This study was performed to analyze the degree of rainfalls, the duration time of rainfalls, the inclination of slopes and other damage causes depending on the ground condition, when the landslide occurs by the rainfall. Based on that, a big and a small model soil box were compared to examine the features of landslides, which is ultimately for forecasting landslides. An artificial rainfall device was installed in the model box, and the large model box has a real-size slope in it. Also, various measures were fulfilled such as collapse forms, a pore pressure, an earth pressure and moisture contents in order to analyze the effect of the model box size on the landslide mechanism and to test the usability of a small model box as a material for landslide experiments.
The transition is the zone where support stiffness suddenly increases in the railway industry. If the support stiffness increases, differential settlement will occur at the transition due to difference of stiffness, and the differential settlement causes problems for the train running safety and the roadbed that supports the track. In particular, a study on differential settlement at bridge-earthwork transition was only conducted to considering railway load in most cases. However, these studies have not taken account of earthquake despite earthquake has been occurred frequently in the recent, and it is necessary to consider earthquake. Therefore, in this study numerical analysis has been performed by changing the inclination of approach block, which determines the shape of the transition, and earthwork in order to verify the effect of the shape of the transition on the dynamic behavior at the bridge-earthwork transition. The result shows that the dynamic behavior at the bridge-earthwork transition was affected by the shape of transition.

Background: The purpose of this study was to develop a sit-to-stand transfer assistive device, and to conduct a feasibility test. Design: A technical note. Methods and results: In this study, we developed a sit-to-stand transfer assistive device for the elderly and the disabled who have difficulty standing up independently from sitting positions. The sit-to-stand transfer assistive device allows the user to transfer the weight from a sitting position to a standing position while shifting the weight forward by grabbing and pulling a support stand. Ten healthy adults participated in the feasibility test of the device. Each participant used the developed sit-to-stand transfer assistive device and investigated supplementation through a brief interview. As a result of the feasibility test, the opinion was that the device could assist the sit-to-stand transfer to some extent. There were opinions that it needed a function to adjust the height of the knee protective plate in the sitting position according to the user's physical characteristics. Because of the inconvenience of operating the lock device for fixing the position and adjusting inclination, there was an opinion that the improvement for a locking device is needed. There were opinions that it would be better to reduce the size of the device due to its inconvenience of portability. Conclusion: In this study, we developed the sit-to-stand transfer assistive device for the elderly and the disabled who have difficulty standing up independently from sitting positions. In addition, it is considered that the upgrade of the device is necessary for the future since there are supplementary opinions on some points.

