  • Prior research has investigated different effects of brand performance information such as premium price information and market share information on brand equity components - quality perception and brand preference. It was shown that the differential effects of brand performance information could depend on product-related variables like product category concept and quality variation in the product category. In this study, we conducted an experiment to find out how personal characteristics such as self-construal, price perception and brand commitment could influence the effects of different types of brand performance information. The results show that individuals who have independent self-construal, favorable price perception and emotional commitment with the brand develop more favorable evaluation of the premium price performance information resulting in more positive evaluations of the brand. However, individuals who have interdependent self-construal, unfavorable price perception and cognitive commitment with the brand develop more favorable evaluation of the market share performance information resulting in more positive evaluations of the brand. We discuss the theoretical and practical implications of this study and its limitations, along with future research interests.

  • Brand equity is the added value endowed by the brand to the product. This concept born in the 1980's has aroused intense interest among market managers and business strategists from a wide variety of industries. Brand equity can be approached in different perspectives according to the motivations and the objectives of the studies. Consumer-based brand equity is examined internally by consumers' cognition and feeling and externally by consume behavior in the market By analyzing the relationship between them we can understand how brand value is made in the mind of consumers and how it is converted into the consumer behavior,. The brand is an especially important extrinsic cue in clothing products and the apparel industry has higher brand equity when it is actually compared with the brand equity of many other industries measured as a financial asset. Therefore the purpose of this study was to find out brand value of clothing products through clothing brand equity and to understand consumer behavior of the brand. And so we focused in consumer-based brand equity. For the empirical study three brands that are predicted to have different level of brand equity were selected based on prices and market shares of the brands. As the result the consumer-based brand equity is composed of emotional and cognitive dimensions and each dimension has several sub-dimensions. • The purpose of this study was to investigate whether customers' fashion involvement, brand familiarity, and expertise of negative information moderate the influence of the original brand attitudes on the attitude toward extended brand attitudes in the fashion market. For these purposes, four hypotheses were developed and data was collected from 480 students. Data was analyzed using SPSS methods such as factor analysis, frequency, 1-test, and moderated regression analysis. The results were as follows; first, it was found that the original brand attitudes positively influence the extended brand attitudes. Second, the influence of the original brand attitudes on the extended brand attitudes was stronger when fashion involvement was high rather than low. Third, in the case that perceived similarity between the original and the extended product classes was high, the influence of the original brand attitudes on the extended brand attitudes was stronger when brand familarity was high. Fourth, the influence of original brand attitudes on the extended brand attitudes was stronger when the perceived expertise of negative information source on the extended brand was high. Therefore, the results suggest that extending brands requires the systematic brand management considering customers' variables such as fashion involvement, brand familiarity, negative information etc. Also, it seems that the brand strategy should be based on the segmentation for targeted customers' characteristics.
