A Study on the Types and Interior Space Planning of Small House for University Students (대학생을 위한 소형주거 유형 및 실내공간계획에 관한 연구)

  • Now, 1 person or 2 people households have increased in Korea. But the quality of living environment of small houses and small houses supply for university students are insufficient. The purpose of this study is to propose the types and spaces of small houses, and the elements and types of interior space planning of small houses for university students. This study surveyed 293 university students lived in metropolitan area. And the methods of this study are literature review and survey. Through this study, the conclusions of this study are as follows. First, the types of small houses are 9 types, and the types of interior space planning of small houses are 10 types. Seconds, the introduction of natural elements and spatial separation based on openness in small houses for university students are necessary. Thirds, the spatial planning for security and safety in small houses for university students are necessary. Fourth, the planning of various storage space and space maintenance of small houses are necessary. Fifths, generally, the consideration of functional elements as 'safety', 'storage', and natural elements as 'ventilation', 'view' and 'daylighting' in small houses are necessary for university students.

A study on the smoking status of the university students in some regions (일부지역 대학생들의 흡연 실태조사)

  • Objectives : The objective of this research was to investigate the smoking state of students in Y university, located in Youngdong-gun, Choungbuk. Methods : This research was conducted toward 311 number of students in the university. The questionnaire basically consists of the status of smoking, the behavior of smoker and non-smoker. Results : 58.2% of the male respondents were current smoker, but 72.4% of the females were non-smoker. 58.2% of the current smokers were 22 to 25 aged group. The highest rate of time to begin with smoking was in 15 to 18 years old and the most of people consumed 11 to 20 pieces of cigarettes per day. 48.9% of the students have an experience to keep no smoking more than one month. There were reverse correlation(r=-.335) between the status of smoking and sex, and positive correlation(r=.264) between the status of smoking and an age. Of the people experiencing non-smoking, 55.3% were smoking 'everyday' and 44.7% were 'sometimes'. The biggest part of the reason why stopped smoking was for 'the advices of other people'(25.5%), and 'Harm to health' and 'Social atmosphere of non-smoking'(21.3%) were following. Conclusions : In the university students, current smokers among male students were still high smoking rate. Therefore Dental Hygiene students in the same University have to provide the quit smoking education and oral health care methods for current smokers.

Perception and Satisfaction of Free Foodservice in Male Middle School Students in Chungnam (충남 일부지역 남자 중학생의 무상급식에 대한 인식 및 만족도)

  • The purpose of this research was to investigate perception, necessity, and satisfaction of a free foodservice in male middle school students. This study was conducted at male middle schools with paid foodservice (PFS group, 250 students) and with free foodservice (FFS group, 250 students) in Chungnam. Average age of students in the PFS group was 13.1 while that of FFS students was 12.8 years. Exactly 88% of PFS students and 94% of FFS students responded that school foodservice is necessary, which was a significant difference (P<0.05). As the reason for participating in foodservice, about 32% of the PFS students answered the school's request while 33.6% of FFS students answered nutrition, showing a significant difference (P<0.001). Exactly 72.8% of PFS and 96.4% of FFS knew about FFS (P<0.001). More PFS students (86.4%) than FFS students (66%) answered they would not participate in foodservice if the FFS would be introduced and the quality of meal service would deteriorate. After initiation to FFS, there were significant differences in assessment of foodservice: 77.6% of PFS students answered expected that the quality of foodservice would degrade, whereas 74.4% of FFS students answered that quality would not degrade (P<0.001). Satisfaction of foodservice was 2.3 points for FFS students, which was significantly lower than the 2.5 points for PFS students (P<0.001). To sum up assessment of foodservice was positive, whereas satisfaction was not significantly different between PFS and FFS. Based on this research, households, schools, and governments should promote FFS in order to diminish financial pressure for students.

  • This study examines the features of Korean EFL students' letter writing at a university in Korea. The data comprised interviews and examples of letter writing. The findings revealed that students engaged in unique ways in which they oriented their meaning-making to broad views concerning rhetorics and components. Students' approaches involved a particular context and the recontextualized English formal letter, which reflects their textual interactions in writing. This paper concludes that specific discourse communities, life-world, and learning purposes impact on students' English writing.

University Students' Perspective towards the Atmospherics of Theme Restaurants in Selangor, Malaysia

  • This study explored the factors affecting university students' perspectives towards a theme restaurant. Atmospherics has been regarded as one of the factors that affect the satisfaction of students as it would trigger emotional responses within the theme restaurant, determining the behavioral intention of the students, whether they would return to the restaurant or not. The findings could be referred by the theme restaurant managers to understand more about customers' needs and wants in terms of physical environment of the theme restaurant. Qualitative research method was applied. 10 face-to-face interviews were conducted and the research context was in the theme restaurants around Selangor, Malaysia. As a result, this study has found that the physical environment of the theme restaurant affected students' satisfaction towards their dining experiences as well as elicits emotional responses among the students during their dine-in processes in the theme restaurants. Both satisfaction and emotional responses of the students were found out to be imposing significant effects on the behavioral intention of the university students. Hence, this study provided assistance for the theme restaurant operators to understand their customers of university students and make more effective managing strategies.

