  • The radulae of six species of bithyniid snails, Bithynia striatula, B. tentaculate, B. siamensis, B. leachi, Gabbia misella and G. australis, were observed by SEM. The radular formula of all the bithyniids studied was 2 : 1 : 1 : 1 : 2. The all teeth were multicuspid and the central teeth had numerous basal denticles. The mesocones of the central and lateral teeth were spade or arrow-head shape. The mesocones of the central teeth and the lateral teeth of B. leachi, G. misella and G. australis were slightly larger than the other cusps in contrast of those of the other species. Number of cusp was varied by the specimen and the species.

  • The purpose of this study carried into the Electric pulp test for having knowledge of the difference of each one's stimulant threshold in normal teeth, the stimulant threshold at 10:00 A.M. and 3:00 P.M. in the same teeth, the differendce of the stimulant threshold between dental caries and normal contralateral teeth. In this study, 27 students aged between 22 and 24 years were selected from a pool of students who are sttending school of dentistry, chosun university who did not possessed dental disease like the dental caries, periodontal disease and restoration etc., and 30 outpatients who possessed dental caries(++). The obtained results were as follows : 1. The stimulant thresholds of the premolars and canine were higher than that of the incisors. 2. The stimulant thresholds of the carious teeth were lower than that normal contralateral teeth. 3. There were no difference stimulant threshold at 10:00 A.M. and 3:00 P.M.

  • The human genomic deoxyribonucleic acid(DNA) was extracted from the pulp, dentin of 22 teeth by clelex, phenol methods. Samples of the tooth-derived DNA were amplified by polymerase chain reaction(PCR), electrophosed for sex determination by detection of X-Y homologus amelogenin gene and D1S80 locus detection The following results have been achieved. 1. Chelex and phenol method are effective to sex determination in the pulp and dentin 2. Chelex method is not suitable for detection of D1S80 locus. 3. Concentration and purity of DNA for teeth using chelex method is lower than using phenol method. From the above investigation, chelex method is simple, rapid for sex determination, but it is not suitable for detection of VNTRs.

  • Enamel layer consists of carbonated hydroxyapatite of 85%, water of 12% and protein of 3% and lipid and tentin consists of carbonated hydroxyapatite of 47%, water of 20% and protein of 33% and lipid so if heat is increased in teeth and then teeth color is discolor. In case high temperature is applied in teeth, teeth color changed quality is measured about change of time for minimize teeth change of color. Spectroscopic light intensity special quality by change of time rise at specification temperature.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of Vitapex on the periapical lesions. Thirteen single-rooted teeth from ten patients who visited the SNU hospital were endodontically treated with Vitapex and Gutta percha cone, and radiographically and clinically evaluated for a period of 1 to 6 months. The results were as follows : 1. The loss of clinical symtoms was observed in all 13 teeth. 2. The reduction of size of periapical lesions in radiographs was observed in 10 teeth. The periapical lesions of remaining 3 teeth also look better in the radiographs. 3. All 13 teeth showed the reduction of radiolucency. 4. The gradual resorption of Vitapex over the root apex was observed.

  • The more civilized, the more incidence had happened in our daily life, particularly in industrial factories, by traffic accident, and in sports, etc. in the dental field. The accidental trauma is usually involved the teeth and surronuding tissues. And the author intended to study of the traumatic injuries of anterior teeth by individual tooth, age, sex, cause of trauma, and how they were treated. The following results were obtained: 1. The patients with traumatic injuries of the anterior teeth were 1.8% among the total dental out-patients. 2. By the age group, the twenties was most frequent in both sexes, and the teenagers next. 3. The predominant causes of traumatic injuries in the dental field were traffic accident (23.4%), fighting (19.2%), falling (18.5%), and sports (7.3%). 4. In the classification of injuries of the teeth, uncomplicated crown fractures (31.2%), subluxations (14.7%), and the complicated crown fractures (13.2%) were presented. 5. By the individual tooth in the traumatic cases, the upper cental incisors were most frequently injuried (49.8%). 6. In the treatments fillings and endodontic treatments (33.2%), splints (13.5%), extractions (11.7%) were main after care method.

  • The histopathological study was made to investigate the pulp reaction of "Hipol". The toxicity against the pulp tissue was compared with the "Zinc-Oxide-Eugenol Cement." A total of 36 cavities of healthy prmanent teeth of the 3 dogs were chosen and filled with the experimental filling materials without base. The teeth were prepared at 3 intervals; a week and two, three weeks as a result of this study. 1) Both "Hipol" and "Adaptic" showed very severe to moderate pulp reactions in the all of the filled teeth. 2) There was little difference between "Hipol" and "Adaptic" in the severity of the pulp reaction. 3) After 3 weeks, the teeth filled with "Hipol" and "Adaptic" showed more or less recovery phenomena. The teeth filled with "Zinc-Oxide-Eugenol Cement" showed marked recovery phenomenon. 4) There was little difference in the histopathological result between "Universal" group and "Catalyst" group.

  • This study examines the morphological features of larval and postlarval shells of the paedomorphic bivalve Crenella decussata Montagu, 1808 from the Sea of Japan. During the early morphogenesis of the shell of C. decussata the following characteristics appear: prodissoconch I -the anterior and posterior provincular teeth, a broad primary ligament pit located on the chondrophore; nepioconch - the anterior and posterior juvenile teeth, primary lateral teeth, fine commarginal and radial sculpture. Larvae of C. decussata distinctly differ from other mytilid larvae by a D-shaped shell, absence of umbo, astraight hinge margin, and homogeneous fine-grained sculpture without co-marginal lines of growth. These shell characters indicate lecithotrophic development of this species. Some morphostructures are revealed which might be used in crenellin taxonomy.

  • An 11-year-old spayed female Maltese dog presented with mass in oral cavity. On conscious oral examination, the right maxillary canine tooth was not visible, and a lesion has been suspected of mass existed in canine tooth area. The adjacent maxillary first premolar was buried in the lesion, with a little part of the tooth exceptions. On radiographic examination, the canine tooth was buried horizontally in the lesion, and the root part was adjacent to the first premolar tooth. Extraction was performed for a treatment. When the lesion was incised, the canine tooth was horizontal with the concave surface facing the palatal, and formed double teeth by fusing with the premolar tooth at the roots parts of the teeth. This report described the double teeth in the dentigerous cyst rarely reported in dogs.
