  • We consider M/M/1 feedback queues with multi-class customers. We assume that different classes of customers have different arrival rates, service rates and feedback probabilities. Using the h-transforms of McDonald(999) we derive an importance sampling estimator for an overflow probability that the total number of customers in the system reaches a high level before emptying.

  • This paper presents the result of the estimation of the power interruption costs of Korean commercial customers. Commercial customers are usually located in urban areas and considered very important because a power interruption on them can expand to additional damage to related users. Their power interruption costs were calculated through a survey with the process of data selection. Also, the power interruption cost for each customer's business type was calculated and compared with that of foreign cases.

  • The objectives of this study were to: a) examine foreign customers’ satisfaction and expectations for the food and service attributes of Korean restaurants located in the U.S., b) measure the gap between the satisfaction and expectations for food and service attributes, c) analyze through IPA analysis the crucial attributes needing improvement in order to minimize the discrepancy between customers’ expectations and performance, and d) analyze the effects of factors related to the food and service attributes on overall customer satisfaction in regard to Korean restaurant selection. A total of 255 American customers who had visited four Korean restaurants located within metropolitan and rural areas of the U.S. were surveyed for this study. Statistical analyses, including t-tests, factor analysis, and multiple regression, were performed using the SPSS statistical package (12.0). The American customers’ overall satisfaction of the food and services offered by the Korean restaurants was relatively high, with the exception of tangible service attributes such as comfortable chairs, restroom cleanliness, and restaurant interior. The urban foreign customers, however, were dissatisfied with the use of healthful ingredients in Korean food, because their expectation level toward this aspect exceeded their satisfaction level. In terms of Korean restaurant selection, tangible services related to the restaurant facilities were identified as the critical factor having an effect on American customer satisfaction.

  • The recent economic crisis not only reduces the profit of department stores but also incurs the significance losses caused by the increasing late-payment rate of credit cards. Under this pressure, the scope of credit prediction needs to be broadened from the simple prediction of whether this customer has a good credit or not to the accurate prediction of how much profit can be gained from this customer. This study classifies the delinquent customers of credit card in a Korean department store into homogeneous clusters. Using this information, this study analyzes the repayment patterns for each cluster and develops the credit prediction system to manage the delinquent customers. The model presented by this study uses Kohonen network, which is one of artificial neural networks of data mining technique, to cluster the credit delinquent customers into clusters. Cox proportional hazard model is also used, which is one of survival analysis used in medical statistics, to analyze the repayment patterns of the delinquent customers in each cluster. The presented model estimates the repayment period of delinquent customers for each cluster and introduces the influencing variables on the repayment pattern prediction. Although there are some differences among clusters, the variables about the purchasing frequency in a month and the average number of installment repayment are the most predictive variables for the repayment pattern. The accuracy of the presented system leaches 97.5%.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze of recognization and behaivor characteristcs of customers in Korean fashion market. The study is analyzed through questionary paper to the domestic female group of more than or equal to age of twenty living in Seoul. The collected questionary paper is analyzed with SPSS/PC+ program and the method of statistical analysis used for this study is frequency analysis factor analysis reliability analysis cluster analysis t-test and corsstab analysis. The result of analysis of recognization and behaivor characteristics of customers involves the following: Firstly the result of analysis of the degree of recognition between the environment-friendly customer group and non-envirnoment-friendly customer group in relation to green fashion products showed meaningful differences. Secondly when observing the average of the two according to the behavioral characteristics of their activities of purchasing advertising in relation to green clothes it showed that environment friendly customers saw and heard relatively much more advertisements for green fashion product. These serial processes of research have the meaning in confirming that segmented market for environment-friendly customers exists in the domestic fashion market and these will not only set up the basis of research on the market of green fashion product but also be able to contribute to propose future direction of research.

  • The demand for apartments is decreasing as the condition of housing market in Korea has changed. Therefore, construction companies have to understand the needs of the customers to win over them. It is important for construction companies not only to supply customers with high quality apartments but also to provide them high service quality for a long range plan. One of the important service of the construction companies is after-service(A/S) that includes the defect management. The inhabitants' unsatisfactory defect management will worse the image of the company among the future customers. Also A/S is one of the best way for the company to create good impression to the customers. so the defect management carried out by construction firms has to satisfy the inhabitants. In this study. the degree of association between inhabitants satisfaction and the company's image is proved and the factors of the inhabitants dissatisfaction in defect-management are presented. The major factor that causes dissatisfaction is the long service time of the defect management. Therefore, shortening the time of process taken to deal with the defects would allow construction outfits to satisfy their customers effectively and to be more competitive ones in the Korean apartment market.

  • Since Korean government has implemented the "Number Portability System" in the domestic mobile communications market, mobile communication companies have been striving to hold onto existing customers and at the same time to attract new customers. This paper presents a competing risk model that considers the characteristics of a customer in order to predict the customer's life under the "Number Portability System." Three competing risks considered are pricing policy, quality of communication, and usefulness of service. It was observed that the customers who pay more are less sensitive on pricing policy younger people are less sensitive than older people to the quality of communication and women are more sensitive than men to the degree of usefulness of service. We expect that the result of this study can be used as a guideline for effective management of mobile phone customers under the Number Portability System.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate how food-related lifestyle of Chinese customers affect purchase intention for Korean Ramen and to verify the moderator effects of food neophobia and Korean attitude to food safety between them using hierarchical regression analysis suggested by Baron & Kenny. The findings and implications can be summarized as follows. First, while food-explorer or convenience-oriented traits in Chinese customers have significant and positive effects, the health-oriented trait has a negative effect on purchase intention of Chinese customers for Korean Ramen. Second, there is negative moderating effect between the trait of convenience-oriented and purchase intention of Chinese customers for Korean Ramen. Third, there is a positive moderating effect between the trait of food-explorer or convenience-oriented, and purchase intention of Chinese customers for Korean Ramen.

  • The biggest change in the current medical service market is the shift from producer-based approach to customer-based approach. Thus, there is a high necessity for an introduction of market-oriented and customer-oriented marketing activities in medical institutions. Especially, revisitation and positive word-of-mouth of customers are the most effective marketing methods of consistently obtaining customers and drawing new loyal customers. Hence, the factors influencing the reuse of medical services and word-of-mouth are demonstrated using SERVQUAL, and the results show that the service factors influencing reuse intentions on medical services are assurance, responsiveness, and tangibles and the factors strengthening word-of-mouth are empathy and assurance on the services provided by medical institutions. This study has determined that revistation and word-of-mouth of customers are not only influenced by satisfaction on medical services but by the quality itself as well. Therefore, medical service providers need to pursue standardized strategies in order to enhance the quality of medical services simultaneously in addition to simply increasing the customer satisfaction level.
