비달 사순(Vidal Sassoon) 헤어디자인의 조형적(造形的) 특성(特性) 연구(硏究) (A Study on the Formative Characteristics of the Vidal Sassoon's Hair Design)

  • The purpose of this study is to review the innovation of Vidal Sassoon's hair design. His hair styling was created in 1950-60, and it was related to the Zeitgeist, 'Convulsion'. It was aesthetic reform that eliminated artificially of headdress through new design concept and high technique. It was social renovation that changed women's life through freedom, ease and mobility of hair form. Also, it was scientific innovation that emphasized improvement of hair care. Therefore this researcher set a high value on his contribution in beauty industry, and studied the formative characteristics of his hair styling. The results are as follows: The formative characteristics are classified into the simplicity of form, the mobility of construction, and the variety of color and texture. 1. The simplicity of form showed through geometric form. Vidal Sassoon's hair design had the overthrow traditional concept of femininity and beauty; in addition, it conferred freedom on not only hair itself but also women's action. 2. The naturalism and mobility of construction was found in layered and softly swinging hair made up by skillful cutting technique. It was developed by studying on the dynamism of sports in 1984 LA Olympic games. 3. The variety of color and texture showed conspicuously its visual evidence because of the simplicity of form. Especially, he borrowed factors of fine art, that is to say, form, space, texture, line, color and light, and created a performance art. His work is analyzed into an art, and he is one of the best artists.

Association among stress, salivary cortisol levels, and chronic periodontitis

  • Purpose: Chronic periodontitis (CP) seems to be associated with stress and depression, but little information on this possible association is available in the literature. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate the association among stress, the salivary cortisol level (SCL), and CP. Methods: Seventy systemically healthy subjects were included in the study from January to September 2011. Full medical and dental histories were obtained, and the following measurements were recorded: 1) probing depth; 2) clinical attachment level; 3) bleeding on probing; and 4) tooth mobility. Saliva samples were collected for the evaluation of SCL (via a highly sensitive electrochemiluminescence immunoassay), and all subjects also answered a questionnaire (i.e., the Zung Self-rating Depression Scale). The odds ratio (OR) with a 95% confidence interval (CI) was calculated, and one way analysis of variance and the Tukey-Kramer method were performed. Results: A total of 36 subjects with CP (51.4%) and 34 without CP were evaluated. Of them, all of the subjects with CP and one periodontally healthy subject were diagnosed with depression. Subjects with moderate CP had statistically significantly higher levels of SCL than subjects with a diagnosis of slight CP (P=0.006). Also, subjects with severe CP showed the same outcome when compared to those with slight CP (P=0.012). In addition, 46 subjects presented high SCL whereas 24 had a normal level. CP was found to be correlated with the SCL, with an OR of 4.14 (95% CI, 1.43 to 12.01). Conclusions: Subjects with a high SCL and depression may show an increased risk for CP.

후막 SmBCO/IBAD-MgO 초전도 박막선재의 제조 (Fabrication of Thick SmBCO/IBAD-MgO coated conductor)

  • Coated conductor is required to have good critical current property for high efficiency of electric power applications. Until now, long coated conductor does not show high Jc over 3 MA/$cm^2$ in thick superconducting layer because of texture degradation by thick superconducting layer. In this study, in order to overcome this issue, thicker superconducting layer was deposited with optimized conditions to reduce the degradation of critical current density. SmBCO superconducting coated conductor was deposited with 1~3 um of thickness at $750\sim850^{\circ}C$ under 15~20 mTorr of oxygen partial pressure using batch type EDDC( evaporation using drum in dual chamber). The buffered substrate for superconducting layer deposition was used IBAD-MgO template with the architecture of $LaMnO_3/MgO/Y_2O_3/Al_2O_3$/Hastelloy. After fabrication of coated conductor, critical current was measured by 4-prove method under self-magnetic field and 77K. In addition, surface morphology and texture were analyzed by SEM and XRD, respectively. 3 um thick SmBCO coated conductor shows highest $I_C$ values of 638A/cm-w in 1 m long in the world.

