Damage detection in structures using modal curvatures gapped smoothing method and deep learning

  • This paper deals with damage detection using a Gapped Smoothing Method (GSM) combined with deep learning. Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) is a model of deep learning. CNN has an input layer, an output layer, and a number of hidden layers that consist of convolutional layers. The input layer is a tensor with shape (number of images) × (image width) × (image height) × (image depth). An activation function is applied each time to this tensor passing through a hidden layer and the last layer is the fully connected layer. After the fully connected layer, the output layer, which is the final layer, is predicted by CNN. In this paper, a complete machine learning system is introduced. The training data was taken from a Finite Element (FE) model. The input images are the contour plots of curvature gapped smooth damage index. A free-free beam is used as a case study. In the first step, the FE model of the beam was used to generate data. The collected data were then divided into two parts, i.e. 70% for training and 30% for validation. In the second step, the proposed CNN was trained using training data and then validated using available data. Furthermore, a vibration experiment on steel damaged beam in free-free support condition was carried out in the laboratory to test the method. A total number of 15 accelerometers were set up to measure the mode shapes and calculate the curvature gapped smooth of the damaged beam. Two scenarios were introduced with different severities of the damage. The results showed that the trained CNN was successful in detecting the location as well as the severity of the damage in the experimental damaged beam.

신발장착형 보행분석 트래커의 사용자경험 분석 (User Experience Analysis of a Shoe-mounted Gait Analysis Tracker)

  • Gait analysis trackers have been developed to monitor daily gait patterns to improve users' running performance and reduce the risk of injuries. A variety of gait analysis trackers are available on the market(e.g., foot pods, insoles). Depending on the type of gait analysis tracker, users' discomfort or satisfaction as well as required properties may differ. Hence, the purpose of this study was to compare and analyze user experience of three different types of commercial shoe-mounted gait analysis trackers and their mobile applications in a laboratory environment using questionnaires based on actual experiences of each product. Ten males and ten females who regularly enjoy walking and running exercises participated in the experiment. After the participants set up the tracker and application themselves without support from researchers, ten to thirty minutes' exercise was permitted on each product. Following this, the participants answered questionnaires containing evaluation variables on the device and mobile application, as well as satisfaction, intention to use, recommendation, and purchase. In addition, they were asked questions about the attractive features and shortcomings of each device and application. The results showed that the PRO-SPECS® smart insole was preferred over the others for ease of use, perceived durability, psychological burden of the design, and usefulness of the information provided by the application. Along with the results of questionnaire, this study also discussed strategies and recommendations for future product design and development.

Uniform large scale cohesionless soil sample preparation using mobile pluviator

  • This research work deals with the development of air pluviation method for preparing uniform sand specimens for conducting large scale laboratory testing. Simulating real field conditions and to get reliable results, air pluviation method is highly desirable. This paper presents a special technique called air pluviation or sand raining technique for achieving uniform relative density. The apparatus is accompanied by a hopper, shutters with different orifice sizes and numbers and set of sieves. Before using this apparatus, calibration curves are drawn for relative density against different height of fall (H) and shutter sizes. From these calibration curves, corresponding to the desired relative density of 60%, the shutter size of 13mm and height of fall of 457.2 mm, are selected and maintained throughout the pluviation process. The density obtained from the mobile pluviator is then verified using the Dynamic Cone Penetrometer (DCP) test where the soil is poured in the box using defined shutter size and fall height. The results obtained from the DCP test are averaged as 60±0.5 which was desirable. The mobile pluviator used in this research is also capable of obtaining relative densities up to 90%. The instrument is validated using experimental and numerical approach. In numerical study, Plaxis 3D software is used in which the soil mass is defined by 10-Node tetrahedral elements and 6-Node plate is used to simulate plate behavior in the validation phase. The results obtained from numerical approach were compared with that of experimental one which showed very close correlation.

