  • The complex battlefield environment makes it difficult to intercept maneuvering targets for guided missiles. In this paper, a finite-time convergent (FTC) guidance law based on the second-order sliding mode (SOSM) control theory is proposed to achieve the requirements of stability, accuracy and robustness. More specifically, a second-order sliding mode observer (SMOB) is used to estimate and compensate for the total disturbance of the controlled system, while the target acceleration is extracted from the line-of-sight (LOS) angle measurement. The proposed guidance law can drive the LOS angular rate converge to zero in a finite time, which means that the missile will accurately intercept the target. Numerical simulations with some comparisons are performed to demonstrate the superiority of the proposed guidance law.

  • This paper represents a method for designing of path following Line-of-Sight(LOS) guidance law based on vehicle kinematics. In general, a LOS guidance law which is composed of gains and approach length as design parameters is designed by empirical or trial-and-error method. These approaches cannot guarantee a precision tracking performance of guidance law consistently. Also, the design parameters should be redesigned with variations of vehicle maneuverability and flight velocity. Based on a vehicle kinematics with its velocity, the proposed method for designing of parameters not only minimizes the number of design parameters, also has a reliable and consistent tracking performance using variable guidance gain changed in accordance with flight velocity. This is validated by nonlinear simulation with $1^{st}$ order attitude response dynamics and flight experiments with given linear and circular path.

  • This asymed drone controller is indispensable for two components: Guidance and Controller. In which the Ministry of Guidance will receive waypoints from which to form an orbit then combine the data with the current location of the vessel, thereby calculating and also supplying the controller to drive the vehicle to follow the outlined trajectory. This article will use the Line Of Sight (LOS) algorithm to design the Guidance and Controller sets. The result as well as the effectiveness of the controller will be shown through matlab/SIMULINK simulation.

  • In this paper, a horizontal LOS(line of sight) rate estimator for conventional sea skimming ASM(anti-ship missile) is proposed. A LOS rate dynamics model for a 2-axis gimbal system and the homing geometry is derived. A new LOS rate estimator is proposed by applying the Kalman filter theory to the LOS rate dynamics model. The proposed filter estimates LOS rates by taking roll motions into account. Simulation results show that the proposed filter produces smaller estimation errors than a conventional method.

  • This paper provides the target observability analysis of time-to-go polynomial guidance law with bearing-only measurement. In this study, a direct approach is used to analyze the target observability. Since the observability condition of a constant-velocity target is given by the function of LOS angle only, the target observability characteristic is determined by substituting the closed form solution of LOS angle to the observability condition directly. The analysis results show that the target observability is depended on the choice of guidance gain, initial intercept condition and guidance command shape. After that this mathematical analysis result is evaluated and demonstrated by number of simulation.

  • An approximate target adaptive guidance algorithm(TAG) is proposed on the basis of the assumption that angular acceleration of missile to target line-of-sight and start time for TAG can be obtained by IR seeker. The algorithm does not use any target state estimator. Instead, it avoids the problem of determining target attitude by using the observation that the missile using LOS rate guidance is nearly on the collision course in the later point of engagement. Computer simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can effectively perform target adaptive guidance.

  • We propose a novel cooperative guidance law design method based on the finite time disturbance observer (FTDO) for multiple near space interceptors (NSIs) with impact time control. Initially, we construct a cooperative guidance model with head pursuit, and employ the FTDO to estimate the system disturbance caused by target maneuvering. We subsequently separate the cooperative guidance process into two stages, and develop the normal acceleration command based on the super-twisting algorithm (STA) and disturbance estimated value, to ensure the convergence of the relative distance. Then, we also design the acceleration command along the line-of-sight (LOS), based on the nonsingular fast terminal sliding mode (NFTSM) control, to ensure that all the NSIs simultaneously hit the target. Furthermore, we prove the stability of the closed-loop guidance system, based on the Lyapunov theory. Finally, our simulation results of a three-to-one interception scenario show that the proposed cooperative guidance scheme makes all the NSIs hit the target at the same time.

  • A practical recursive weighted least square(WLS) solution is proposed to solve the passive ranging problem. Apart from the previous works based on the extended Kalman filter(EKF), to ensure the convergency at long-range, the proposed scheme makes use of line-of-sight(LOS) rate instead of bearing information. The influence of LOS rate measurement errors is investigated and it is asserted that the WLS estimates contain bias and scale factor errors. Together with simple compensation algorithm, the estimation errors of proposed filter can be reduced dramatically.

  • Optimal impact angle control guidance law and its variants for intercepting a maneuvering target are introduced in this paper. The linear quadratic(LQ) optimal control theory is reviewed first to setup framework of guidance law derivation, called the sweep method. As an example, the inversely weighted time-to-go energy optimal control problem to obtain the optimal impact angle control guidance law for a fixed target is solved via the sweep method. Since this optimal guidance law is not applicable for a moving target due to the angle mismatch at the impact instant, the law is modified to three different biased proportional navigation(PN) laws: the flight path angle control law, the line-of-sight(LOS) angle control law, and the relative flight path angle control law. Effectiveness of the guidance laws are verified via numerical simulations.

  • A missile with a strapdown seeker should properly estimate line-of-sight(LOS) rate using its attitude information and the look angle of the seeker because LOS rate information in an inertial coordinate system, which is used for a proportional navigation(PN) homing guidance, can not be obtained directly. However, an unnecessary feedback loop(Parasite Loop) is formed in the guidance and control loop, and it may cause the guidance performance degradation or even the unstability of the system(Parasite Effect). This paper presents estimation methods for the LOS rate information and effective ways to minimize the parasite effect using Routh-Hurwitz stability criterion. Various numerical simulations are also included to verify the proposed methods.
