Computational fluid dynamic simulation is performed for the floating turbulent premixed flames stabilized in stagnation flows of Cho et al. [1] and Cheng and Shepherd [2]. They are both in the wrinkled flamelet regime far from the extinction limit with $u'/S^{0}_{L}$ less than unity. The turbulent flux is given in the first moment closure as a sum of the classical gradient flux due to turbulent motions and the countergradient flux due to thermal expansion. The parameter $N_{B}'s$ are greater than unity with the countergradient flux dominant over the gradient flux. The countergradient flux is assumed to be zero in $\bar{c}<0.05$. The flame surface density is modeled as a symmetric parabolic function with respect to $\bar{c}$. The product of the maximum flame surface density and the mean stretch factor is considered as a tuning constant to match the flame location. Good agreement is achieved with the measured $\tilde{w}$ and $\bar{c}$ profiles along the axis in both flames.
This paper illustrates the results of a series of seismic geotechnical centrifuge experiments to explore dynamic structure-soil-structure interaction (SSSI) of two structures (named S1 and S2) installed on ground surface. A dense homogeneous ground is prepared in an equivalent shear beam (ESB) container. Two structural models are designed to elicit soil-foundation-structure interaction (SFSI) with different masses, heights, and dynamic characteristics. Five experimental tests are carried out for: (1) two reference responses of the two structures and (2) the response of two structures closely located at three ranges of distance. It is found that differential settlements of both structures increase and the smaller structure (S2) inversely rotates out of the other (S1) when they interact with each other. S2 structure experiences less settlement and uplift when at a close distance to the S1 structure. Furthermore, the S1 structure, which is larger one, shows a larger rocking and a smaller sliding response due to the SSSI effects, while S2 structure tends to slide more than that in the reference test, which is illustrated by an increase in sliding response and rocking stiffness as well as a decrease in moment-to-shear ratio (M/H·L) of the S2 structure.

The mechanical response of concrete-filled steel tubular (CFST) columns subjected to pure compression or uniaxial bending was studied in depth over the last decades. However, the available research results on CFST columns under biaxial bending are still scarce and the lack of experimental tests for this loading situation is evident. At the same time, the design provisions in Eurocode 4 Part 1.1 for verifying the stability of CFST columns under biaxial bending make use of a simplistic interaction curve, which needs to be revised. This paper presents the outcome of a numerical investigation on slender CFST columns subjected to biaxial bending. Eccentricities differing in minor and major axis, as well as varying end moment ratios are considered in the numerical model. A parametric study is conducted for assessing the current design guidelines of EN1994-1-1. Different aspect ratios, member slenderness, reinforcement ratios and load eccentricities are studied, covering both constant and variable bending moment distribution. The numerical results are subsequently compared to the design provisions of EN1994-1- 1, showing that the current interaction equation results overly conservative. An alternative interaction equation is developed by the authors, leading to a more accurate yet conservative proposal.
Fragility functions are determined for braced steel moment frames (SMFs) with plans such as square-, T-, L-, U-, trapezoidal-, and semicircular-shaped, subjected to blast. The frames are designed for gravity and seismic loads, but not necessarily for the blast loads. The blast load is computed for a wide range of scenarios involving different parameters, viz. charge weight, standoff distance, and blast location relative to plan of the structure followed by nonlinear dynamic analysis of the frames. The members failing in rotation lead to partial collapse due to plastic mechanism formation. The probabilities of partial collapse of the SMFs, with and without bracing system, due to the blast loading are computed to plot fragility curves. The charge weight and standoff distance are taken as Gaussian random input variables. The extent of propagation of the uncertainties in the input parameters onto the response quantities and fragility of the SMFs is assessed by computing Sobol sensitivity indices. The probabilistic analysis is conducted using Monte Carlo simulations. The frames have least failure probability for blasts occurring in front of their corners or convex face. Further, the unbraced frames are observed to have higher fragility as compared to counterpart braced frames for far-off detonations.

