It is important to study how to manage dry storage casks of spent nuclear fuels (SNF), because wet storage spaces for SNF will shortly be at full capacity in the Republic of Korea. The US has operated a dry storage cask system for several decades, and has carried out significant studies into how to successfully manage dry storage cask for SNF. This type of expertise and experience is currently lacking in the Republic of Korea. The degradation of dry casks is an important issue that must be considered. In particular, chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking (CISCC) is known to lead to the release of radioisotopes from canisters. The U.S. Department of Energy, U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and the Electric Power Research Institute have undertaken research into the CISCC mechanism. In addition, Sandia National Laboratories (SNL) has extensively researched CISCC and how to manage it in dry storage canisters. In this review paper, the probabilistic model proposed by the SNL is analyzed and, based on this model, US-based CISCC research is reviewed in detail. This paper will inform the management of dry cask storage of SNF from light water reactors in austenite stainless steel canisters in the Republic of Korea.

Alkalinity is one of the basic variables, which determine geochemical characteristics of natural waters and participate in processes changing concentrations of various contaminants either directly or indirectly. However, not a few laboratories and researchers of Korea still use alkalinity-measurement methods not appropriate for groundwaters, and which becomes one of the major reasons for the poor ion balance errors of the geochemical analysis. This study was performed to review alkalinity-measurement methods, to discuss their advantages and disadvantages, and, thus, to help researchers and analytical specialists in analyzing alkalinity of groundwaters. The pH-titration-curve-inflection-point (PTC-IP) methods, which finds the alkalinity end point from the inflection point of the pH titration curve are revealed to be most accurate. Gran titration technique among them are likely to be most appropriate for accurate estimation of titrant volume to the end point. In contrast, other titration methods such as pH indicator method and pre-selected pH method, which are still commonly being used, are likely to cause erroneous results especially for groundwaters of low ionic strength and alkalinity.
Objectives : Carbon dioxide ($CO_2$) laser, a high power laser has been used for pain management, dermatology, and surgery and laser acupuncture and moxibustion as well, since it had been oscillated in 1964 at Bell Telephone Laboratories in the US. The purpose of this study is to investigate the history of $CO_2$ laser acupuncture through reviewing studies published in early stage of laser medicine. Methods : To investigate the early history of $CO_2$ laser acupuncture, studies were searched in the electronic databases, including PubMed, ScienceDirect, CNKI, Wanfang, J-STAGE, CiNii, KTNP, and OASIS, since 1964. Articles in English, Chinese, Japanese and Korean were included, and there were no limitations in literature types such as reviews, essays, clinical trials, animal experiments and veterinary research. Results : We found that the first $CO_2$ laser application to acupoints was done by a research team in Shanghai in 1976. They used $CO_2$ laser for acupuncture treatment and it was also the first laser acupuncture treatment in China. Since the first case report of $CO_2$ laser for leukopenia, it has been applied to various diseases in China, Korea, Japan and other western countries. It has been widely applied in the fields of dentistry and veterinary medicine, as well as clinical applications. Conclusions : Not only $CO_2$ laser can be used as laser acupuncture by stimulating the acupoints and meridians, but also can produce moxibustion effect by using heat stimulus. Therefore, it is expected that it will be used in various clinical fields in the future.
The purpose of this study is to provide policy recommendations for manpower planning by forecasting the supply and demand of Medical Technologists. Supply was estimated using an in-and-out movement method with a demographic method based on a baseline projection model. Demand was projected according to a demand-based method using the number of clinico-pathologic examinations taken for Medical Technologists. Over- or undersupply of Medical Technologists will depend on the productivity scenario and assumptions and ultimately on governmental policy direction. In other words, whether the production of Medical Technologists is higher or lower than the current level depends on the government policy to consider insurance finances. In this study, we assessed 'productivity scenario 3' based on the productivity as of 2012, when the government's policy direction was not considered. Based on the demand scenario using the ARIMA model, the supply of Medical Technologists is expected to be excessive. This oversupply accounts for less than 10% of the total and therefore should not be a big problem. However, given that the employment rate of Medical Technologists is 60%, it is necessary to consider policies to utilize the unemployed. These measures should expand the employment opportunities for the unemployed. To this end, it is necessary to strengthen the functions of laboratories in the public health center, to increase the quota of Medical Technologists, to assure their status, to establish a permanent inspection system for outpatient patients, and to expand the export of Medical Technologists overseas.
The platelet count in clinical laboratories is essential for the diagnosis and treatment of hemostasis abnormalities, and accurate platelet counting in the low count range is of prime importance for deciding if a platelet transfusion is needed and for monitoring after chemotherapy. Quality control is designed to reduce and correct any deficiencies in the internal analytical process of a clinical laboratory prior to the release of patient results. Fragmented erythrocytes are the major confusing factors for platelet counting because of their similar size to platelets. The authors found that the low range QC values were out of 2SD with a Sysmex automatic analyzer in internal quality control process. Thus far, there has been little discussion on the relationship between hemolysis and the platelet parameters. Therefore, this study focused on the performance of automated platelet counts, including the PLT-F, the PLT-I, and PLT-O methods at the low platelet range using the low level QC materials and compared the 5 platelet parameters with the hemolyzed samples. The results showed that the CV was the smallest with PLT-F and P-LCR increased from 18.4 to 31.9% in the hemolysis samples. These results indicate that a more accurate estimation of the platelet counts can be achieved using the PLT-F method than the PLT-I method at the low platelet range. The use of the PLT-F system improves the confidence of results in low platelets samples in a routine hematology laboratory. The results suggest that P-LCR is a new parameter in assessing samples when the specimen is suspected of hemolysis and deterioration. Nevertheless, further studies will be needed to establish the relationship with P-LCR and hemolysis using human blood specimens.

