To evaluate the effect of the solidified/stabilized sewage sludge on landfill sites, lysimeter tests were conducted. Lysimeters (LR1, LR2, and LR3) were filled with the material(Compost : Fodder : Sand = 10 : 10 : 80) and covered with different types of the cover soils, the G solidified sludge produced from the neutral solidifying chemical agent(LR1), the A solidified sludge produced from the alkali solidifying chemical agent(LR2), and the weathered granite soil(LR3). Those lysimeters were kept at the temperature controlled room with 30 $\pm$ 2$^{\circ}C$ for about 450 days. As the results, it was appeared LR2 > LR1 > LR3 that total gas production rate(L), gas production rate(L/VS(kg)) and cumulative gas(CO$_2$ + CH$_4$) production. There were not significant differences at decrease of the COD$_{Cr}$ in the leachate from LR1 and LR3. Thus, it had been shown that the use of the G solidified sludge as cover soil did not affect the COD$_{Cr}$ in the leachate. The COD$_{Cr}$ from LR2 had been increased since around 250 days because solidified/stabilized sewage sludge became re-slurry. T-N and T-P from LR3 also were higher than LR1 and LR2. Also were, the use of the solidified/stabilized sewage sludge as a cover soil, therefore, did not affect the T-N and T-Pconcentrations in the leachate.

The purpose of this study was to estimate greenhouse gas emissions using IPCC 1996 Guideline Tier 1, Good Practice Guidance 2000 Tier 2 and IPCC 2006 Guideline First Order Decay methods from landfill disposal facility. In addition, a comparative analysis evaluating the pros and cons of each method based on assumptions and default factors was considered for each method. The greenhouse gas emission computed using IPCC 1996 Guideline Tier 1 method (2,760 ton/yr) was higher than the estimation of GPG 2000 Tier 2 and IPCC 2006 Guideline First Order Decay Model which showed 1500 and 880 ton/yr respectively between 2000 and 2013.
The high fuel flexibility of Micro Gas Turbine(MGT) has boosted their use in a wide variety of applications. Recently, the demand for biogas generated from the digestion of organic wastes and landfill as a fuel for gas turbines has increased. We researched the influence of firing landfill gas(LFG) on the performance and operating characteristics of a micro gas turbine combined heat and power system. $CH_4$ and $CO_2$ simultaneous recovery process has been developed for field plant scale to provide an isothermal, low operating cost method for carrying out the contaminants removal in Land Fill Gas(LFG) by liquid phase catalyst for introduce into the green house for the purpose of $CO_2$ rich cultivation of the plants. Methane purification and carbon dioxide stripping by muti panel autocirculation bubble lift column reactor utilizing Fe-EDTA was conducted for evaluate optimum conditions for land fill gas. Based on inflow rate of LFG as 0.207 $m^3$/min, 5.5 kg/$cm^2$, we designed reactor system for 70% $CH_4$ and 27% $CO_2$ gas introduce into MGT system with $H_2S$ 99% removal efficiency. A green house designed for four different carbon dioxide concentration from ambient air to 1500 ppm by utilizing the exhaust gas and hot water from MGT system.

Open dump of refuse causes groundwater and soil contamination by leachate and air pollution by LFG(Landfill Gas). In this paper, in order to perform a study about reduction of high leachate and LFG collection & control, using a 3-D, 2-phase, transient FDM model, the analysis of simultaneous flow of leachate and LFG has been carried out. In present numerical analysis it is assumed that 58 percents of LFG will evaporate to the ambient air and the recharge rate of a landfill be 12 percent of the average precipitation per year. All other data were excerpted at the point of 1995 when three refuse layers had been buried. From numerical analysis we concluded that maximum head value is approximately 26 mH2O<-에이치투오 (2.52 atm) in the center of the system and that installing venting trench plays an important role in landfill stabilization. Evan with the assumption of three layers constructed and low recharge rate applied, it is found that cumulative leachate and LFG productions will be 15.1 million 세제곱미터, 5.58 billion 세제곱미터, respectively after 40 years.

