Perfluorinated compounds (PFCs) as environmental pollutants are an important environmental issue. However, little is known on the PFCs monitoring of sea waters around estuaries on the East and West Coasts of Korea. This study shows the monitoring results of PFCs in sea waters in these Coasts. Among 10 PFCs selected in this study, concentrations of perfluorooctanesulfonate (PFOS), perfluorooctanoate (PFOA), perfluorobutane sulfonate (PFBS), and perfluorohexane sulfonate (PFHxS) in the East Coast were 9.6-50.7 ng/L (total mean${\pm}$standard deviation: $26.14{\pm}12.66ng/L$), 13.79-44.58 ng/L ($27.95{\pm}11.41ng/L$), limit of quantification (LOQ)-2.6 ng/L ($0.96{\pm}1.15ng/L$), and 2.95-11.05 ng/L ($4.25{\pm}2.57ng/L$), respectively. In the West Coast, concentrations of PFOS, PFOA, PFBS, and PFHxS were 27.66-51.71 ng/L ($36.27{\pm}7.79ng/L$), 8.97-22.53 ng/L ($14.47{\pm}4.25ng/L$), LOQ-2.27 ng/L ($1.63{\pm}0.93ng/L$), and 3.0-7.66 ng/L ($4.27{\pm}1.49ng/L$), respectly. Other PFCs were below LOQ. The result of this study provides the distribution pattern of PFCs for assessing environmental pollution in two coastal areas of Korea.

This study is conducted to know the change in water environment of Lake Hwajinpo from 2000 to 2008 with physico-chemical parameters; salinity, dissolved oxygen, total phosphorus and total nitrogen and others. And zooplanktons and phytoplanktons were studied from 2007 to 2008. From the water quality data of Lake Hwajinpo from 2000 to 200S; water temperature, salinity, transparency, chemical oxygen demand and dissolved oxygen ranges are $2.8{\sim}29.4^{\circ}C$, 0.23~33.2‰, $0.2{\sim}1.8\;m$, $0.2{\sim}20.2\;mg\;L^{-1}$ and $0.1{\sim}17.4\;mg\;L^{-1}$ and the average values are $18.0^{\circ}C$, 15.7‰, 0.7 m, $5.7\;mg\;L^{-1}$ and $8.0\;mg\;L^{-1}$, respectively. Total phosphorus (TP) and total nitrogen (TN) ranges are $0.024{\sim}0.869\;mg\;L^{-1}$ (average 0.091) and $0.240{\sim}5.310\;mg\;L^{-1}$ (average 1.235). Average TN/TP ratio is 16.4. The annual variations in COD, TP, TN and Chl.${\alpha}$ are compared. COD in 2000 is $4.83\;mg\;L^{-1}$ and 2008 is $1.80\;mg\;L^{-1}$ which is reduced by $0.34\;mg\;L^{-1}$ every year. TP in 2000 is $0.07\;mg\;L^{-1}$ and 2008 is $0.05\;mg\;L^{-1}$ reduced gradually. Yearly reduction in TN is $0.09\;mg\;L^{-1}$, in 2000 and 2008 the values are $1.54\;mg\;L^{-1}$ and $0.77\;mg\;L^{-1}$ respectivly. Chl.${\alpha}$ in 2000 is $46.30\;{\mu}g\;L^{-1}$ and $5.78\;{\mu}g\;L^{-1}$ in 2008; yearly reduction is $4.50\;{\mu}g\;L^{-1}$. The tropic state index (TSI) in south and north parts of Lake Hwajinpo in 2000 are 67 and 63 which are reduced to 63 and 59 in 2008 respectively. North and south part of Lake Hwajinpo have 67 species of phytoplankton under 47 families in 2007 and 2008. Dominant species in south part in 2007 are; Asterococcus superbus in May, Lyngbya sp. in September and Trachelomonas spp. in November and in 2008 Anabaena spiroides in August are abundant and varies with time. Zooplankton species in Lake Hwajinpo are 25 of 25 families. Dominant species in south part in May and August 2007 and May and November in 2008 Copepoda larvae and in September 2007 Protozoa spp. of Protozoan and Brachionus plicatilis and Brachionus urceolaris of Cladocera in August 2008. Dominant species in north part Asplanchna sp. of Cladecera in August and November 2007 and rest of the time are larvae of Copepoda. In this way, the water quality of Lake Hwajinpo is changing with slow rate in the long period specially nutrients concentration (TP, TN etc) is decreasing.
