  • Several criticisms notwithstanding, the major political parties in South Korea seem to have developed relatively coherent 'collective identities' with regard to the unification question between South and North Korea. A comparative analysis in this paper reveals a certain pattern of convergence and divergence in unification policies among major parties. First, diachronically, the two major political parties in the history of South Korea, which I call for simplicity "conservative parties" and "democratic parties" respectively, have converged into allelosubjective attitudes towards North Korea since President Park Chung-hee's proclamation of peaceful unification plan in 1970. The governments of conservative parties since then promoted allelosubjective relations between South and North Korea, which the governments of democratic parties succeeded and developed into a partial integration policy. Though the succeeding governments of conservative parties of Lee Myung-bak and Park Geun-hye seem to have stepped back from the allelosubjective attitudes, seemingly they have not yet withdrawn to the monosubjective stance before 1970. Next, synchronically, an analysis of the platforms of major parties and their campaign promises in the 20th general election in 2016 reveals converging and diverging points in their unification policies. All the major parties show relatively allelosubjective attitudes towards North Korea, with significant differences. "Saenuri Party," the current conservative party, maintains quite bit of monosubjective attitudes towards North Korea and requires unilateral changes of North Korea in the process of unification. "Justice Party," the minor progressive party, is the most allelosubjective in that it presupposes the co-existence and mutual survival of the two Koreas in unification. In between lie "The Minjoo Party of Korea" and "The People's Party", the two parties separated in the democratic party bloc.

  • Right after president Keun-Hae Park's announcement at German Dresden on March 2014, both expectation and skepticism have been raised for the Korean unification. The unification would give a great chance for the economic prosperity in the positive sense. In the negative sense, it would only give a great burden to the Republic's financial status. Comparing the expectation of the unification, there are lack of structured preparation, duplicated and/or overlapped systematic approach, and even the national strategies are diffused. There are several individual research papers, analytical data and information, researches on the industry and technology. However most of the previous researches and findings are unstructured and lack of completeness. It is hard to find out the overall feature of the unification strategy. West German has compassed that it knew very few the reality of East German status. The Korean Government may know much less about North Korea's condition comparing to West German. Before the actual unification in the Korean peninsula, it needs the Grand Plan for the national infrastructure and land utilization of the Korean peninsula. During the development of the Grand Plan for the Korean peninsula, the Asian Global transportation network could be developed at the same time. The German's unification experience can give a great opportunity to the development of the Gran Plan. The data and information, and the previous researches should be classified and structured in a way of systematic arrangement. Since most of investment and budget for the unification come from the Korea, it would be very much beneficial for the Korean people. The openness and early exposures of the Grand Plan for the national infrastructure are considered as mandatory action.

  • Now, the possibility of Unification South and North Korea is much higher than any other times and the various fields of society, including politics, have been tried to overcome the differences between two nations. Most of all, overcoming the industrial differences for economic co-operation is one of the most important issues. About 50% of Export goods has been put in the claim in South Korea because of quality problems. And one of the important reasons is because of industrial standards. These kind of problems would be occur with economic co-operation. so the study about the standards of North Korean industries is much important before the trades is boomed. And this research would decrease the expense of unification of South and North before the difference would be larger than now. That's why the conference for industrial standards between South and North Korea should be held soon in order to overcome the differences of industrial standards. This paper not only suggested the difficulties and needs of the industrial standard unification, but also researched North Korean industrial standardization and quality inspection systems with specific examples. • Whereas previous researches on land policy after unification dealt with principally the problem of land confiscation under the communist reign, this research tried to propose a scheme of long-term land reform which was based on case studies on ex-socialist societies' experiences during their transformation, analysis on North Korea's institution related to land ownership and use. To reform North Korea's land ownership and use by the principle of market economy, North Korean should accumulate their commencing asset necessary for private ownership of land and housing. Therefore much focus should be put on the accumulation of the commencing asset at the early state of unification. On the extension of that line, the government of the Unified Korea should try to solve the problem of land confiscation by the communist party and land privatization in the region of North Korea. For the purpose, gradual land reform is more desirable than rapid one according to the case studies on ex-socialist societies. The government should avoid policies than can result in serious fiscal burden. Active participation of local government is highly recommendable in land tax and development. On the direction of land policy, this research proposed a four step long-term scheme of land reformation in North Korea. However, later researches should put more Korea. However, later researches should put more emphasis to the unification of land institution of North and South Korea which this research couldn't deal with sufficiently.

  • This study analyzes the difference in the awareness of Korean Unification among age groups based on survey data. It is verified by statistical model analyses that the ratio of agreement for Korean Unification increases with the age growth, but after the highest peak at the age group of 44 ~ 53 years, the ratio of agreement gradually decreases. The statistical model shows that the age group of 44 ~ 53 years old has 2.5 times higher odds of agreement than the age group of 24 ~ 33 years old and the odds of female to male is 0.56. Meanwhile, the ratio of increase in the agreement, aligned with the increasing age groups, shows 4.3 times higher for males than females. The difference in the ratio of agreement in the overall age groups is estimated to be contributed the most by the significant difference in the ratio of agreement for Korean Unification between the young male generation (in their 20s and 30s) and the middle-aged male generation (in their 40s and 50s).

  • Objective: The purpose of the study was to explore early childhood teachers' content knowledge and knowledge level on unification education through an analysis of a concept map (Novak & Gowin, 1984). Methods: The subjects, including 65 early childhood teachers in a metropolitan area, were asked to draw concept maps illustrating their understanding of unification education for young children. The collected concept maps were analyzed using the methods utilized by Novak and Gowin (1984) as well as You and Kim (2018). Results: In terms of early childhood teachers' content knowledge, 282 superordinate concepts and 1,766 subordinate concepts were shown. The 282 superordinate concepts were categorized into 7 representative superordinate concepts: understanding of North Korean, understanding of separation/unification, identification as Korean citizen, unification policy, relationship between South Korea & North Korea, educational activities, connection with home and society. In terms of early childhood teachers' knowledge level, the numbers of subordinate concepts and hierarchical level were shown to be varied according to the 7 representative superordinate concepts. Conclusion/Implications: Discussions were included to support and enhance early childhood teachers' content knowledge on unification education for young children through the development of comprehensive programs and teacher education.
