This is the second of two papers on the 3D numerical modeling of nearshore hydro- and morphodynamics. In Part I, the focus was on surf and swash zone hydrodynamics in the cross-shore and longshore directions. Here, we consider nearshore processes with an emphasis on the effects of oceanic forcing and beach characteristics on sediment transport in the cross- and longshore directions, as well as on foreshore bathymetry changes. The Delft3D and XBeach models were used with four turbulence closures (viz., ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$, ${\kappa}-L$, ATM and H-LES) to solve the 3D Navier-Stokes equations for incompressible flow as well as the beach morphology. The sediment transport module simulates both bed load and suspended load transport of non-cohesive sediments. Twenty sets of numerical experiments combining nine control parameters under a range of bed characteristics and incident wave and tidal conditions were simulated. For each case, the general morphological response in shore-normal and shore-parallel directions was presented. Numerical results showed that the ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ and H-LES closure models yield similar results that are in better agreement with existing morphodynamic observations than the results of the other turbulence models. The simulations showed that wave forcing drives a sediment circulation pattern that results in bar and berm formation. However, together with wave forcing, tides modulate the predicted nearshore sediment dynamics. The combination of tides and wave action has a notable effect on longshore suspended sediment transport fluxes, relative to wave action alone. The model's ability to predict sediment transport under propagation of obliquely incident wave conditions underscores its potential for understanding the evolution of beach morphology at field scale. For example, the results of the model confirmed that the wave characteristics have a considerable effect on the cumulative erosion/deposition, cross-shore distribution of longshore sediment transport and transport rate across and along the beach face. In addition, for the same type of oceanic forcing, the beach morphology exhibits different erosive characteristics depending on grain size (e.g., foreshore profile evolution is erosive or accretive on fine or coarse sand beaches, respectively). Decreasing wave height increases the proportion of onshore to offshore fluxes, almost reaching a neutral net balance. The sediment movement increases with wave height, which is the dominant factor controlling the beach face shape.

In order to investigate the hydraulic characteristics of a boundary layer streaming over the beach cusps appeared in swells prevailing mild seas, we numerically simulated the shoaling process of Edge waves over the beach cusp. Synchronous Edge waves known to sustain the beach cusps could successfully be duplicated by generating two obliquely colliding Edge waves in front of beach cusps. The amplitude AB and length LB of Beach Cusp were elected to be 1.25 m and 18 m, respectively based on the measured data along the Mang-Bang beach. Numerical results show that boundary layer streaming was formed at every phase of shoaling process without exception, and the maximum boundary layer streaming was observed to occur at the crest of sand bar. In RUN 1 where the shortest waves were deployed, the maximum boundary layer streaming was observed to be around 0.32 m/s, which far exceeds the amplitude of free stream by two times. It is also noted that the maximum boundary layer streaming mentioned above greatly differs from the analytical solution by Longuet-Higgins (1957) based on wave Reynolds stress. In doing so, we also identify the recovery procedure of natural beaches in swells prevailing mild seas, which can be summarized such as: as the infra-gravity waves formed in swells by the resonance wave-wave interaction arrives near the breaking line, the sediments ascending near the free surface by the Phase II waves orbital motion were carried toward the pinnacle of foreshore by the shoreward flow commenced at the steep front of breaking waves, and were deposited near the pinnacle of foreshore due to the infiltration.
The effect of sub-grid turbulence and combustion models on the mean flame height in a heptane pool fire according to the Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS) version (5 and 6) based on Large Eddy Simulation (LES) was examined. The heat release rate for the fire simulation was provided through experiments performed under identical conditions and the predictive performance of the mean flame height according to FDS version was evaluated by a comparison with the existing correlation. As a result, the Smagorinsky and Deardorff turbulence models applied to FDS 5 and 6, respectively, had no significant effects on the mean flow field, flame shape and flame height. On the other hand, the difference in pool fire characteristics including the mean flame height was due mainly to the difference in the mixture fraction and Eddy Dissipation Concept (EDC) combustion models applied to FDS 5 and 6, respectively. Finally, compared to FDS 6, FDS 5 provided the predictive result of a significantly longer flame height and more consistent mean flame height than the existing correlation.

In the present work, we investigate the hydrodynamic behavior of a turbulent bore, such as tsunami bore and tidal bore, generated by the removal of a gate with water impounded on one side. The bore generation system is similar to that used in a general dam-break problem. In order to the numerical simulation of the formation and propagation of a bore, we consider the incompressible flows of two immiscible fluids, liquid and gas, governed by the Navier-Stokes equations. The interface tracking between two fluids is achieved by the volume-of-fluid (VOF) technique and the M-type cubic interpolated propagation (MCIP) scheme is used to solve the Navier-Stokes equations. The MCIP method is a low diffusive and stable scheme and is generally extended the original one-dimensional CIP to higher dimensions, using a fractional step technique. Further, large eddy simulation (LES) closure scheme, a cost-effective approach to turbulence simulation, is used to predict the evolution of quantities associated with turbulence. In order to verify the applicability of the developed numerical model to the bore simulation, laboratory experiments are performed in a wave tank. Comparisons are made between the numerical results by the present model and the experimental data and good agreement is achieved.