Design of Monitoring System based on IoT sensor for Health Management of an Elderly Alone

  • 본 논문에서는 사회 소외계층인 독거노인가구를 대상으로 IoT 기기를 통한 다양한 PHR 생체신호와 환경정보을 수집하고 수집된 정보를 바탕으로 건강상태를 모니터링하는 시스템을 제안한다. 이와 함께, IoT 센서에서 수집된 정보와 PHR기반의 DB서버의 데이터 분석을 통한 예측능력을 강화하여 고독사 상황을 파악할 수 있는 기본 인프라 구축과 예방 프로그램을 이행하는 것을 목표로 하고 있다. 센서는 환경 정보 수집 센서와 생체 신호 수집을 위한 비접촉 및 웨어러블 센서로 구성되며 수집된 데이터를 서버로 전송하기 위해 게이트웨이가 요구된다. 본 논문에서는 게이트웨이의 프로토타입을 제시한다. 논문은 의료복지서비스의 확대를 위한 정책적 과제의 논의적 목적을 가지고 있다. 본 연구의 결과물은 사회 소외 계층에 대한 서비스 확대와 국민의 의료환경개선에 도움이 될 것으로 사료된다.

The psychopharmacological activities of Vietnamese ginseng in mice: characterization of its psychomotor, sedative-hypnotic, antistress, anxiolytic, and cognitive effects

  • Background: Panax vietnamensis Ha et Grushv. or Vietnamese ginseng (VG) is a recently discovered ginseng species. Studies on its chemical constituents have shown that VG is remarkably rich in ginseng saponins, particularly ocotillol saponins. However, the psychopharmacological effects of VG have not been characterized. Thus, in the present study we screened the psychopharmacological activities of VG in mice. Methods: VG extract (VGE) was orally administered to mice at various dosages to evaluate its psychomotor (open-field and rota-rod tests), sedative-hypnotic (pentobarbital-induced sleeping test), anti-stress (cold swimming test), anxiolytic (elevated plus-maze test), and cognitive (Y-maze and passive-avoidance tests) effects. Results: VGE treatment increased the spontaneous locomotor activity, enhanced the endurance to stress, reduced the anxiety-like behavior, and ameliorated the scopolamine-induced memory impairments in mice. In addition, VGE treatment did not alter the motor balance and coordination of mice and did not potentiate pentobarbital-induced sleep, indicating that VGE has no sedative-hypnotic effects. The effects of VGE were comparable to those of the Korean Red Ginseng extract. Conclusion: VG, like other ginseng products, has significant and potentially useful psychopharmacological effects. This includes, but is not limited to, psychomotor stimulation, anxiolytic, antistress, and memory enhancing effects.

금속수소화물 기반 수소저장시스템의 열관리 인자 조사 (Investigation of Thermal Management Parameters of Metal Hydride Based Hydrogen Storage System)

  • Metal hydride based hydrogen storage under moderate temperature and pressure gives the safety advantage over the gas and liquid storage methods. Still solid-state hydrogen storage including metal hydride is below the DOE target level for automotive applications, but it can be adapted to stationary or miliary application reasonably. In order to develop a modular solid state hydrogen storage system that can be applied to a distributed power supply system composed of renewable energy - water electrolysis - fuel cell, the heat transfer and hydrogen storage characteristics of the metal hydride necessary for the module system design were investigated using AB5 type metal hydride, LCN2 ($La_{0.9}Ce_{0.1}Ni_5$). The planetary high energy mill (PHEM) treatment of LCN2 confirmed the initial hydrogen storage activation and hydrogen storage capacity through surface modification of LCN2 material. Expanded natural graphite (ENG) addition to LCN2, and compression molding at 500 atm improved the thermal conductivity of the solid hydrogen storage material.

Fabrication and Characterization of MFIS-FET using Au/SBT/LZO/Si structure

  • Non-volatile memories using ferroelectric-gate field-effect transistors (Fe-FETs) with a metal/ferroelectric/semiconductor gate stack (MFS-FETs) make non-destructive read operation possible. In addition, they also have features such as high switching speed, non-volatility, radiation tolerance, and high density. However, the interface reaction between ferroelectric materials and Si substrates, i.e. generation of mobile ions and short retention, make it difficult to obtain a good ferroelectric/Si interface in an MFS-FET's gate. To overcome these difficulties, Fe-FETs with a metal/ferroelectric/insulator/semiconductor gate stack (MFIS-FETs) have been proposed, where insulator as a buffer layer is inserted between ferroelectric materials and Si substrates. We prepared $SrBi_2Ta_2O_9$ (SBT) film as a ferroelectric layer and $LaZrO_x$ (LZO) film as a buffer layer on p-type (100) silicon wafer for making the MFIS-FET devices. For definition of source and drain region, phosphosilicate glass (PSG) thin film was used as a doping source of phosphorus (P). Ultimately, the n-channel ferroelectric-gate FET using the SBT/LZO/Si Structure is fabricated. To examine the ferroelectric effect of the fabricated Fe-FETs, drain current ($I_d$) versus gate voltage ($V_g$) characteristics in logarithmic scale was measured. Also, drain current ($I_d$) versus drain voltage ($V_d$) characteristics of the fabricated SBT/LZO/Si MFIS-FETs was measured according to the gate voltage variation.

