Novel Liquid Crystal Compounds and Its Mixtures for VA-TFT-LCD TV Application

  • Three-ring types liquid crystalline compounds having fluoro and isothiocyanate substituent were synthesized and their physical and electro-optical properties were measured to evaluate the applications to active matrix VA liquid crystal displays. The tetrakis(triphenylphosphine)palladium(0) catalyzed cross coupling of aryl boronic acids with aryl halides is used to prepare trans-4'-Alkoxy-2,3-difluoro-3'-isothiocyanato-4-(4-alkylcyclohexyl}-biphenyl series. The synthesized compounds showed the nematic liquid crystalline phase and the negative dielectric anisotropy. The prepared mixtures showed faster response time and lower threshold voltage than their host mixture.

  • The 17" Backlight Unit (BLU) employing twelve EEFLs (External Electrode Fluorescent Lamp) has been developed for LCD-TV The characteristics of the EEFL BLU without dual brightness enhancement film (DBEF) were equivalent to those of CCFL (Cold cathode Fluorescent Lamp) BLU employing eight CCFLs with DBEF. Luminance, power consumption and uniformity were 12,000nits, 32watt and 80%, respectively. The inverter of EEFL Backlight Unit is composed of 2 transformers and driven by the sinusoidal waveform.

  • The size of TV and TFT-LCD are bigger and bigger for the next generation exposure equipment install that existing fab are getting a lot of additions. When the new fab build an extension that the shortening of the construction and non-vibration are use cast in place concrete pile method. In this study when lay the foundation of existing fab adjoin use vibration monitoring system are rotator type all casing method among cast in place concrete pile method. The evaluation of ground vibration of rotator type all casing method effect to precision equipment and vibration area of influence.

  • 하나의 물리 머신만으로 복수개의 가상 머신을 지원할 수 있는 가상화 기술[5,6]이 발달함에 따라, 기업에서는 비용 절감을 위해 가상 데스크탑 기술 도입이 많이 이루어지고 있다. 또한, 일반 사용자들을 위한 가상 데스크탑 기반의 클라우드 서비스 역시 많이 소개되고 있는데, 이러한 가상 데스크탑의 효과적인 사용을 위해서는 원격 접속 기술이 필수적이지만, 이는 키보드, 마우스 및 디스플레이가 감추어져 있는 PC와 같은 정형적인 컴퓨터 환경에서만 접속이 가능하다[3,4]. 본 논문에서는 스마트폰을 이용하여, 사용자 주변에서 원격 컴퓨팅 장치로 사용할 수 있는 LCD TV, 키보드 등의 레거시 디바이스를 검색하고 해당 디바이스를 원격지에 있는 가상 데스크탑과 연계시켜[1,2] 사용자 주변의 디바이스를 통해 원격 가상 데스크탑 제어를 연계 할 수 있는 중계 소프트웨어에 대한 설계 및 구현 내용을 기술하고 있다.

  • The proposed Novel OverDriving Technology with Optimum Look-up-Table(LUT)is suggested to be a better solution to reducing the occurrence of overshooting caused by the traditional overdriving method implemented to normally liquid crystal (VA mode). Chunghwa Picture Tubes, LTD. (CPT) has successfully implement this tech into 20 inch TFTLCD TV module at the present day. The proposed technology can speed up gray-to-gray response time of LCD less than one half of frame time. On the side, Optimum LUT construction apply the compression scheme to record total actual grayscale transfer characteristics instead of applying the normal spread method such as linear / non-linear interpolation. The memory space is been reduced and the distortion of the image quality is lesser.

  • 최근 IC 설계 및 제조 기술의 급격한 진보에 따라 PC 보급이 포화상태에 이르면서 가전제품으로서 첨단을 자랑하던 PC가 일반 가정에서 TV의 보급률과 비슷해지며 대중화에 되어가고 있다. 이에 따라 임베디드 시스템 기술이 PC뿐 아니라 정보 가전, 정보 단말, 통신 장비, 항공, 군사, 물류, 금융, 차량, 교통, 사무 사업 제어 의료 등 전 분야에 걸쳐 다양하게 적용되고 있는 실정이다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 임베디드 시스템에서의 여러 디바이스를 효율적으로 관리하기 위한 한 가지 기법으로 프레임버퍼를 이용한 디바이스 통합 제어 모듈을 설계 및 구현하였다. 본 논문에서 제안하는 기법은 임베디드 시스템에서 사용자 인터페이스로만 부각되던 LCD 화면을 통해서 임베디드 시스템의 각종 디바이스를 진단하고 제어할 수 있게 하여 특별한 외부 장치 없이 곧바로 디버깅이 가능하도록 하였다.

