Cold-formed steel wall panels sheathed with gypsum plasterboard have shown superior thermal and structural performance in fire. Recent damage caused by fire events in Australia has increased the need for accurate fire resistance ratings of wall systems used in low- and mid-rise construction. Past fire research has mostly focused on light gauge steel framed (LSF) walls under uniform axial compression and LSF floors under pure bending. However, in reality, LSF wall studs may be subject to both compression and bending actions due to eccentric loading at the wall to-roof or wall-to-floor connections. In order to investigate the fire resistance of LSF walls under the effects of these loading eccentricities, four full-scale standard fire tests were conducted on 3 m × 3 m LSF wall specimens lined with two 16 mm gypsum plasterboards under different combinations of axial compression and lateral load ratios. The findings show that the loading eccentricity can adversely affect the fire resistance level of the LSF wall depending on the magnitude of the eccentricity, the resultant compressive stresses in the hot and cold flanges of the wall studs caused by combined loading and the temperatures of the hot and cold flanges of the studs. Structural fire designers should consider the effects of loading eccentricity in the design of LSF walls to eliminate their potential failures in fire.
In this paper, we designed an LSF coefficient quantizer of the wideband speech codec that can produce high quality speech service. For the efficient LSF coefficient quantizer, the interframe correlation was used. Also we separately quantized the LSF coefficients with high and low interframe correlation. Predictive pyramid vector quantizer (PVQ) was used for quantizing the LSF coefficients with high interframe correlation, and PVQ was used for quantizing the LSF coefficients with low interframe correlation. Experiments show that the proposed UF quantizer can quantize LSF information in 40 bits/frame, with an average spectral distortion (SD) of 1 dB and less than 3.87% frames having SD greater than 2 dB.
In this paper the experiments of breakdown characteristics SF6 liquid ($LSF_6$) in model GIS(Gas Insulated Switchgear) were described. From the experiments results, The ability of $LSF_6$ insulation is higher than high-pressurized SF6 gas. The breakdown characteristics of $LSF_6$ were produced by bubble formed evaporation of $LSF_6$ and bubble caused by high electric emission. It is considered in this paper that the results are fundamental data for electric insulation design of superconductor and cryogenic equipments machinery which will be studied and developed in the future.

ROK Navy Landing Ship Fast(LSF-II) is equipped with special equipment that is not compatible with other combat ships due to special missions. So there are almost no maintenance capabilities except for simple repair parts replacement and maintenance parts. The researcher determined that the way to solve these problems was to apply Performance Based Logistics (PBL), and reviewed the cases of PBL applications abroad and domestically. To confirm the current maintenance capability, we visited LSF-II operation unit to identify maintenance capabilities for each mounted equipment, and interviews with operators and maintenance practitioners confirmed the limitations of outsourcing maintenance and the need to apply PBL. In order to analyze the effect of PBL application, the measure of effectiveness and measure of performance were selected based on the opinions of LSF-II operation/maintenance practitioners and PBL experts and the practical experience of this researcher. A survey was conducted on operation/maintenance practitioners and professional personnel. Based on the survey results, the effect of applying PBL was analyzed using the AHP technique, and an efficient PBL application plan was proposed for LSF-II.

LSF(Line Spectral Frequency) derived from LPC has known as a very useful transmission parameter of speech signals, for it has a good linear interpolation characteristics and a low spectrum distortion at low bit rates coding. This paper presents that it is possible to extract directly the formant frequencies of speech signals from LSF parameter without application of FFT algorithm by comparing the distribution of LSF parameter with the frequency distribution of analysis filter. This paper suggests the advanced algorithm that results in improving the speed of convergence at analytic solution method. Also, for the flexibility of parameters, the process that transforms from LSF to LPC is presented.