Quantifying the methane emission from landfills is important to evaluate measures for reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. To estimate methane emission for the entire landfills from 1990 through 2004 in Korea, Tier 1 and 2 methodologies were used. In addition, five different scenarios were adopted to identify the effect of important variables on methane emission. The trends of methane emission using Tier 1 were similar to the disposed waste amount. Methane emission using Tier 2 increased as the degradation of waste was gradually proceeded. This result indicates that disposed waste amount and methane generation rate are the important variables for the estimation of methane emission by Tier 1 and 2, respectively. As for the different scenarios, methane emission was highest with scenario I that the entire landfills in Korea were regarded as one landfill. Methane emissions by scenario III and IV considering different $DOC_F$ values with the waste type and different MCF values with the height of waste layer, respectively, were underestimated compared to scenario II. This result indicates that the method of scenario I employed to most previous studies may lead to the overestimation of methane emission. Therefore, more careful consideration of the variables should be needed to develop the methodologies of greenhouse gas emission in landfills along with the characteristics of disposed waste in Korea.
This study is objected to estimate the variation of the coefficient of leachate according to designs in landfill cover systems. Design (a) is the unsanitary landfill cover system with 50 cm soil. But Design (b), (c) are sanitary cover systems which are composed of soil top layer, drainage layer, barrier liner(Design (b): Geomembrane(1.5 mm) and compacted clay liner(30 cm), Design (c) compacted clay liner(45 cm)), gas venting layer. Quantity of leachate estimates Rational Method generally and depend on the coefficient of leachate, on one of the factors in Rational Method largely. The coefficient of leachate is defined as the leachate production ratio result from incident precipitation. To estimate the variation of the coefficient of leachate, the authors use HELP(Hydrologic Evaluation of Landfill Performance) Simulation and Pilot Test. As a result of HELP Simulation, the coefficient of leachate is 0.36∼0.42 in Design (a) and 0.03∼0.15 in Design (b), (c) according to designs in landfill cover systems and quality of barrier liner placement. These numerical values are similar to 0.13 with the coefficient of leachate in Pilot Test.
In order to increase landfill gas (LFG) production with food waste leachate, this study was confirmed to be acidogenetic conditions for landfill site injection. Thereby, it was conducted for acidogenetic treatments to determine the decrease in viscosity and VFA production. After acidogenesis treatments, solubility of food waste leachate increased approximately 15%, and as a result, UASB and CSTR were similar by reactor type using the change of retention time. Based on the result of the change in viscosity by reactor type, efficiency of UASB showed approximately 11.38% of higher decrease in viscosity as $76.95{\pm}3.27%$ vs. CSTR. Also, VFA production showed the higher increase of 2.01 times (UASB) and 1.76 times (CSTR) respectively at the point of increasing retention time from 3 to 5 days. From the above results, efficiency of UASB in a reactor was relatively higher because large molecular lead to longer retention time than small molecular due to having screen effect in the fixed media.

In this study, we offered the results of geophysical and geochemical survey on the municipal waste disposal area to delineate the size and extent of leachate contamination. Preliminary to intensive geochemical investigation, we performed two geophysical methods to characterize the survey area. Electromagnetic (EM) and magnetic method were used far site investigation. From the EM method, we can get the information of soil conductivity directly related to the leachate of the contaminations and from magnetic anomalies we can find the boundary of landfill which is not identified on the surface due to soil capping. The results of geophysical survey were well matched to those of geochemical method carried out inside and near the landfill. Electric conductivity (EC) of the groundwater sampled from low resistivity anomaly region of EM result was higher than background value and the border estimated from the magnetic survey showed good agreement with that estimated from the soil gas detection survey.
This research was performed to evaluate the effect of 'Food Wastes (FW) Direct Landfilling Prohibition' on characteristics of landfill gas (LFG) and leachate and the appropriateness of current legislation. Approximately 45% (Exp.45) and 15% (Exp.15) of FW were filled in two lysimeters. During 570 days, 1400 L of LFG was generated from Exp.45%, which was much more than 906 L of Exp.15. There was no significant difference of LFG composition between Exp.15 and Exp.45. 2~30 ppmv of odorous hydrogen sulfide was detected in Exp.45, while 2~7 ppmv was in Exp.15. There was also no significant difference in the leachate generation between the two. On day 570, $BOD_5$ of Exp.45 and Exp.15 were 37000 mg/Land 25630 mg/L and $COD_{Cr}$ of Exp.45 and Exp.15 were 45480 mg/L, 30294 mg/L. TOC of Exp.45 was 2~3 times higher than Exp.15. Higher portion of FW in landfilling increased LFG generation. However, it generated more odor and made the quality of leachate. Therefore, 'FW direct Landfilling Prohibition' was evaluated as an appropriate legislation.