친핵치환반응에 미치는 용매효과 (제1보) 메탄올-아세토니트릴 혼합용매에서 t-Butylbromide 및 Benzoylchloride 의 가메탄올 분해반응 (Effects of Medium on Nucleophilic Substitution Reactions (I). Methanolysis of t-Butylbromide and Benzoylchloride in Methanol-Acetonitrile Mixtures)

  • t-Butylbromide와 benzoylchloride의 가메탄올 분해반응을 메탄올-아세토니트릴 혼합용매하에서 연구하였다. t-Butylbromide의 가메탄올 분해반응 일차속도상수는 온도 변화가 25∼$50^{\circ}C$일때 메탄올의 몰분율 0.75∼0.9 부근에서 최대치를 보였다. Benzoylchloride의 경우에는 겉보기 2차 반응속도 상수가 온도 변화 12∼$26{\circ}C$일때 메탄올의 몰분율 0.6∼0.75에서 역시 최대치를 보였다. 최대속도는 용매구조 변화에 기인함을 알았는데 메탄올에 아세토니트릴이 첨가됨에 따라 자유 메탄올 분자가 증가하여 t-butylbromide 및 benzoylchloride의 가메탄올 분해반응에서 천이상태의 안정화에 기여함을 알았다. 메탄올은 t-butylbromide의 가메탄올 분해반응의 경우 친전자 및 친핵 촉매작용을, benzoylchloride의 가메탄올 분해반응의 경우에는 친전자 촉매작용을 함을 알았다.

열처리에 의한 황금(Scutellaria baicalensis) 추출물의 생리활성 변화 (Changes in Physiological Activities of Scutellariae baicalensis by Heating)

  • 황금에 대한 수 추출물의 열 변환에 의한 생리활성 변화를 보기 위하여 HPLC를 통한 peak분석과 기능성 평가를 하였다. 열처리 전의 시료 (CW)와 열처리 후의 시료 (CHW)간의 peak분석에서 CW와 CHW의 비교 시 A와 B가 없어지고 열처리 후에 C라는 다른 물질의 peak가 형성됨을 알 수 있었다. 또한, 전체적인 기능성 평가에서 항산화성에서는 CW와 CHW 별 차이가 없었고, 항고혈압 활성은 CW가 높았다. 항암성에 있어서 폐암에서는 CW가 높았고, 위암, 간암, 후두암 등에는 CHW가 높게 나왔다. 그리고, 멜라닌 생성세포의 멜라닌 생성 억제는 CHW에서 약 80%로 매우 높게 나타났다. 결론적으로 열처리를 통한 시료 내 구성성분의 변환이 기능성 차이를 보여주며, 이는 새로운 열 변환 물질의 생성 때문으로 판단된다. 이들 변화된 물질은 황금의 주성분인 Baicalin 외의 물질이 열 변환 된 것으로, 생성된 물질에 대한 구조분석이 필요한 것으로 사료된다.

"A La Recherche" of Functions for the Spore Protein SASP-E from Bacillus subtilis

  • We previously observed that Bacillus subtilis spores from sspE mutants presented a lower germination capacity in media containing high salt concentrations (0.9M NaCl). This deficiency was attributed to the absence of SASP-E (gamma-type small-acid-soluble protein), rich in osmocompatible amino acids released by degradation. Herein we observed that, in addition, this mutant spore presented a reduced capacity to use L-alanine as germinant (L-ala pathway), required longer times to germinate in calcium dipicolinate ($Ca^{2+}$-DPA), but germinated well in asparagine, glucose, fructose, and potassium chloride (AGFK pathway). Moreover, mild sonic treatment of mutant spores partially recovered their germination capacity in L-ala. Spore qualities were also altered, since sporulating colonies from the sspE mutant showed a pale brownish color, a higher adherence to agar plates, and lower autofluorescence, properties related to their spore coat content. Furthermore, biochemical analysis showed a reduced partition in hexadecane and a higher content of $Ca^{2+}$-DPA when compared with its isogenic wild-type control. Coat protein preparations showed a different electrophoretic pattern, in particular when detected with antibodies against CotG and CotE. The complementation with a wild-type sspE gene in a plasmid allowed for recovering the wild-type coat phenotype. This is the first report of a direct involvement of SASP-E in the spore coat assembly during the differentiation program of sporulation.
