-century American modernists began to explore the diagram to deploy design strategies. In such transformation, however, the planometric, which considers both the ground plane and plant's frontal identities simultaneously and thereby is suitable to landscape design, was frequently used as a hybridization technique. In the mid-nineteenth century, a top view of plants replaced the planometric, and then, in the twentieth century, plants were no longer represented artistically, instead reduced to the forms of standardized flat symbols. The use of instrumental visualizations thereby gradually increased rather than the use of an imaginative representation for landscape architectural drawings.

Measures to Implements the Landscape Preservation and Management on Consideration of Changing the Actual Condition and Landscape Visibility in the Surround Area of the Jongmyo (종묘 주변지역의 현상변경 실태 및 경관가시성을 고려한 경관보존.관리방안)

  • The purpose of this study is a suggestion which is a way for preservation and management the Jongmyo landscape based on its landscape visibility and land use. To do this, we had done a field investigation and a literature examination. The investigations are as following; we researched current application which for changing the actual condition near the Jongmyo. According to this research site could notice that landscape visibility can be affected by not only the height of building the Jongmyo. The visibility can be affected by photograph's undulation, too. Furthermore, we notice that even some building are located far from the view point and view corridor, it can be a factor which decrease the quality of the landscape visibility. Finally, we can propose how to make way for conservation and management by through restrict land use which based on changing the actual condition, landscape visibility and land use around the cultural assets.

  • Apartment houses, the representative type of urban housing, are becoming an important element in Korea urban landscape. In this regard, this study aims to consider landscape in view of city residents reflecting human's visual perceptual characteristic, and in line with this, the urban landscape of apartment houses viewed from the urban center main intersections has been embodied according to the physical components of the intersections, which was followed by preference survey of the city residents, and then based on this, the visual-perceptual characteristics were examined. The findings are as follows: 1. The findings gained from the average of the landscape types indicate that the city residents are more satisfied when the shielding by surrounding buildings is minimized, view securing is relatively good, the whole complex is clearly observed because of its proximity to the visual point, and the view of the complex is well recognized from the focus point. 2. The examination concerning the preferred factors positively evaluated in terms of architectural planning shows that when the complex view is changeable sophisticated, makes the residents feel comfortable with its stable, open plan, and it's in harmony with surroundings, such housing attracts the city residents. 3. In terms of architectural planning factors, it turned out that the complex is more preferred when the visibility of the complex and the scale of surrounding green space are in good condition, and such elements of the complex as the sky line, the overall shape, the elevation, variation of the shape and height are harmonious with one another.

Ecological Features appearing in Korean Traditional Architecture and Landscape Architecture (한국 전통건축과 랜드스케이프 건축에 나타난 생태학적 특성)

  • The main aim of this research is centered on the relation between nature and humans, and is to study the ecological characteristics appearing both in Landscape Architecture, one of the currents of ecological architecture as the architectural solution on the relation between humans and nature, and in our traditional architecture. Through this study, we were able to see that our traditional architecture was influenced by our ancestor's view of nature, and that the foremost feature of our ancestor's view of nature on our traditional architecture is not conflicting with nature, but, instead it is complying with it through seeking harmony with nature. Also we could see that our ancestor's view of nature is similar to Landscape Architecture having come to the fore toward the tendency of modern ecological paradigm in that it is the representation seeking the organic view of nature pursuing the oneness among artificial structure, humans, and nature. That is, we could figure out that various ecological features appearing in modem Landscape Architecture had been represented for a long long time, in a natural fashion, In the manner of space makeup in our traditional architecture. This is the characteristic of our ecological thinking system understanding nature and humans at the same context, and it has come down not only to our everyday living but to the manner of architectural solutions as well. Through this research, we could reconsider the modern value of ecological architecture inherent in our traditional architecture.