Leaf mesophyll protoplasts of Dianthus superbus were cultured in MSP1 liquid medium supplemented with 0.5 mg/L BAP, 2.0 mg/L NAA and 9% mannitol. Protoplast-derived colonies were formed after 3 to 4 weeks of culture in the dark at 27$^{\circ}C$. These colonies were kept under continuous illumination (21.5 $\mu$E. m-2 sec-1) for 2 weeks and finally most of the colonies became green microcalli, about 3 mm in diameter. When green microcalli were transferred to MS solidified medium with 2.0 mg/L 2,4-D, they formed embryogenic calli after 4 week of culture. These calli were then transferred onto $N_{6}$ medium containing 0.1mg/L 2,4-D, 0.1 mg/L NAA, 2.0 mg/L kinetin and 2.0 g/L casein hydrolysate and cultured under illumination. After 5 weeks of culture the calli gave rise to multiple shoots of 10 to 15 per callus. Upon transfer onto MS medium containing 2.0 mg/L NAA, they were noted. The regenerates were successfully transplanted into potting soil.
Conditions for efficient organogenesis and plant regeneration from Dianthus gratianopol suspension cultured cells were established. Shoot-forming calli of glossy surface, pale green and knobby type were selected from leaf explant-derived calli and were suspension-subcultured every week in CP liquid medium with 1.0 mg/L 2,4-D and 0.5 mg/L BAP. Combinations of 1.0 mg/L 2,4-D and 0.5 mg/L BAP, and 1.5 mg/L 2,4-D and 0.5 mg/L BAP were effective for the induction of regenerative callus from the suspension cultured cell clusters. Multiple shoot primordia were initiated from the green spots of these regenerative callus and formed shoots on MS medium with 1.0 mg/L TDZ and 0.5 mg/L PAA. Shoot regeneration frequency (calli regenerating at least one shoot) was about 87%. For plant regeneration, proliferated shoots were excised and transferred to MS medium with 0.1 mg/L NAA for root initiation after 9 weeks of culture. The regenerants were potted in soil and formed the flowering buds and petals. Also, adventitious shoots were formed from the excised green shoot primordia of regenerative callus and these shoots proliferated successfully and regenerated to whole plants.
Let $g(n,\;l_1,\;l_2,\;d,\;t,\;q)$ be the number of general4-regular graphs on n labelled vertices with $l_1+2l_2$ loops, d double edges, t triple edges and q quartet edges. We use inclusion and exclusion with five types of properties to determine the asymptotic behavior of $g(n,\;l_1,\;l_2,\;d,\;t,\;q)$ and hence that of g(2n), the total number of general 4-regular graphs where $l_1,\;l_2,\;d,\;t\;and\;q\;=\;o(\sqrt{n})$, respectively. We show that almost all general 4-regular graphs are 2-connected. Moreover, we determine the asymptotic numbers of general 4-regular graphs with given connectivities.
Radon concentration was measured in a total of 5,453 groundwater samples from wells across Korea. The radon concentrations showed the values ranging from 0.1 Bq/L to 7,218.7 Bq/L, with a median of 48.8 Bq/L which is lower than those of other countries having similar geological conditions. The distribution of radon concentrations was lognormal. The median value is high in the granite areas (63.5-105.1 Bq/L) while it is low in the sedimentary rocks and Cheju volcanic area (16.0-20.3 Bq/L). When grouping the groundwater with well depth, the median radon value is high in weathering and/or upper bedrock zone (61.4 Bq/L) while it is low in alluvium and/or weathering zone (28.5 Bq/L). About 17.7% of the total samples exceeded 148 Bq/L of USEPA guideline value. The exceeding radon ratio more than 148 Bq/L in groundwater is highest in Jurassic granite area, however, the exceeding radon rates more than 300 Bq/L and 500 Bq/L are highest in CGRA area.

