Factors Influencing on the Adolescence`s Clothing Conformity -Focused on Female Middle and High School Students in Seoul- (청소년의 TV 미디어스타에 대한 의복 동조성에 영향을 미치는 요인 -서울시내 여자 중.고등학생을 중심으로-)

  • The purpose of this study was to understand the Korean teenagers\` clothing behavior through pointing out the factors that clothing behavior of teenagers that was initiated from the important reference group, TV stars. The subject of this study were 570 purposively selected students at female middle and high school students in Seoul. The results were as follows : 1. The clothing conformity to TV stars relating to demographic variables was influenced significantly by location and personal expense variable in the high school group. 2. The exhibition showed a more important role to the clothing conformity in middle school group than in high school group. 3. The clothing conformity to TV stars relating to the clothing related variables was significantly affected by self-confidence to clothing than clothing normative recognition, clothing risk recognition and degree of clothing importance regardless of groups. 4. The clothing conformity to TV stars relating to TV media variables was affected by TV media star identification variable in both groups. And in case of middle school group, interests in TV stars also had influence on the clothing conformity to TV stars. And in case of high school group, interests in TV had effect on the imitation to TV stars\` clothing. As middle school students tend to have self-identification about a particular person, TV media stars become the reference group for the adolescence to follow their clothing.

  • A recent concern about Goguryeo era reflects the efforts to find out our spiritual roots, which have descended from the ancient times; Goguryeo clothing study leads to analysis of our national spirit in terms of form. This study aims to analyze formal property and intrinsic meaning of Goguryeo clothing for Korean ramie clothing design and draw traditional images to derive design elements applicable to ramie clothing. On the basis of technical books, newspaper article, internet and precedent studies, theoretical study on Goguryeo clothing and ramie property was followed up with positive study to analyze the clothing on the Goguryeo ancient tomb mural. The results are as follows: First, a progressive spirit is to progress and develop anything actively; This spirit represents Goguryeo people's ambition and racial characteristic as horse-riding people; The rigidity of ramie fabric is suitable for expressing straight silhouettes and detail in Goguryeo dress. Second, a fluidity means flowing property in opposition to fixation; in the case of clothing, it has a tendency to change form according to body motions; The extensibility and crease-resistance of ramie fabric is suitable to express pleated skirts and holds high design value for modern people who tend to regard clothing as important individuality expression. Third, a universal property to introduce and receive; as Goguryeo was a prosperous country established by conquering an open plain, the period formed a society that recognized diversity by introducing foreign cultures freely; a universality suggests the direction of modernization of traditional ramie clothing and stimulates us to discovert new design through compromise between various cultures rather than to stick to traditional style. Considering the fact that precedent studies on traditional clothing are concentrated upon the Joseon period and also limited to formal analysis, this study aims to derive design elements for actual clothing making. These results are expected to be used as basic material for study as well as reference for designers who wish to design modern Korean clothing.

A Study on Brand of Mail-Order Clothing (Mail-Order의류제품의 브랜드에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the current brand of mail-order clothing, consumers' attitude over importance of brand and the effectiveness of brand when consumers purchase clothing by mail-order shopping. for this study, mail order catalogs were analyzed and the samples were collected through the questionaire distributed to 214 women. It was analyzed by SAS package. The results are as follows; 1. As a result of mail-order catalog analysis, domestic clothing included few famous brand except foreign brand. 2. The users of mail-order purchasing were old and married women comparably. They were also high clothing-expense users and housekeepers. Item that consumers wanted to buy using mail-order shopping were home-wear, night-wear, accessories and scarves which were involved low risks comparably. 3. Consumers regard brand significantly as a means of credit in purchasing mail-order shopping clothing. In analysis between importance of mail-order clothing brand and demographics, degree of education and clothing expense per month showed significant difference.

The effects of subcutaneos fat on the system of clothing weights (체지방률이 착의량체계에 미친 영향)

  • The rates of subcutaneos fat on the system of clothing weights including clothing microclimate subjective sensations were measured to get basic data to develop guideline for healthy clothing life. for this study skinfold thickness the rate of subcutaneos fot clothing microclimate subjective sensations and clothing weights were measured from 85 male and 105 female colligians. The results were as follows: 1. The rate of subcutaneos fat showed negative correlation with the temperature inside clothing in chest but not with the temperatures in back and thigh. The correlation was not significant between the rate of subcutaneos fat and humidity inside clothing 2. The correlation between the rate of subcutaneos fat and thermal sensations was positively significant at 5% level. However no correlation was found between the rate of subcutaneos fat and humid sensations. 3. There was significant correlation between the rate of subcutaneos fat and under clothing weights and total clothing weights.