진동기반의 SI 기법을 이용한 현수교 행어의 장력 추정 : III. 실험적 검증 (Estimating Tensile Force of Hangers in Suspension Bridges Using Frequency Based SI Technique : III. Experimental Verification)

  • 본 논문은 현수교 이중 행어 시스템에 대한 진동기반 SI 장력추정기법의 실험적 검증을 소개한다. 현수교 이중 행어 시스템을 모사한 실험 모델을 제작되었으며, 세가지 경우의 클램프 위치에 대한 세가지 경우의 행어장력에 대해서 총 9회의 진동실험이 반복 수행되었다. 각각의 계측된 가속도 응답 데이터에 대해서, 모달분석을 통한 고유진동수와 모드 형상이 추출되었다. 추출된 일련의 동특성치들에 대하여 기존의 장력추정 이론인 현이론과 선형회기법을 적용하여 장력을 추정하였다. 또한 진동기반 SI 장력추정기법을 적용하여 장력을 추정하였는데, 추정된 장력은 수치모델과 계측모델의 동적 특성치들이 동일하게 될 때, 수치모델의 케이블 장력을 인식함으로써 추정되었다. 추정결과, 클램프의 위치에 따라서 기존의 이론을 이용한 추정장력의 오차는 최대 53.1%까지 보이는 반면, 진동기반 SI기법을 이용한 추정장력기법의 장력추정 오차는 모든 경우에 대하여 3% 이내 이다.

식품의 미생물 규격기준의 국제적동향 (International Tendencies for Estavlishing a Microbiogical Standard for Food)

  • In 1962 the governing bodies of FAO and WHO approved the establishment of a joint FAO/WHO Food Standards Programme, the creation of a jointly sponsored body to be known as the Codex Alimentarius commission to implement the Programme. It can reasonably be claimed that the Commission has assumad the leading role in establishing internation food standards throughout the world. The Codex Committee of Food Hygiene has received much advice and assistance from other international organization which have been working in this field for a number of years. In particular, it has received valuable background documentation from the International Commission on Microbiological Specifications for Foods(ICMSF) which was set up by the International Association of Microbiological Societies(IAMS), and also from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). Nevertheless, in spite of the information supplied by governments and research bodies in this field, microbiological standards have proved to be a highly controversial subject from the point of view of Codex standards. When it is decided to establish a microbiological standard for a food or class of foods, the following technical and administrative aspects must be considered: 1) The standard should be based on factual studies and serve one or more of the following objectives: (1) to determine the conditions of hygiene under which the food should be manufactured; (2) to minimize the hazards to public health; (3) to measure the keeping quality and storage potential of the food 2) The standard should be attainable under practicable operating and commercial conditions and should not entail the use of excessive heat treatment or the additions of extra preservatives. 3) The standard should be determined after investigation of the processing operation. 4) The standard should be as simple and inexpensive to administer as possible, the number of tests being kept to a minimum. 5) Details of methods to be used for sampling, examining and reporting should accompany all published microbiological standards. 6) In establishing tolerance levels for the permissible number of defective samples, allowance should be made for sampling and other variations due to differences in the laboratory methods. The following additional points should be kept in mind: 1) It is not satisfactory to establish one set of microbiological standards for a miscellaneous group of foods, such as“frozen foods”or“precooked foods”. 2) Microbiological standards should be applied first to the more hazardous types of food on the basis of experience of expected microbiological levels, taking into account variations in composition, processing procedures, and storage. 3) When a standard is established, there should be a definite relationship between the standard and the hazard against which it is meant to protect the public. 4) The sensitivity, reliability, and reproducibility of the sampling and analytical methods should be compared in different laboratories and the methods to be used should be specified in detail as part of the standard. 5) Tolerances should be included in the standard to account for inaccuracies of sampling and analysis. 6) Standards should be applied on a voluntary basis before compliance is made mandatory.

다중구슬 폐구균 혈청형 분석법의 국내 확립과 적용 연구 (Establishment and Application of a Multibead Serotyping Assay for Pneumococci in Korea)

