  • Most old apartment housing have been replaced with new ones by means of the reconstruction. But with the change of the construction environment, remodeling is introduced as a new alternative for the replacement. Remodeling is expected to reduce national loss owing to the early reconstruction of old apartments resulted from economical and functional deterioration. But there still remains a lot of problems to be first solved for Remodeling. One of those is to figure out how to perform an economic feasibility analysis effectively. The researches of remodeling done under the rally stage are not sufficient in economic feasibility for apartment housing. Therefore, this paper suggests an effective method for the economic evaluation of remodeling projects focusing on a rental high-rise apartment.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest the process and calculating method of feasibility study for the reconstruction apartment projects, and the results of this study is fundamental knowledge for the exact and exquisite plan. The process of this study are as following : 1. Research for the process and peculiar character of reconstruction project. 2. Investigate input and output item and suggest the calculating methods that are generally accepted. 3. Suggest the general process on feasibility study for reconstruction apartment project.

  • The purpose of this study is to estimate elemental costs of an apartment building. The adapted research method includes a case study from $^{\circ}{\AE}H^{\circ}{\phi}$ construction company. The results of this study are as follows: 1) An elemental cost format of an apartment building is proposed, 2) An elemental cost table based on a case study of $^{\circ}{\AE}H^{\circ}{\phi}$ construction company is suggested.

Analysis of the Condenser Stack Effect in a High-Rise Apartment Building (고층 아파트에서 응축기 적층문제 분석)

  • The stack effect of a new type condenser installed in a high-rise apartment building was studied numerically A sirocco fan is introduced to the new type condenser instead of an axial flow In. The new type condenser intakes the cold air through the lower inlet and exhausts the hot air through the upper outlet. The effects of the building height and frontal wind on the performance of an air-conditioner were analyzed. The performance of an air-conditioner was evaluated by using COP (coefficient of performance) and CGPI (condenser group performance indicator). the hot air was exhausted by the new type condenser at an angle of 50$^{\circ}$ from the outer wall of the building. If there was no draft, the new type condenser installed in the high-rise apartment building had a good performance and its performance on each floor is not influenced by the stack effect. It is shown that the efficiency of the air-conditioner installed in several floors below the top floor decreased when the frontal wind velocity was greater than 8 m/s.

  • This study predicts damaging risk factors in apartment fire situation by using CFAST. The software was developed by Building and Fire Research Lab, that is government affiliated organization of the National Institute of Standards Technology. This analysis scenarios werec well verified by experimental results. Situation of the living room and the second room as well as the bedroom tends to be qualitatively the same with the experimental data. In case of apartment fire, it is predicted that they have been got into trouble with dizziness, badly vomiting and paralysis symptoms due to short oxygen and excessive carbon dioxide when persons were left out in the living room or second room.

  • In previous research, most occupant said that they have not operated ventilation system installed in the house, because of increasing of energy consumption and unconcern of ventilation. Therefore, it is necessary to applied the sensor based demand controlled ventilation for the IAQ(Indoor Air Quality) and improvement of energy efficiency in ventilation strategy. The propose of this study is to present a application method of IR(Infrared) sensor for multi-zone DCV(Demand Controlled Ventilation) in the apartment house. It is possible that IR sensor could be used for DCV, because that could detect the occupant and action. IR sensor based DCV strategies are established to evaluate characteristic of application in the apartment house and simulated by Contam program. As a result, they have some week points though, if they would be applied DCV with optimum strategy, it would be useful to improve IAQ, to reduce energy consumption.

  • In this study, 3 cooling systems of apartment which are air-cooled air conditioner with indoor unit, water-cooled air conditioner with indoor unit and small capacity absorption chiller-heater with FCU have been evaluated by Multi-Criteria Decision Making Analysis. Weights of 7 selected factors which are economics, space, billing, constructability, human comfort, visibility and reliability are determined by expert group of 30 system designers and 30 construction engineers. Final weights were derived for 101 and 166 $m^2$ apartments. Analysis shows that small capacity absorption chiller-heater with FCU is the most favorable system for apartment cooling system.

A Prediction of Hybrid Ventilation System Performance in Apartment House (제3종 하이브리드 환기시스템을 적용한 공동주택의 환기성능 예측)

  • A hybrid ventilation system was introduced to predict the ventilation performance of the apartments. This ventilation system was composed of the natural supply-air inlet and the forced exhaust-air outlet. Analysis was conducted by CFD technique and was performed on three ventilating flow rates; 30, 60, $120m^3/h$. As the results, residents feel comfortable thermally for $60m^3/h$. In the case of $120m^3/h$, however, residents feel uncomfortable both thermally and in air currents. In this study the energy saving for space heating is also an important factor. In the case of whole region with $180m^3/h$, residents feel comfortable at each region of the model apartment. It is shown that this hybrid ventilation system is possible method for the apartment house.

  • In field of apartment housing currently, insulation technology is the most effective way because it is common to improve the thermal performance, therefore, it is contributed to energy saving as several regional insulation standards and legal mandate method. In addition, by applying of building energy efficiency rating certification system, it has inspired voluntary energy conservation commitment for the building owner or facility manager by making a plan to evaluate and verify building energy performance. However, these circumstances are not enough to acquire a grade 2 of higher information. Therefore, in this study, we analyzed the impact of building energy efficiency rating and confirmed reduction ratio compared to the standard housing on the basis of recent our nation building law when we had changed the shape of windows and wall insulation performance and shapes of housing.

Energy Saving Potentials of Dedicated Outdoor Air System in a High-rise Apartment Building (외기전담 시스템 기반 초고층 공동주택 중앙 환기시스템의 에너지 절감효과 분석)

  • This paper investigates the energy saving potentials of a dedicated outdoor air system (DOAS) applied to a highrise apartment building. As for a typical $132-m^2$ apartment unit, two different HVAC systems; centralized DOAS-Ceiling Radiant Cooling Panel and decentralized Energy Recovery Ventilator-Packaged Air Conditioner were installed. Transient behavior and control characteristics of each system were modeled numerically using a commercial equation solver program, and annual cooling coil load and heating load reduction potentials were compared. The research shows that DOAS-Ceiling Radiant Cooling Panel system can reduce the cooling coil load over 21% annually compared with the current Energy Recovery Ventilator-Packaged Air Conditioner pair. In addition, over 40% of annual ventilation heating load can be reduced by use of DOAS.