Objective: This study proposes a methodology to analyze important variables that have a significant impact on the putting direction prediction using a machine learning-based putting direction prediction model trained with IMU sensor data. Method: Putting data were collected using an IMU sensor measuring 12 variables from 6 adult males in their 20s at K University who had no golf experience. The data was preprocessed so that it could be applied to machine learning, and a model was built using five machine learning algorithms. Finally, by comparing the performance of the built models, the model with the highest performance was selected as the proposed model, and then 12 variables of the IMU sensor were applied one by one to analyze important variables affecting the learning performance. Results: As a result of comparing the performance of five machine learning algorithms (K-NN, Naive Bayes, Decision Tree, Random Forest, and Light GBM), the prediction accuracy of the Light GBM-based prediction model was higher than that of other algorithms. Using the Light GBM algorithm, which had excellent performance, an experiment was performed to rank the importance of variables that affect the direction prediction of the model. Conclusion: Among the five machine learning algorithms, the algorithm that best predicts the putting direction was the Light GBM algorithm. When the model predicted the putting direction, the variable that had the greatest influence was the left-right inclination (Roll).
Objective: This study aimed to estimate the clinical effects of different types of bone-anchored maxillary protraction devices by using a network meta-analysis. Methods: We searched seven databases for randomized and controlled clinical trials that compared bone-anchored maxillary protraction with tooth-anchored maxillary protraction interventions or untreated groups up to May 2021. After literature selection, data extraction, and quality assessment, we calculated the mean differences, 95% confidence intervals, and surface under the cumulative ranking scores of eleven indicators. Statistical analysis was performed using R statistical software with the GeMTC package based on the Bayesian framework. Results: Six interventions and 667 patients were involved in 18 studies. In comparison with the tooth-anchored groups, the bone-anchored groups showed significantly more increases in Sella-Nasion-Subspinale (°), Subspinale-Nasion-Supramentale(°) and significantly fewer increases in mandibular plane angle and the labial proclination angle of upper incisors. In comparison with the control group, Sella-Nasion-Supramentale(°) decreased without any statistical significance in all treated groups. IMPA (angle of lower incisors and mandibular plane) decreased in groups with facemasks and increased in other groups. Conclusions: Bone-anchored maxillary protraction can promote greater maxillary forward movement and correct the Class III intermaxillary relationship better, in addition to showing less clockwise rotation of mandible and labial proclination of upper incisors. However, strengthening anchorage could not inhibit mandibular growth better and the lingual inclination of lower incisors caused by the treatment is related to the use of a facemask.
Objective: This study aimed to systematically analyze the effect and stability of miniscrew-assisted rapid palatal expansion (MARPE) to provide a reference for the clinical treatment of patients with maxillary transverse deficiency (MTD). Methods: We searched PubMed, Science Direct, Web of Science, Embase, Cochrane Library, CNKI, and Wanfang Database for relevant studies published before February 18, 2021 and selected them according to the eligibility criteria. The Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews (version 5.1.0) criteria were used for the quality assessment of randomized controlled trials, while the scoring protocol of the methodological index for non-randomized studies was used for non-randomized controlled trials. Statistical analysis was performed using the RevMan5.3 software. Results: All the included studies showed a relatively high success rate of expansion. The changes in both the intermolar and alveolar widths after MARPE were statistically significant. MARPE exhibited greater skeletal expansion effects than did conventional RPE. The midpalatal suture was opened in parallel after MARPE. A small amount of relapse was observed 1 year after expansion. MARPE caused tooth inclination and a decrease in alveolar height, but it was less significant than in conventional RPE. Conclusions: MARPE may be an effective treatment modality for patients with MTD. It causes great transverse skeletal expansion in late adolescence. In comparison to conventional RPE, MARPE has lower detrimental periodontal effects and has certain clinical advantages.
Large scale model tests and numerical analyses are performed to investigate the stress distribution of pillar due to surface loading nearby two-arch tunnel which is constructed in the regularly jointed rocks. It is observed that the influence of discontinuities on the stress distribution in the discontinuous rock mass and the underground stresses induced by surface loading are greater than those of linear elastic theory. Especially, lines of equal stresses are developed to the direction of inclination according to the inclined grade. In cases of discontinuities imbedded in parallel with or vertical to the ground, the pressure bulbs are formed symmetrically, however, the inclined ones result in stress distribution in parallel with and vertical to the planes of discontinuities. Results indicated that stress distribution is seriously affected by the angle of discontinuity. When stresses propagating to the pillar need to be estimated, relative location of surface loading, grade of discontinuous plane, and location of two-arch tunnel should be carefully considered.
Objective: To evaluate the null hypothesis that there is no difference in a set of clinical predictors of potentially impacted canines between low-risk patients with and without displaced canines. Methods: The normal canine position group consisted of 30 patients with 60 normally erupting canines ranked in sector I (age, 9.30 ± 0.94 years). The displaced canine group comprised 30 patients with 41 potentially impacted canines ranked in sectors II to IV (age, 9.46 ± 0.78 years). Maxillary lateral incisor crown angulation, inclination, rotation, width, height, and shape, as well as palatal depth, arch length, width, and perimeter composed a set of clinical predictors, which were evaluated on digital dental casts. Statistical analyses consisted of group comparisons and variable correlations (p < 0.05). Results: There was a significant association between sex and mesially displaced canines. Unilateral canine displacement was more prevalent than bilateral displacement. The crown of the maxillary lateral incisors was significantly angulated more mesially and rotated mesiolabially in low-risk patients with displaced canines, who also had a shallower palate and shorter anterior dental arch length. Lateral incisor crown angulation and rotation, as well as palatal depth and arch length, were significantly correlated with the canine displacement severity. Conclusions: The null hypothesis was rejected. Maxillary lateral incisor angulation inconsistent with the "ugly duckling" stage as well as a shallow palate and short arch length are clinical predictors that can significantly contribute to the early screening of ectopic canines in low-risk patients.

In this study, the stability of fishing boat inducing the change of fishing lamp in accordance with the installation of induction lamp in comparison with metal halide lamp was investigated. Inclining test for 8.55 ton class of hair-tail angling fishing boat was performed in order to find a GM and light weight. A stability calculation of the target fishing boat on the basis of KST-SHIP program was evaluated. The stability of the fishing boat with a metal halide lamp such as induction lamp according to the result obtained by the inclining test is slightly different, and the stability is not so much affected. Due to the induction lamp installation, the wind area increased by about 3.178 m2. Before installing the induction fishing lamp, G0M was found to be 0.209 at full load departure and 0.296 at departure from fishing ground. After installing the induction lamp, the full load departure condition is 0.178 and the fishing ground departure condition is 0.260. The G0M value before and after installation of the induction fishing lamp shows a difference of about 3% at the full load departure condition. The value of the critical angle of inclination definition showed a difference of about 16%. Despite these differences, it is lower than the regulations; it was confirmed that there will be no significant difference unless it is in an overloaded state.

Objective: The growth and development of the mandible strongly depend on modeling changes occurring at its ramus. Here, we investigated covariance patterns between the morphology of the ramus and the rest of the face. Methods: Lateral cephalograms of 159 adults (55 males and 104 females) with no history of orthodontic treatment were collected. Geometric morphometrics with sliding semi-landmarks was used. The covariance between the ramus and face was investigated using a two-block partial least squares analysis (PLS). Sexual dimorphism and allometry were also assessed. Results: Differences in the divergence of the face and anteroposterior relationship of the jaws accounted for 24.1% and 21.6% of shape variation in the sample, respectively. Shape variation was greater in the sagittal plane for males than for females (30.7% vs. 17.4%), whereas variation in the vertical plane was similar for both sexes (23.7% for males and 25.4% for females). Size-related allometric differences between the sexes accounted for the shape variation to a maximum of 6% regarding the face. Regarding the covariation between the shapes of the ramus and the rest of the face, wider and shorter rami were associated with a decreased lower anterior facial height as well as a prognathic mandible and maxilla (PLS 1, 45.5% of the covariance). Additionally, a more posteriorly inclined ramus in the lower region was correlated with a Class II pattern and flat mandibular plane. Conclusions: The width, height, and inclination of the ramus were correlated with facial shape changes in the vertical and sagittal planes.