  • 목적: 폐구균의 혈청형 분석은 백신의 효능을 평가하고 감시하는데 매우 중요하다. 그러나 폐구균의 혈청형 분석이 힘들기 때문에 최근 라텍스 구슬과 흐름세포측정기를 이용한 다중구슬 혈청형 분석법이 소개되었다. 이 연구에서는 새로운 혈청형 분석법을 이화백신연구센터에서 구축하고 실제 임상 검체들에 적용해보았다. 방법: 라텍스 구슬 3종과 폐구균 피막다당 특이 단클론항체 1가지, 시동체 2종을 Univerisity of Alabama at Birmingham에서 제공 받았다. 이 시료들을 이용하여 단클론항체와 wzy 다중 PCR을 이용한 다중구슬 혈청형 분석법을 확립하였다. 그리고 75개의 혈청형이 알려져 있는 검체를 이용하여 이화백신효능연구센터에 확립된 다중구슬 혈청형 분석법의 정확도를 보았고 이를 토대로 528개의 임상 검체를 분석해 보았다. 결과: 다중구슬 혈청형 분석법은 이화백신효능연구센터에 안정적으로 확립되었다. 75종의 이미 혈청형이 알려져 있는 검체를 암호화하여 분석한 결과 전부 일치하여 정확도가 높음을 보여 주었고 실제 임상 검체에도 적용한 결과 94.3% (498/528)에서 혈청형을 확인할 수 있었다. 결론: 다중구슬 분석법은 다수의 혈청형을 쉽고 빠르게 한번에 많은 수의 검체를 확인할 수 있는 객관적인 검사 방법으로 향후 임상적 진단과 역학연구 등의 폐구균의 혈청형 분석에 유용하게 사용될 수 있을 것이다.

농산물 중 Fenoxanil 잔류성 시험법 개발 (Development of Analytical Method for Fenoxanil in Agricultural Products Using GC-NPD and GC/MS)

  • 본 연구는 GC/NPD와 GC/MS를 이용하여 농산물 시료에 적용 가능한 MBI propionamide계 살균제 fenoxanil의 잔류 분석법을 확립하였다. 고추, 배추, 사과, 현미 및 콩을 대표 농산물로 설정하여 fenoxanil 단성분의 정량 및 확인 시험법을 개발하였다. 각각 농산물에 대한 추출은 acetone을 이용하였으며, 분배과정은 n-hexane/dichloromethane (80/20, v/v), 정제는 florisil 흡착제를 활용한 정제법을 적용하였다. 정량분석은 DB-5 capillary column을 GC/NPD에 장착하여 수행하였고, 각 농산물에 대한 정량한계는 0.04 mg/kg으로 설정 가능하였다. 회수율은 82.2-109.1%로 조사되었으며 농산물 시료의 종류 및 처리수준에 관계없이 7.2% 미만의 변동계수를 나타냈다. 정성적 확인을 위해 GC/MS를 이용, m/z 125.0, 188.9 및 293.0을 fenoxanil의 정성확인을 위한 선택적 이온으로 설정하였다.

자동화장비 계측효율 관리적 측정방법 제안 (A Suggestion for Counting Efficiency Management of the Automation Instrument)

  • Purpose Quality control of instrument takes up a large part in the Radioimmunoassays. The gamma-ray instrument, which is one of the important instruments in the laboratory, observes the condition and performance of instrument and performs quality control of the instrument by measuring the Normalization, Calibration, Background and etc. However, there are some automation instruments which can't measure the counting efficiency of gamma-ray meters, resulting in insufficient management in terms of performance evaluation of gamma-ray meters. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to manage the quality control continuously and regularly by suggesting how to measure the counting efficiency of gamma-ray instruments. Materials and Methods In case of a comparative measurement method to a gamma-ray instrument dedicated to nuclear medical examination, the CPM and counting efficiency can be obtained after the measurement of normalization by inserting the I-125 $200{\mu}L$(CPM 50,000~500,000) into the test tube. With this CPM and counting efficiency values, it's possible to calculate the measurement of the DPM value and count the CPM from the automation instrument from the same source, and enter the DPM to calculate the counting efficiency using a comparative measurement method. Another method is to calculate the counting efficiency by estimating the half life using the radiation source information of the tracer in B test reagents of company A. Results According to the calculation formula using the DPM obtained by counting the normalization of gamma-ray meters, the detection efficiency was 75.16% for Detector 1, 76.88% for Detector 2, 77.13% for Detector 3, 75.36% for Detector 4 and 73.2% for Detector 5 respectively. Using another calculation formula estimated from the shelf life, the data of the detection efficiency from Detector 1 to Detector 5 were 74.9%, 75.1%, 76.5%, 74.9% and 73.2% respectively. Conclusion Although the accuracy of counting efficiencies of both methods are insufficient, this is considered to be useful for ongoing management of quality control if counting efficiency is managed after setting the acceptable ranges. For example, if the measurement efficiency is set to 70% or higher, the allowed %difference between measurements is within 3% and the %difference with the detector wall is set within 5%.