A Study of the Effects of Dietary Behavior on the Nutritional Status of University Students

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of dietary behavior on the nutritional status of university students in Korea. A dietary intake survey of 603 university students (223 males and 380 females) was conducted using a 24-hour recall method. The resulting data on dietary behavior and nutrient intakes were analyzed by the SAS program package. The main results were as follows : 1) Most of the subjects were in their twenties and no obese cases were found. 2) Dietary intake data showed that, except for vitamin C in the female students, the average daily intakes of most nutrients did lot meet the Korean Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDA). The study also showed that most of the subjects, especially the female students, were concerned about having satisfactory physical appearances. Fat provided 25% of the daily energy intake, and this level was higher than the 20% recommended by the Korean Dietary Guidelines. In the female students, the iron intake from animal foods was lower than that from plant foods. 3) Male students were not very serious about healthy eating. However, the female group, who obtained a high score in dietary behavior, consumed more vegetables and had higher intakes of energy, protein, Ca, p, vitamin A, and vitamin C than the male group, even though they did not meet the Korean RDA in most nutrients. Energy intake from fats, as a percent of total energy intake, was lower than in the group of females who obtained higher stores in dietary behavior than the other groups. To sum up, the university students surveyed in this study were found to have the typical dietary behavior of young adults, such as frequent eating out and snacking. Female students were extremely conscious of their body images this can exert an important direct influence on their dietary intakes and health status. It is very important for university students to develop healthy lifestyles and desirable dietary behaviors, to best enable them to continue to lead a healthy lift: in their later years.

A Longitudinal Trend Analysis of Affective Characteristics related to Science (초.중.고 학생들의 과학 정의적 특성 추이 분석을 위한 종단적 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to longitudinally analyze Korean students' trend on science-related affective characteristics and provide descriptive data for improving the quality of Korean science education. In this longitudinal study. 3603 students and 4737 students were sampled in elementary and secondary schools. respectively in January 1997 and March 1998. The result showed that students' affective characteristics were decreased with statistical significance(p<0.05) during elementary and junior high school periods. but students' affective characteristics were increased during high school period. Affective characteristics of male were significantly higher than those of females' (p<0.05). Difference on affective characteristics between female and male students was being decreased by increasing grades. Students' affective characteristics in metropolitan areas were significantly higher than those in regional areas and difference between them was increased in 1999 comparing to 1997. The students' affective characteristics in 1999 were lower than those in 1997 totally.

Factors Influencing Depression among Nursing Students (간호대학생의 우울정도 및 영향요인)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the level and factors influencing depression among nursing students. Methods: The data were collected from nursing students attending 3 universities who expressed a willingness to participate in the study through a questionnaire which surveyed them about depression, stress, social support, self-efficacy, self-esteem, and wellbeing in May, 2012. The collected data from 235 nursing students were analyzed using a SPSSWIN 19.0. Results: The mean score of depression (using MDI) among nursing students was 16.7, which denotes a minor depressive mood. 49.1% of variance with regard to depression among nursing students was explained by stress, self-esteem, wellbeing and self-efficacy. Conclusion: There is a need to develop a depression prevention program for nursing students and to reduce stress and increase self-esteem, wellbeing and self-efficacy in order to establish an effective program.

Scientifically Gifted Students' Conceptions of Nature of Science

  • The purpose of this study is to assess gifted students' conceptions about nature of science (NOS). Scientifically gifted students who are expected to be professionals in the future should possess an adequate understanding of NOS that if firm foundation for scientific career. 47 volunteers from the 8th grade gifted science program in Seoul National University Gifted Education Center participated to answer questions inquiring NOS conceptions. Their answers were analyzed and compared to different groups such as non-gifted students and younger gifted students. As a result, gifted students' understanding of NOS appeared to surpass that of non-gifted students in many aspects and it seemed that gifted students formed their NOS view in early ages. The relative weakness in their NOS conceptions was found in understanding of scientific enterprise. Their strong misunderstanding about obstacles that minority people would face in scientific enterprise was noticed, too. They admitted that there has been discrimination in scientific enterprise, but they wrongly believed that outstanding scientists cannot be affected by it. Further studies will be required to probe more.

Using Status of Computer and Internet in University Students (대학생들의 컴퓨터 및 인터넷 이용 실태)

  • Purpose. The purpose of this study was to determine the using state of computers and internet in university students. Method. This research conducts a survey of 50 university students. Researcher personally visited lecture room to explain the purpose of research. The questionnaire was made by the researcher and consists of seven questions. Result. In this study, university students of 74% using computer more than one hour per day. The most of purpose of internet use was internet surfing and writing a document. University students of 42% were play games with internet. Conclusion. The continuous tracking is need of computer and internet use and need to be healthy for the use of guidance of university students.
