  • 항로표지 사용하는 육지초인용 전구식 대형 등명기의 메탈할라이드 램프는 수명이 1,000시간으로 LED 광원과 비교하여 매우 짧은 수명으로 유지관리에 어려움이 발생하고 있으며 전구식 회전형 대형 등명기는 고압방전등 및 AC 모터를 사용하고 있어 고장 발생 빈도가 높고 긴급수리에 장시간이 소용되어 기능 유지가 어려운 실정이다. 본 연구에서는 회전형 대형등명기의 렌즈를 사용하고 자동절환이 가능한 광원부 기구 개선 및 광원을 고출력 LED로 대체하고 기존 회전형 대형등명기의 렌즈에 적합한 고효율 LED 반사판을 설계·제작하여 광학특성을 측정하고 분석하였다. 또한 광학특성에 적합한 연안등대에 시범설치를 통하여 성능 검증 및 운영 개선을 통한 실용화 연구를 수행하였다.

  • Due to the declining LED price and environment-friendly energy policies, CO2 emission reduction and energy-saving, the LED lighting industry is accelerating rapidly. In particular, the needs for LED lamp, replacing the existing fluorescent lamp without exchange luminaire or driver circuits, are also rapidly increasing. Therefore, replacement for T8 fluorescent lamp, LED T8 lamp was developed and standardized. However, except LED T8 lamps, other lamps' regulations or standards were not enacted. Also, the stability of fluorescent lamp substitutable LED lamp is low due to the difference in electrical characteristics and mismatch between the existing fluorescent lamp ballast and LED lamp. Therefore, many are struggling while developing fluorescent lamp substitutable LED lamp. In this paper describes the properties of existing fluorescent lamp ballasts and the considerations while developing fluorescent lamp substitutable LED lamp : demonstrating its validity by experiments the developed fluorescent lamp substitutable LED lamp prototype.

  • Market for LED lights as a newly-growing industry has been growing, and secureness of high efficiency and long life through optimal thermal design are crucial for further popularization. In this study, considerable improvement in thermal performance for a 10W LED light has been done compared to a previous model. For this, numerical model has been established through experiments and used to optimize design factors in heat release such as fin shape, PCB kind or LED number etc. Furthermore, prototype of a LED light has been made and the improved thermal performance was verified with heat release experiments.

  • Ultra Violet(UV) is gradually being replaced with LED instead of general UV lamps. However, the light efficiency of UV LED is still lower than that of the general lamp, and the light efficiency is also low. Due to the current environment and technical problems of UV lamps, the LED replacements are gradually being made. In this study, a new package design and analysis were performed to increase the lifetime and performance of UV LEDs. A new packaging for UV LED were designed and implemented. The new packaging for UV LED was constructed to improve light efficiency. And the electrical and optical characteristics were analyzed respectively. To improve the optical efficiency in UV LED package, the Al has been used based on high reflectivity and applying the optimal lens focusing. Compared to the existing silver Ag, the light efficiency was improved by about 30% or more, and it was confirmed that the light output degradation characteristic was improved by about 10% in the newly applied optical device chip.

  • Since the high heat generation of LED chips can cause a reduction in lifetime, degradation of luminous efficiency, and variation of color temperature, studies have been carried out on the optimization of LED packaging and heat sinks. Recently, LED packages have been applied to high-power lights such as car headlamps or street lights, and it is known that cooling using only free convection is not at all efficient. Thus, in this study, a heat pipe with forced convection was examined for the optimization of the cooling performance in high-power LED lights. In addition, optimal on-off control of a fan was adopted to increase the fan lifetime, since the lifetime of the fan is generally shorter than that of the LEDs.

Driving Method for Dimming of LED Lamps using Selectively Charged Charge Pump (선택적 충전방식 전하펌프를 사용한 LED 램프 조광구동 기술)

  • A new LED lamp driving technology with a charge pump instead of a conventional DC-DC converter is proposed. The proposed driving technology is used to control the LED lamp with digital dimming. The power loss in the zener diodes is reduced because the charging process of the capacitors is selectively controlled according to the digital control signal. From the experimental results, when dimming four LED lamps simultaneously, the average driving circuit efficiency of 89% is obtained, regardless of the dimming level. White light with color temperature over a range of 2800~7200K was produced by dimming control of red, green, blue and amber LED lamps with the proposed driving circuit. The characteristics of the driving circuits can be changed depending on the characteristics of the R, G, B, and A LED lamps. The efficiency of the driving circuits up to a maximum 89% can also be obtained depending on the combination of LED lamps. The driving technology with digital dimming control for LED lamps proposed in this paper would be effective for obtaining high efficiency in LED driving circuits and remote control of LED lamps using digital communications.

  • 본 연구는 LED 광원을 이용한 절전형 라인 조명제어장치의 개발에 관한 것이다. 기본 광원은 5W급 고휘도 LED Lamp를 기본적으로 1~5개의 개별 램프를 제어하며 LED Lamp의 불량상태와 운전상태 감시를 위한 정전류 방식의 구동 기능을 포함하고 여러 단계의 밝기 변화와 절전, 방열을 고려하여 PWM 방식으로 구동 밝기조절 및 점멸 주기 제어기능을 갖는다. 이장치는 도로의 라인조명용 단위장치로 구성될 수 있으며 개별적으로 중앙통제시스템과 통신제어기능을 수행할 수 있게 구성된 시스템이다.

Natural Cooling Characteristics of a Heat Sink for LED Headlight used in Passenger Cars (승용 전조등 LED 램프의 방열판 자연 냉각특성)

  • The objective of this study is to investigate the cooling characteristics of a heat sink for an LED headlight used in passenger cars. To this end, this study conducts the experimental and numerical analysis of the heat sink heated at constant heat fluxes without air flow applied. In the experiments, heat was transferred at a constant heat flux through the bottom of a heat sink. The measured temperature on pre-selected locations of the heat sink was in good agreement with the numerically predicted one. The experimental and numerical results indicate that the convective heat transfer coefficient for the natural convection mode was decreased by increasing the heat flux applied to the bottom of heat sink, lowering the cooling capabilities.

Fabrication of White Light Emitting Diode Lamp Designed by Photomasks with Serial-parallel Circuits in Metal Interconnection ($\cdot$병렬 회로로 금속배선된 포토마스크로 설계된 백색LED 조명램프 제조 공정특성 연구)

  • LED lamp was designed by the serial-parallel integration of LED chips in metal-interconnection. The 7 $4.5{\times}4.5\;in^{2}$ masks were designed with the contact type of chrome-no mirror?dark. The white epitaxial thin film was grown by metal-organic chemical vapor deposition. The active layers were consisted with the serial order of multi-quantum wells for blue, green and red lights. The fabricated LED chip showed the electroluminescence peaked at 450, 560 and 600 nm. For the current injection of 20 mA, the operating voltage was measured to 4.25 V and the optical emission power was obtained to 0.7 $\mu$W.