실내 microcosm실험에 의한 시흥광산 및 덕음광산 주변 오염 논토양내 중금속의 지구화학적 거동 연구 (Geochemical Behavior of Metals in the Contaminated Paddy Soils around Siheung and Deokeum Mines through Laboratory Microcosm Experiments)

  • 본 연구는 시흥 동연아연 및 나주 덕음 금은 폐광산 주변 오염 논토양을 대상으로 시기별 중금속의 수직적 분포 및 함량변화를 실내 microcosm실험을 통하여 조사하였으며 산화환원 환경 변화에 따른 중금속의 지구화학적 거동 양상을 평가하고자 하였다. 두 지역의 원 논토양은 광물학적 구성, 중금속 함량 및 pH와 같은 지구화학적 특성이 차이를 나타내었으며 특히 덕음에서 상대적으로 낮은 중금속 함량에 비해 높은 교환성 형태의 비율로 중금속 용출이 높을 것으로 예상되었다. 18주의 침수기간동안 microcosm토양 상하부는 산화환원 환경 차이를 유지하였으며 pH의 경우 시흥의 상하부 토양 및 덕음의 하부 토양에서는 중성-알칼리성을 유지하였으나 덕음 상부는 3.2-3.8의 강산성을 나타내었다. 용존 Fe, Mn은 상부에 비해 하부에서 높은 농도를 보여 환원성 용해현상에 의한 용출거동을 나타내었다. Pb 및 Zn는 산화환경인 상부에서 그 용출이 높게 나타나며 pH가 높은 시흥의 경우 상층수/토양 경계면에 철 및 망간이 풍부한 층이 형성되고 중금속의 이동을 억제하는 트랩역할을 하여 용출정도가 낮았다. 반면 pH가 낮은 덕읍에서는 원 토양의 상대적으로 낮은 중금속 함량에 비해 그 용출정도가 높았으며 침수 및 배수의 시기별 화학적 존재 형태의 변화도 나타났다. 강산성의 논토양에서는 침수기에 토양 상층부에서 벼작물의 중금속 흡수도가 증가할 수 있으며 배수후에는 교환성 형태의 증가로 역시 그 흡수도가 높아질 것으로 예상된다.

역학적 시험에 의한 다짐방법의 적합성 평가를 위한 기초연구 (Fundamental Study for Compaction Methods by Mechanical Tests)

  • 본 연구에서는 현재 사용하고 있는 다짐시험결과 분석에 있어서 시험자에 따라 개인 오차가 발생하는 실내다짐시험 결과의 적부판정을 위한 기준을 제시하고자 실시한 실내시험결과를 분석하여 ASTM 규정을 이용한 다짐도 산정프로그램을 개발하였다. 또한 시공단계부터 탄성계수와 같은 역학적 정수를 이용함으로써 시공관리와 도로설계 및 도로관리의 개념적인 차이를 줄이고 추후 개발 및 실용화되어야 할 체계적인 다짐관리기법 개발을 위한 기초연구로서 노상토의 기초물성시험, 다짐시험과 더불어 삼축압축시험과 공진주시험 등을 실시하였다. 선정된 전체 7개 지역에 대하여 실내시험을 수행하였으며, 다짐시험은 다짐에너지별 특성을 파악하기 위하여 다섯 종류의 다짐에너지별로 시험을 수행하여 국내 7개 지역에 대한 실내시험(기초물성시험, 다짐시험)과, 역학적 시험(삼축. 공진주시험)에 대한 D/B를 구축하였다. AASHTO 기준의 구속압에 따른 공진주 시험결과 노상토의 변형률별 G/$G_{max}$의 회귀분석식을 제안하고, 구축된 실험결과 데이터베이스(DB)로부터 기본물성과 다짐도와의 상관관계를 도출하여 역학적 시험결과를 토대로 노상토의 역학적 특성인 탄성계수를 이용한 다짐 관리기법을 제안하였다.