This study aims to suggest a suitable soil thickness and soil mixture ratio of a green roof system by verifying the growth of Chrysanthemum zawadskii var. coreanum as affected by different green roof systems using rainwater. The experimental planting grounds were made with different soil thicknesses(15cm, 25cm) and soil mixing ratios (SL, $P_7P_1L_2$, $P_6P_2L_2$, $P_5P_3L_2$, $P_4P_4L_2$) and with excellent drought tolerance. Ornamental value Chrysanthemum zawadskii var. coreanum was planted. The change in plant height, green coverage ratio, chlorophyll content, fresh weight, dry weight, and dry T/R ratio of Chrysanthemum zawadskii var. coreanum were investigated from April to October 2009. For 15cm soil thickness, the plant height of Chrysanthemum zawadskii var. coreanum was not significantly different as affected by the soil mixing ratio. However, it was found to be higher in the amended soil mixture, $P_7P_1L_2$, $P_6P_2L_2$, $P_5P_3L_2$ and $P_4P_4L_2$ than in the sandy loam soil, as it was SL overall. For 25cm soil the plant height differences were in order to SL < $P_7P_1L_2$, $P_6P_2L_2$, $P_5P_3L_2$ < $P_4P_4L_2$. The green coverage ratio was observed not to be different by soil mixing ratio with soil thickness of 15cm, but, the lowest green coverage ratio in the SL. In the 25cm soil thickness, the green coverage ratio was 86-89% with a good coverage rate overall. The change in chlorophyll contents with 15cm soil thickness was found to be the highest in the SL treatment and the lowest in the $P_5P_3L_2$ treatment. For 25cm thickness, the highest value was in the $P_4P_4L_2$ and SL, and the lowest in the$P_7P_1L_2$. Fresh weight and dry weight were larger in soil with 25cm thickness. Therefore, the growth of Chrysanthemum zawadskii var. coreanum as affected by a different green roof system for using rainwater was higher in soil with 25cm thickness than 15cm, and in PPL amended soil than in sandy loam.

Alcoholic distillery waste was utilized as dual purposes to produce citric acid and to reduce the amount of waste to be treated. Enzyme and acid hydrolysis of this waste were studied to suggest effective way of present purpose. Enzymatic hydrolysis of this naked barley alcoholic distillery waste by $\alpha$-and $\beta$-amylase gave glucose as 8g/l concentration at $55^{\circ}C$ for 6 hours, which produced 1g/l citric acid and 5.33g/l mycelial. This waste material hydrolyzed with 25% HCl at $120^{\circ}C$ showed 21.5g/l glucose and produced 1.75g/l citric acid with 4.9g/1 mycelial. The glucose concentration was decreased to 3.44g/l by further 2nd acid hydrolysis because the monosugars were decomposed at prolonged hydrolysis conditions. The addition of 3g/l $NH_4NO_3$ increased the mycelial growth but reduced the amount of citric acid formed. The formation of citric acid was increased at low concentration of manganese ion.
The hormonal regulation of organ differentiation was investigated in the tissue culture of sweet potato. Embryogenic callus was induced from shoot tips cultured on MS medium supplemented with 1 mg/L 2,4-D. When embryogenic callus was transferred to medium containing 0.1 mg/L GA$_4$, it proliferation was stimulated. The callus gave rise to plantlets when cultured on medium containing 0.1 mg/L BA. Addition of 0.1 mg/L jasmonic acid or 0.01 mg/L brassinolide to medium was effective for the development of healthy normal plantlets.