Cost-effective Power System with an Electronic Double Layer Capacitor for Reducing the Standby Power Consumption of Consumer Electronic Devices

  • Commercial home appliances using remotely controlled systems consume electric power while in standby mode to prepare for receiving a remote turn-on signal. The proposed power system can significantly reduce standby power consumption without increasing cost. Furthermore, since a Electronic Double Layer Capacitor (EDLC) is used as an auxiliary power storage element, the life cycle is longer and system reliability can be better than with existing approaches. When the energy of the EDLC is not sufficient for turning on the appliance, the power system charges the EDLC without affecting the main system. The proposed power system is verified with a commercial LCD TV and a 3.93mW standby consumption is obtained. This standby consumption can be regarded as zero standby equipment according to the IEC-62031 standard.

  • RGB 3색 LED를 이용 백라이트에서는 백색 광원을 구현을 위해서는 혼색을 위한 충분한 공간 또는 광학계를 필요로 하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 RGB 3색 LED의 컬러 혼색을 위해 광학 설계를 진행을 하였고, 이 광학계는 광경로 변경을 통해 BLU 내부 공간에서 각각의 3색 LED가 충분한 혼색 구간을 확보하여 백색을 구현하게 된다. 최근 적용하고 있는 Side emitting 방식 LED가 아닌 Top view type의 power LED를 이용하여 32인치급 TV LCD 백라이트를 제작하여 최적화를 진행하였다.

  • Edge enhanced image is needed for processing images for special purpose such as a circuit diagram or a design composed of lines. Error diffusion halftoning, among digital halftoning methods to represent a continuous grayscale image for the binary output device such as printers, facsimiles, LCD televisions and etc. also makes edges of objects blurred. This paper proposes the method to enhance the edge of a binary image for the binary output device as well as a circuit diagram or a design. Based on that the human eyes perceive the local average luminance rather than the pixel's luminance itself, the proposed system uses a local activitymeasure (LAM), which is the difference between a pixel luminance and the average of its $3{\times}3$ neighborhood pixels' luminances weighted according to the spatial positioning. The system also usesinformation of edge enhancement(IEE), which is computed from the LAM multiplied by the average luminance. The IEE is added to the quantizer's input pixel and feeds into the halftoning quantizer. The quantizer produces the halftone image having the enhanced edge. The simulation results show that the proposed method produces more fine halftoning images than conventional methods due to the enhanced edges. Also the performance of the proposed method is compared with that of the conventional method by measuring the edge correlation and the local average accordance over a range of viewing distances.

  • This work proposes a 12b 130MS/s 108mW $1.8mm^2$ 0.18um CMOS ADC for high-quality video systems such as TFT-LCD displays and digital TVs requiring simultaneously high resolution, low power, and small size at high speed. The proposed ADC optimizes power consumption and chip area at the target resolution and sampling rate based on a three-step pipeline architecture. The input SHA with gate-bootstrapped sampling switches and a properly controlled trans-conductance ratio of two amplifier stages achieves a high gain and phase margin for 12b input accuracy at the Nyquist frequency. A signal-insensitive 3D-fully symmetric layout reduces a capacitor and device mismatch of two MDACs. The proposed supply- and temperature- insensitive current and voltage references are implemented on chip with a small number of transistors. The prototype ADC in a 0.18um 1P6M CMOS technology demonstrates a measured DNL and INL within 0.69LSB and 2.12LSB, respectively. The ADC shows a maximum SNDR of 53dB and 51dB and a maximum SFDR of 68dB and 66dB at 120MS/s and 130MS/s, respectively. The ADC with an active die area of $1.8mm^2$ consumes 108mW at 130MS/s and 1.8V.
