  • The purpose of this paper was to understand the dynamics of deployment of large mesh antennas, and to provide a numerical method for determining the dynamic stiffness and the driving forces for the design. The deployment structure was numerically modeled using the frame elements. The eigenvalue analysis was demonstrated, with respect to the folded and unfolded configurations of the antenna. A multibody dynamic model was formulated with Kane's equation, and simulated using the pseudo upper triangular decomposition (PUTD) method for resolving the constrained problem. Based on the multibody model, the kinetics of the deployment, the motor driving forces, and the feasibility of the designed deployment structure were investigated.

  • Avionics equipment requires various environmental conditions and performance during development, and as a countermeasure against such development risk, the worst-case circuit analysis(WCCA) is applied to predict perform preliminary performance analysis. WCCA calculates the maximum and minimum values by combining the parameter values of the relevant circuit after deriving the parameter values in consideration of the aging of the temperature and operating period at the component level. In this paper, the necessary matters for WCCA application are described. Chapter 2 describes the differences and characteristics of the WCCA techniques EVA, RSS, and Monte Carlo.Chapter 3 introduces the analysis process through the example circuit to introduce the actual analysis procedure. Chapter 4 describes the method of selecting an analysis technique for each condition of the analysis target. As a result of applying the procedures and analysis methods introduced in this paper when open, it was confirmed that preliminary performance analysis and part optimization design verification are possible.

  • Drones, which have rapidly grown along with the 4th industrial revolution, spread over industries and also widely used for military purposes. In recent wars in Europe, drones are being evaluated as a game changer on the battlefield, and their importance for military use is being highlighted. The Republic of Korea Army also planned drone-bot systems including various drones suitable for echelons and missions of the military as future defense forces. The keyword of these drone-bot systems is autonomy by artificial intelligence. In addition, common use of operating platforms is required for the rapid development of various types of drones. In this paper, we propose software framework that applies diverse artificial intelligence technologies such as multi-agent system, cognitive architecture and knowledge-based context reasoning for mission autonomy and common use of military drones.

  • In this research, we developed the muscle-strength-assistant device, named as LEXO-W, and conducted suitability test for army when transporting high weights. LEXO-W relieves the burden when carrying heavy weights by distributing the load concentrated on the arms throughout the body. LEXO-W weighs 4 kg and is designed to handle objects weighing up to 55 kg. To verify the effectiveness of the device, object handling tests (high explosive shell, simple assembly bridges, and ammunition boxes) were conducted. Working time, metabolic rate, and electromyogram (EMG) signals were measured in each test. As a result, it was confirmed that the working time, metabolic rate and EMG signal before and after wearing LEXO-W were decreased. This research has great significance in that it verified the performance of the wearable device from the perspective of military operation.

  • Accurate material information is very important in PCB (Printed Circuit Board) design. In an integrated mast of a battleship, heat reduction is essential for stealth functionality. So heat dissipation from internal control equipments should be reduced as much as possible. Control equipments mostly consist of PCBs, but it often suffers from impedance mismatching due to imprecise Dk (Dielectric Constant), which significantly increases heat dissipation. In this paper, measurement methods of Dk is investigated. Also, effects on impedance mismatch by Dk variation with operating frequency is investigated.

  • HF communications are used as a last means of long distance communications without any relay node in NLOS (Non Line-Of-Sight) environment. Conventional analog voice communication in the HF band is vulnerable to security as well as severe background noise. To overcome these shortcoming, digital voice was introduced into HF radios in the early 1980s. In this paper, we analyze avaliable digital voice communication ground wave range of HF radios that applied MELPe CODEC and MIL-STD-188-110B physical layer standard using GRWAVE program. And we evaluate usefulness of digital voice communication in HF band.

  • Spoofing attacks including meaconing can provide a bogus position to a victim GPS receiver, and those attacks are notably difficult to detect at the point of view on the receiver. Several countermeasure techniques have been studied to detect, classify, and cancel the spoofing signals. Based on the countermeasure techniques, we have developed an anti-spoofing equipment that detects and mitigates or eliminates the spoofing signal based on raw measurements. Although many anti-spoofing techniques have been studied in the literatures, the evaluation test system is not deeply studied to evaluate the anti-spoofing equipment, which includes detection, mitigation, and elimination of spoofing signals. Each study only has a specific test method to verify its anti-spoofing technique. In this paper, we propose the performance evaluation test system that includes both spoofing signal injection system and its injection scenario with the constraints of stand-alone anti-spoofing techniques. The spoofing signal injection scenario is designed to drive a victim GPS receiver that moves to a designed position, where the mitigation and elimination based anti-spoofing algorithms can be successively evaluated. We evaluate the developed anti-spoofing equipment and a commercial GPS receiver using our proposed performance evaluation test system. Although the commercial one is affected by the test system and moves to the designed position, the anti-spoofing equipment mitigates and eliminates the injected spoofing signals as planned. We evaluate the performance of anti-spoofing equipment on the position error of the circular error probability, while injecting spoofing signals.

  • Purpose: Periodontitis is considered a local risk factor for medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaws (MRONJ). However, little is known about the progression of periodontitis in the presence of zoledronic acid (ZOL). The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of the systemic use of ZOL on the progression of experimental periodontitis (EP) in rats, as ZOL could modulate the progression of periodontitis and concomitantly cause MRONJ in individuals with periodontitis. Methods: Forty-eight male Wistar rats were randomly distributed in 6 groups (n=8 each). To induce EP, ligatures were placed around the right first mandibular molars. Three groups were treated with ZOL (0.15 mg/kg/week, intraperitoneal), and 3 with 0.9% saline solution (controls). In the ZOL/Lig30 and ZOL/Lig 15 groups, after 4 weeks of treatment with ZOL, EP was induced and euthanasia was performed after 30 and 15 days of EP induction, respectively. In both groups, the animals continued to receive ZOL after EP until the end of the experiment. In the Lig/ZOL group, EP was induced first, and 15 days later, ZOL was administered for 8 weeks, with euthanasia 1 week after the last dose. After euthanasia, the mandibles were evaluated using micro-computed microtomography (micro-CT) and histomorphometry. Bone loss was measured, and the presence of osteonecrosis was evaluated histologically. The data were evaluated using the Student t-test and the Mann-Whitney test, with a significance level of 5%. Results: In the Lig/ZOL group, micro-CT revealed less alveolar bone resorption in the distal root (P<0.01) than in the control group (Lig/Con). Histomorphometric analysis confirmed less alveolar bone resorption in the Lig/ZOL group (P=0.001). Histologically, osteonecrosis was more common in the ZOL groups. Conclusion: ZOL decreased alveolar bone resorption in rats with EP. However, it presented a higher risk for MRONJ.
