In the Republic of Korea, the LTE-based public safety (PS-LTE) network is being built for the 700 MHz frequency band. However, the same bands are also assigned to the LTE-based high-speed railway (LTE-R) network. Therefore, it is essential to utilize the co-channel interference management schemes for the coexistence of two LTE networks in order to increase the system throughput and to reduce the user outage probability. In this paper, we focus on the downlink (DL) system for the coexistence of PS-LTE and LTE-R networks by considering non radio access network (RAN) sharing and LTE-R RAN sharing by PS-LTE users (UEs) to analyze the UE throughput. Moreover, we also utilize the cooperative communications schemes, such as coordinated multipoint (CoMP) for the coexistence of PS-LTE and LTE-R networks in order to reduce the UE outage probability. We categorize the coexistence of PS-LTE and LTE-R networks into four different scenarios, and evaluate the performance of each scenario by the important performance indexes, such as UE average throughput and UE outage probability.

A multi-band low noise amplifier (LNA) is designed in 90 nm RF CMOS process for 3GPP LTE (3rd Generation Partner Project Long Term Evolution) applications. The designed multi-band LNA covers the eight frequency bands between 1.85 and 2.8 GHz. A tunable input matching circuit is realized by adopting a switched capacitor array at the LNA input stage for providing optimum performances across the wide operating band. Current steering technique is adopted for the gain control in three steps. The performances of the LNA are verified through post-layout simulations (PLS). The LNA consumes 17 mA at 1.2 V supply voltage. It shows a power gain of 26 at the normal gain mode, and provides much lower gains of 0 and -6.7 in the bypass-I and -II modes, respectively. It achieves a noise figure of 1.78 dB and a IIP3 of -12.8 dBm over the entire band.

This paper presents a Doherty power amplifier(DPA) operating in the 2.6 GHz band for long term evolution(LTE) systems. In order to achieve high efficiency, second and third harmonic impedances are controlled using a compact output matching network. The DPA was implemented using a gallium nitride high electron mobility transistor(GaN-HEMT) that has many advantages, such as high power density and high efficiency. The implemented DPA was measured using an LTE downlink signal with a 10 MHz bandwidth and 6.5 dB PAPR. The implemented DPA exhibited a gain of 13.1 dB, a power-added efficiency(PAE) of 57.6 %, and an ACLR of -25.7 dBc at an average output power of 33.4 dBm.

Coordinated Multi-Point (CoMP) is considered as a technology in the 3rd Generation Partnership Project(3GPP) Long Term Evolution-Advanced (LTE-A) system. In this paper, we design and analyze the performance of the Coordinated Beamforming (CB) technique, which is one major category of CoMP. We perform Monte Carlo simulations with a Heterogeneous Network (HetNet) in LTE-A, and confirm the performance through a graph of the Cumulative Distribution Function (CDF). From the simulation results, we show significant performance gain with the CoMP technique, and better performance when we apply various schemes of scheduling and precoding.

Recently, femtocell has been concerned as one of effective solutions to relieve shadow region and provide high quality services to users in indoor environments. Even though femtocell offers various benefits to cellular operators and users, many technical issues, such as interference coordination, network synchronization, self-configuration, self-optimization, and so on, should be solved to deploy the femtocell in current network. In this paper, we develop a simulator for evaluating performance of long term evolution (LTE) femtocell systems under various interference scenarios. The simulator consists of a main-module and five sub-modules. The main-module connects and manages five sub-modules which have the functionality managing user mobility, packet scheduling, call admission control, traffic generation, and modulation and coding scheme (MCS). To provide user convenience, the simulator adopts graphical user interface (GUI) which can observes simulation results in real time. We expect that this simulator can contribute to developing effective femtocell systems by supporting a tool for analyzing the effect of interference between macrocell and femtocell.
Decode-and-forward relaying is a promising enhancement to existing radio access networks and is already standardized in 3rd generation partnership project (3GPP) as a part of long term evolution (LTE)-Advanced Release 10. Two inband operation modes of relay nodes are supported, namely type 1 and type lb. Relay nodes promise to offer considerable gain for system capacity or coverage, depending on the deployment prioritization, in a cost-efficient way. Yet, in order to fully exploit the benefits of relaying, the inter-cell interference which is increased due to the presence of relay nodes should be limited. Moreover, large differences in the received power levels from different users should be avoided. The goal is to keep the receiver dynamic range low in order to retain the orthogonality of the single carrier-frequency division multiple access system. In this paper, an evaluation of the relay based heterogeneous deployment within the LTE-Advanced uplink framework is carried out by applying the standardized LTE Release 8 power control scheme both at evolved node B and relay nodes. In order to enhance the overall system performance, different power control optimization strategies are proposed for 3GPP urban and suburban scenarios. A comparison between type 1 and type 1b relay nodes is as well presented to study the effect of the relaying overhead on the system performance in inband relay deployments. Comprehensive system level simulations show that the power control is a crucial means to increase the cell edge and system capacities, to mitigate inter-cell interference and to adjust the receiver dynamic range for both relay node types.

In this paper, we considered the scenario that one cellular link and muti-D2D links share the same frequency resource which can improve the spectrum efficiency during uplink communication in LTE (Long Term Evolution)-Advanced network. In order to reduce the interference caused to the D2D users, we set DME (Discovery and Management Entity) which can send the area information to eNB(evolved Node B). We proposed a resource allocation scheme by using these assistant devices to reduce the interference that CUE (Cellular User Equipment) causes to DUE Rx (D2D UE Receiver). Basing on the area information, in order to mitigate the interference among the D2D pairs which share the same frequency resource, a power control scheme has been proposed. The simulation results prove that by using the DMEs, the proposed schemes improve the stability of D2D communication and bring the highest performance of the communication system when comparing to the other different schemes.
We developed a surveillance tool for collision avoidance of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in urban areas. In our tool, users can visualize the safety distance on the actual 3D map of urban area. The estimated positions of UAVs are assumed to be obtained based on the long-term evolution (LTE) signals. The safety distance is defined to include two or more signals with bias. The safety distance calculation method used in this paper enables simulation similar to the actual urban areas where signals are frequently biased due to multipath. In the simulation, the parameters were set based on the measured values, and the change of the safety distance according to the number of faulty signals was simulated. As a result, increasing the number of faulty signals led to a longer safety distance as expected.