As the pollution of water resources deteriorates due to industrialization and urbanization, it is difficult to supply clean water through a water treatment method using chlorine. Therefore, the introduction of advanced water treatment facilities using ozone is on the increase. However, epoxy which is used as waterproofing and anticorrosives and stainless steel used in conventional waterproofing and anti-corrosive methods have deteriorated because of the strong oxidizing power of ozone, causing problems such as leaking. Moreover, it even causes the durability degradation of a concrete. Therefore, in this study, metal spraying system was used as the means of constructing a metal panel with excellent ozone resistance and chemical resistance which is an easier method than an existing construction method. Ozone resistance was evaluated in accordance with the type of metal sprayed coatings to develop a finishing method which can prevent the concrete structure of water treatment facilities from deterioration. Furthermore, electrochemical stability in actual sewage treatment plant environment was evaluated. Experimental results showed that Ti has superior ozone resistance after spraying and the electrochemical stability in the sewage treatment plant environment showed that Ti has the highest polarization resistance of $403.83k{\cdot}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm^2$, which ensures high levels of durability.

This study investigated the self-healing properties of blast furnace slag cement paste sample with $Na_2SO_4$ as a blast furnace slag activator after conducting the permeability test. Self-healing properties were examined by crack filling ratio and quantification of self-healing products. The degree of self-healing was evaluated by the crack filling ratio, and the crack filling ratio was analyzed by panoramic analysis using BSE-DIP for objectivity. The average crack filling ratio showed a tendency of decreasing from the upper part of the specimen to the lower part as the average of the top part was 18%, the middle part was 7% and the bottom part was 5% on average. The maximum crack filling ratio was 44% and the minimum crack filling ratio was 3%. The residual self-healing product after the permeability test contained a large amount of Ca element and Al element derived from the blast furnace slag, and the Si element was mainly present near the crack surface. The most abundant minerals in self-healing products were about 68% C-A-H. $CaCO_3$ was about 13% and C-A-S-H was about 8%. Three minerals accounted for 90% of self-healing products. C-A-H was mainly present at a part slightly distant from the crack surface and showed an angular or acicular shape. The C-A-S-H was generated on the surface naturally connected to the existing specimen, and the $CaCO_3$ was generally observed on the surface of the specimen or the inside of the crack.

EMP (Electromagnetic Pulse) usually means High Power Electromagnetic Wave (HPEM). In the case of the shielding plate against the EMP, there is a possibility of deterioration of the electromagnetic wave shielding performance due to the skill of the constructor, bad construction, deformation of the shielding plate at the connection portion (joint portion). The inefficient use of space due to the separation distance is also pointed out as a problem. Therefore, this study aims to derive the optimum electromagnetic shielding condition by applying ATMSM to concrete as a part of securing electromagnetic wave shielding performance with reflection loss against concrete wall. Experimental parameters included concrete wall thickness and application of Zn-Al ATMSM. For the concrete wall, the wall thickness was 100 to 300mm, which is generally applied, and experimental parameters were set for the application of Zn-Al metal spraying method to evaluate electromagnetic shielding performance. Experimental results showed that as the thickness increases, the electromagnetic shielding performance increases due to the increase of absorption loss. In addition, after the application of Zn-Al ATMSM, the average shielding performance increased by 56.68 dB on average, which is considered to be increased by the reflection loss of the ATMSM. In addition, it is considered that the shielding performance will be better than that when the conductive mixed material and the ATMSM are simultaneously applied.

Recently, as the internet is widespread rapidly among the public, people can use a variety of useful information services through the internet. Accordingly, the protection of information supplied by computer networks 5 has become a matter of primary concern on the whole world. To accede to the realistic demands, it has been worked out some countermeasures to cultivate the experts in information security by the government and many educational facilities. Already the government authority has carried out the each kinds of concerning projects under the framed a policy, Five-Year Development Plan for Information Security Technology. Also, many domestic universities perceives such an international trend, and so they frame their plans to train for the experts in this field, including to found a department with respect to the information security. They are ready to execute their tangible works, such as establishment of educational goal, development of teaching materials, planning curriculum, construction of laboratories and ensuring instructors. Moreover, such universities lead to their students who want to be information security experts to get the fundamental knowledge to lay the foundation for acquiring the information security technology in their bachelor course. In this note, we survey and analyze the curricula of newly-established or member-extended departments with respect to information security fields of some leading universities in the inside and outside of the country, and in conclusion, we propose the effective model of curriculum and educational goal to train the students for the information security experts.
Recently, the detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex (MTBC) in respiratory specimens has decreased, and nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) has increased. This study examined the increase in NTM lung disease patients and their age and sex distribution compared to the increase in NTM detection in 132,359 respiratory specimens examined in a Gwangju Secondary Hospital from 2010 to 2019. Furthermore, the prevalence of pulmonary tuberculosis infection in NTM positive patients was investigated. The positive rates of the mycobacterial culture were 21.9% (1,624/7,403) in 2010 and 17.4% (1,937/11,161) in 2019. The NTM recovery rate increased from 38.0% (617/1,624) in 2010 to 72.4% (1,403/1,937) in 2019. The average diagnosis rate of NTM lung disease in the NTM positive patients was 27.1%. Among them, cases of current pulmonary tuberculosis infection decreased from 44.9% in 2010 to 23.4% in 2019, and cases of previous diagnosis or treatment decreased from 15.8% to 10.7%. Of all NTM lung diseases, 69.0% were in their 60s or older, with more females than males. In the future, according to aging and tuberculosis management policies, NTM detection is expected to increase while MTBC decreases and laboratories must pay close attention to this phenomenon and constantly monitor the test results.