This study was mainly conducted to derive the design drought rainfall by the consecutive duration using probability weighted moments with rainfall in the regional drought frequency analysis. Selecting the drought rainfall series by the consecutive durations of drought observed for the long period all over the regions in Korea, optimal regionalization of the drought rainfall was classified by the climatologically and geographically homogeneous regions. Using the L-moment ratio and Kolmogorov- Smimov test, resonable frequency distribution for the drought rainfall was selected by the regions and consecutive periods of drought. Design drought rainfalls by the regions and consecutive durations were derived and compared by at-site and regional drought frequency analysis using the method of L-moments.
An earthquake with local magnitude $(M_L)$ 3.7 on December 9, 2000 occurred offshore Yeongdeok area, South Korea. In case of applying Chang and Baag (2006) crustal velocity model, the epicenter is $36.4462^{\circ}N\;and\;129.9789^{\circ}E$, which belongs to the inside of the Korean Peninsula Continental Shelf. Although we use the modified model reducing crustal thickness of Chang and Baag (2006) model by 5 km considering the transition from continental crust to oceanic crust in the East Sea, the epicenter was little changed. We carried out the waveform inversion analysis to estimate focal depth and focal mechanism of this event. The focal depth is estimated to be 11 ~ 12 km. The seismic moment is estimated to be $1.0{\times}10^{15}N{\cdot}m$, and this value corresponds to the moment magnitude $(M_W)$ 3.9. The offshore Yeongdeok event including May 29, 2004 offshore Uljin one show typical thrust faulting, and the direction of P-axis is ESE-WNW. The moment magnitude estimated by the spectral analysis is 4.0, which is similar to that by the waveform inversion analysis. Average stress drop is estimated to be 3.4 MPa.

Current specification prescribes that upper and lower reinforcement mat is required in the same amount to resist negative and positive moment in bridge decks. But the negative moment is much smaller than positive moment because the actual behavior of decks consists of local deflection of slab and global deflection of girder. From this study, the analysis method based on harmonic analysis and slope-deflection method was developed and verified by finite element method. The negative moment, obtained from this method, were smaller than those computed based on the KHBDC specifications as much as 40∼50% in the middle of bridge. The amount of reduction of the design negative moment was shown herein to be dependent on variable parameters as shape factor(S/L) of slab, relative stiffness ratio of girder and deck slab, and so on. This investigations indicate that the upper reinforcement mat to resist negative moment can be removed. But further experimental study is required to consider durability and serviceability. From this new design concept, the construction expense can be reduced and the problem of decreasing durability resulting from corrosion of upper reinforcement steel settled.
The zone-conditioned CMC equations are derived by taking an unconditional average of the generic conservation equations multiplied by delta and Heaviside functions in terms of mixture fraction and reaction progress variable. The resulting equations are essentially in the same form as the single zone CMC equations except for separate flow fields for burned and unburned gas. The zone-conditioned two-fluid equations are applied to a stagnating turbulent premixed flame brush of Cheng and Shepherd[5l. It is shown that the flame stretch factor is of crucial importance to accurately reproduce the measured mean reaction progress variable and conditional velocities. Further work is in progress for the relationship between surface and volume averages and extension to partially premixed combustion on the basis of a triple flame structure, e. g. in a lifted turbulent diffusion flame.

The Exponentiated Gamma (EG) distribution is one of the important families of distributions in lifetime tests. In this paper, a new generalized version of this distribution which is called kumaraswamy Exponentiated Gamma (KEG) distribution is introduced. A new distribution is more flexible and has some interesting properties. A comprehensive mathematical treatment of the KEG distribution is provided. We derive the $r^{th}$ moment and moment generating function of this distribution. Moreover, we discuss the maximum likelihood estimation of the distribution parameters. Finally, an application to real data sets is illustrated.

Motivated by the recent work of Cordeiro and Castro (2011), we study the Kumaraswamy exponentiated Frechet distribution (KEF). We derive some mathematical properties of the (KEF) including moment generating function, moments, quantile function and incomplete moment. We provide explicit expressions for the density function of the order statistics and their moments. In addition, the method of maximum likelihood and least squares and weighted least squares estimators are discuss for estimating the model parameters. A real data set is used to illustrate the importance and flexibility of the new distribution.