  • The purposes of this study were to deter-mine the dimensions of the housewives' cloth-ing behavior for the environmental protection and the identify the effective variables. The results of this study was intended to provide fundamental material for the establishment of clothing behavior guidelines for the environmental protection. This study was conducted by reference analysis and empirical study. To develop theoreti-cal framework study. To develop theoreti-cal framework of dimensions of environmental protection behavior, references concerned were analyzed. The results of reference analy-sis showed that the dimensions of environmental protection bahavior were resource and energy saving, sold waste reduction, resource reuse or recycle, and green product purchase. The dimensions of housewives' clothing behavior for environmental protection were identified by use of self-administered questionnaires. The results of enpirical study showed that the dimensions of clothing behavior for the environmental protection wre clothing resource reuse or recycle, clothing management resource saving, clothing consumption resource saving, green product purchase, and clothing management resource saving was the highest and that of resource reuse or recycle was the lowest. Environmental consciousness, taking environmental education or not, residing place, clothing seperate-collectiong at residing place were effective variables on clothing behavior for environmental protection.

  • The objective of this study was to estimate the quantitative loss of the consumer surplus due to the tariffs on clothing imports during the WTO starting periods. For 1984-1996, the import price elasticity of the clothing was estimated from the regression of pet capita clothing imports on Per capita GNP, import price index and domestic producer price index. Then the quantitative losses of the consumer surplus in clothing were obtained from the simplified formula for 1990-1995. In spite of the decrease in textiles St clothing tariff rates, consumer costs were increasing, which was caused by the tremendous increase in clothing imports during the same period. The loss of the consumer surplus was 7131 billion wonts in 1995, which accounted for 6.4% of the total clothing expenditure.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of clothing involvement, store and brand loyalty orientation on the information search behavior. The study subjects comprised 298 females living in Seoul and Kyung-gi area. The data were analyzed with factor analysis, regression, cluster analysis, ANOVA and correlation analysis. Clothing involvement and information search behavior consisted of various factors. Clothing involvement, store and brand loyalty influenced information search behavior. Fashion and clothing involvement was the most important factor which influenced all loyalty and information search behavior(i.e. brand and store loyalty, personal and nonpersonal information search behavior). According to store and brand loyalty factors, female consumers classified into three groups : low loyalty, brand loyalty and store loyalty group. Three groups showed different clothing involvement, information search, clothing purchasing behavior and demographic variables. Therefore, loyalty orientation is the important factor which can describe the consumer behavior more effectively.

A Study on Clothing Attitude Variables (의복 태도 변인들에 대한 연구)

  • In the field of psychology of clothing and fashion marketing, there have been many studies on clothing behavior but have been poorly catgorized according to the characteristics of variables. The author reviewed 120 recent studies on clothing varaibles published in Korea and grouped the variables into three categories. They are 1) the clot, ting atitude variables that consistently influence the Personal clothing behavior; 2) the market variables that are inherent to the market itself; and 3) the clothing consumer behavior uapiables that ate most related to the clothing consumer behavior. In this study the author surveyed and found that the following 9 major clothing attitude variables had been most frequently studied, including practicality, economy, modesity, aesthetics, fashionability, conformity and individuality, status symbolism, importance, and satisfaction. Two other categories will be reported in the following papers.

Clothing Values and Country of Origin of Clothing: A Comparision of Korea and England University Women (한국과 영국여대생들의 의복가치와 의복의 원산지 비교연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to determine the clothing value, awareness of and concern about clothing's country of origin in Korea and England university women. University women in Korea and England were surveyed to determine the importance attributed to 32 descriptors defining 8 clothing values. Awareness of, and concern about, clothing's country of origin were determined mean-scores, t-test and $x^2$-analyses were done. A different rank order of importance for clothing values exists for both groups. The Korea sample rated aesthetic, economic, theorical, political, exploratory and sensory significantly higher and social, religious significantly lower than England sample. England sample appeared to be more aware, concerned about clothing's country of origin than Korea sample. More Korea women were able to recall country of origin. Over half Korea sample but less than 22% England sample recalled purchasing primarily domestic apparel.

  • This survey was performed to gain basic information for the development of new protective clothing of high acceptability in pesticide splaying among small size farmers. The rate of protective clothing wearing was low during pesticide spray although they understand its necessity. The reason for this low acceptability was related to the heat stress and reduced work efficiency deriving from wearing protective clothing. Instead of wearing they tend to carry out spray work while the ambient temperature is not to high. In the similar context, they rather intend to spray in consideration of weather condition instead of wearing protective clothing in the future. However, they are willing to purchase protective clothing if desirable products are developed: the clothing need to be efficient in both protection and work performance; the fanciness in design is not a requisite. This survey result will provide information necessary for the direction of new protective clothing development.
