Using large monopod bucket foundations as an alternative to monopiles for offshore wind turbines offers the potential for large cost savings compared to typical piled foundations. In this paper, numerical simulations are carried out to assess the risk of structural buckling during installation of large-diameter bucket foundations. Since shell structures are generally sensitive to initially imperfect geometries, eigenmode-affine imperfections are introduced in a nonlinear finite-element analysis. The influence of modelling the real lid structure compared to classic boundary conditions is investigated. The effects of including soil restraint and soil-structure interaction on the buckling analysis are also addressed.
For a subset $E{\subseteq}\mathbb{R}^d$ and $x{\in}\mathbb{R}^d$, the local Hausdorff dimension function of E at x and the local packing dimension function of E at x are defined by $$dim_{H,loc}(x,E)=\lim_{r{\searrow}0}dim_H(E{\cap}B(x,r))$$, $$dim_{P,loc}(x,E)=\lim_{r{\searrow}0}dim_P(E{\cap}B(x,r))$$, where $dim_H$ and $dim_P$ denote the Hausdorff dimension and the packing dimension, respectively. In this note we give a short and simple proof showing that for any pair of continuous functions $f,g:\mathbb{R}^d{\rightarrow}[0,d]$ with $f{\leq}g$, it is possible to choose a set E that simultaneously has f as its local Hausdorff dimension function and g as its local packing dimension function.
It is generally accepted that leadership is the foundation for creation of a company's business results. However, empirical evidence is lacking. This paper examines the relationship between leadership and key performance results based on a Return on Leadership Model. The model links Denison's four leadership traits to people results, customer results, and ultimately key performance results. Further specified, the model is a structural equation model with nine latent variables, each measured by a set of indicators, observed by survey questions. To validate the model, an empirical study was conducted, and 379 managers from medium-sized and large companies in Denmark participated. The estimation of the model shows that the model structure explains return on leadership very well, and the findings support the developed model. We are able to quantify the relationships from leadership to people results, customer results and key performance results and, in this way, the data presented here provide evidence that leadership is linked to key performance results. Several results and applications of the model are shown. The findings provide new knowledge about how leadership can be linked to performance, and how excellent leadership creates key performance results.

Innovative Human System Interfaces (HSIs) has been a major topic of research of the international Halden Reactor Project (HRP) for many years. Different design concepts have been addressed and prototypes have been implemented and evaluated in the experimental control room facility of HRP. Many of the concepts go far beyond traditional P&ID type displays, and utilize advanced computer graphics and animations. The paper briefly describes some of the concepts, their advantages and disadvantages experienced through evaluations and feedback from users.
A formulation for flexible multibody systems (MBS) is investigated, where rigid MBS substructures are coupled with flexible bodies described by a nonlinear finite element (FE) approach. Several aspects that turned out to be crucial for the presented approach are discussed. The system describing equations are given in differential algebraic form (DAE), where many sophisticated solvers exist. In this paper the performance of several solvers is investigated regarding their suitability for the application to the usually highly stiff DAE. The substructures are connected with each other by nonlinear algebraic constraint equations. Further, partial derivatives of the constraints are required, which often leads to extensive algebraic trans-formations. Handcoding of analytically determined derivatives is compared to an approach utilizing algorithmic differentiation.

The aim of the study is to predict potential evapotranspiration and crop water requirement using meteorological data from MIROC3.2 with A1B scenario. Increase of evapotranspiration due to temperature rise can be observed out of the analysis, while effective rainfall decreased. The evapotranspiration elevation results in large amount of crop water requirement in the paddy farming. It can be seen that rainfall intensification at non-irrigation period brings effective rainfall decrease, while contributes to higher demand of crop water at irrigation period. It is necessary to secure additional water resources to adapt the climate change. It is expected that estimation on potentialevapotranspiration in this study can be used for formulation of master plan of water resources.

The diesel engines was invented a little more than one hundred years ago and has ever since been developed for better fuel economy, increased power and smaller size. Thanks to its fuel economy, the diesel engine is today the dominating prime mover in many applications, such as smaller power plants, commercial ships, trains, trucks, buses and all kinds of mobile construction machinery. As engine for passenger cars, the diesel engine is steadily increasing its share of the market. However, its versatility and, consequently, large prevalence have led to environmental demands to its exhaust emissions, noise and vibration. This paper deals with the noise aspects of diesel engine designs of the so-called low speed two-stroke type installed in most large ships.
This paper utilizes 3D FEM to provide deeper insights about the structural behaviour of a 6.1 m span steel culvert, which was previously tested under extreme loading. The effect of different input parameters pertaining to the backfill soil has been investigated, where the structural response is compared to field measurements. The interface choice between the steel and soil materials was also studied. The results enabled to realize the major influence of the friction angle on the load effects. Moreover, the analyses showed some differences concerning the estimation of failure load, whereas reasons beyond this outcome were arguably presented and discussed.
Legal tech is commonly considered as the use of software and technology in the process of providing legal services. It is disrupting the method in which legal services are traditionally rendered, and under the buzz word "e-arbitration" also extends to the area of international commercial arbitration. This article aims to give an introduction into the most pertinent issues in "e-arbitration", starting with an attempt at defining the term "e-arbitration" and with an overview of some of the service providers. It goes on to address the use of information technology in international arbitration and concludes with an analysis of key legal issues arising when various aspects of the arbitral process are commenced, conducted or concluded in digital form.