With the advent of super cargo ship due to the explosive increase in the amount of cargo shipped via seas, some mega ports are under construction in South Korea, to accommodate the super cargo ship, and some of them already enter their final phase. To sustain the harbor tranquility, mega ports usually comprise huge vertical type breakwaters which are intrinsically vulnerable to the attack of long waves. In this rationale, we present the chamber type breakwater with a circular curtain wall - Eco-breaker 2, to alleviate the reflection of long waves and numerically investigate the hydraulic characteristics of Eco-breaker 2. As a wave driver, we use the Navier-Stokes eq., the most robust wave driver, using SPH (Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics) and LES (Large Eddy Simulation). For the verification of numerical results, we also carried out hydraulic model test. It is shown that Eco-breaker 2 can effectively alleviate the reflection of long waves with its inherited large organized eddies encompassing the water chamber and some region off the curtain wall of varying size. It is also shown that the scope and strength of large organized eddies strongly depends on the incident wave period, and the reflection coefficient can be lowered to 0.18 by tuning the size of water chamber such that resident time at the chamber is just short of the half period of incident waves. Based on these results, we present the specification of Eco-breaker 2 to boost its use on the development of water environment friendly harbor worldwide.

Aiming at the problem of non-stationary wind field simulation of downbursts, a non-stationary down-burst generation system was designed by adding a nozzle and program control valve to the inlet of the original wall jet model. The computational fluid dynamics (CFD) method was used to simulate the downburst. Firstly, the two-dimensional (2D) model was used to study the outflow situation, and the database of working conditions was formed. Then the combined superposition of working conditions was carried out to simulate the full-scale measured downburst. The three-dimensional (3D) large eddy simulation (LES) was used for further verification based on this superposition condition. Finally, the wind tunnel test is used to further verify. The results show that after the valve is opened, the wind ve-locity at low altitude increases rapidly, then stays stable, and the wind velocity at each point fluctuates. The velocity of the 2D model matches the wind velocity trend of the measured downburst well. The 3D model matches the measured downburst flow in terms of wind velocity and pulsation characteris-tics. The time-varying mean wind velocity of the wind tunnel test is in better agreement with the meas-ured time-varying mean wind velocity of the downburst. The power spectrum of fluctuating wind ve-locity at different vertical heights for the test condition also agrees well with the von Karman spectrum, and conforms to the "-5/3" law. The vertical profile of the maximum time-varying average wind veloci-ty obtained from the test shows the basic characteristics of the typical wind profile of the downburst. The effectiveness of the downburst generation system is verified.

A modified transmission line model is proposed for input impedance analysis of a square microstip antenna with single-circularly-polarized. Alog-periodic arrangement with microstrip antenna (LPMA) which consists of 3 resonant element ($3\times1$) is designed for broadband operation ranging from 11.2 GHz to 12.4 GHz, based on this pro- posed model from transmission line model. Aplanar array ($3\times4$array), in which 4sets of the above LPMA are in the same plane, is fabricated for high gain X-band satellite communication antennas. The optimum spacing between each LPMA is determined using computer simulation for the minimum bariation of far field pattern and null. This $3\times4$array has a measured values of gain greater than 8dBi, VSWR les then 2.3, and bandwidth greater than 7% respectively.

To develop more robust oil boom which is vulnerable to various failure mode under severe weather condition, highly accurate wave model is developed using Spatially filtered Navier-Stokes Eq., LDS (Lagrangian Dynamic Smagorinsky model) for residual stresses, SPH (Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics). To clarify the hydraulic characteristics of floating type oil boom, we numerically simulate the behavior of oil spill around oil boom under very energetic progressive waves. At the first stage, we firmly anchored the oil boom, and then, allowed the excursion of the oil boom. It turns out that oil boom with skirt of enough length (longer than 30% of depth) effectively confines the oil spill even against very energetic waves. We can also observe obliquely descending vertical eddies between y = 1~2 m as horizontal vortices shedding at the interface of oil spill and water are diffused toward the bottom, which is believed to be the birth, growing and break-down of Kelvin-Helmholz wave.

The analytical model of tornado vortices plays an essential role in tornado wind description and tornado-resistant design of civil structures. However, there is still a lack of guidance for the selection and application of tornado analytical models since they are different from each other. For single-cell tornado vortices, this study conducts a comparative study on the velocity characteristics of the analytical models based on numerically simulated tornado-like vortices (TLV). The single-cell stage TLV is first generated by Large-eddy simulations (LES). The spatial distribution of the three-dimensional mean velocity of the typical analytical tornado models is then investigated by comparison to the TLV with different swirl ratios. Finally, key parameters are given as functions of swirl ratio for the direct application of analytical tornado models to generate full-scale tornado wind field. Results show that the height of the maximum radial mean velocity is more appropriate to be defined as the boundary layer thickness of the TLV than the height of the maximum tangential mean velocity. The TLV velocity within the boundary layer can be well estimated by the analytical model. Simple fitted results show that the full-scale maximum radial and tangential mean velocity increase linearly with the swirl ratio, while the radius and height corresponding to the position of these two velocities decrease non-linearly with the swirl ratio.
In this study, an aero-acoustic analysis around pantograph of a high speed train is performed. Computational technique and grid system is validated with wind tunnel test result and unsteady acoustic pressure data are used for analyzing noise level of each part of pantograph. FLUENT is used for flow analysis and LES(Large Eddy Simulation) is applied for analyzing turbulent flow. For acoustic analysis, Ffowcs Williams-Hawkings(FW-H) acoustics model is used and it bring the aero-acoustic characteristic of pantograph. As the result, contact strip, knee, substructure of pantograph is confirmed as a main source of aero-acoustic noise and it is dealt in various frequencies. The result is expected to help building improved grid system.