Silk protein and agarose are widely known as biocompatible materials in the human body. A three-dimensional (3D) scaffold composed of agarose and low-molecular- weight silk fibroin (LSF) was fabricated and examined in terms of structural characteristics and cellular responses in bone tissue engineering. This study showed that mouse pluripotent precursor cells attached to and proliferated uniformly on and within the LSF-containing 3D scaffold. Interestingly, cell proliferation and attachment was shown to be higher in a 3D scaffold containing 0.02% LSF, as compared to other LSF concentrations. The results of this study suggest that agarose-LSF scaffolds may be useful materials for tissue engineering.

Media-specific FEC techniques, suggested to confront with VoIP speech packet loss, improve speech quality at the expense of generating additional one-frame delay. In this paper, we suggest new media-specific FEC, i.e, LSF FEC technique which is able to improve speech quality with much shortened additional delay. In the proposed technique, the LSF parameters of the future frame are utilized to recover a lost packet. To evaluate performance of the proposed technique, we use ITU-T G.723.1 and G.729 Codec and apply Gilbert packet loss model and estimate MOS per every packet loss rate using PESQ speech quality estimation algorithm. The proposed technique has effect of shortening delay over from 6.5ms to 27ms compared with existing media-specific FEC techniques. Simulation results for comparison of reconstructed speech quality show this novel technique improves the MOS over 0.1 in practical lossy environment of 5 % packet loss rate.
$SF_6$ gas has been used as arc quenching and insulating medium for high and extra high voltage switching devices due to its high dielectric strength, its excellent arc-quenching capabilities, its high chemical stability and non toxicity. Despite of its significant contributions, the gas was classified as one of the greenhouse gas in the Kyoto Protocol. Thus, many researches are conducted to find out the replacement materials and to develop the $SF_6$ gas useless electrical equipment. This paper describes experiments on the temperature change-related breakdown characteristics of $SF_6$ gas ($SF_6$) and $SF_6$ liquid ($LSF_6$) in a model GIS(Gas-Insulated Switchgear) chamber in order to show the possibility of more stable and safe usages of $SF_6$ gas. The breakdown characteristics are classified into three stages, namely the gas stage of $SF_6$ according to Paschen's law, the coexisting stage of $SF_6$ gas with liquid in considerable deviation at lower temperature, and the stage of $LSF_6$ and remaining air. The result shows that the ability of the $LSF_6$ insulation is higher than the high-pressurized $SF_6$. Moreover, it reveals that the breakdown characteristics of $LSF_6$ are produced by bubble-formed $LSF_6$ evaporation and bubbles caused by high electric emission and the corona. In addition, the property of dielectric breakdown of $LSF_6$ is determined by electrode form, electrode arrangement, bubble formation and movement, arc extinguishing capacity of the media, difficulty in corona formation, and the distance between electrodes. The bubble formation and flow separation phenomena were identified for $LSF_6$. It provides fundamental data not only for $SF_6$ gas useless equipment but also for electric insulation design of high-temperature superconductor and cryogenic equipment machinery, which will be developed in future studies.
For speech coding, a vocal tract is modeled using Linear Predictive Coding (LPC) coefficients. The LPC coefficients are typically transformed to Line Spectral Frequency (LSF) parameters which are advantageous for linear interpolation and quantization. If multidimensional LSF data are quantized directly using Vector-Quantization (VQ), high rate-distortion performance can be obtained by fully utilizing intra-frame correlation. In practice, since this direct VQ system cannot be used due to high computational complexity and memory requirement, Split VQ (SVQ) is used where a multidimensional vector is split into multilple sub-vectors for quantization. The LSF parameters also have high inter-frame correlation, and thus Predictive SVQ (PSVQ) is utilized. PSVQ provides better rate-distortion performance than SVQ. In this paper, to implement the optimal predictors in PSVQ for voice storage devices, we propose Multi-Frame AR-model based SVQ (MF-AR-SVQ) that considers the inter-frame correlations with multiple previous frames. Compared with conventional PSVQ, the proposed MF-AR-SVQ provides 1 bit gain in terms of spectral distortion without significant increase in complexity and memory requirement.
