  • This paper illustrates resonant tank design considerations and the implementation of a LLC resonant converter with a wide battery voltage range based on the fundamental harmonic approximation (FHA) analysis. Unlike the conventional design at zero load, the parameter K (the ratio of the transformer magnetizing inductor Lm to the resonant inductor Lr) of the LLC converter in this paper is designed with two charging points, (Vo_min, Io_max1) and (Vo_max, Io_max2), according to the battery charging strategy. A 2.9kW prototype with an output voltage range of 36V to 72V dc is built to verify the design. It achieves a peak efficiency of 96%.

  • Recently, Power Conditioning System (PCS) tends to become more compact, and tends to require higher efficiency, and higher power density with better performance. To meet these requirements, a novel topology consisted of LLC resonant inverter with two resonant tanks for low power losses and Low Frequency (LF) cyclo-converter for sine wave filtering is proposed. The operating schemes are analyzed and described. A 400W proto product is built, tested and verified the performances by connecting the 110Vac 60Hz utility line.

  • The resonant converters cause the high voltage stress according to the input voltage, which increases the conduction loss in converter power switches. The topology of LLC half bridge resonant converter provides ZVS characteristic and also the stress of voltage and current is smaller than that of the general resonant converters. So we can expect the higher efficiency. In this paper, the LLC resonant converter is designed for slim adapter. In the adapter design, we should consider the weight, the size and overheat of the adapter. Thus the optimal design of transformer is the most important facts. Some parameters should be considered in order to get the highest efficiency. The LLC resonant converter input is 390VDC Link voltage of PFC and the output has 16VDC/90W ratings. The efficiency measured is about up to 93%.

  • Generally, the conventional battery charging system using an analog method has the large, heavy hardware and low efficiency. Also, it has the disadvantage that it is necessary to replace the control circuit on the basis of the characteristic curve of the specific battery cell. The proposed programmable digital LLC resonant charging system use high efficiency control system(CC-CV), and has characteristic a small hardware and advantage that a digital programming of the voltage, current, and battery capacity characteristics can be flexible. The system proposed the use of Half-bridge LLC resonant converter is possible to improve efficiency and reduce switching losses by using ZVS topology. Further, a constant voltage - constant current(CC-CV) control algorithm apply to the charger which using a buck converter. The performance of the proposed system is demonstrated through experiments.

  • In order to decrease the size of a switch mode power supply, high switching frequency can be an efficient way to reduce the size of passive components in the converter. In this paper, a 500-kHz high-frequency LLC resonant converter is proposed with an accurate design method of magnetizing inductance, as well as the relationship between the switching frequency and the size of the passive components. Simulation and experimental results are presented to verify the proposed methods and equations, including the temperature data of each passive and active device of the converter. Using those results, dominant power losses in the prototype converter under 500-kHz high-frequency operation are investigated, compared with the results from a 100-kHz converter. In addition, operating waveforms and power conversion efficiency will be shown to obtain design considerations for the high switching frequency LLC resonant converter.

  • Recent trends in high-power-density applications have highlighted the importance of designing power converters with high-frequency operation. However, conventional LLC resonant converters present limitations in terms of high-frequency driving due to switching losses during the turn-off period. Switching losses are caused by the overlap of the voltage and current during this period, and can be decreased by reducing the switch voltage. In turn, the switch voltage can be reduced through a series connection of four switches, and additional circuitry is essential for balancing the voltage of each switch. In this work, a three-level LLC resonant converter that can operate at high frequency is proposed by reducing switch losses and balancing the voltages of all switches with only one capacitor. The voltage-balancing principle of the proposed circuit can be extended to n-level converters, which further reduces the switch voltage stress. As a result, the proposed circuit is applicable to high-input applications. To confirm the validity of the proposed circuit, theoretical analysis and experimental verification results from a 350 W-rated prototype are presented.

  • The LLC series resonant converter with a LLT(Inductor-Inductor-Transformer) transformer for PDP V sustaining power supply is presented. LLT transformer used to combine the inductor and transformer into one unit has the increased leakage inductance in the primary and secondary due to the winding method and the use of the gaped core. The increased leakage inductance in the primary and secondary of LLT transformer can be impacted on the DC voltage gain characteristics of LLC series resonant converter. In this paper, DC gain characteristics and the experimental results of the LLC series resonant converter with a LLT transformer are verified on the simulation based on the theoretical analysis and the 400W experimental prototype.

  • In this paper, a sliding mode and proportional plus integral (SM-PI) control combined with self-sustained phase shift modulation (SSPSM) for LLC resonant converters is presented. The proposed control scheme improves the transient response while preserving good steady-state performance. An averaged large signal model of an LLC converter with the ZVS modulation technique is developed for the SM control design. The sliding surface is obtained based on the input-output linearization concept. A system identification method is adopted to obtain the transform function of the LLC resonant converter, which is used to design the PI control. In order to reduce the inherent chattering problem in the steady state, the combined SM-PI control strategy is derived with fuzzy control, where the SM control is responsive during the transient state while the PI control prevails in the steady state. The combination of SSPSM and the SM-PI control provides ZVS operation, robustness and a fast transient response against step load variations. Simulation and experimental results validate the theoretical analysis and the attractive features of the proposed scheme.

  • This paper presents a mode transition method that applies frequency compensation technique of an LLC resonant converter for stable mode transition. LLC resonant converters used in various applications require high efficiency and high power density. However, because of circuit property, a wider voltage gain range equates to a greater circuit loss, so maintaining high efficiency at all voltage gain ranges is difficult. In this case, full bridge-half bridge mode transition method can be used, which maintains high efficiency even in a wide voltage gain range. However, this method causes damage to the circuit through overcurrent by the mode transition. This study analyzes the cause of the problem and proposes a mode transition method that applies frequency compensation technique to solve the problem. The proposed method verifies the stable transition through simulation analysis and experimental results.

  • LLC resonant converter is used to control laser output power in Nd:YAG laser. Zero voltage switching (ZVS) is implemented to minimize the switching loss which is adopting the LLC resonant converter. In the spot welding processing of metal thin films, the processing quality is decided by the laser beam output energy of single pulse. We decide to the 50 [J] as the single pulse laser beam energy. Laser output power is investigated and experimented by changing the output current. That current is controled by the charging voltage of capacitor. From those results, we obtained the maximum laser output of 58.2 [J] and the conversion efficiency of 2.52% at the discharge voltage of 620V and the discharge current of 861 [A] and the pulse repetition rate of 1 [Hz] at the charging capacitor of 12,000 [${\mu}F$].
