  • In this paper, satellite data link waveform is proposed which is based on the waveform of Link-16 but LDPC code is studied instead of CCSK code in order to be optimized to satellite nonlinear channel environment and transmission characteristics. And the DSM (Demux, Selective CH switch, and Mux) transponder structure is suggested which can remove all of the jamming signal out of the transmission signal band and convert uplink hopping frequency to desired ones of downlink. The results of BER and anti-jamming performance analysis shows that the required Eb/No and processing gain in the worst case partial band jammer of the proposed waveform are 2.5dB and 52dB respectively and the anti-jamming capacity improvement of DSM transponder is maximum 2dB.

  • In the distributed video coding system, the parity bits, which are generated in encoders, are used to reconstruct Wyner-Ziv frames. Since the original Wyner-Ziv frames are not known in decoders, the efficient correlation noise modeling for turbo or LDPC code is necessary. In this paper, an efficient correlation noise modeling method is proposed and the performance is analyzed. The method to estimate the quantization parameters for key frames, which are encoded using H.264 intraframe coding technique, is also proposed. The performance of the proposed system is evaluated by extensive computer simulations.

  • This paper proposes a high-throughput encoding process and encoder architecture for quasi-cyclic low-density parity-check codes in IEEE 802.11ac standard. In order to achieve the high throughput with low complexity, a partially parallel processing based encoding process and encoder architecture are proposed. Forward and backward accumulations are performed in one clock cycle to increase the encoding throughput. A low complexity cyclic shifter is also proposed to minimize the hardware overhead of combinational logic in the encoder architecture. In IEEE 802.11ac systems, the proposed encoder is rate compatible to support various code rates and codeword block lengths. The proposed encoder is implemented with 130-nm CMOS technology. For (1944, 1620) irregular code, 7.7 Gbps throughput is achieved at 100 MHz clock frequency. The gate count of the proposed encoder core is about 96 K.

  • Underwater acoustic communication has multipath error because of reflection by sea-level and sea-bottom. The multipath of underwater channel causes signal distortion and error floor. In order to improve the performance, it is necessary to employ an iterative coding scheme. Among the iterative coding scheme, turbo codes and LDPC codes are dominant channel coding schemes in recent. This paper concluded that turbo coding scheme is optimal for underwater communications system in aspect to performance, coded word length, and equalizer combining. Also, we confirmed the performance in the environment of oceanic experimentation using turbo equalizer based on distance 5Km, data rate 1Kbps.

  • Underwater acoustic(UWA) communication has multipath error because of reflection by sea-level and sea-bottom. The multipath of UWA channel causes signal distortion and error floor. In this paper, we proposed split input bits of channel decoder using method of maximum value, average value, LLR value for optimal estimation. Channel coding method is LDPC(N size=16000) standard in DVB-S2. As shown in simulation results, the performance of LLR value method is better than other methods.

  • In this paper, we present an iterative reliability-based modified majority-logic decoding algorithm for two classes of structured low-density parity-check codes. Different from the conventional modified one-step majority-logic decoding algorithms, we design a turbo-like iterative strategy to recover the performance degradation caused by the simply flipping operation. The main computational loads of the presented algorithm include only binary logic and integer operations, resulting in low decoding complexity. Furthermore, by introducing the iterative set, a very small proportion (less than 6%) of variable nodes are involved in the reliability updating process, which can further reduce the computational complexity. Simulation results show that, combined with the factor correction technique and a well-designed non-uniform quantization scheme, the presented algorithm can achieve a significant performance improvement and a fast decoding speed, even with very small quantization levels (3-4 bits resolution). The presented algorithm provides a candidate for trade-offs between performance and complexity.

  • DVB-SSP is a new broadcasting system for hybrid satellite communications, which supports mobile handheld systems and fixed terrestrial systems. An upper layer, including erasure Reed-Solomon error correction combined with cyclic redundancy check. However, a critical factor must be considered in upper layer decoding. If there is only one bit error in an IP packet, the entire IP packet is considered as unreliable bytes, even if it contains correct bytes. If, for example, there is one real byte error, in an IP packet of 512 bytes, 511 correct bytes are erased from the frame. Therefore, this paper proposed upper layer decoding methods; LLR-based decoding. By means of simulation we show that the performance of the proposed decoding algorithm is superior to that of the conventional one.

  • The Davey-MacKay construction is a promising concatenated coding scheme involving an outer $2^k$-ary code and an inner code of rate k/n, for insertion-deletion-substitution channels. Recently, a lookup table (LUT)-based inner decoder for this coding scheme was proposed to reduce the computational complexity of the inner decoder, albeit at the expense of a slight degradation in word error rate (WER) performance. In this letter, we show that negligible deterioration in WER performance can be achieved with an LUT as small as $7{\cdot}2^{k+n-1}$, but no smaller, when the probability of receiving less than n-1 or greater than n+1 bits corresponding to one outer code symbol is at least an order of magnitude smaller than the WER when no LUT is used.

  • In this letter, we study the influence of receiver imperfections on bit error rate (BER) degradations in detecting low-density parity-check coded multilevel phase-shift keying signals transmitted over a Rician fading channel. Based on the analytical system model which we previously developed using Monte Carlo simulations, we determine the BER degradations caused by the simultaneous influences of stochastic phase error, quadrature error, in-phase-quadrature mismatch, and the fading severity.
