  • Current trends in the Korean construction industry, including the aging of the workforce, a lack of new Korean construction workers, and an inflow of unskilled foreign labor, have caused a range of problems, including quality deterioration, reduced productivity, insufficient understanding of the function and difficulties in communication, to name a few. Yet while countermeasures to these problems should be based on accurate and diverse fundamental data, including the current status of demand and supply of domestic and foreign construction workers, the perception of construction workers, studies on these questions have, thus far, been scarce. For these reasons, this study was conducted using a questionnaire for managers and workers on construction sites, to secure fundamental data relating to construction workers. The findings of the survey showed that it is urgent to prepare measures to educate, train and foster human resources, considering the aging of the construction workforce and the lack of an inflow of new construction workers.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the causal relationship between factors affecting the quality of life (QOL) of call center representatives by applying the PRECEDE model to structural equation modeling. The subjects of the survey were 695 consultants engaged in inbound work at four call centers in D metropolitan city. Data collection was conducted using structured, self-administered questionnaires from November 15th to December 5th, 2016. The results of this study show that the QOL of the reps was significantly negatively correlated with mental health and emotional labor but significantly positively correlated with work environment, self-efficacy, organizational support, and organizational commitment. The results of structural model analysis show that mental health had a negative influence on QOL, whereas work environment and self-efficacy had a positive influence. In addition, emotional labor had a negative effect on mental health, but organizational commitment and work environment had lowered emotional labor level. In addition, organizational support had enhanced employee self-efficacy and organizational commitment, and organizational commitment had mitigated emotional labor. Therefore, it is necessary to implement a health promotion program to improve the QOL of call center reps.

First, the primary operating direction of the goal, talent selection system, and personnel management personnel management affected almost all the performance variables. More than one primary goal of personnel management in the loyalty inspired workers more than the fixed labor costs, and external recruitment of short-term hiring favored internal training scheme for long-term employment, employee training, and development in the long term more than short-term performance improvement the more weight to quality and innovation in the productivity of labor, product and services, employee-driven innovation, reduce turnover, had a positive impact on labor relations. On the other hand, the primary goal of personnel management and personnel selection methods had a positive impact on financial performance. Personnel management operating direction did not significantly affect the financial results. Second, the main type of employee utilization affected the quality of products and services, and labor relations. Trying to take advantage of temporary workers more than regular workers had a positive impact on the quality of products and services, and labor relations. Third, the operating unit of Personnel Management had an impact on the degree of innovation of products and services. Both personal achievements and the performance of the operating units had a positive impact on the degree of innovation of products and services, more than teamwork and personnel management. This study provided practical implications for verifying the effect of detailed characteristics of human resource management on financial/non-financial business performance.

  • The productivity of a hospital foodservice system has a significant implication in hospital management as costs for labor and material increase, competitions among hospitals increase, and patients' expectations as to the quality of hospital services increase. The foodservice is characterized by its labor intensiveness. The objective of this study was to examine associations between operational and managerial factors and the productivity of dishwashing work in hospital foodservice systems. The labor productivity in 20 conventional food service systems was assessed and related to a number of influencing variables within the system. The productivity measurement was based upon the total dish equivalents as a ratio of the total direct and non-direct labor hours required to wash these dishes. 20 hospitals with more than 500 beds located in Seoul were surveyed to obtain data for study variables. Questionnaire and a survey form were mailed. Statistical methods used in this study were descriptive analysis and Pearson product moment correlation analysis. Hospital system characteristic which was found to correlate significantly with productivity was the ratio of dish loss. As this increased, the productivity level increased.

  • Government statistics have been treated the most reliable data sources in Korea. In the last 20 years, the numbers and scopes of the government statistics have been expended rapidly. Although government statistics have been widely used in many researches, research methods used in collecting government statistics have not been discussed often. In 1998, we reviewed the survey questionnaire, data collecting methods and procedures of one government statistics, the Labor Demand Survey. Based on the pilot study, we also proposed several survey methods for the quality improvement of the survey. The Ministry of Labor had adopted some suggestions in 1999 survey. This paper introduces the ways in which we investigated the Labor Demand Survey,, detected the problems and issues in the survey, suggestions for the improvement of the survey, and several survey methods adopted by the Ministry of Labor. However, the effects of the new measures are not included in this paper, and will be studied in the near future when the data become available.

  • The changes in korean economic environment, from quantitative to qualitative growth of economy, go with making desperate efforts, that is, companies have put through many technical improvements, quality control, improvement of service, and so forth. Enterprises cut the number of employees through labor-management adjustment, so that a shortage of labor caused. An increase in intension of labor brought about growing the proportion of occupational diseases which is musculoskeletal diseases. Because of a rapid change in society and a change in our circumstances, we have many difficulties in examine a business disease closely. In support corroboration of relevance on admission of business, a criterion for dudging afford a basis for a causal relationship of medical science, take the state of working conditions into consideration, and at the same time, give a adaptable decision based on the purpose and point of "The Labor Standard Law" as well as "The Law about Industrial Accident Compensation insurance". In conclusion, it is necessary for the dental hygienists 10 reduce the on-duty hours a day, to make good postures in working, and to remove the stressful conditions in order to reduce the incidence of the lumbago. • Purpose: This study aimed to summarize the current evidence on the effects of nonpharmacological interventions on psychological health outcomes for women with high-risk pregnancies due to conditions such as preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, or preterm labor. Methods: The following databases were searched from January 2000 to December 2020: PubMed, Ovid Embase, CINAHL, Web of Science, DBpia, RISS, and KISS. Two investigators independently reviewed and selected articles according to the inclusion/exclusion criteria. RoB 2 and the ROBINS-I checklist were used to evaluate study quality. Results: Twenty-nine studies with a combined total of 1,806 pregnant women were included in the systematic review and meta-analysis. Psychological health improvements were found in women with preeclampsia (Hedges' g=-0.67; 95% confidence interval [CI], -0.91 to -0.44), gestational diabetes (Hedges' g=-0.38; 95% CI, -0.54 to -0.12), and preterm labor (Hedges' g=-0.73; 95% CI, -1.00 to -0.46). The funnel plot was slightly asymmetrical, but the fail-safe N value and the trim-and-fill method showed no publication bias. Conclusion: Nonpharmacological interventions for women with high-risk pregnancies due to conditions such as preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, and preterm labor can improve psychological parameters such as anxiety, stress, and depression. Nurses can play a pivotal role in the nursing management of pregnant women with high-risk conditions and apply various types of nonpharmacological interventions to meet their needs in uncertain and anxious times during pregnancy.

  • Purpose - This study analyzed the determinants of local unemployment rate in Korea using panel data from 16 metropolitan cities and provinces from 2000 to 2018. Design/methodology/approach - We use a dynamic spatial panel model that considers characteristics of the regional unemployment rate such as the common factors effect, spatial dependence, and serial correlations. Findings - The local unemployment rate is affected by the past and present values of the national unemployment rate. And it is significantly affected by the past local unemployment rate and the past neighboring unemployment rate because spatial dependence and serial correlations are clearly present. In addition, when the industrial structure diversity and labor productivity were high, the regional unemployment rate decreased, and when the education level was high, the regional unemployment rate increased. Research implications or Originality - In order to reduce regional unemployment rate, it is necessary to plan and establish regional customized industrial structure policies under the stance of diversification rather than specializing the regional industrial structure and accompany improvement of the quality of education with the number of years of education. In addition, the redistribution of labor from low labor productivity sectors to high labor productivity sectors through technology development will help to reduce the local unemployment rate.
